espn reporting that drew doughty, national hero, out “at least a week” with an “upper body injury”…can’t be good for the kings. saying maybe a concussion

Here’s an interesting article about Boucher and the Lightning (if we’re not all sick of hearing about ‘em) from an unusual source: the Wall Street Journal.
Interesting comments over the past few days
about JM’s struggle to fire up the G&G line. My take is that this
line will likely see a revolving door of partners for them. Some will
click, some won’t and eventually a rotation of sorts will be the norm
depending on who we play. Speedsters verusus grinders, the key being the
player who goes to the net, sets up a screen, distracts the defenders.
Also
interesting are JM’s comments in the Hickey article. Doesn’t seem,
based on his comments, like he’s punishing players as much as he’s
searching for the right players in the right situations overall. Maybe
he’s not punitively benching guys like Eller, OB, Pyatt. Of course, as
we all know, JM ruins young players doesn’t he?
isn’t it what coach is for? if your players can’t figure it out you go home, watch some videos, draw up some plays, practice them… you know… the whole coaching bit.
I think it was 5 straight losses to start the season. But it must have been just the trigger. I am sure there was stuff between Savard and/or Demers and Corey that lead to Corey pulling the trigger.
They are completely different players. Halpern is pretty good defensively and strong in the corners and prevents Plekanec from logging too much ice-time. That being said, it is hard to find a big guy that wants to stand in front of the net instead of 5 feet away from it ( a la Latendresse).
It seems you’ve got the brawn to beat me if this was all it takes,
But I’ve got skills to pay the bills and punish each of your mistakes.
I agree it seems like Martin has Pouliot down in the bottom six to work on his checking and play without the puck – basically he is getting him to start doing what all of us want him to do on the GG line bang around go to the net and be responsible defensively
if Martin left him on the GG line to perfect this we would all be ready to kill him because when you are in the top 6 you are expected to contribute offensively too – I think this would be too much for Pouliot to handle and he would never come out of his funk
I remember the day that Demers and Savard were fired pretty well. The team started off 0 and 4 and, like usual, Ronald Corey panicked. The team then went on a 5-0 run. At that time, it seemed like a pretty smart move until the whole Roy fiasco started.

