Liveblog: Game 57 – Canadiens douse Flames 2-0

Markov

Price moves up the list

Carey Price made 27 saves for the 23rd shutout of his career.

This ties Price with Jose Theodore for seventh on the Canadiens all-time list.

Rene Bourque's second period goal was the winner.

David Desharnais added an empty netter.

The Canadiens had 27 shots on Reto Berra.

Turning point: four minutes and change into the second period, two Canadiens penalty-killers – Lars Eller and Tomas Plekanec – were in the box.

The Canadiens killed a two-minute 5-on-3.

Finally, a power-play goal

With Reto Berra on the bench and Mike Cammalleri in the penalty box, David Desharnais's ninth of the season sealed a 2-0 win.

Bourque!

Playing against his old team, Rene Bourque pushed a Brandon Prust pass past Reto Berra for the game's first goal.

The Canadiens killed off a full two-minute 5-on-3 with two of their penalty-killers – Tomas Plekanec and Lars Eller – in the box.

Canadiens outshot the Flames 15-14.

Scintillating entertainment

Let's got to the first-period highlight reel:

(.......)

But hey, Raphael Diaz scored in Boston.

Those were the days

The last time Calgary visited the Bell Centre, on Oct. 13, 2011, Andrei Kostitsyn opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game.

The unlamented AK46 was the only Canadiens to beat Mikka Kiprusoff that night, as Flames – despite a 36-21 shot deficit – pumped four goals past Carey Price.

Rene Bourque scored twice for the visitors.

Yes, THAT Rene Bourque – the enigmatic winger who has scored one goal on the road this season.

The Flames, who beat the Canadiens 3-2 in Calgary Oct. 9, ride a five-game winning streak into the Bell Centre.

The Canadiens are coming off a pair of weekend losses to Tampa Bay and Winnipeg.

If it wasn’t for DD’s empty netter, this would have been the 3rd consecutive game where the Habs scored just 1 goal.

Relying On Carey Price that much is just unrealistic.

  2. Et le but says:

NHL.com takes forever to update the standings
Longer for Habs than any other team? LOL

  3. TheIndian says:

How funny is that the laughs win and its the BIG news on TSN and they get killed by Florida and the news doesnt even make it to the main page on TSNl. Is it possible that TSN was embarrassed by their own team….tsk tsk tsk

    • B says:

TSN article on the Hab’s game says that “The Canadiens, meanwhile, have yet to lose in regulation this year when leading after two periods (25-0-3).” It also noted “The Habs have now killed off 27 straight penalties”.

      –Go Habs Go!–

    • BCG says:

It’s why I’m not sad to see hockey leaving TSN or CBC. Hopefully Sportsnet doesn’t make the same mistake.

  4. kalevine says:

canucks with 1 goal in last 2 games..sounds familar

  5. habs001 says:

Good chance Thursday another 1-0 or 2-1 game…The Russians are loaded on forward but they must be not that strong on D if both Markov and Emelin make it..Where would these two D be ranked if they were considered for Canada..Emelin probably not in the top 20

  6. Habcouver says:

What’s the deal with Eller and these face-off violation penalties?

    Waiting patiently for #25

  7. Sal from the Hammer says:

Sens beating Blues 4-3 after being down 3-1, and after playing the Pens last night! Thought the Blues would take care of them tonight, but, NOOOO!! At least the Laffs lost!!

  8. Et le but says:

Now 4-4…quite the barn burner in St. Louis

  9. CJ says:

The Senators just saved their season. Down 3-1, they score three goals on five shots. St. Louis goaltending is pathetic.

  10. HabFab says:

Price ties Theodore with his 23rd Shut-out for 7th spot overall.

  11. HabFab says:

Andrighetto with his 4th point as the Bulldogs tie it up 4-4.

  12. munch17jr says:

Pretty gross of Therrien to put the DD line out there with 30 seconds left and a man advantage. DD is terrible and doesn’t deserve this. Eller hustled all game and created the only goal. DD gets a useless PPG empty netter and now we have to endure 10 more games of him on our top line where we maybe win 3-4 if Price keeps playing like this. We have 6 regulation wins in our last 26 games. This team is terrible yet we never change that top line. It’s awful. DD is awful. I hate us.

  13. Reflektor says:

Sloppy game but take the 2 points and look down on the Leaf. Only sour note was Boone’s ‘Euros’ slag. Weird and unbecoming for a Gazette website. I expect that kind of cr@p at cbc.ca.

  14. DadidolizedDougHarvey says:

Do they have to have PJ Stock on Antechambre?

  15. CJ says:

Ryan White showed no signs of rust. If anything, that was one of his best games this season. The fourth line was very effective tonight.

