Liveblog: Game 6 – Canadiens cap road trip with 3-0 win in Winnipeg

Nice plane ride

The Canadiens will spend three hours in the air reflecting on a successful road trip.

Goals by Brandon Prust and P.K. Subban in the first period stood up despite a Jets' onslaught.

And the much-maligned Daniel Brière scored an empty-netter.

Carey Price made 36 saves for his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career.

The win may have been costly: Max Pacioretty was injured on his sixth shift in the first period and did not return.

Price holds the fort

14 saves in the final 20 minutes.

Cool as a cuke.

And Carey Price racks up his 20th career shutout.

Price holds the fort

The absence of Max Pacioretty forces Michel Therrien to juggle his lines.

Winnipeg keeps its trios together and outshoots the Canadiens 13-9.

Should be a wild third period.

Max-Pac injured

An excellent start by the Canadiens produced two goals ... and it could have been more.

Brandon Prust and P.K. Subban each notched his second of the season – on passes by Daniel Brière and David Desharnais, respectively.

But with the game well in hand – the hometown Jets took seven minutes to get their first shot – Max pacioretty drove toward the Winnipeg net and was taken down awkwardly by rookie defenceman Jacob Trouba.

Pacioretty was helped off the ice favouring his left knee.

Carey Price, who could have watched a movie on his iPad through the first 10 minutes, was very sharp when the Jets came to life.

Shots were 10-8 Canadiens.

Manitoba's team?

The Canadiens seem to like playing in Winnipeg.

In completing a sweep of their season series with the Jets, the Canadiens won 4-2 at the MTS Centre last April. David Desharnais – remember him? – scored the winning goal.

On Oct. 9, 2011, the Canadiens spoiled opening night for the transplanted Atlanta franchise with a 5-1 win. As karmic revenge for sending all those hockey-loving Winnipegers home unhappy, the Canadiens lost their next six starts.

The Jets are due.

Through two seasons since their move to Winnipeg, the team is 0-5 against the Canadiens.

Captain Brian Gionta returns to the lineup Tuesday night. Daniel Brière will be on the Canadiens' fourth line, with Travis Moen and Ryan White, the only Manitoban on the Canadiens' current roster. White will play centre.

Michaël Bournival will be watching from the pressbox, as will defenceman Jarred Tinordi, scratched in place of Nathan Beaulieu.

After the morning skate, coach Michel Therrien said he likes White's work in the faceoff circle (he's winning a team-leading 68 per cent of his draws) and added he's a Manitoba boy who will have family and friends coming to the game. As for Beaulieu playing instead of Tinordi, Therrien said it's important to give both young defencemen some playing time and he liked the way Beaulieu performed last week in Edmonton.

Mathias Brunet of La Presse ranks the Canadiens Top 10 prospects.

Hi guys. Who’s Briere playing with tonight?

    • Mattyleg says:

Started the night with Moen and White, but since MacPac’s injury the lines have been mixed up.
He’s seen a lot of bench.

What are their chances when they start playing teams where the goalie will be actually be able to pick up a 10-save win?

      Anything is possible.

  3. Habbu says:

DD playing scared; told to smarten up or his next stop is the fifth line.

    prICE seeing everything.

  5. SKHab says:

Hard to recognize White without the hair.

They have to help out Carey with a little bit of O zone pressure.

Horrible… Leafs win being outshot 38-14

    • Chuck says:

Outplayed and another win? Maybe they’re this year’s team of destiny. Or it’ll catch up to them in an 82 game schedule.

      Anything is possible.

  11. shootdapuck says:

BOONE: DD has played well compared to what last game last year or in comparison to other 3.5 mill centers?

HIO Servers or Patches? Which one fixed first?

  13. topher5468 says:

I’ve been tough on DD, but he is playing well tonight for sure. This is the player we need night in, night out.

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  14. Stevie.Ray says:

He hasn’t put anything too impressive yet, but this is easily DD’s best game.

    • oldtimerguy says:

oh really? have you seen how many set ups he’s made tonight? gorgeous passes…touch passes, always hitting the right guy n the right seam…just like boucher said he does…I think DD is just getting going…he’s traditionally always been a bit of a slow starter…I think we are seeing him as he really is tonight…a good player, good instincts, great vision, good skater, winning puck battles, backchecking hard…all he needs is a little confidence and lots of idiotic hio armchair quarterbacks to stfu.

  15. Chuck says:

What’s the deal with Max? Knee? Groin?

    Anything is possible.

  16. Mattyleg says:

  24. Storman says:

HIO Server 2 minutes for Delay of Game

  25. Mavid says:

I may be going out on a limb here, but I think Kane did not like that call

DD is playing a hell of a game. Highlight reel back check.

  31. jols101 says:

Really too bad about these servers.

Good thing Patches heals quickly because he is injured an awful lot.

Gallagher missed a beauty set up. Should be 4-0 by now.

  40. NLhabsfan says:

Those nagging injuries are a pain. Some players play through it.Patches should have waited till he was fully mended.

  41. Fansincebirth says:

Anybody want to hazard a guess as to how long Patch is gone for?

  42. frontenac1 says:

Just saw the hit from behind by Max Lappiere on Boyle. Boyle goes off on a stretcher. Nasty. Hope Big Dan is ok.

  43. Habbu says:

Feel so bad for Pacioretty; one thing after another this year…..

  44. Ghosts of the Forum says:

Looks karma got the canucks one back

  45. slapshot777 says:

Habs got to keep their foot on the pedal

  46. rogus says:

Man does Pacioretty have bad luck!

  47. aHabGrowsInBrooklyn says:

The Spanish are bad, but the Italians… Grande opera!

  48. silverfox says:

It looked like ACL on right leg but when he left ice he was standing on that leg. Maybe not as bad as I first thought. Fingers crossed.

  49. danhabsfan says:

DD looked better, except for that last minute…shoot the puck!!!

  50. slapshot777 says:

How come when a Habs do something the Refs make sure they get a talking to. The Jets player goes into Carey Price and Prices pushes him out and he gets a talking to from the ref.

  51. habsfaninboston says:

Nice check by Price. DD all over the place.
    Entertaining 1st period.

  52. oldtimerguy says:

SHOOT THE BLOODY PUCK DD. Great game he’s having but he really has to learn to rifle the puck when the opportunity presents itself.

  53. LeGrosBill says:

I think eller’s embellishment was shaking his hand after getting back up, not for diving.

  54. HabinBurlington says:

So, looks like all the recent whipping boys got assists that period, DD, Bouillon, Gorges and Briere!

  55. CHicoHab says:

    Shut up Ref

  56. SKHab says:

I want a replay of Price and the check he laid on the Jet player.

  57. Mattyleg says:

Great play by DD again, just bad luck on the finish!

  59. H.Upmann says:

sh#t what’s happening with Max?? Argh I need to get to a tv

  60. Sal from the Hammer says:

    DD lots of jump!!

  61. frontenac1 says:

    Diaz just hit a guy!!!!

  62. HabinBurlington says:

Hah Price just chucked that Jet out of his crease!

  63. Mavid says:

how can you call a player for diving and yet penalize the other guy..this makes NO sense to me..if he dove then its not a penalty..

    Weed Wacker Grandma Smurf

  64. oldtimerguy says:

Tonight must suck for all the dd haters……….LOLOL

    • PrimeTime says:

Habs are winning. Haters still in the bushes hoping for a decline.

  65. The Jackal says:

    These refs are so stupid!
Penalty for interference, but then Eller for diving? BS! How about Ladd for diving earlier? Refs… they are stupid as hell.

    Hockey sine stercore tauri.

  66. SKHab says:

Do the refs get paid by the call? More calls = more money?

  67. danhabsfan says:

    This ref is horrible

  68. Sal from the Hammer says:

    Patches looked like ACL…yikes!

  69. frontenac1 says:

What’s up with the booing of PK everytime he has the puck in the Peg? They didn’t do that in the other western rinks.

  70. topher5468 says:

Moen needs to practice the saucer pass, should be 3-0

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  71. Odie24 says:

Pacioretty injured, wow what a shocker.

  72. Mondou6 says:

I’m not a doctor, but that looked a lot more like “torn ACL” than it did “pulled groin”. His leg turned sideways going down and he couldn’t put any weight on it at all afterward.

  73. shootdapuck says:

DIAZ on the PK are you kidding!

  74. oldtimerguy says:

does this website always have such poor server issues?

anyhow, dd looking freakin good huh? jols even now ikes him, LOL….how fickle can u be jols….
