Liveblog: Game 17 – Losing streak hits four as Canadiens bow 4-1 to Senators

PKSenators

Four unanswered

Goaltender Robin Lehner made 33 saves and his Ottawa teammates made the most of their opportunities.

Andrei Markov scored the first goal of the game during a first-period play.

But Bobby Ryan tied it at 1-1 28 seconds later, and Ottawa took control with two goals in 37 second-period seconds. Defencemen Mark Methot and Mark Borowiecki took advantage of confusion in the defensive zone and screens in front of Carey Price.

Kyle Turris added an empty-netter.

robin Lehner made 33 saves, 25 over the final 40 minutes.

The Senators had 23 shots on Carey Price.

Senators hold the fort

Ottawa maintained its lead, and Kyle Turris added an empty-netter.

Robin Lehner's excellence snuffed any hope of a CH comeback.

Two quick ones

Ottawa defencemen scored twice in 37 seconds to give the Senbators the lead.

Andrei Markov cleared a rebound directly to Mark Methot, who blasted it past Carey Price.

Then Mark Borowiecki scored the first of his NHL career, and the Canadiens were shellshocked.

Robin Lehner made 14 saves in the second period.

Price was beaten twice on six shots.

Short-lived celebration

Twenty-eight seconds.

Barely enough time to crack a beer.

That's how long the Canadiens' lead lasted.

After Andrei Markov blasted one past Robin Lehner on a beautifully executed power play, Bobby Ryan used a Kyle Turris screen to fire one past Carey Price.

Canadiens outshot the Senators 9-7.

Rivalry resumes

They played back-to-back exhibition games in September, but the Thursday evening dance at Canadian Tire Place is the first REAL hockey game between the Canadiens and Senators since the Eastern Conference quarter-final series last spring.

And we all remember how that ended: the Senators celebrating a five-game series win after dealing the home team a 6-1 pasting at the Bell Centre.

There have been some changes since that bitterly-fought series, which included the Eric Gryba head shot that knocked Lars Eller out of the playoffs in Game 1 and a line brawl in Game 3.

Daniel F. Alfredsson is no longer a Senator. George Parros is a Canadien.

The rivalry is not as intense as Montreal-Boston or the Battle of Ontario. But the Canadiens and Senators could find themselves in a tight, season-long battle for an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Michel Therrien has shuffled his forward lines again: Mac Pacioretty joins Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta, Lars Eller is reunited with Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk, David Desharnais returns to the lineup between Michaëel Bournival and Rene Bourque, Travis Moen is back and will play with Ryan White and George Parros.

What to do now? Team has hit a new low this year.

Gally is a warrior… how come teams can tear him apart when he is in front of the net and our D just stand there with their forwards giving them love taps. Time start playing tougher and dirtier in front of our net.

Not a happy camper with this team…MT can’t be blamed for all of this mess.

    • Ring of Fire says:

For sure…see George’s turn up ice when Gally n Chucky were both both engaged in altercations….least Pk joined the fray

I would agree,he’s playing like the Shuttsian of old

  2. Ring of Fire says:

I miss Chelios,Skrudland,McPhee Ludwig, etc……this team needs to grow a set….not even a finger on Gryba tonight…C’mon…don’t need another 65 games to c how this books going to end.

I would agree,he’s playing like the Shuttsian of old

  3. piper says:

Goalies around the league must love to see the Habs come to town. It’s great for the save %. If it wasn’t for Gallagher it would be like a night off.

  4. habs001 says:

In the playoffs this lineup would score 1 to 2 goals per game…

  5. Danno says:

This team is forcing me to chose between falling into a drunken stupor or getting very, very inebriated.

    the coach owns that

  7. Donkey Hoat says:

On the plus side, Brière will be back in the line-up soon.

    Where’s that sarcasm emoticon…?

  8. SmartDog says:

If Therrien really believed his “no excuses” BS, he would apologize for his stupid mistakes.
Or just fall on his own own sword and quite.

