Liveblog: Game 46 – Markov wins classic game in OT 2-1

MarkovChi

Superb hockey

That was the best 62 minutes of hockey the Bell Centre has seen this season.

Andrei Markov won it in Overtime after some spectacular goaltending at both ends by Carey Price, who made 19 saves, and homeboy Corey Crawford, who faced 37 shots by the Canadiens.

Markov's second-period goal opened the scoring.

The Hawks tied it up in the third on Marian Hossa's 16th of the season, off great passes by Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews.

Markov bags second

And wins it!

Hawks tie it up

Three of the best players in the league combined on a sweet passing play to tie the game:

Patrick Sharp to Jonathan Toews over to Marian Hossa.

Bingo.

Canadiens out shot the visitors 34-20 over three periods

Fourth line does it

George Parros parked himself in Corey Crawford's face and Andrei Markov scored from a few feet inside the blueline.

It  was the first CH goal Parros has been on for this season.

The visitors were held to eight shots through the game's first 30 minutes.

And when the Chicago power play finally got a chance, late in the period, the PK was brilliant.

Shots in the period were 11-9 Canadiens.

Game of the Season, so far.

Great hockey

Best first period at the Bell Centre in a while.

Skating, slick passing, scoring chances ... it had it all.

But no scoring.

The Canadiens looked dangerous on their two power plays.

Shots were 11-6 for the home side.

Cup-holders in town

For the first time in almost three years, the Chicago Blackhawks pay a visit to the Bell Centre on Saturday night.

On April 5, 2011, Carey Price made 42 saves – including 19 in he second period – and P.K. Subban beat Corey Crawford in Overtime for a 2-1 Canadiens win.

Price will start Saturday night, and let's hope his recently-tweaked groin is not subjected to another 40-plus shot bombardment.

But don't bet against it.

Your Montreal Canadiens have a mixed record against Western Conference powerhouses this season.

In October, they beat Anaheim 4-1 at the Bell Centre and lost 2-0 to visiting San Jose two days later.

After losing on the road to Minnesota and Colorado, the Canadiens  came home to face St. Louis and took the mighty Blues to a Shootout before succumbing 3-2.

L.A. beat the Canadiens 6-0 on Dec. 10 and they were 5-1 losers in St. Louis on the 19th.

The reigning Stanley Cup champions ride a two-game losing streak into Montreal, where the Hawks will face a couple alumni.

Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin and goaltender coach Stéphane Waite will be facing their former employer Saturday night.

Former Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier is a scout for Chicago. And the Hawks front office is run by Stan Bowman, son of the legendary Scotty.

George Parros returns to the Canadiens lineup. Francis Bouillon is a healthy scratch.

You would think we are watching the Chicago Maple Leafs how they are calling it.. wow, gotta love CBC. I hate the Rogers deal, but its all worth it to see this pathetic broadcast crushed, oh wait, its Sportsnet, i just had nightmares of Kyprebad commentating on a Canadiens game

Good period. Better than I expected. Emelen and Murray looked good. Most of the forwards have some jump. Although there is no score, habs won the period.

And so it continues…the PP that couldn’t score. When you suck 5-on-5 and your PP blows, what’s left? Score shorthanded or pitch a shut out and hope to win in the SO?

  36. Cdnman1 says:

The team has some jump tonight.

  37. Grimmly says:

CBC with the man crush on Chicago

  38. Da Hema says:

Why is it that Cole and Galley think every penalty called against Chicago is either dubious or was called because of the “crowd.” Tripping is tripping. What a pair of bozos.

  39. danhabsfan says:

    Oh Gio!

  40. CHicoHab says:

You’d think by game 46 we’d have some kind of pp

  41. B says:

Pateryn puts the Dogs up 1-0 and Vail scores his 22nd to put Windsor up 1-0.

    –Go Habs Go!–

  42. Davey93 says:

Why don’t they try plecs at the point to feed Diaz in the pp. it can’t be worse than bouillon or gorges

  43. Rob Maguire says:

No wonder MT kept PK and Markov on for 3 minutes straight. Without them, the PP is worse than terrible.

  44. CHicoHab says:

From where dd stands on the pp he’s got no hard shot.

  45. Cdnman1 says:

They have done there homework, covering the point. We need to work them down low.

  46. habcertain says:

Markova slashed Toews after the play, nail him to the bench

  47. port elgin says:

Giveaway by PK, Olympic committee reconsidering.

  48. The Jackal says:

Funny how the Hawks are so good but their PK seems so passive.
Not much pressure despite having the players to do so.
Hopefully we can capitalize on that and get our PP going.

Interference by Chicago let go twice!

  64. Da Hema says:

Is Chicago the “Big, Bad Blackhawks?” Why in hell is Parros dressed at all? Another Therrien headscratcher….

  68. Da Hema says:

Mike Boone — just so you know, I didn’t intend to disrespect you, Stubbs and Cowan on the previous thread on Subban! I think yer the best!

  69. Arrow77 says:

This is going to be ugly. Normally, we would roll 4 lines and hope the forecheck is good enough to keep the game close. We would hope that Price would rob a few goals and that one of our lines gets opportunistic.

But this won’t happen tonight. The Hawks have depth and MT’s genius move to dress Parros means we’ll play with 3 lines for most of the game. Also, dressing Murray usually means a lot of times in our zone.

  70. Sportfan says:

I’ll watch this after the Saints-Seahawks game cause this is NUTS

I just watched the highlights of the last Chicago game here. MTL had more odd man rushes in that game then this team has had in a month.

  72. habcertain says:

    @ JBF…..I read evolution is a crock…. Believe it

  73. Et le but says:

Moen playing his best hockey in a long time…

  74. CJ says:

Probably sounds silly, but I always have had an appreciation and respect for those players who give the kids a tap with the stick, or a fist bump with the glove. I get tradition, ritual, superstition, etc., and understand why some don’t, it’s just something I notice when they go off and on the ice. Making that connection with a little boy or girl can have a lasting impression.

Go Habs! Let’s get a win boys!
