Liveblog: Game 30 – First place, baby!

Playing their third game in four nights against a well-rested Boston tea, the Canadiens gutted out a 2-1 win.

After falling behind on Gregory Camopbell's goal – scored during a first period dominated by the visitors – the Canadiens bounced back.

They outshot the Bruins 17-7 in the middle period and got goals from Tomas Plekanec (his 10th) and Max Pacioretty (11th)

Then it was the Carey Price Show.

With his teammates being beaten on nearly every shift, Price made 16 saves in the last 10 minutes to salt the game away.

The win moved the Canadiens past Boston into first place in the Atlantic Division – but the Bruins have two games in hand.

Price .. again

16 third-period saves protecting a one-goal lead.

He's the best.

Strike back

Which team played last night?

And which has had four days of rest?

The Canadiens outshot Boston 17-7, skated them into the Bell Centre ice and got goals from Tomas Plekanec (his 10th) and Max Pacioretty (11th) to take the lead.

Third period should be fun.

A sombre start

A lot of energy drained out of the game when Boston defenceman Johnny Boychuk was taken into the boards by Max Pacioretty and suffered an injury that required extended medical attention and departure on a stretcher.

The Bruins outshot the Canadiens by an embarrassing margin of 10-3 and got the period's only goal when Milan Lucic split P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov and fed Gregory Campbell for the fourth-liner's second of the season.

The Canadiens' two power plays were worse than Coeur de Pirate's two national anthems.

We don't like the Leafs.

But the Montreal-Toronto "rivalry" has more to do with politics, economics and those anal orifice Leaf-blowers at Hockey Night in Canada than with anything that actually transpires on the ice.

How can you hate a team that hasn't won squat in 47 years? Have mercy on them, peeps, for they know not decent hockey.

With Boston, the bad blood is genuine ... and not infrequently spilled on the playing surface.

Ask your grandfather about Maurice Richard and Hal Laycoe.

Ask your father about Pierre Bouchard and Stan Jonathan.

More recent iterations: Milan Lucic destroying Mike Komisarek, Gregory Campbell using a loose elbow pad to carve up Tom Pyatt, Zdeno Chara running Max Pacioretty into a Bell Centre stanchion.

This ain't Carolina or Florida at the Bell Centre Thursday night.

Stuff is REAL.

Puck drops 7:40ish.

  7. Bill says:

You just know that losing this one really bugs the B’s! An exhausted Canadiwns team, and they still couldn’t goon them.

We’ve got a special group here if they can stay healthy.

  8. JUST ME says:

3 games in 4 days for anybody is huge. 6 more points in the standings in 4 days is fantastic.
I know it does not mean anything but Gallagher deserved a star tonight. He was everywhere. For me his best game with the Habs so far.

  13. Mats Naslund says:

Kudos to the team for battling through the 3rd period. They’ve played a lot of hockey lately and the Bruins were well rested (except for having to play with 5 D). It wasn’t always pretty – but a win is a win and for now at least they can enjoy life at the top.

  14. Arrow77 says:

Another game where Price doesn’t allow more than two goals. And another game where it’s not because the team in front of him was that great. Might be the best goalie of the league at this moment.

  15. Storman says:

Even though The bruins were the better team Carey did not have to be extra spectacular, we kept a lot of the bruins chances to the outside, no clear looks, one speed and skill goal set up by of all people Milan LooseChick and that was it,, great gutsy game on an empty gas tank..

  16. Curtoph says:

    whatttta game!

  17. SportsFan31 says:

  18. Et le but says:

The last 10 second scrum behind their net a fitting end to a game won on guts and pride!

  19. twilighthours says:

Gutsy effort. I really liked that 3rd period. They kept the bruins to mostly harmless shots.

  20. D Mex says:
