Liveblog: Game 67 – Boston stomps Canadiens 4-1

For 20 minutes, it was a game

The Canadiens outshot the Bruins 13-6 in the first period, and Tuukka Rask stopped Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk on breakaways.

But a Jarred Tinordi error left Carl Soderberg wide open in front of Peter Budaj early in the second period, and the Bruins were off to the races.

Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic made it 3-0 in the seconds period, and Zdeno Chara scored early in the third period before David Desharnais's 12th, in a goalmouth scramble, cost Rask his shutout. Thomas Vanek assisted, his first point as a Canadien.

Canadiens outshot Boston 36-32.

Canadiens finally score

David Desharnais poked the puck past Tuukka Rask in a goalmouth scramble, ending a futility streak stretching back to last Thursday in Phoenix.

Thomas Vanek drew an assist – his first point as a Canadien.

Zdeno Chara had made it 4-0, driving his own rebound past Peter Budaj less than 90 seconds into the period.

Bruins blow it open

An error by Jarred Tinordi left Carl Soderberg alone in front to open the scoring.

Then Patrice Bergeron completed an odd-man rush, cashing a perfect pass by Brad Marchand.

The Canadiens had a couple decent shifts late in the period, but Milan Lucic scored a soft one on Peter Budaj with 90 seconds left.

Shots were 13-13.

Good start

The Canadiens dominated the opening period and outshot the Bruins 13-6.

Tuukka Rask stopped Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk on breakaways.

Peter Budaj's best save was on Milan Lucic.

Them again

The Canadiens' greatest rivals pay their second and last regular-season visit to the Bell Centre Wednesday night.

The Bruins, who are riding a five-game winning streak, are hot.

The Canadiens, making their first start since a 1-3 road trip, are not.

But they've won both previous games against Boston this season, 2-1 at the Bell Centre on Dec. 5 and 4-1 at the TD Garden on Jan. 30.

Max Pacioretty scored the winner in both games.

Brandon Prust returns to the Canadiens lineup, and Francis Bouillon draws in on D.

Lines and pairings from morning skate: Vanek-Plekanec-Gionta, Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher, Galchenyuk-Eller-Briere, Moen-White-Prust; Markov-Emelin, Subban-Bouillon, Murray-Tinordi

Puck drops 7:40ish.

Anyone see Chantal interviewing the Flower on Rd’s? Are her knockers getting bigger or is it all the Rum I’ve been drinking today?

  3. Et le but says:

Habs look inspired tonight…much faster than the B’s

  4. Mondou6 says:

    Why isn’t Parros playing?

  5. The Juice says:

Still not sure why Parros is scratched. In my opinion the only teams he needs to play against are the Leafs and Bruins.

    • jlgib1019 says:

Isn’t that why we got him to play 30+ games against the goon squads ?Especially with B’s looking for revenge tonight after being embarassed last time we played them

    • CJ says:

If he was healthy and effective I’d agree. In fairness, he looks slow and vulnerable. If we had Bordeleau or Gadzic, yes, you play them tonight. Parros, as much as I wanted it to work, appears to be finished. It’s too bad, but that’s the way I see it from the cheap seats.

  6. danhabsfan says:

Just getting in, how was the First period? How do the boys look?

  7. stephen says:

Happy 34th birthday to Douglas Murray!

Happy 54th birthday to his skating stride.

  8. UKRAINIANhab says:

How are we soft ? Because Emelin got hit from behind?

  9. CJ says:

Can someone link the Laraque hit on Lucic. That was sweet.

  10. CHicoHab says:

Those 2 breakaways go in and there’s no talk of being soft.

  11. Slackman says:

Question: Can someone skating tonight knock Lucic around (or at very lest hold his own against him and land a few good hooks)?

“When the going get’s weird, the weird turn pro”

  12. BobbySmithWasClutch says:

We’re such a soft team built for the regular season, not the playoffs. It’s embarrassing.

  13. The Jackal says:

Just read Habs are intimidated… Don’t think the genius who said that has been watching the game.

On another note, Beaulieu would look good on the team but it’s not worth bringing him up if he doesn’t drop the attitude.

  14. CHicoHab says:

Our power play looks like 4 on 4. Definitely needs help.

  15. The Jackal says:

    Habs looking good.
Very fun game so far, but whoever is in charge of the PP ain’t doing too well.

  16. jlgib1019 says:

Just as I said .No Parros or Weise. Habs are intimidated, and that’s putting it mildly. Playing hot potato with the puck. Pacs crunched by Sodeberg. Not worth the 2 points if someone important gets hurt.

  17. adadi says:

Beaulieu. Better then Bouillon, better than Murray, better than Emelin. Seems to me that his playing with the big boys is a no brainer, but not for the Nothing.

  18. johnnylarue says:

Interesting stat I dug up for y’all:

Habs are 0-893-2 in games during which they significantly outshot their opponents in the first period without scoring a goal.

In other words, kinda have a bad feeling about this one.

  19. sailordan1964 says:

    Manson ….

    Let’s bring back Dave Mason……..

  21. HABitat4humanity says:

    Budaj played well so far

  22. ABHabsfan says:

Patch sure can score, can’t pass worth crap though

  23. Et le but says:

A lot of late hits tonight

  24. CHicoHab says:

5 straight periods without a goal. I’m getting a little concerned. It’s probably nothing though………..