I agree completely. I’d rather Byfuglien than Halpern. I’m sure that our powerplay would be a lot more effective than it has been if Byfuglien were crashing the crease.
On the broadcasting front…TSN has just announced that they are now the official English-Language broadcaster of the Habs…24-30 games over the next 2-3 seasons from Eastern Ontario to Atlantic Canada…makes sense since TSN and RDS are owned by the same entity and the Habs gave TSN a great first round in the playoffs last season.
I guess that destroys that oft-mentioned rumor that The Score wanted to broadcast all the Habs games in English.
Won’t Adam be disappointed? I thought Red was above things such as a pressbox?
Or is it just locker rooms and the players who don’t deserve his presence.
I suppose he’s still willing to take the free admission and food, while some of us don’t have the extra cash to even make a trip to montreal and sit in the cheap seats. (ironically, Red would be very popular in the drinking/booing section)
I really hoped that the Habs would ahve made a move for Dustin Bufglien or however you spell it. His contract was reasonable and he’s the banger I think the team is sorely in need of.
I agree he does gain it effectively … however it’s what’s happening once he’s there … always heads for the perimeter with both hands high on the stick .. which is OK for passing but waek for shooting .
The problem is this anti-European stuff is endemic, it permeates the league, that senile bigot on CBC gets to rave about it every week and there’s a lot of caveman types in the NHL front offices and all levels of coaching that don’t respect European players. Canadian and US-born players grow up with this and some of them get indoctrinated with this attitude of don’t trust Europeans and don’t expect them to put it on the line. Creates rifts among teams because of prejudices that have been fostered out of ignorance and European players find it hard to integrate because the other guys have been fed for years that their new teammate is heartless, money-hungry and unreliable. Need them to fill out the talent holes in the 30-team NHL but god forbid we embrace them a little.
I’ve never seen a player able to consistantly gain the offensive zone like Gomez. They just need to figure out what to do from there. And I think they will.
I think JM is hoping that by demoting Pouliot, he is taking the pressure off him, giving him time to work on his game and build up his confidence. And I think it’s slowly working. He started training camp by answering questions like, “what did you improve this off-season?” “what do you need to do differently to find success?” “why were you so awful last spring while the rest of your team overachieved?” He’s been playing with much more fire and intensity than we’ve seen since he debuted last year, even if he still looks soft at times. Give him a little more time to get his game where it needs to be intensity wise and I think you’ll see him back up sometime in November.
I agree that Moen and Pyatt aren’t top line guys (although Pyatt has potential). But for right now, who else to you put up there? Eller is just a rookie still learning how to be an NHLer, let alone JM’s system, which took our vets all of last season to nail down. Pyatt played very will with Gomez and Gionta in the playoffs even if he wasn’t a scoring threat. It’s the best option for now, until someone else starts lighting the lamp and gets his opportunity.
I realize Gomez is a set up man/playmaker .. but I’d like to see him get his nose into traffic more often . He seems to be always turning away from the puck once he passes it or attempts to pass it .. far to often I see him just flicking his stick out at th epuck and then making the big circle. He’s a notorious slow starter so maybe it’ll take a few games .. lets hope so .
so who was on his wing last year besides Gionta ? Eller,Pouliot and Moen .. that’s th eline I’d like to see together for a couple of games ..
nice pic, bu the way. Detroit and even LA are different beasts than the other teams as far as fans go. You can’t compare ticket prices in Detroit and Phoenix!
Yet the NHL was smart enough to approve a new building for New Jersey. That’s a team that should fold, their attendance has been as bad as sunbelt teams for years now. They have Kovalchuk and they can’t even come close to a sellout, that’s beyond pathetic
Adam Gopnik! Wow! Is he in town to interview anyone? A article on the Habs in The New Yorker? Or maybe he’s looking for Habs fans who are also soon to be published authors to write about. I hear the authors of soon to be released Truman Show Delusions are Habs fans. Now that would be cool.
I’m stuck on the road in Guelph and don’t have my beloved RDS HD feed or PVR arggggghhhhhh…. Any buddy out there have a live feed link for tonites tilt?
Phoenix was a winner last season and their tickets are about as cheap as an AHL ticket. They flop around this year it’ll go right back down. NJD never draw a crowd anyway.
Gallagher is about a 4 to 5-year project realistically for the Habs I’d say, by then we could have a different Top-6 unit entirely and room for a small, but dangerous scoring forward.
In 5 years, Kristo, Leblanc and Avtsin could be headlining some offence and Ian Schultz could be our Hartnell or Knuble.
Well I’ll hold out hope until I see him make the junior roster, then we’ll see his performance and get a better idea of what to expect. Let’s remember that most players taken in the later rounds (especially from the CHL due to relatively high exposure in comparison to Europeans) are late round picks for a reason.
Also, we’ve got a pretty small team as it is, I’d rather see something more immediate, lika Pacioretty develop into a terror on the wing.
I’m also planning on attending some London Knights away games to get a look at Tinordi in action. Could you imagine Hal Gill if he was mean? Not to mention Tinordi will likely be a better skater due to the difference in training generations.
I want it to be clear that I am a Pseudo Martin supporter anf think that when the team listens to him, they reap the rewards in the win column. That being said, I think his mix and match approach to the Gomez line is not going to bear any fruit in the near future. There are two main factors to this thought.
1. No one is given enough time to form chemistry in that role. We only played 5 games and now we have the 3 or 4th guy trying to fill the spot. Whoever has success there will nee a little time to get it going.
2. This is really quite simple. Pyatt and Moen are not top 6 guys!! They are great, and they do have attributes that could make them successful with Gionta and Gomez, but it is really a quick fix. The best that could happen would be a few games in a row when the whole line got hot. Their production would tail off, even if they got a quick start.
I know pouliot is struggling with confidence, but he isn’t a 4th line guy. Maybe he shouldn’t be on one of the top lines, but him playing as he is this year right now is likely a better choice than Pyatt, Moen, Boyd etc etc
Of course I can’t be sure, but I’m 100% sure Gauthier tried to get Byfuglien. He went to Atlanta in a huge deal. 9 players or something like that. I doubt Gauthier was interested in moving that many assets.
“I lined up next to him at a faceoff, looked over and said “Hi Rocket”. All he did was growl.”
Up here in Northwestern Ontario were are a huge distance from Toronto yet we always get the Loafs and nothing else. For example, Kenora is 4 hours closer to Edmonton by car than Toronto and Thunder Bay is about the same distance from each, but they still treat us like we’re in the GTA when it comes to “regional” broadcasts.
Desharnais is 3 inches shorter (that 5’7″ estimation is a laugh, Gazette writers marked as 5’5″ before this September’s camp) and got along in the much softer QMJHL, the WHL is the most physically punishing junior league there is and Gallagher’s surviving and thriving in it so far, I think he’s got a little more of the Theo Fleury in him than Desharnais.
As much as I want to believe Brendan Gallagher will develop, it’s hard to hold your breath for a kid that’s 5’8″
And as far as PK with Hammer goes, I like it. It turns into a steady presence and a puck mover for every pair. Whoever is lucky enough to get paired with Markov gets both the steady presence on the back, and the puck moving. PK can move the puck and take some chances, Hammer is a rock to hold the fort. JG to move the puck, Gill to hold the fort. Balance on your pairings is important. I don’t want a tandem that’s just there to hold things down, we need to be able to break out too.
unless gomez is asking for a new wing, the team has to keep its most talented young player on that line. Moen is certainly not that person. i could see this move in the playoffs to get a spark. this is a bowman type of move for a shift or two in a third period to get a spark. but i see no reason to make such a move after a handful of regular season games.
jm just basically informed his gm that their two attempts at finding a young power forward have failed. either the coach can’t get the talent out of his players or the gm can’t evaluate talent. either way, it makes no sense to spend something like $30 million on gomez for him to play with Moen.
the third possibility - that it made no sense to acquire g&g in the first place -is moot at this point.
i’m all for giving eller or pouliot or someone from the ahl another shot at the spot. but putting fourth liners on the first line makes no sense early in the season for a team that has a winning record.
Gomez and the Captain will be fine. If they are not a great 1st line today, they make a great 2nd line….they have so much speed it keeps the opposing D back. Do we need a big body with some hands in front of the net – Habsolutely. Have we that player today – No. So IMO, they need to move the puck quickly and involve the D. Having the proper D pairing ie. Markov when he returns and/or PK will create more ice in the O-zone and quick puck movement should create open chances. Just need to be cautious of the turnovers.
Cammy, Pleks, and AK are a threat each time on the ice. But I remain reserved about AK until he takes a big hit and comes back just as strong. Too many times he has played with confidence only to have it knocked out him for long periods.
D, even without Markov, has been very good. Gorges is really stepping up and Gill has surprised most. Hated Gill in TO of course and was hesitant when we acquired but he really has learned his positional play and knows his limitations.
Price – what can we say?? 50% were right and 50% were wrong and that won’t change all year.
I know it’s better than nuttin’ but this youtube feed/stream of hockey can only be classified as “the UN-HD”. I feel like an alien on some planet watching a signal that took 52 light years to get to me. I need my RDS back.
- Most boring game I’ve seen in years. Maybe ever.
- Habs (to a man) look like they’ve indulged a few too many home cooked meals this week
- Is there any team that stick checks more than Jersey? Synchronized stick checking. Everything Cammy shoots is in the rafters, as he’s double or triple stick checked.
Watching the Centre Ice feed from MSG – very interesting to get the other side’s impression of the game (as boring as it has been so far)
They are hesitant to give praise to their team and are hoping against hope that the flukey goal is a sign that things are going to get better for them.
HAHA. There’s Pouliot’s luck ladies and gentleman, he deflects a Josh Gorges shot in the slot and instead of the puck continuing on it’s course toward the net it comes straight down and stops immediately once it hits the ice.
I love how there are idiots on here who are actually blaming Price for any of these goals tonight. GET REAL PEOPLE!!!! Price is not at fault for anything tonight. The only thing Price should be blamed for is that this game isn’t 6-0. Maybe you all should look at the offense and see that every single shot is from the blueline. Offense hasn’t looked very good tonight.
Get off Price. People are saying all of the sudden “I am not a Price fan” but i bet you were the same person that was praising him the other day when we won both games this weekend.
Watch the game and stop disecting everything Price does.
3 goals on 13 shots is not great no matter how you want to spin it. He is not the main reason for the loss by a long shot, but saying he is totally without fault is disingenuous.
I’ve got 7.4 million reasons for believing it. Unless we bury him in the minors we can’t have him using all that space. Even when he’s OK, he’s a 50-60 point guy. Right now he isn’t playing well enough to dress.
Saku……but he was apparently to blame for all of our problems and he had to go…..Gomez is a good player, a great guy …the problem will always be his cap hit…it is a very big problem..one that management appears to have done a decent job of fixing mind you…but add in that he replaced Koivu and you get a little extra frustration. Then he takes his number….and Gio….gets named captain after all of the years of Saku is too small, too unfrench, etc….then they pay double, throw in prospects, for a similar player….Saku last eyar was as good as Gomez IMO. This year? hard to say…he si getting old but that extra 3-5 million sure would com ein handy. I am not blaming Gomez….but when someone does it is easire to agree wiht them then disagree based on the reality of the cap and the realtively small differece between gomez and koivu..this is as touchy as the Halk stuff on here….and I am not making friends with my opinions of Gill lately. I still think we ahve a very, very good team and will be fine…I actually don;t hink we have iced our best team due to cap constraints…but we will…and if healthy we willbe very,v ery competitive..
Hamrlik at $5.5 million and Spacek at $4 million are far worse for this team than $7 million for Gomez.
I see your point but having defensemen who don’t pass the puck into our slot to opposing players and actually cover or check players who drive our net would be worth the $9 million available with those two not on our roster.
Amen. For the Price bashers out there… remind me again, just how many goals did that team support their goalie with tonight? Exactly!
Les boys were out competed in every zone, played a great euro-style perimeter game and looked very much like a team that was not ready to play against a team that had lost 4 and would be hungry.
IMO, Price was one of the few who showed up tonight otherwise the score would have been ugly. Many others who “stood and watched” a game shouldn’t be surprised if they were to find their pictures on a milk carton tomorrow morning.
I predict a “spirited” practice arranged by one J. Martin is in their immediate future.
Both ridiculously overpaid…but Hammer came when we were still having trouble attracting players and he was still playing like a top pairing dman for a weaker club for a couple of seasons. Spacek? ….same as hammer…both serviceable but the cap hit makes them tougher to absorb. IF we had those three making appropriate money…ie, Gomez 5 million, Hammer 3 million and spacek, 3 million and not signed through next year….wow! you would have another 5.8 million….that would have been enough to bring in Hossa! can you imagine us with Hossa????
Gio and Gomez are like a longterm married couple. JM keeps adding a threesome for them to spice things up but nothing doing. They need a trial separation.
JM could take a lesson from Joel Quenneville. The minute he separated Toews and Kane, last playoffs, is when things started to happen.
Wait are you saying Gomez was playing tonight? I thought he was injured and sitting at home. I don’t think I heard his name once… We are in a funk. BUT our funk leaves us 3-2-1. Not bad at all. AGAIN we are only getting better once Marky is back.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I can’t believe the Habs haven’t give Pouliot more of a shot on that line. If he’s in the doghouse this badly already, they should have seen it coming and not re-signed him this past offseason.
Meh..crap happens..they were awful tonight..just about all of them.
With the present talent level on the team, we are just going to have to get used to dozens of nailbiting games this year. It’s not exactly an explosive offense and they need to compete at a certain level to win games. Tonight, they floated and didn’t give 2nd effort very much.
Part of me overreacts after such games and wishes we could trade 7 of the grinders we employ for one actual , honest to goodness Steve Yzerman clone. But it ain’t happening. So after my little fantasy, I get back to reality and break out my Kirk Muller jersey in hopes the Habs will emulate that guy in very game left. Kirk means work. Too little of that quality on display tonight, with predictable results.
I honestly thought that Price played an EXCELLENT game tonight.
NJ only had 13 shots, but of those 13 shots, 8 were pretty big scoring chances.
I thought he was our best player in this game. Made some great saves. Got 1 unlucky bounce on the second goal.
If the rest of the team showed up and we won 5-2 or 5-3, nobody would complain about Price. He was good and I can’t believe people can’t see that. Habs fans are knowledgeable? Yeah right…
Unless your the 76-77 Canadiens, no matter how well (or how poorly) you play, you’ll probably loose 1/3 of your games. And the opposite is true: no matter how well (or how poorly) you play, you’ll probably win 1/3 of your games.
It just so happens that tonight was one of the former.
God I truly hate the New Jersey Devils and Brodeur. He is such an overrated piece of garbage. The Devils represent everything that is wrong with today’s NHL…….1. Defensive, trap 90′s hockey. 2. Crazy contracts 3. Empty arenas because nobody cares to watch their team. There is no team or player I despise more then them.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.

Look,Price is a good tender and makes some remarkable and athletic saves,BUT THERE’S WAY MORE TO N.H.L.goalkeeping than looking pretty and it’s called CONSISTENT! And so far in Carey’s first four years he’s the meaning of the word inconsistent ! The problem is he was a back-up to other back-up’s and obviously this did not help him either ,IMO
Are you calling Halak a back up? What are you even saying? Honestly I can’t figure out if your clueless or if you are doing it on purpose. You should just quite posting until you understand hockey a little bit better, you are out of your league. You should have a discussion with my two beagles (McKibbon and Lachlan), I think your closer to their level of hockey intelligence.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
that is an interesting one that I have never heard…I am having a hard time imagining it….would you then move the bluelines a few feet closer to the middle….I think that may help too…I like your idea thoguh…I;d like to see it tried? has it been?
You wanna eliminate this type of hockey get rid of the middle red line as the icing line and use your own blue line instead. This take away the neutral zone trapping.
I think if Kovy II had been locked up “legally” earlier, NJ would have gone hard after Halak or Price (unless Lou really is beyond the point of caring and wants out)
Pouliot has to realize just because you’ve made it doesn’t mean you’ve made it. I watched this kid in Sudbury dismantle teams…he was the only player on that team and he destroyed guys his rookie year. He has the talent but the desire isn’t there. That being said he had a rough road with hockey becuase his dad had a long battle with cancer that decimated him and his family when he was 15 and took a year off of hockey. For some reason…and i am not a psychologist….i think it is still affecting his hockey career whether through depresion or some other deep seated emotion becuase that is the only thing that is lacking in his game. I can say that because my father just passed away after a long illness and I just went through a brain tumour operation myself and it has completely affected my life for the last year with depression et al. So that is my two dimes with him and I hope he can get going and motivated.
As for Martin F. and company, they are in such a quagmire that they don’t know what way is up. Marty has to get bad at some point or just not care…didn’t we get that feeling after the gold medal game Last year??? Time for the devils to either trade for the goaltending future or draft one because right now that is their biggest weakness.
Houle was bad, but not worst of all time. Gainey didn’t achieve much more than Houle and Gainey doubled the payroll that Houle was forced to half. I would call all the coaches and gm’s of the past 18 years mediocre.
Rejean Houle is right up there with the worst GM’s in NHL history. Some of his trades were almost comical.
Maybe not his worst, but when I was 11 or 12, my favorite player was Valeri Bure. Houle traded him from Jonas F. Hoglund. With his brother scoring 50 goals annually in the “dead puck” era, you don’t trade anyone with the last name Bure. Especially for Jonas F. Hoglund.
I wouldn’t move anything. It forces the defence to back up or at least think twice of standing up in the neutral zone because of the possibility of the longer dump in hence taking the congestion out of the neutral zone.
just worried you get a similar trap …as it is really only the dump in that helps….if you moved the blueline up….there would be more room to chip the puck in and it would be harder for teams to get it out if you did dump it in behind them….it might force them to back up and speed things up….as the punishment for allowing deep pucks would be worse IMO. I don;t really know I have never considered it but I like the htought…I still think I’d move the bluelines abouut 3 or 4 feet though if you went that route. It would also allow more time to get a head of steam…an extra stride is an extra stride and that too may help….I’m gonna think about this one Showey…it is a cool idea if they are ever serious about ridding the league of the neutral zone trap….but I really think the blueines would have to be moved too to make ti really effective…but like I said…need more daydreaming time to really envision it.
K, one thing I really gotta get off my chest about this team is that they work effectively in their half of the ice using Jacques’ short pass system.
However, when they get into the offensive zone, for some reason, EVERYBODY decides that thirty foot passes are the best option. This, in my opinion is the biggest reason we can’t sustain offensive zone possession time.
Sorry, can’t really agree. Price is the only one giving them a chance at this point.
The first two weren’t soft. First was the result of blown D zone coverage in front and at the side of the net. Anybody near your net HAS to get completely stuffed. Period. Didn’t happen.
The second deflected off Boyd’s hand – bad luck following a double PK. if you really want to throw someone under the bus then start with Gomez. He’s playing softer than the stuff in a newborn’s diaper and his effort level stinks just as much. He doesn’t win any physical battles or many face-offs (see goal # 3) and doesn’t put the puck in the net.
Not trying to beat a dead horse here but pound for pound I’d take Koivu any day. At least he was tougher, won face-offs with consistency and could put the puck in the net with a helluva lot more regularity than Mystery-Alaska-boy…and for less money. And those goals were usually within 3 feet of the blue paint…a place you’ll never see Gomer. If you want to know why that line isn’t going have a good look at the centre. It’s a disgrace that he was allowed to wear # 11, particularly when you consider all the hard working guys who wore it previously.
Remember that game against Jersey a few years back when Smoke had two goals in the third and we came back from down 3-1 to win 4-3? We need someone to step up like that.
I don’t understand how this team doesn’t get up to play in games where hometown stars come in. I remember the 90s when Mario used to come to town and the team was always waiting for him. Where’s the passion?
Is ther a better team at wasting minutes than New Jersey? It’s like your team never has time to get anything done… and before you know it, the period’s over.
Hey, I’m not at the Bell centre. If anyone on here is do you mind running into the room and telling our players that to beat the trap you have move the puck against the flow of play and you cross ice dump ins.
Oh yeah. And shooting on Brodeur from 40 feet with no traffic doesn’t result in goals.
When I’m steaming the game, the video keeps freezing up for extended periods of time (audio is fine though). Any idea what’s causing this? I’ve never had problems in the past.
cannot win every game and most nights we will be in 2-1 3-2 games…in the players we lost from last year and the players we gained we are better for it but basically no difference in scoring…all last year we struggled to score and the reason we should do better this year is because of pk and less injuries…but overall it will not add a significant scoring difference from last year…goals for this year vs last will not be much different…
You know it can’t be JM. In fact anyone on the team who says anything against the zebras is marked for future “consideration”. Crap officiating has been a part of this league for years and is growing.
I agree that Gomez is not playing well, but when will you haters get it out of your heads that he is NOT PAID TO SCORE GOALS???? He is a playmaker, so if you want to criticize him, don’t talk about his goal total.
ok….what did Eller do tonight? 7 shifts…all looked pretty good to me…he seemed toa ctually have a little jump…but…
Pyatt is not getting his job on the Gomez line…he is not going anywhere near then net and just does not appear interested in going to open space or dangerous space
Cammi….might be time to let andrei and Pleks play togetther and see if cami can get go and gomez going…since they don;t seem to want to give any other option a whirl
Take the leas off PK…yeah he was getting a little crazy before but I liked that better than literally turning him into “PK” Subban…he seems so afraid to do anything and we neeeeeeed a spark…from somewhere.
The reffing..atrocious…this game looks like a pre new NHL game, a ton of interference and garbage …but ..then a low heading penalty on Pleks and two Belly flops by the Martin F (fatty) Brodeur….we got away with a couple early too but ti has been just brutal all round and Jersey is taking far better advantage of the crap reffing than we are
Price….what did that kid do in his past lives?
Overall the game has been pretty boring and we are not getting outplayed…but as per usual it’s the little things that kill and an extremely frustrating game to watch. This si the type of game where you throw out the lne combos and jsut start mixing and matching for some kind of spark….Gio and Gomer looked interested early…until they realized they were alone again….
Hey guys, if you don’t mind a suggestion. When someone (troll) comes on here with nothing useful to say let them wallow in their ignorance by not responding. Taking the bait just makes us look as foolish as they are. Read it take a deep breath chuckle and move on…it’s the best way to deal with stupidity.
The ignorant are just looking for an audience….let them be!
If you read on you can see that a couple of trolls are deliberately trying to incite something. Discussion, debate it’s all good but you can really spot those that are here to incite stuff.
Just where in my comment did I do that? You’re making up stuff just to stir the pot again and you should know me well enough by now to know I’m not easily baited by childish challenges. Grow up Stephen and try to carry on an adult conversation.
I don’t disagree but pissing and moaning about it doesn’t solve anything.
These guys need to put their heads down and play through it. There’s no excuse for the lack of scoring chances in this game.
How many times have we dumped the puck into their zone tonight and actually skated hard after it? 3, 4?
I agree that they clutch and grab with no consequence but we need to be able to adapt to that kind of game regardless of whether the rules are enforced or not. And that’s on everybody, players and coaches.
If the Devils keep holding and hooking with no penalty calls, keep slashing and elbowing them. The penalties will stop at some point.
This is exactly why the Flyers get away with murder in the playoffs every year. The officials don’t want to call everything, so they allow leeway for a team they consider to be on the edge to play on that edge and only call infractions when they blatantly cross the line. We need to find that edge. It’s the only way we’ll be able to respond to a teams like the Flyers and Devils whose respective styles give us problems when the officials’ whistles get burried in their pockets.
The only thing I can’t comprehend from tonight aside from Brodeur diving twice and not being called is that in the first period a Devils player picked up Brodeur’s stick while holding his own and skated it to him. Clearly a penalty and it was just stared at the entire time.
Ugly night for sure…Before everyone makes an appointment with their therapist…don’t forget Stevie Y and Guy Boucher’s Lighting got pelted 6-0 the other night…
I loved Jacques Lemaire the player. Heck I even liked him as coach of the Habs way back when notwithstanding trying to mould Lafleur into being a two-way player. But for having a hand in this travesty that is the trap, I hate the dude.
I can’t stand the New Jersey Devils. I’m sick of them, they get every call, they’re boring to watch and Marty Brodeur get’s more credit then he deserves (ie. Roy was better).
Jersey playing the prototypical road game, they came in with a plan, keeping everything to the outside, what can ya do. Go into Ottawa in 2 days and take a road W, lots of season left.
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

I think he has played fine….he just needs to repent for the sins of his past lives and rid himself of this horrible curse…behind the net and two defelctions…the kid needs a witch doctor or something…
We can’t get open, we aren’t winning any pucks, our positioning is bad, and we are a step behind. Our shots are from useless spots, and the puck seems to be bouncing away from us. Martin Brodeur gets the shutout.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
First period was thei best, and Brodeur played great. He has made some great saves tonight, but the biggest problem is not traffic in the slot. Not enough movement in the offensive zone.
Brodeur has not had to make any spectactular saves this period that is for sure.
well it looks liek the devild of 1995 playing the nhl hockey of 1995….there have been about 25 intereference infractiosn taht have gone uncalled and then a high stick on a low heading and two swan dives bu Broderu…the first one maybe …but they should have called a dive on both regardless…if a palyer flopped liek that they would..a.t least a Montreal one. The pp we get….gets taken away and then we get one once the game is over…so at the end of the night the line looks ok but it has been brutal. Pleks has been whining all night and he usually isn’t a whiner….I am not saying it hasn;t gone both ways as early we had calls that were let go…but it hasa been faaaar heavier the other way and old style hockey is a disadvantage in itself to our team makeup…we are not built for 1990′s clutch and grab hockey…they jsut need some consistence….we have gio, gomer, cammi and pleks as our best three forwards…they are effective when the new rules are applied…when they are not……..it gets a little uglier…auger has flat out sucked tonight…..even f he ahd just “let them play”…that sucks…taht is a disadvantage right away to us vs anyone in this league.
What’s this? Gomez takes up 1/8 of the Habs cap!!! Incredible news. No-one here knew that. How informative. Please do some more research and impart some more wisdom on us, wisdom tinted with your classic and high-brow humor. NOT!
Hockey is a team game. We lose because Price doesn’t get a shutout and because our forwards/defencemen can’t score. Basically the loss belongs to the TEAM!
Nothing more nothing less. Lay off the blaming individual players…you win and/or lose as a team!
Price makes a few key saves and Marty F makes a couple of key dives! How was the2nd call interference when Marty F skates out in front of his paint when Gio is trying to get into position??/ Bullsh#t
There is no excuse for this kind of game. This team will never win another Cup unless they get an owner who cares. I’m tired of this crap. How can you not be prepared for this game? It seems like the players looked at the other team’s record. I know it’s only one regular season game but please….the fans pay too much money to watch crap.
Very well said. No excuse for this crap is right. I dont care that it’s a regular season game. Gomez should give money back. He’s my whipping boy tonight
Most nonsensical post I have read…Yeah the team lost, it happens, how could they not be prepared for this game? Four days off? I dont know sometimes you just lose? Yeah they didnt play well, it’s just one game! don’t overreact!
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

No – the little pest/cheerleader who called me names for daring to point out that Gomer eats 1/8 of our cap. I thought your suggestion of Russia was bang-on.
as long as we pick up 12 points evey 10 games we are in good shape…people have to understand that the talent level on this team is not great and we will lose 4 out of every ten games regularly…
So Brodeur made 29 saves …big deal…except for maybe 2 decent stops he saw everything. Guess the habs didn’t want to get hit with the puck so they moved aside.
So Brodeur made 29 saves …big deal…except for maybe 2 decent stops he saw everything. Guess the habs didn’t want to get hit with the puck so they moved aside.
3 GOALS ON 13 SHOTS and softie’s to boot…you guy’s got what you wanted now sit in it ! Well ,Jersey’s back thanks to the Habs and Carey Price….. Man I’m pissed!!! Here come the Play-off’s”not this year”.Price should of been Brodeur’s back up and learned from the BEST…he could of been a contender!
He’s supposed to stop uncovered players on the backdoor who deflect pucks in with their glove and stop pucks that he can’t see through Gorges off of faceoffs.
Oh yeah, and he’s supposed to win when his team scores 0 goals right?
Yeah. You’re pathetic. And I’m not saying that in an attempt to bully you. I’m saying it because you’re chosing to criticize the play of our goaltender following a 3-0 loss.
Typical Habs vs New Jersey game. The Devils plug the middle in front of Brodeur and the Habs don’t fight through it for whatever reason. Brodeur stands on his head when he needs too and the Habs leave their goalie out to dry.
this game is terrible…………where are those well paid players…if it was not for Price it would be a 5-0 game…………I do not believe that a lay off does our guys any good they seem to take a long time to get their legs which I see to-nite……….don’t anyone on this post blame Price for the loss to-nite…………… the Devils have out-played them in this game another 2 points lost & how many more due to the lack of size & desire to win…………FED UP ALREADY
No matter the trades, injuries, and slumps over a hockey season, one thing is certain. When the Devils need to get back on track, a road game in Montreal is the cure.
This Devil domination gets more and more excruciating. It all started with Claude Lemieux’s first game back in a Devil’s uni.
The plain truth here is, the Devil’s forechecked and doubled teamed any Hab that started a play taking away our open style game. The troubling thing about it is that it happened in all 3 periods without any counter by JM.
Can’t say I’m all broken up about this tonight. They get embarrassed like this and maybe it gives them the kick in the pants they deserve. Blame the trap if you want, blame the refs, blame the curse of Brodeur. None of that really matters. No excuses. Our guys did not come to play tonight.
This has nothing to do with coaching or missing line mates or salaries or goalies. Nobody showed up except the 21000+ fans who deserved way more for their money than what our guys gave tonight.
Regroup, put a beating on the Sens and wash this one from your memories.
Not our goalie’s fault by any means. Maybe he could have had one of them but he also made some great saves. We were beaten to the puck all night. It was boring to watch. If the refs called some of their interference early we might have had more room.
They really do have to get rid of Spacek somehow..he’s been brutal. and still has another year left after this one..I think I said this the other night but at this point id rather have MAB in his spot…equally terrible at D but MAB can hit the net..sometimes.
this team is still 2-3 years away so lets enjoy the season and be more realistic…if our roster was named the bruins or leafs or any other team in the nhl than most posters would have a much more realistic evaluation of the team and talent level….this game was not much different than the one we won in buffalo …again there will be many games like this and hopefully we will be at the winning end of many of them
Imagine if we had Crosby and Malkin instead of Plekanec and Gomez, Kovy instead of Pouli and Ovechkin instead of AK46 and Henrik Sedin instead of Gionta
I was hoping we would move either him over the summer to allow us to enter the volchenkov sweepstakes. Or at least some other younger much more useful dman.
Statistically speaking we’d be no better, we’re only 6 games into the season so the chances are middling at best Kovalev would have given a crap in one of those games.
Have we hit 1200 posts yet? A good sign the habs were brutal tonight. Man… Jersey played perfect road trap boring ass hockey tonight. The habs, on the other hand, made Brodeur look like he was…Martin Brodeur…. But really a few of our good chances were sent into his crest or was a pad save. Also, I saw no adaptation from the habs tonight. It was as if the score didnt matter to JM, I bet he was loving the display, by the way of Montreal allowing so few shots. I bet the press conference will sound something to the effect that “special teams were the difference tonight…”.
I’m personally upset that I had to wait for this game, they need to have good games after a break that long. Next time can you guys suck the game after a long break? That’d be great. Thanks in advance.
I just hate all the childish blame game crap that goes on here nightly. Sometimes a team turns in a stinker and tonight was out night. But it was the team who did it not any one individual. Ahhh, nobody wants to hear that. All they want to do is rant, rave and lay blame. Freaking immature.
Maybe it’s me but I found the teams equal, the big difference they have a Goalie and we have a back-up”Two back ups! ” and like I said before if you all think we’re going anywhere but down with Price and Auld you have been BRAINWASHED!
I’ve been brainwashed?! Do you have any more of that tin foil that you have been using?! They could be listening to me RIGHT NOW?! Oh wait I’m not brain washed, I just dont have some insane personal vendetta against Carey Price, did he ignore you once when you asked him for an autograph or something? He’s a number one goalie and we are lucky to have him. For the sake of everyone here stop posting this drivel.
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

It’s just you. Well maybe you and that habs youngtimer guy. Well you and TripleX. Hmmm. Tony? Yep! Good company you’re keeping. So when do you start talking about how great Burke and Kessel are?
I wonder if this game would have been as deflating if it happened the night following our alst win over the Sens….I think every day we waited for it multiplied the frustration….It was like waiting decades for another Star Wars and then listening to Jar Jar Binks ….. I can watch it now but I quit the first time and couldn’t take it seriously for a long time….now I watch them all the time and I jsut accept it…but man it was disappointing after all that time in between
Ok, look we allll know you hate Price for some unknown reason, did he sleep with your sister or something? Seriously.
Anyway, it’s no point even debating why you don’t like him, or even remotely support him seeing that he plays for a team you are saying you are a fan of.
Unless of course you are just a fairweather fan of the team, which in this case, your “opinions” have zero, zilch, nada validity.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
This is by far one of the dumbest posts I have ever read. You either didn’t watch the game, or have no clue what your talking about. In fact I think its both. Price made some great saves tonight. We didn’t score, cause we didn’t create or get any good chances.
In order to be brainwashed you have to have a brain, I understand now why it didn’t work on you.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I disagree with some of what Triple X says, but he has never posted anything particularly stupid, in fact his posts are usually well thought out. Nothing that even comes close to this idiocy. This in Nuna territory.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
1) Price got hung out to dry… again. Oh yeah… Price could’ve played better, stopped shots he couldn’t see, then we would’ve lost 0-0.
2) Everytime something got going, we got a penalty. Refs had just a bad a game as the Habs. The high stick that Plekanec gave was hysterical. How do you high stick a guy if he’s on his hands and knees? 2 mins for low-facing.
3) No one was interested. Price looked good. Subban was the best Hab on the ice. Beyond that, I’m glad I didn’t waste money on admission.
Summary: These things happen. Sometimes good teams suck. The Montreal Canadiens are a good team, just not tonight. I can’t listen to one more “Martin F.” comment. My grandmother could’ve played nets for the Devils tonight, and the score would’ve been the same. Let the guys go home, try and forget about it, then come back on Saturday and DESTROY the Sens.
Seriously, everybody get off this site. There’s no need to change anything on the roster, trade anybody, etc. It’s counter-productive to you all enjoying the rest of your night. Go read reddit for a bit. There’s no point in analyzing a game like tonight. 2 free points to the Devils and we’ll move on.
“I lined up next to him at a faceoff, looked over and said “Hi Rocket”. All he did was growl.”
And Halak. He would stopped so many Devils shots tonight that the refs would’ve awarded us a goal out of sympathy for the load he would’ve had to handle.
You should download “The Phantom Edit”. It’s incredible. It’s the Phantom Menace, but re-edited by some fan. It’s absolutely mind-boggling how much of a better movie it is all around.
Spoiler: ALL of Jar Jar’s lines are cut. Sounds dumb, but it works.
“I lined up next to him at a faceoff, looked over and said “Hi Rocket”. All he did was growl.”
Lost in OT so they get the loser point. Let me see, Tampa leading their division with a 4-1-1 record. I know it is not 6-0 but it is still better than the Habs.
I would not be surprised if Boucher wins the Adams after the Lightning make the playoffs.
ps both Smith and Ellis have brutal SVP and GAA….imagine if Boucher had better than average goaltending?
Personally, i watched pens-habs playoff highlights everyday. once in a while i would throw in the odd 5-0 comback highlights, as well. kept me somewhat sane untill the first televised pre-season game was on.
Don’t even bring that up, I’m in Alberta right now so it’s really only 5pm, and I’m still complaining. Feels weird to have Habs games regularly end before 8pm though. Very unfamiliar.
yep. McGuire. The leafs have done well so far this year, we can’t take that away from them, but sometimes it gets a little hard on the ears. I don’t find Bob Mac to “leafy”, but McGuire, even though I don’t think he is a big leaf fan really can lay it on thick. He can be very insightful on occasion, but not when it involves the leafs!
Mcguire is a fan of whatever team he’s asked to cover or if they have one of ‘his guys’ on it. With Komisarek and Schenn… oh boy it’s a lovefest for tall dumb brutes.
Im watching the leafs-rangers game right now before the habs game is on. (im hoping to see a few goals scored on the leafs) I couldnt believe how QUIET this Toronto crowd really is!! do they fill their seats with cardboard cut-outs??
For smallish ones but teal tasty try Patati Patata 4177 St-Laurent or for a burger which will never have you asking “where’s the beef” try La Paryse 302 Ontario E.
“99% covered”, he announces sagely - and unlucky Carey gets beaten by blind luck. Now I see why you guys luv Price so much. Even when he lazily doesn’t hug the post, he’s still golden in your eyes. You see only what you want to see. The Emperor has no clothes.
Hey Shiloh, I said nothing about Price being unlucky with that play. He should have hugged the entire post, but he left a little space open, and got burned for it.
In regards to “our” posts, you’re the one who’s seeing only what you want to see.
Do the officials not realize that it’s a penalty for a player to hold two sticks at one time, and that it’s also a penalty for a player to pick up a goalie’s stick, while holding his own, and pass it to him?
We better score 3-4 goals – Brodeur’s been on a huge slump – I’ll hate to see him break out of his slump against us. It always seems like teams break their slumps against us.
Really crap period. Stop making that boob look like Patrick Roy. We’re shooting right at his chest and pads. Frustrating – all the momentum is gone due to the huge break.
I’m sure they’ve talked about making the fossil Brodeur move a little. Shooting there would’ve done nothing. They warmed him up with all of those 40 footers with no traffic.
They’re going to need to get him moving to beat him. Preferably with traffic in front.
Damn, I’m fighting hard to keep my eyes open. I’m gonna PVR the rest of the game and see later in anything happened. Is it any surprise to anyone these guys can’t sell tickets?
Worst case scenario happened, weak first goal and they play the trap the rest of the game.
I suspect they’ll be some cuss words flying in the room about now. Guys better get their heads out of the clouds (or lower regions). This has the strangely familiar and not so pleasant odor of last season; suck in the first, star in the second, sit on a one goal lead in the third. Ugh!
Yep. Shot is better than not pulling the trigger for sure. He just didn’t have any way of knowing that he wouldn’t get the shot off because the Devils have been giving up the perimeter and taking away the middle since the opening faceoff.
anyone else notice eller between boyd and moen? or was it during a line change. too bad the devils scored, but them’s the breaks. that goal looked like the results of a defensive breakdown/turnover. still, they all count. we’re outshooting them, out playing them really, so that’s positive. eller looked good for a couple of shifts. great pass by pyatt to gionta on an early rush. decent shot but from the outside. i think pyatt, gio, and gomez have some jump tonight. kostitsyn should have shot the puck on the last minute rush. all in all acceptable play for me. they just need to crack brodeur. not one of the easiest feats in the league, regardless of his record this year. he’s a hall of famer that excels in montreal. that said, if we can get the crowd into this game with one goal….
Brodeur is the greatest Goaltender of all time and those who slam him in his end of career would also slam Babe Ruth ,Bobby Orr,Jim Rice , Wilt Chamberland and Ali ! Remember this Marty was a real good Goalie way before Price lived in his Daddy’s nut sack and it will be a BIG SURPRISE if Carey Price comes even close to being able to sniff ,never mind hold Brodeur’s jock!
I am not slamming Brodeur ‘at the end of his career’, I am just mad that Brodeur’s been on a huge slump and we can’t manage to put a damn puck behind him. We are making him look good by shooting right at his chest. I do believe that Brodeur is the greatest of all-time, but he isn’t the greatest right now. And the Habs need to take advantage of the fact that he’s in a slump right now. Just frustrated bud.
He’s not. He’s a very good goalie who played behind a great defensive team and was allowed to play an unusual number of games and has great longevity. You could make the argument that at no point in his career was he the best goalie in the NHL.
But an entire mystique of hype was established around him starting with the Olympics, and now he’s a sacred cow.
All the goaltending giants that have come through Montreal and you see Brodeur as No. 1? Please Roy stands as the best man in a money situation in the last 25 years. I don’t even like him and I acknowledge that.
He never dragged a team to Olympic Gold on his back like Hasek either.
Brodeur is one of all-time greatest goalies and he’s a sure HOFer. However he’s a shadow of his former self and he’s the enemy tonight in all his chubby glory!!!!
Price is the Habs goalie. You know, the one Habs fans cheer for.
You had me all the way to the Price slag. Why couldn’t you just leave it kudos for Brodeur? (Maybe not the all time best tender but one of the top 5 in my books). Your desire to start a shitstorm with yet another senseless Price slag is childish, immature and petty. Put down the bottle and go to bed.
Not only does Jersey get no penalty for tackling Pleks, the face-off goes outside. Is this the kind of hockey the NHL thinks will grow the game? Boring, suffocating – horrible to watch.
Hockey Inside/Out encourages lively debate, but there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism, profanity and behaviour that we deem to be offensive.

They went undefeated in 12, which included 1 tie.

Chris Aung-Thwin has posted a new article on The Other Wing (right hand side of the page, scroll down).
isn’t it what coach is for? if your players can’t figure it out you go home, watch some videos, draw up some plays, practice them… you know… the whole coaching bit.
I think it was 5 straight losses to start the season. But it must have been just the trigger. I am sure there was stuff between Savard and/or Demers and Corey that lead to Corey pulling the trigger.
sorry, i was wondering how you could find the time to globe trot to NHL games!! hahaha
“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB
They are completely different players. Halpern is pretty good defensively and strong in the corners and prevents Plekanec from logging too much ice-time. That being said, it is hard to find a big guy that wants to stand in front of the net instead of 5 feet away from it ( a la Latendresse).
It seems you’ve got the brawn to beat me if this was all it takes,
But I’ve got skills to pay the bills and punish each of your mistakes.
35 points/season the last 3 isn’t that great a total. However, you can’t teach size and toughness and Byfuglien definitely has those.

I’m sure that our powerplay would be a lot more effective than it has been if Byfuglien were crashing the crease.
some of you fans are funny but i like it
Gopnik is a great writer and he has an awesome job. Is he doing some kind of piece about the game?
Interesting.
Habs 5 Devils 2.
TSN breaking the news that Kovelev has so far been “Not very good”. Who knew?
On the broadcasting front…TSN has just announced that they are now the official English-Language broadcaster of the Habs…24-30 games over the next 2-3 seasons from Eastern Ontario to Atlantic Canada…makes sense since TSN and RDS are owned by the same entity and the Habs gave TSN a great first round in the playoffs last season.
I guess that destroys that oft-mentioned rumor that The Score wanted to broadcast all the Habs games in English.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Brodeur almost always plays well against us.
Hopefully Price will see this as an opportunity.
SOMEONE please remind me WHY Houle/Tremblay replaced Savard/Demers on that dark day in 1995?
Does anyone even remember the reason?
I went into a long funk subsequent thereto and blocked it from my brain, such as it is, was, or will ever be.
I don’t want to go down memory lane, but some days you just have no choice.
You missed the boat on that one!
I saw Detroit play in Phoenix Saturday night and will see LA play in Phoenix this evening.

