Liveblog: Game 13: Canadiens outshine Stars 2-1, even Bell Centre record at 4-4

Canadiens savor home cookin'

Once again, Canadiens skaters blocked more shots than their goaltender.

Carey Price made 26 saves and his teammates blocked 29 Dallas shots ... about 10 in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Sixteen Canadiens got in on the shot-blocking act.

The home team got goals from Michaël Bournival, the rookie's third, and Rene Bourque (fourth).

Cody Eakin was the only Star to beat Price.

Tense 20

two teams who played last night put on a helluva third period.

No scoring, but plenty of excitement.

Carey Price is first star again.

Teams trade goals

After Rene Bourque scored his fourth of the season, redirecting a Raphael Diaz pass, the Canadiens seemed to have things under control.

Against the flow of play, defencman Brendan Dillon hit Cody Eakin with a long pass and, using P.K. Subban as a screen, Eakin beat Carey Price stick side.

Shots were 12-9 Canadiens.

Diaz off the schneid

Raphael Diaz scored his first goal of the season, and it was a weird one.

Diaz's shot from the right point deflected off Dallas defenceman Stéphane Robidas and seemed to hit Kari Lehtonen on its way past the Stars' goaltender.

Carey Price made nine saves, the best of which came off Jamie Benn when Dallas broke 3-on-1. Fortunately, the one Canadien back was Andrei Markov, who took away Benn's passing lane.

Canadiens had the period's only power play, and it produced nothing.

Cole returns

Erik Cole plays his first game at the Bell Centre in the uniform of the Dallas Stars.

Cole is playing on a line with Stars captain Jamie Benn and former Boston phenom Tyler Seguin.

Cole assisted on goals by his linemates in Dallas's 4-3 win in Buffalo Monday night. The game marked an emotional homecoming for Dallas coach Lindy Ruff, who was behind the bench in Buffalo for 16 seasons.

With a record of 5-5-1, Dallas is last in the Western Conference's Central Division. The Stars have a minus-4 goal differential on the season and are 2-4 on the road.

The Canadiens are 7-5 and their plus-13 goal differential ties Boston's for the best in the Eastern Conference. But the team is below .500 – 3-4 – in the allegedly friendly confines of the Bell Centre.

The game will be the Canadiens' ninth against Western clubs. They are 4-4 to date.

  5. Sal from the Hammer says:

In no way is Carey playing poorly this year. Every goalie has a goal or two they would like to have back. He was solid when he needed to be. That’s what you want from your goalie. Budaj is also solid. Waite is plying his magic. Best pick up of the summer, me thinks. The team is blocking shots too. Good formula for success.

  6. krob1000 says:

Murray is physically intimidating…he is a guy who is like Chara when in a corner…no one wants to get hit by him. When this team is healthy Montreal will be every bit as hatd to play against as the other bigger teams.

    • Habs4LifeInTO says:

Loved the full stop he put on Mac Dermid (#28) tonight. Murray really is a brick wall. We haven’t had size like that in while…

      24 cups and counting….

  15. CHicoHab says:

    I mean passed him

  16. CHicoHab says:

Price may have dozed off and woke up by the swishing noise made as the puck past him on that goal.

  17. Strummer says:

Erik Cole 12:12 TOI- unless he’s hurt his stock has really dropped

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  18. Caesar says:

too bad we only won by one goal. Not good enough better trade Price and Plex for Crosby now while their value is still high

  19. Mondou6 says:

I’m totally suckered into getting excited!

We should eventually get Max and Prust back…Which, in case you forget, each of them has been in MVP discussion for our team over the past year.

And I still think that Parros will have a big impact on our team. Imagine facing the goon squad teams with a healthy Parros, Prust, and Murray…That’s some tough guys on our side for a change.

AND! I’m not a huge fan of Price’s cap hit, but he’s looked SO much better this year. No idea what has gotten into him, but he looks totally different/better.

  20. CHicoHab says:

If they’d corral the puck and wrist it we’d hit the net more often. Stopping the puck and teeing it up leads to many misses

  21. Thomas Le Fan says:

Man if this team could hit the net with some of those shots … oh well, good win.

There is no crying in baseball, “i” in team or “chuck” in Galchenyuk but … there is fighting in hockey.

  22. CHicoHab says:

  23. Peter Young says:

Man, Bournival is turning out better than anyone could reasonably have expected, although I remember a couple of people speaking his praises long ago.

  24. HabinBurlington says:

Temporarily 1st place in the Eastern Conference! Or should I say, for the present time.

  25. ooder says:

    loved Murray!
    loved Markov!
Price was pretty good..shame that one weak goal ruined his shutout but i will take the win.

    • Hopefully he’ll have better timing later on in the season when the hits mean more. Right now he can get away with these penalties, it’s Oct and he just got back so he gets some rope.

OT: PK had a rough last 8 minutes, I don’t blame Therrien for not having him out there last minute of the game.

Murray deserves an honourable mention in the three-star selection

  30. habsfor25 says:

One think I’m really happy about it goaltending. Although it is really young in the season, it has been superb. We can win those close games now.

I’m just overall happy that we’re getting as much points as possible until our line-up is fully recovered, nothing more to ask for. Extremely surprised by the heart and work that these youngsters have put in.

  31. Peter Young says:

Boone’s smell of 2-2 turned out to be nothing more than foul-smelling hot air, like any other fart.

  32. Strummer says:

Could Boone to a live blog of l’antichambre and tell us what the hell they’re saying?

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”