  25. SlovakHab says:

Can’t wait for Tinordi to replace Emelin in the top-4 full time.
Emelin doesn’t stand a chance against Lucic.

Looks like Lucic Komisarek’d Emelin. Not by a fight, but by that reverse hit last season. Now he’s a shell of himself, and clearly dominated by Lucic.

    • jlgib1019 says:

I was going to post the exact same thing

    • Dunboyne Mike says:

Could be so. Could also be it takes more than a year to regain full confidence in a rebuilt knee.

I detest Lucic. Tonight I would like to see him sailing arse-first into the blues. Murray? Tinordi?

      • jlgib1019 says:

Lucic has planted him twice. Dont be surprised to see him give him a beating if game gets one sided

        • Dunboyne Mike says:

          I agree.
And you know, Lucic can lay on the big hits as well as any big man in the game. I don’t begrudge him those — it’s one of the things he brings.
But it’s the late ones and dirty ones that I despise him for, and I’m waiting for someone to school him.

          • jlgib1019 says:

I’d love to see him get schooled, but even the fights hes lost,it’s been real close

  26. habsfaninboston says:

    Getting sloppy.

  27. jmac21 says:

How many times is this stupid ref going to get in the way behind the net??? Hybrid icing is the stupid as hell, can’t wait to until it cost someone a playoff game and series

  28. HABitat4humanity says:

I like eller with chucky tonight. Bring on the EGG LINE

  29. adadi says:

    Markov is not focused tonight.

  30. adadi says:

Hey Boone did you man the phones today. Would have been worth it to sit next to Mrs. Price, heh.

  31. jmac21 says:

Is Gio playing tonight?? Lol he looks slow in a good night but now with Pleks and Vanek he looks lost

Enough COY change up the PP it’s brutal to watch Danny Boy to replace DD on the the first unit I know he’s your boy Mike but your 1st unit is brutal and he’s why

  34. UKRAINIANhab says:

Vanek and Pleks look just fine.

  35. Mr_MacDougall says:

Of sides sucks.. Remove the blue line.. Unnecessary.. I’m sure guys would net hang..

  36. Marc10 says:

Vanek is going to eat the Boston D up by the third period at this rate. They won’t be able to contain him. Lots of looks by the guys here.

Great game. Rask is saving them big time. Keep at it boys!

  37. Luke says:

    C’Mon Habs! Woooo etc.

  40. duffy says:

Lots of chances, no results .

  41. habstrinifan says:

HABS PP stinks… and it is NOT the players. It is the PP scheme as designed by the coaches.

I would NOT be surprised if the PP gives up a shorty tonite.

  42. adadi says:

Would love to see Patrick go deep in the playoffs. MB should have taken a closer look. Instead we have the Nothing.

  43. Habilis says:

Gah! I hate it when we do everything but score. We deserve one this period.

  44. habsfaninboston says:

Gotta bury some of these chances.

  45. db says:

They gotta be looking for Vanek as much as possible..

  46. UKRAINIANhab says:

  49. BCG says:

A potentially random thought occurred to me on Patches’ semi-breakaway…. players may not think about slowing down but rely on a quick, fast shot? The game has emphasized speed since the New NHL ™ that it gives the players less room to make moves when coming in. The New NHL ™ has, unwittingly I think, helped this with rule changes to prevent obstruction with a focus on speed.

I have a question: when I see Jagr, and when Lemieux made his comeback, those were/are players that know how to slow it down. Besides Crosby, I’m drawing a blank on who else does this? Thornton?

  50. sailordan1964 says:

    Tr0p petit …….

  51. CHicoHab says:

Max could hear Chara breathing behind him must of been a distraction on the breakaway

  52. CJ says:

We might as well let teams change following an icing. Every team uses a time delay strategy to buy a few more seconds to let the defenders catch their breath. Either that or the refs need to start calling the clear violations.

  53. UKRAINIANhab says:

    Boychuk good Ukrainian guy!

  54. Marc10 says:

Yemmy the Tank seems to be in beast mode. I know he’s going to take aim at a Bruin tonight.

I’d stay away from Lucic though. Maybe lay into that little punk Marchand. That’d be nice.

    Gotta grab one here…

  58. jlgib1019 says:

Lucky Eller didn’t get another ozone penalty there. Whats wrong with him

  59. HABitat4humanity says:

Can Emelin please start hitting like the olden days.

  60. CharlieH24 says:

They need to unleash Galchenyuk. The kid is dynamite…

  61. habsfaninboston says:

At least 3 infractions not called there.

  62. Peter Young says:

    Great pace to this game.

  63. Maritime Ronn says:

If Max has a choice of a breakaway or penalty shot
    He should decline both

  64. HABitat4humanity says:

We need more D with a killer slap shot. We only have PK

  65. Seda Moss says:

    Nice moved, Vanek.

  66. db says:

    Max has mad speed..

  67. Et le but says:

    Well done boys…

  68. Just A Guy says:

“The swarm” almost did us in there. Nice aggressive play on Lucic by Budaj.

  69. piter says:

Looks like we have the sharp Budaj tonight.

  70. db says:

Vanek woulda scored if he had that chance :p

  71. piter says:

Prust out of breath, lost his man. It’ll take him a bit to get in game-shape.

  72. Maritime Ronn says:

    1st unit PP
ZERO net presence from 51 max vanek

  73. Peter Young says:

The CH are having trouble keeping the puck when coming out to neutral ice, but they do look like they’ve got their skates on tonight.