I really hope I’m wrong, but I don’t have a good feeling about tonight…4 days off, Jersey on edge after a poor start, and Martin F. coming home…yikes!
GO HABS GO!!

Nasty……
To be fair, the paranoia isn’t unwarranted.
Oh good, typical Russian paranoia.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
I’ve never seen a player able to consistantly gain the offensive zone like Gomez. They just need to figure out what to do from there. And I think they will.
Lappy.
More likely Avtsin will be back in Russia and Schultz a career AHLer.
Tough kid, though. More than 100 PiM in the W last season
Wayyyy mon boy!!!! merci

I like Gallagher. Could go the way of Gionta.
Yet the NHL was smart enough to approve a new building for New Jersey. That’s a team that should fold, their attendance has been as bad as sunbelt teams for years now. They have Kovalchuk and they can’t even come close to a sellout, that’s beyond pathetic
Hurry up and drop the puck. I’m getting antsy.

The Habs are making me slightly less bi-polar.
Last season their sellouts involved 30$ tickets for the upper bowl.

… The refs for tonight’s sleeper will be Stephane Auger and Stephen Walkom (both had an average season in 2009/2010).

Really and you know this how?
I went to the Detroit game on Saturday and will see LA this evening neither tickets were that cheap!
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante

I’m stuck on the road in Guelph and don’t have my beloved RDS HD feed or PVR arggggghhhhhh…. Any buddy out there have a live feed link for tonites tilt?
OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!
Phoenix was a winner last season and their tickets are about as cheap as an AHL ticket. They flop around this year it’ll go right back down. NJD never draw a crowd anyway.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Coach? What is that?
Hope ur right SF. Theo was a good one for sure much like St Louis.
Finally you’re getting it
Gallagher is about a 4 to 5-year project realistically for the Habs I’d say, by then we could have a different Top-6 unit entirely and room for a small, but dangerous scoring forward.
In 5 years, Kristo, Leblanc and Avtsin could be headlining some offence and Ian Schultz could be our Hartnell or Knuble.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB
Right you are Boone. Those two set back the organization for years and we are only recovering. God that was an awful time.
When the Habs win this game, Brodeur will know he’s getting old.
-Gordie Howe
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Yeah, unfortunately I see him as being the next Deharnais.

Columbus drew 9,802 last night.
Atlanta drew 8,820 last night.
Tampa drew 13,277 Monday.
Anaheim drew 13,574 Sunday.
Last Saturday:
Jersey drew 13,056,
Dallas drew 11,750,
the Islander drew 10,127
but Phoenix drew 17,125
Also LA, you can ask Patrick Roy.
The Devils ruin the game of hockey.
Canadiens will score the next goal. We got a PP comin
Boring – and Jersey has to have it figured out by now that they can interfere, clutch, grab and tackle anybody they like.
Yet people throw him under the bus
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
I hope I never have to listen to Chico Resch talk about rodeo ever again.

GO HABS GO!
Horrible boring Devils hockey, and Montreal without the legs.
Interference, holding, hooking, slashing. Getting away with these is what has made Jersey so good for so long.
Does he jinx work if we wish a shutout to Marty F ?
Oh Fatso!
darn it, anywhere but right at his chest!
Nice to see some other teams D getting turnstiled instead of our own…
Man this game is boring.
we will have many games this year that will be one goal games…most teams are limited in goal scorers…
As few chances as the habs have had NJ has almost had less…
Devils are making it look like the Habs are skating on a smaller rink.

Where’s the puck!
I know it’s better than nuttin’ but this youtube feed/stream of hockey can only be classified as “the UN-HD”. I feel like an alien on some planet watching a signal that took 52 light years to get to me. I need my RDS back.
On topic here: Devils=Pesky
Couple of thoughts:
- Most boring game I’ve seen in years. Maybe ever.
- Habs (to a man) look like they’ve indulged a few too many home cooked meals this week
- Is there any team that stick checks more than Jersey? Synchronized stick checking. Everything Cammy shoots is in the rafters, as he’s double or triple stick checked.
To stay competitive, Marty’s girth will grow in proportion to his diminishing mobility.
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
do the devils not have to play by the same interference rules????
I AGREE……………………..RIGHT ON TOP OF MARTY & SOME BODIES IN FRONT OF HIM…………….DREAM ON!!!!!!!
“NOTHING going. It will be 2-0 soon”:
Stop doing that!
Watching the Centre Ice feed from MSG – very interesting to get the other side’s impression of the game (as boring as it has been so far)
They are hesitant to give praise to their team and are hoping against hope that the flukey goal is a sign that things are going to get better for them.
Very weird to listen to, but illuminating.
Do we ever get a fair shake from the zebras?
Almost forgot how I dislike the Devils, especially Brodeur and Parise.
And the Devils feed that I am watching makes me sick..
I like the addition of Pyatt.
I reserve judgement until game 20, but it does appear a little imbalanced.
Sometimes, but Auger and Walkom are hacks.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
If Quebec seperates, and the Habs move to Oklahoma, maybe then.
HAHA. There’s Pouliot’s luck ladies and gentleman, he deflects a Josh Gorges shot in the slot and instead of the puck continuing on it’s course toward the net it comes straight down and stops immediately once it hits the ice.
Classic. He must feel great right now.
Man, they just cannot buy a goal.
And Gio gets crosschecked in the face 2 feet in front of the ref.
Inevitable. What can we do to get away from this jinx or hex someone put on us… ALL our luck is gone…
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
if brodeur gotta piece of that….
Miss an open net then flub a breakaway pass… sigh.
Wow, people are negavtive here tonight.
Yes the Habs are playing bad, just don’t jump on people because Brodeur has made 28 saves already, some difficult
Tell Moen to skate as hard as he can from their blueline in and not to stop until Brodeur is in the third row.
plecanek looks pissed out there!
we need to trade for avery just to play against the f’in devils
.::DON’T MESS WITH THE MOENATOR!::.
I blame MikeG for this…….yup…it is his fault….
Not being mean. He just hasn’t been lights out, that’s a sizeable exaggeration.
3 difficult saves by my count. But I could be off by one or two.
Come on!
Brodeur two shitouts in one week!
Say it ain’t so
lol don’t even single anyone out, the whole team is garbage tonight
The sky is falling!
Watch the game and stop disecting everything Price does.
imagine if you paid money to watch this game??
man…i would quit watching hockey for good if this sh*tshow cost me 300 bucks.
Gomez sucks, cant stand looking at his face anymore. What a efin waste of money and space
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Trading for Gomer’s salary for 4 years was as big an error as shipping out Patrick Roy. A mistake as big as any in our history….
Who’s blaming Price?
I thought everyone was jumping on everyone, BUT Price
New Jersey F. Devils
These guys are squeezing their sticks. Nothing doing tonight.
Wow, dramatic much?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
3 goals on 13 shots is not great no matter how you want to spin it. He is not the main reason for the loss by a long shot, but saying he is totally without fault is disingenuous.
‘Cogito ergo doleo’
Sheesh, who shit in your flakes?
Just an observation. Brodeur’s best records are against the Habs, he plays well ALL THE TIME VS MONTREAL!
Even worse than trading Halak for Eller and Schultz? HERESY!!!!!!
Its called venting, It’s what happens when we play the Devils. Oh yea, Gomez sucks
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
That is reasonable
Jacques Martin out!
no we don’t.
Too bad JM will never take him off the that line like he deserves. In JM’s playbook the veterans never get blamed.
‘Cogito ergo doleo’
Fack I hate losing to Brodeur
I disagree, unless doug janik wins a norris or conn smythe trophy this year.
Haha, awesome post.
So clearly sarcastic but it will fly over many heads nonetheless.
LOL
That is the most over dramatic statement I’ve ever seen made about this team.
What player specifically could’ve filled that role?
None that we could acquire.
I’ve got 7.4 million reasons for believing it. Unless we bury him in the minors we can’t have him using all that space. Even when he’s OK, he’s a 50-60 point guy. Right now he isn’t playing well enough to dress.
Could’ve gotten the player, but at the cost of the farm.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Yeah, I should have said nobody at a reasonable cost.
Hossa, Gomez and Gionta would be the best line in the league……..seriously.
The only thing they need is a forward capable of giving them time to get open in the offensive zone.
Brodeur = Lights out!
at this point all i can do is laugh
Gomez is playing awful – he’s simply useless out there. Darche would be better.
Ridiculous. Nothing is going our way tonight.
Is ANYTHING going to go this team’s way tonight?
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
Jesus gio,how did you miss that?
I know but I don’t feel it.
Just look at the PP that’s on now..
LOL!
“sacred cow” LMAO
Gomez has been horrible for us so far, probably the most underachieving player we have.
PK was our best skater, Price had a solid game overall.
That sure was a boring, frustrating game to watch.
Can’t win without scoring any goals. Simple as that.
I can’t believe the Habs haven’t give Pouliot more of a shot on that line. If he’s in the doghouse this badly already, they should have seen it coming and not re-signed him this past offseason.
Agree with you. In fact, i think it is G and G that need to go to the doghouse.
Good point!
Oh, and I didn’t mean to mention this in front of everybody, but I think that you’ve got a hand full of moose junk.

no. that’s where Gio was called for goaltender interfeence. I think Stephane Auger is the second coming of Kerry (the coiff . hab hater) Fraser.
Refs sucked tnight
Jim-out. I BELIEVE!
Yeah right…
I like how quickly TSN updated to remove the leaf’s loss as the main spotlight.
I’m really, really glad thr Habs I/O Summit has NOTHING to do with a Devils game.

