Liveblog: Game 22: Canadiens stomp Wild 6-2

Happy birthday, Max

Max Pacioretty turns 25 on Wednesday.

Max-Pac got the party going early with a natural hat trick in the second period against the Wild, driving heretofore hot goaltender Josh Harding from the Minnesota net.

In setting a season high for scoring, the Canadiens also got goals from Michaël Bournival, Daniel Brière and Alex Galchenyuk.

Nino Niederreiter spoiled Carey Price's bid for a shutout five minutes into the third period and Dany Heatley added a popwer-play goal with a second left on he clock.

Canadiens outshot the visitors 28-27.

Four more goals

A lively third period, considering the game was over after 40 minutes.

Daniel Brière one-timed a Brian Gionta pass to make it 5-0.

Then after Nino Niederrreiter spoiled Carey Price's shutout bid, Alex galchenyuk converted a perfect Andrei Markov pass on a Canadiens power play.

Dany Heatley scored on a Wild PP with a second left on the clock.

Max-Pac comes alive

Hey, his 25th birthday isn't until tomorrow.

Max Pacioretty, who had two goals this season, scored a natural hat trick in less than 11 minutes, the last one – on a power-play – driving Josh Harding from the Minnesota net.

Michaël Bournival's sixth of the season was scored on Darcy Kuemper.

The Canadiens' four goals in 13:19 exceeded their output in the previous three games.

New line looks good

Brendan Gallagher has energized DD and Max-Pac, producing the nearest thing to a goal we saw in the first 20 minutes.

A video review ruled Josh Harding's glove kept the puck from crossing the line on a close-in try by Pacioretty.

Canadiens outshot the Wild 9-7.

The period included a pointless fight between Brandon Prust and Zenon Konopka.

Therrien shuffles the deck

New forward lines will face the Minnesota Wild at the Bell Centre Tuesday night.

Also a new defence pairing.

Your Montreal Canadiens have won two of their last eight games, and coach Michel Therrien is trying to resuscitate an anemic offence.

Brendan Gallagher brings his energy to RW on a line with slump-mired veterans David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty.

Brandon Prust takes Gallagher's spot with Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk. The PEG line?

Rene Bourque was supposed to join Brian Gionta and Tomas Plekanec, but word at the rink has Bourque out and Daniel Brière filling that spot. Ryan white draws into the fourth line with  Michaël Bournival and Travis Moen.

Alexei Emelin partners Josh Gorges on defence. Raphael Diaz drops down to the third pairing with Francis Bouillon.

Will the moves work?

Or is a desperate coach rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?

I still say that Therrien is a complete idiot, and should have left the lines the way they were.

4th line out on the PP.

  26. The_Truth says:

Classy move by MT putting the 4th line out for the PP, instead of trying to pad DD and Max’s stats.

    • Habilis says:

Yeah, I know the guys were gassed but that was crappy. You could tell he knew it by the way he looked away from the Minny bench the entire time. I thought he and Yeo were buds?

  34. Habitant in Surrey says:

…I believe the North Stars (?) are third best defensive team in league, Harding one of best goaltenders

…Our Habs should be going home feeling good about Themselves tonight

  36. HabFab says:

Bulldogs win 5-1. MacAulay first star with goal and an assist in his first AHL game. Nystrom scored his first AHL goal also. Thomas got his first point of the season.

  37. jols101 says:

Did Gallagher ever get a helper on Patches 3rd goal? It sure looked like he deflected it.

  38. Storman says:

That hit Emelin just applied is what the team misses so much,, that takes a toll on opposition, and they are not such in a hurry to forecheck at will

  39. Mick says:

    DD, Briere or Bournival.
One of them has to ???
    !. sent to the Dogs
    2. trade one of them?

MT is correct not to put PK on the PK!

  61. smiler2729 says:

What if… Carey Price were the one traded to St. Louis in 2010, would the Habs be any better right now riding Halak?
Or would the Blues be Cup champs already?

What if… Patrick Roy hadn’t had a hissy fit in ’95? Would the Habs have won a couple of more Cups before he hung ’em up in ’03?

What if… Scotty Bowman were given the GM duties in ’79 instead of Grundman? Would the dynasty have continued with Denis Savard as their newest superstar?

What if… I never posted this.

Good on em, hoping Pacioretty can get a 4th one with what time is left.

  63. jols101 says:
