Liveblog: Ho-hum, another loss for the Hab-nots

They made it look easy.

The playoff-bound Rangers got two goals from evil Chris Kreider and singles from J.T. Miller, Derick Brassard and Derek Stepan  in a 5-2 conquest of the lacklustre Canadiens.

Lars Eller (who made it 1-1 in the first period) and Phillip Danault scored for the Canadiens.

Antti Raanta made 23 saves for the W.

Mike Condon played the first two periods and surrendered all five Rangers goals on 19 shots.

Ben Scrivens mopped up with four saves in the third.

  6. theox_8 says:

His cap hit is an extreme bargain , so fair enough one bad season and he still has 24 to date this year . I’m not so sure that trading him would be a great idea as I believe we wouldn’t receive equal value – a top notch 35-40 goal scorer right away . So cooler heads prevail and I expect him to bounce back and have a great year next season .

  7. habsfan0 says:

They say bad luck happens in 3s:

    1)Habs suffer the worst collapse in their 100+ year history en route to missing the playoffs;
    2)Marc Bergevin announces that entire coaching staff will be back next season blaming this debacle on injuries;
    3) The Laffs draft Auston Matthews.

  8. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

Speaking of language, how come nobody talks about how terrible MT’s English is? He is paid millions to coach players making more millions in English. The coach should be fluent in English to properly communicate especially at that salary. I wouldn’t hire him for customer service. But that is how things work in this province.

  9. Bim says:

Billboard on Bell Centre reads: Wanted: 20 NHL bodies. After that. What can you say. Send them all to St.John’s. Get rid of all management and start from scratch. We’re into a complete demolish and rebuild here. I’m searching for something positive to say here but there just isn’t anything. No flow, no nothing! I just can’t see MT or MB returning after witnessing something like that. Would you want them in charge again next year?

  12. BC (Because of the Cats) says:

The utter futility of our powerplay for a fourth consecutive season would be enough of a reason in itself to fire the coaching staff. Add to that the mess our defence has become and the declining effectiveness of our penaty kill, and you have plenty of reasons without even considering system, tactics, or player deployment. But I’m very much afraid Bergevin will assume responsibility for everything that has gone wrong this season with the exception of injuries and give his coaching staff a pass. We’ll start next season wth Therrien behind the bench.

    “We gotta lotta dep.”

    • Coach K says:

You forgot the inability of the farm team to even make the playoffs for at least 3 years in a row…

That level of ineptitude should not continue to be rewarded either.

-There are NO foxholes in hockey-

    • There’s a few of us that agree with you (Therrien). So Bergevin has to improve the assistants. PP and defensive specialists, they’ve everywhere (OHL, WHL, AHL, NHL) Steal them, pay them!

I have to believe Bergevin sees this. The fans don’t care about who coaches as long as he coaches. I have to believe this. Please Oh Hockey God in the ice, please sort this out.

  26. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

What a disorganized mess. Good for the tank which is important because they are going to need an infusion of talent. We thought the offense was bad but the defense is lacking too now. As Markov has aged and no prospect has improved enough to go in the top 4, this defense has become worse. How JJ keeps his job this off-season is beyond me. Anyway, Eller and DD were the best forwards tonight so good for them. Chucky was horrible…hopefully he will learn from his mistakes. I don’t know about you but I have no confidence in the youth of this team. Without a major lotto win or UFA pick-ups, I don’t see how this team will compete for the Cup over the next two seasons.

    • Coach K says:

But Bergevin told Galchenyuk when he signed him that Therrien is one of the best at developing young players. Could it be that he was misinformed or that his own assessment of coaching talent may be less than accurate!!??

    Patience,fellow Habs fans.
6 more games for Michel Therrien as the head coach.
    Remember, it’s a process.

    • danhabsfan says:

I really don’t believe that. This manager MB, will not change the coach unless Mr. Molson steps up.

      • habsfan0 says:

I really had a great deal of confidence in Marc Bergevin’s ability to lead this team to the ultimate goal until last season.
When he simply moved assistant coach Daniel Lacroix laterally to another assistant coaching position rather than canning him over the Habs’ abysmal PP which he was in charge of, MB lost a great deal of credibility in my eyes.

  29. danhabsfan says:

I’m at a loss to understand what MB sees in this coach and his staff (minus goalie coach). Maybe MB is the real problem!

  30. Arnou Ruelle says:

The first special teams are good, except from the defence. But when the 2nd wave where DD-Pleks-Larry are in the PP, it becomes horrible.

-There are NO foxholes in hockey-

  34. SmartDog says:

This game was a new low.
Led by the Captain the Habs gave away in the forever-horrible Gomez deal, and the guy probably responsible for Prices injury woes, and our teams nosedive. Kreider scores 3 points including two goals while dancing in our yard, untouched. Meanwhile our brilliant leader displaces big McCarron so his favourite Pet DD can “lead” the 3rd line and also replace Mac on the power play FFS. Despite that McCarron has been one of the few bright spots for the last several games.
The rookies looked awful, the whole team looks horrible, the franchise is effectively at a zero point. Every other game is a new low water market. Gotta be the most poorly led team in the league now. I have finally come to this: please Molson, clean house. End the Bergevin experiment. Start again. Please.

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

    • spinarama says:

We gave up on Gomez way too early.

    • Coach K says:

It is very discouraging to find the parent club so cluelessly managed and the foundation on the farm crumbling with little to build from. It will be a long way back.

Molson is the only one who can save the organization at this point.

  35. PK says:

Tanks for continuing with the abysmal hockey, Habs.

  36. Arnou Ruelle says:

If this game was an audition for both Desharnais and Emelin, then its obvious they both failed the test. We all know Markov and Plekanec are obviously done for this team. But if this is also a battle for positions on the veterans, then we can now see who should not be back!!

    • HabsFansince49 says:

The only way Desharnais won’t be back is if Therrien is gone. He just loves the little fella. And the only way Therrien won’t be back is if Bergevin is gone. He just loves the stupid coach. And the only way Bergevin won’t be back is if Molson wakes up…which is doubtful.

      • Arnou Ruelle says:

Then I (and some here at HIO) have been saying all along are right: Molson has to do some serious thinking if this is an organization he’ll invest moving forward, or he will try to start rebooting this team again.

    • habs001 says:

He was plus one so if this was a test he passed …

No reason whatsoever for not giving Big Mac top six minutes instead of Byron or Mitchell. Plus he should be getting ample PP time, but of course the PP wouldn’t be a Therrien PP without DD on it! I’ve never seen a more pathetic PP in my life.

The fact that Therrien can keep making theae bonehead coaching decisions at the expense of developping the futre is beyond ridiculous at this point. If MB doesnt fire this coach at the end of the season, I will lose all hope and likely stop watching. Scary part os he’ll probably be back, along with his pet son DD