So now that people have called you out on not actually watching the game you’re pulling the consistency card.
And guess what, he’s been consistent through 6 games this season.
Try again half fan.

If I were an NHL official and Gionta shook his head at a call I made. I’d probably know right away it was the wrong call.
Has the guy ever argued with an official?
Yep. ESPECIALLY your captain. He’s the guy who’s got to suck it up and take the high road.

The funniest thing is that this whole night is summed up so succinctly by Boone. Marty F.
HIO running gags are aplenty.
That’s what I was saying!
Yep. It was right with the question they asked Price about the ice. Price said it wasn’t perfect, but acknowledged that you can’t use it as an excuse.

I know
that is an interesting one that I have never heard…I am having a hard time imagining it….would you then move the bluelines a few feet closer to the middle….I think that may help too…I like your idea thoguh…I;d like to see it tried? has it been?
You wanna eliminate this type of hockey get rid of the middle red line as the icing line and use your own blue line instead. This take away the neutral zone trapping.
LOVE that idea.
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
GO HABS GO
Good to hear an analysis based on his past like that. Hope things are going better for you now.
Faceoffs are the easiest place on the ice to get away with whatever you want to do.
Spear a guy, trip a guy, slash a guy. It’s all part of the motion involved in taking a draw.
Man I miss taking faceoffs.
Interference – Zajak – not called. I thought when you took a faceoff you were supposed to try to touch the puck – not hook and grab the other player.
Hoglund.
I don’t miss those days.
I wouldn’t move anything. It forces the defence to back up or at least think twice of standing up in the neutral zone because of the possibility of the longer dump in hence taking the congestion out of the neutral zone.
We do that in my men’s league… but that might not be the highest of calibre to judge its effects
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
just worried you get a similar trap …as it is really only the dump in that helps….if you moved the blueline up….there would be more room to chip the puck in and it would be harder for teams to get it out if you did dump it in behind them….it might force them to back up and speed things up….as the punishment for allowing deep pucks would be worse IMO.
I hope brian burke doesn’t visit here and read this idea. He has a history of taking credit for other peoples work, lol.
I know its been said a couple of times already but the devils sure know how to run just enough interference without getting caught.
DRIVING ME CRAZY
CAREY! CAREY!
WOW! Pricey keeps it out!
What a stop… now that’s some puck tracking and anticipation.
great save by carey
In what world was that not interference on Gionta?!?
Where they have their Pro line tickets filled out for NJD.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Just my humble opinion.
No I didn’t switch over to watch the Leafs / Rangers game. I did not. No I didn’t. No siree. Didn’t happen.
Where’s the passion?
question: jacques martin, what did you think of the officiating tonight?
martin: (crickets)
somebody should question some of these calls.
Is ther a better team at wasting minutes than New Jersey? It’s like your team never has time to get anything done… and before you know it, the period’s over.

usual game for Price. allows 2 softies/game.
where is Halak when we need him.
Leafs within one…
Troll.
Great game. I was there. We had run and gun mentality that night. Different team today.
Oh yeah Halak would snipe 2 top corners against Brodeur. Holy crap man limit your whining.
Allowing 3 softies per game in St. Louis.
Price is playing great.
I have a feeling it goes to a shootout, weird, but I really think that is how the Habs win it tonight.

Well, I thinks coaches should spend some time before next game trying to find out who slippin’ the doplicone into the gatorade.
forgot to put on your glasses hih. didn’t see the 2 softies he let in.
forgot to put on your glasses huh. didn’t see the 2 softies he let in.
“Seconds after a NJ power play had expired, Jason Arnott beat Carey Price
with a shot between his pads for the only goal of the period.”
Boone, ya need to check the replay, that goal was a deflection off of a stick, I forgot whos. It wasnt really a weak goal.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Rough one tonight…Gionta and Gomez are brutal so far this year…Not sure what it will take for them to generate some offense but we need it now…
Pleks line is looking out of synch also…AK46 is going zombie again…those days off killed his momentum I guess…
Brodeur brings his jinx to the Bell Center again…

Tech question for some of the IT guys out there:
When I’m steaming the game, the video keeps freezing up for extended periods of time (audio is fine though). Any idea what’s causing this? I’ve never had problems in the past.

cannot win every game and most nights we will be in 2-1 3-2 games…in the players we lost from last year and the players we gained we are better for it but basically no difference in scoring…all last year we struggled to score and the reason we should do better this year is because of pk and less injuries…but overall it will not add a significant scoring difference from last year…goals for this year vs last will not be much different…
it was off boyd’s hand.

I agree that Gomez is not playing well, but when will you haters get it out of your heads that he is NOT PAID TO SCORE GOALS???? He is a playmaker, so if you want to criticize him, don’t talk about his goal total.

Impressed by Eller and Pyatt tonight – top six forwards umm…not so much. AK46 has been decent.
I was watching it on my roommate’s laptop with no issue. I think it might be something internal to my computer.

good assessment.
A comeback would be cool
lol…since Martin F. Brodeur is bending the Habs over tonight does that count as p@#n???
“Six more years…God Bless You Turtleneck Man!”
ok….what did Eller do tonight?
At least go down on your shields!

Is there a reason we have people blaming that idiot Auger for this pending loss?
Our team has maybe two shots from the slot all night. We have one defenseman who will cover an opposing player at our back door areas.
And to top it off, our best players are not playing like our best players.
Cammalleri, Plekanec, Gomez, Gionta, Kostitsyn.
Playing like they’d rather be somewhere else.
This one isn’t on that disgrace to the NHL…..Auger.
I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate New Jersey…..

True enough.
We can’t get open, we aren’t winning any pucks, our positioning is bad, and we are a step behind. Our shots are from useless spots, and the puck seems to be bouncing away from us. Martin Brodeur gets the shutout.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
We suck so bad at getting out of our own zone that they don’t even have to trap against us.

Whether Price lets in 3 goals or 30 or 300, who cares if the team in front of him can’t even score 1. But for sure not his best game this season.
First period was thei best, and Brodeur played great. He has made some great saves tonight, but the biggest problem is not traffic in the slot. Not enough movement in the offensive zone.
Brodeur has not had to make any spectactular saves this period that is for sure.
The PP still F’n sucks!
well it looks liek the devild of 1995 playing the nhl hockey of 1995….there have been about 25 intereference infractiosn taht have gone uncalled and then a high stick on a low heading and two swan dives bu Broderu…the first one maybe …but they should have called a dive on both regardless…if a palyer flopped liek that they would..a.t least a Montreal one.
Has he been challenged?
Has he had one scoring chance against him other than the rebound that Cammalleri had off of Subban’s spinorama?
Nope.

Maybe a different centre for Gionta and Pouliot – how about Eller? But then where does Gomez play? One-eighth of our cap has to play….
On top of that, it was the jersey dman who guided Gio right into Brodeur.

Glad there is a game on tonight. Seems like forever since the last one. GO HABS GO!!!
Game against the Devils almost always suck. Not enough victories for my liking.
No matter the trades, injuries, and slumps over a hockey season, one thing is certain. When the Devils need to get back on track, a road game in Montreal is the cure.
Everyone sucked tonight…there I said it.
Now can we trade for Kovalev alreadyÉ
Oh well, couple more beers and I’m gonna crash.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Three star selection will be cancelled tonight due to general lack of candidates.
sad, because it is so true.
Draft lottery here we come. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!
Maybe you didn’t see the game, dub. It was pretty much a TEAM fail.
Not like he got any goal support from his team…bunch of overpaid bums.
lol…these guys suck at floating…Kovalev will show them how it’s done..
“Six more years…God Bless You Turtleneck Man!”
I wouldn’t mind. With Spacek and Hamrlik manning more than 10 minutes per game we aren’t going anywhere.
Still, funny post.
The first one was terrible, the second was a deflection..not his fault. didnt see the third cause I was too p*ssed off to watch the rest.