    ————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

  9. punkster says:

Any line up that includes Parros and Murray excludes two NHL level players on their roster.

    Still SUBBANGIN’ BABY…
    but…
    ELLER IS STELLAR!!!

  10. Et le but says:

Not icing the best available line-up and also mis-managing the group you select to play falls on the coaching staff. Time for MB to step up and clean up the bad vibe or make changes. We all know when we see a team coming apart and that’s what it looks like here…

    • Bogie Man says:

The issue the talent we do have is mismanaged but not even the best coach in the NHL can make this group of players good enough to win more than .5 of the time.

  11. JM says:

We sign Briere and DD Ottawa signs Bobby Ryan do I need to say more …

  12. Alvin says:

Yeah, you are all correct…Habs suck

  13. Bogie Man says:

That was an ugly game. Could not generate any offense whatsoever. It seems we are relying on the young guns to score the rest of the forwards are on vacation. How many more L’s do we have to endure before MB makes a change. I do not know how we do it but DD has got to go. The 4th line had barely a pulse. Gionta, Pleks and Bourque are no longer effective.

  14. le but says:

Another loss… This team really sucks, can’t score, crap defence. Definatly not a play off team. I don’t think Therrien cuts it as a coach.

  15. habsfan0 says:

Who will gang on l’Antichambre blame tonight?
    PK?
    Patches?
    Price?
    Rob Ford?

  16. HabinBurlington says:

So Lehner says he will get back at Gallagher…..

  17. Habcouver says:

Hab shooters made Leiner look good all night.
Gally was the only out there working his tail off.

MT looked despondent all night. MB has to be concerned.

    Waiting patiently for #25

  18. Danno says:

Yes it’s early, but the way things are going playoffs seem doubtful.

Just about the worst game yet.

  20. adadi says:

Therrien gone by Xmas so MB CAN save his ass.

  21. John Q Public says:

    No need to tank.

  22. Harditya says:

Bouillon: -8 over 17 games. Projected to be -39 over a full season.
Therrien please stop overplaying him. No clue why he’s on the powerplay when he has 2 points in 17 games. Why not just use a fourth forward.

  23. CHicoHab says:

We can’t score. We can’t defend. We can’t stay out of the box. We are not too good right now. Can’t get any worse can it??

  24. showey47 says:

Goalie pulled and bouillon is on the ice? Worst part is he is the one who gets stripped and results in the goal. Its not his fault, MT has no business putting him out there

  25. habfan100 says:

Tomorrow Michael Therrien will still have a job.

  26. Peter Young says:

What’s so dispiriting is that Ottawa did not play well.

  27. habfan100 says:

    Desharnais looked good…….

  28. Habbu says:

Cheering for the Blue Bombers I thought my troubles were over……..apparently not

  29. otisfxu says:

0-5 with Parros in lineup,,,,,,,and counting

  30. crabvader says:

    Players have no confidence.

MT needs to get his head out of his ass and start leading.

  31. habsfan0 says:

I believe it’s time for MT to take the team bowling.

  32. Marc10 says:

I’m starting to think it’s not so much our D that is our Achilles Heel, but our inability to score.

  33. showey47 says:

Goalie pulled and bouillon is on the ice? Worst part is he is the one who gets stripped and results in the goal. Its not his fault, MT has no business putting him out there.

  34. twilighthours says:

Somewhat unjust. Montreal was the better team tonight. Three mistakes (gorges, markov, therrien/4th line) and that’s the hockey game

  35. CalgaryHab says:

MT + head = MT Head

  36. habfan100 says:

So much deadwood and floaters on this team. 4 Losses in a row…waiting for Therrien to blow up and blame everyone but himself.

  37. The Dude says:

Hey, we played an N.H.L. team and kept it kinda close…

  38. TheMostCupsPeriod says:

    MT is garbage

  39. danhabsfan says:

Horrible effort, except for a very few Habs (Gally, PK, Markov,)

  40. L Elle says:

Since the Ducks’ game, every game has been a copy/paste of the same old. Excruciating to watch.

  41. otisfxu says:

what is Bouillion doing on the ice with goalie being pulled????

  42. Peter Young says:

    MT master tactician

  43. Habbu says:

OK put Parros out to spit on their logo

  44. HabinBurlington says:

    Entire team looked disenchanted tonight.

  45. topher5468 says:

Why is Boullion even out there? Jeez

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  46. Harditya says:

Habs deserve that. Therrien deserves that for having Francis Bouillon out there in final seconds.

  47. Sal from the Hammer says:

    Good FKN nite all

  48. Mondou6 says:

lol…so typical. Price barely gets to the bench and it’s an empty netter.

  49. AH says:

And Bouillion with the rush!!! LOL! What a mess!!

  50. CHicoHab says:

Of course not Parros fault thank you.

  51. RAM_TOUGH says:

    WTF would MT pull Carey?

    Guts-Glory-Ram

  52. Sal from the Hammer says:

    Galleys a BEAST!

  53. db says:

They should play music like in basketball games…

  54. slapshot777 says:

That sound is the Habs truck backing up to get the Habs gear because they ain’t using it.

  55. Habbu says:

    MT pull the fire alarm?

  56. RAM_TOUGH says:

“Lehner has been excellent. man of the Match”. If Montreal could put the puck in the net from all their chances get Lehner would be on the bench now!

    Guts-Glory-Ram

  57. RockinRey says:

I am open to reasonable suggestions on how to improve this team and will forward these to MB in the morning.

Till then adios. Look forward to ALN Boone.

  58. habfan100 says:

One more loss and I think we see the Michel Meltdown Therrien Press Conference.

The life has been completely sucked out of this team. Gallagher and Price standing out.

This game could easily be 5-1.

  59. HabinBurlington says:

So our PK has looked real good, yet everyone has their knickers in a knot cuz PK isn’t playing on it.

Yes I completely understand the hysteria………

  60. CalgaryHab says:

Once Briere is back – watch out!!

  61. Strummer says:

    Habs are 0 for Parros ( O-fer-Parros

Are we the most boring team in the league? Every game is just a chore to sit through.

  63. topher5468 says:

If only Markov could beat Lehner,

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

      • slapshot777 says:

Between MT and the Media, who has to take some of the blame here, because they didn’t let it quit they kept fuelling something to keep it up rather than let it go. They are too stupid to even realize that they do more harm to their team than help them. They have this They know everything and they know sweet f**k all

    • slapshot777 says:

In order to score there you have to lift the puck here we have a goalie falling down and you slide it along the ice where is will most certainly hit him and stay out

  64. Et le but says:

Is it just me or are we really good at making opposing goalies look like Vézina?

    • db says:

Nope… we have few NHL scorers. The EGG line will get there, Markov and PK… Bourque has the shot but cant create his own chances, max misses the net, Pleks is legit but seems out of it. .

  65. HabinBurlington says:

    Hmmm, PK isn’t perfect.

  66. AH says:

Great save! shot right at him..CBC knobs!

  67. CHicoHab says:

Nice shot right at Lehners colyonis Markov.

  68. danhabsfan says:

It’s going to be a long time to see a 25th banner…. Oh my.

  69. The Dude says:

Fking Lehner plays a clutch game..

  70. crabvader says:

The only thing this idiot coach is doing to Subban by benching him during the PK (heh) is stripping away at his confidence.

  71. Sal from the Hammer says:

Most other team buries that….BUT NOOOOOOO!!

  72. SmartDog says:

Two things STILL wrong with the Habs:
    1. Too small
    2. Need shooting practice

  73. NLhabsfan says:

Well one more loss the natives are going to be looking for blood.I see a trade happening soon.

  74. slapshot777 says:

Firing MT will do what? Who is out there now that is a decent coach? No one

  75. Habbu says:

MT’s face getting more red every minute………gonna explode soon