  16. Psycho29 says:

Great win, solid game by Weise…

And to those true “Canadiens fans” who were looking forward to “Cammy” scored a couple against the Habs tonight….At least you got to see him take a stupid, selfish penalty at the end of the game.

  17. JUST ME says:

4 goals in 3 games gets us 3 points in the standings. That`s making the most out of not much !
Typical Hartley style of play for the Flames.
    Good game by Carey.

  18. thehockeynews says:

    Jumped past the Leafs

  19. DipsyDoodler says:

    I missed the game.

Can someone please summarize the relevant points in the form of a Haiku?

  20. Mattyleg says:

I used to watch the games at a pretty horrible watering-hole called PrimeTime on Parc just above St. Joseph, and Pierre Boivin’s brother used to drink there.

He was so annoying. He’d get drunk and start yelling all kinds of irritating things during the game, including “It’s gonna be a shooot!” for shootout. And “It’s gonna be a shut!” for a shutout, and he’d start yelling that halfway through the third.

  21. CHicoHab says:

The 2 pts are real. That’s what counts

  22. Cal says:

Gutsy. All of ‘em. Sweet shutout.
Murray is a beast. He’s so horrible he played down 2 men on one leg. He sucks all right.
Nice to see Bourque have one bounce in off his leg after so many posts and close calls.

  23. B says:

Thomas ties it at 4-4 with his 6th, a PP goal. About 9 minutes left in the 3rd now.

    –Go Habs Go!–

  24. D Mex says:

No game star for Bourque – scored the only real goal of the game …

    ALWAYS Habs -

  25. HardHabits says:

Don’t tell me you people believe that shout-out jinx nonsense. Seriously.

  26. Samovich says:

That P.K pass better than anything Manning mustered last Sunday!

  27. danhabsfan says:

I saw the last half of the game… It wasn’t a barn burner, by glad for the points.

  28. C-Sword says:

    No star for Bourque, damn…

  29. CHicoHab says:

2 W’s in the line up tonite brings us a W

Weise era is off to a winning start. Diaz might score, but Weise wins!

  31. Mattyleg says:

    Great first game by Weise.

    Whitey with 3rd star!!

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  32. habsfaninboston says:

    Nice! Another SO for Price.

  33. HardHabits says:

If Price can pitch no hitters for the rest of the season the Habs might just win a few games.

  34. piter says:

    White 3rd star?

  35. B says:

Ok folks, NOW it’s cool to mention the shut out. Please don’t do it during the game anymore.

  36. Trackpants says:

    I win is a win… waaaaaah… I mean waaaaah

  41. DadidolizedDougHarvey says:

    Hate that fracking goal horn.

  42. Texus says:

1-0 with Weise in the lineup!

  43. Lagerhab says:

    And Leafs lose

  44. Jimmy9Toes says:

Habs win, Sens and Laffs lose and TB losing. Great trade and good win and a Shutout to boot.

  47. CHicoHab says:

    That was all PK

  48. HabinBurlington says:

4 days from now someone will rattle off stats and that goal by DD will be considered proof of his greatness……

  49. RockinRey says:

Held on for dear life! LOOK forward to ALN tomorrow Boone!!!!

  50. CJ says:

This is the kind of grinding, low scoring game we typically see in the playoffs. Unfortunately we are playing a team destined for the draft lottery and not the Stanley Cup quarter finals.

Leafs losing, Sens losing, Lightning losing, Canes lost….

  51. habsfaninboston says:

    Finally some finish.

  52. Et le but says:

There’s our PP goal! First at home since Dec. 17

  53. Marc10 says:

    pretty minor hook it seemed

  58. RockinRey says:

NO shid….. About time habs caught a break!

  59. HabinBurlington says:

    Nice penalty squid!

  60. B says:

Pateryn with his 8th, Macenauer with his 5th. Dogs now trailing 4-3 in the 3rd.

  61. DadidolizedDougHarvey says:

    They caught their breath

  62. showey47 says:

Vintage carbo coaching with the continual icing.

  63. SKHab says:

    That was weird by Markov.

  64. danhabsfan says:

    Why did RDS do that?

  65. HabinBurlington says:

Why is RDS showing that stat!!!!!

  66. RockinRey says:

Love it. Shut up leaf lovers

  67. bender69 says:

ok I am leaving this ,,, must be a cult —- nobody answers and everyone responds !!

  68. durocher says:

    Put Weise on!

  69. BCG says:

Definitely sloppy play by CH – and also some good play by Calgary.

  70. Just A Guy says:

Awesome play by Subban there getting his stick infront of that last shot.

  71. kalevine says:

why do other teams find creative ways to exit the puck and Habs just shoot it up the boards where it becomes a point pass 3/4 of the time. Soooo frustrating

  72. Habbu says:

    Playing for the tie?