2 on 1 Fake pass deke
So, brief summary of opinions tonight. Habs are done for the season because:
• the owner doesn’t care about the team
• we kept the wrong goalie
• Gomez is overpaid
• Hammer and Spacek are washed up
• the coach can’t motivate the players
• the refs have it in for us
Hope the summary is helpful, and that I didn’t leave anything out.
1st star – Punkster…….post of the night!
Sad thing is, the Sens will kick our ass.
I mean that was weak, real weak effort.
Not our goalie’s fault by any means. Maybe he could have had one of them but he also made some great saves. We were beaten to the puck all night. It was boring to watch. If the refs called some of their interference early we might have had more room.
That reminds me of…
the next spring, when Martin F. and his team will get knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs, as per usual.
Yup, every single player from Price all the way to O’Byrne.
Huh? There was a game tonight? No? OK going back to sleep.
LOL
On nights like tonight, the Tank avatar should come out
And Brodeur instead of Price and Arnott instead of Lapierre and and and
They really do have to get rid of Spacek somehow..he’s been brutal. and still has another year left after this one..I think I said this the other night but at this point id rather have MAB in his spot…equally terrible at D but MAB can hit the net..sometimes.

Yeah but at least Kovy when his helmet is off and he is playing the halfboards on the PP, we usually scored once in a while
Martin F. on RDS…it’s all he can do to keep from saying “I really, really like coming here to the Bell Center…”
“Six more years…God Bless You Turtleneck Man!”
this team is still 2-3 years away so lets enjoy the season and be more realistic…if our roster was named the bruins or leafs or any other team in the nhl than most posters would have a much more realistic evaluation of the team and talent level….this game was not much different than the one we won in buffalo …again there will be many games like this and hopefully we will be at the winning end of many of them
Imagine if we had Crosby and Malkin instead of Plekanec and Gomez, Kovy instead of Pouli and Ovechkin instead of AK46 and Henrik Sedin instead of Gionta
Cammy Sedin Malkin
Ovechkin Crosby Kovalchuk
WOWOW!!!
true dat…or picking his glove up in the corner…our PP has never recovered…
“Six more years…God Bless You Turtleneck Man!”
O’Byrne was the worst player tonight, 0 hits!
Under no circumstances would I trade Price for Brodeur or Lapierre for Arnott at this stage.
10 years ago – yes
Now, they are just overpaid fat old bums that only play well against the Habs.
The Habs still have more points than the Devils… WAKE UP, people!!!!!
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
One thing Marty will ALWAYS have over Roy, is that he was a Franchise player and played for 1 team only
You mean Kovalev???
Are you serious?
I thought you meant Kovalchuk.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, man
I just hate all the childish blame game crap that goes on here nightly.
It’s just you.
One team went to the net and got chances in the slot. The other team was too lazy to try doing these things.
It’s just you.
And you’ve had more head trauma than Eric Lindros.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
You left out that we’re too small.
Hamrlik and Spacek are definitely washed up though.
- Bilbo Baggins
Nothing, the same as your point…
We’re missing MAB on the PP.
Habs are done for the season?
Hahhahahah!!!!
Thanks for making my day (I hope this was meant to be serious because as a sarcasm, it wouldn’t be that funny)
1 terrible game and we’re done for the season, people!
I disagree with some of what Triple X says, but he has never posted anything particularly stupid, in fact his posts are usually well thought out. Nothing that even comes close to this idiocy. This in Nuna territory.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I regret that I can’t get the last three hour back after watching this crap.
Beer helps.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
It’s like you don’t even watch the games…..Oh snap! maybe i’m onto something.
LMFAO
That is the best analogy I have heard. So frickin’ true.
Jar Jar Binks, now I have that whiney voice in my head, thanks Krob.
You know who I feel bad for? The people who paid hard-earned dollars to watch it in person!
I can’t believe Price didn’t score tonight. Martin should put him on the 4th line.
Anybody who pays to watch the Devils deserves it.
Seriously, it’s not a good idea.
Hey where is Tony? What’s a loss without the keen observations of “observer”?
My dad was in the corporate CN Box tonight, I’m going to advise him to have the company demand a refund for NJD games.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Price is on the 5th line dontchaknow.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
This was a very easy game to analyze:
2 free points to the Devils and we’ll move on.

da habs shoulda neber traddy halak. deyza too itty bitty. jacques martin no coach
And Halak. He would stopped so many Devils shots tonight that the refs would’ve awarded us a goal out of sympathy for the load he would’ve had to handle.
Figured it out, eh?

Lost in OT so they get the loser point. Let me see, Tampa leading their division with a 4-1-1 record. I know it is not 6-0 but it is still better than the Habs.
I would not be surprised if Boucher wins the Adams after the Lightning make the playoffs.
ps both Smith and Ellis have brutal SVP and GAA….imagine if Boucher had better than average goaltending?

Ronald Corey is the biggest moron of all time.
Don’t even bring that up, I’m in Alberta right now so it’s really only 5pm, and I’m still complaining. Feels weird to have Habs games regularly end before 8pm though. Very unfamiliar.
It’s so funny how far Pierre is up Toronto’s butt. I really don’t get it.

That’s okay, it will just make worse for them when the inevitable collapse happens and the Bruins get ANOTHER top 5 pick.
The media capitol of Canada…..you really don’t get it?? You’re talking about McGuire, right?
yep. McGuire. The leafs have done well so far this year, we can’t take that away from them, but sometimes it gets a little hard on the ears. I don’t find Bob Mac to “leafy”, but McGuire, even though I don’t think he is a big leaf fan really can lay it on thick. He can be very insightful on occasion, but not when it involves the leafs!

seeing-eye puck there. could the hole been a better fit??
A case of covering up 99%, and the puck finds the other 1%.
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
“99% covered”, he announces sagely - and unlucky Carey gets beaten by blind luck. Now I see why you guys luv Price so much. Even when he lazily doesn’t hug the post, he’s still golden in your eyes. You see only what you want to see. The Emperor has no clothes.
Having the advantage of a pvr and watching in slo-mo helps with the opinion.
Hey Shiloh, I said nothing about Price being unlucky with that play. He should have hugged the entire post, but he left a little space open, and got burned for it.
In regards to “our” posts, you’re the one who’s seeing only what you want to see.
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
Well – if he covered 99% the Jersey guy was lucky to score. I’m not sure he had 50% covered. He’s been way better this year, though.

Really rusty. That’s why I hate long breaks. Ruins all the momentum.

We aren’t challenging them through the middle of the ice and they’re using a lot of chip plays to take advantage of our bad defensemen. #6 and #44.

LOL. How has Martin put anybody other than Halpern on the ice for a faceoff in our zone?
Has he not figured out that #15 is the only guy on our team who can win one?
“People called Romanes they go the house?”
Go Habs Go!
anyone else notice eller between boyd and moen? or was it during a line change. too bad the devils scored, but them’s the breaks. that goal looked like the results of a defensive breakdown/turnover. still, they all count. we’re outshooting them, out playing them really, so that’s positive. eller looked good for a couple of shifts. great pass by pyatt to gionta on an early rush. decent shot but from the outside. i think pyatt, gio, and gomez have some jump tonight. kostitsyn should have shot the puck on the last minute rush. all in all acceptable play for me. they just need to crack brodeur. not one of the easiest feats in the league, regardless of his record this year. he’s a hall of famer that excels in montreal. that said, if we can get the crowd into this game with one goal….
Where on earth did this comment come from?
They Call Me Shane
Aah, there ya are.
Bear in mind, Brodeur always plays outta his mind when he’s in Montreal, so your comment is moot.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Hasek is the best goalie of all time, hands down.

You know, the one Habs fans cheer for.
holds the records but imo not the best ever but will give top 10 billing
You had me all the way to the Price slag. Why couldn’t you just leave it kudos for Brodeur? (Maybe not the all time best tender but one of the top 5 in my books). Your desire to start a shitstorm with yet another senseless Price slag is childish, immature and petty. Put down the bottle and go to bed.
Yawn! You’ve made your point about a hundred times.
Perhaps the most over-rated goalie of all time.
Credit the layoff for the slow start. I hope that thought holds water the rest of the game.
Thats what happens when the habs are down by a goal at any point of the game. The trolls pop up quicker then bristol palins prom dress.
LOL
It’s a ****ing disease I swear to god, you come to Montreal and you don’t believe you can beat Brodeur so you don’t even try.

curse you martin burger! hope you get a shutout
.::DON’T MESS WITH THE MOENATOR!::.
Not only does Jersey get no penalty for tackling Pleks, the face-off goes outside. Is this the kind of hockey the NHL thinks will grow the game? Boring, suffocating – horrible to watch.
Cmoon guys get outta our friggin zone!
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
That’s how the devils win. Push the limit of clutching and grabbing with every play.
nope, their not playing like crap
Gionta, that was awesome even if it wasn’t your fault
Everything is “a la limite” with brunet. Guy gets punched in the head and Brunet will say ” c-etait a la limit d’etre frappe dans bouche
lmao
First game of the season not decided by 1 goal.
…and it’s a loss.
we have 8 mmin to score 2 or 4
OMFG! What a dive by Fatso!
He’s a sacred cow, he knows he’s going to get the calls.
Belle arret! Keep it going Price – stay focused!
Centre Hice: documenting one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens.
Martin F. could play another 20 seasons if all he had to do was play the Habs every game.
