Liveblog: Game 13: Canadiens outshine Stars 2-1, even Bell Centre record at 4-4

Canadiens savor home cookin'

Once again, Canadiens skaters blocked more shots than their goaltender.

Carey Price made 26 saves and his teammates blocked 29 Dallas shots ... about 10 in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Sixteen Canadiens got in on the shot-blocking act.

The home team got goals from Michaël Bournival, the rookie's third, and Rene Bourque (fourth).

Cody Eakin was the only Star to beat Price.

Tense 20

two teams who played last night put on a helluva third period.

No scoring, but plenty of excitement.

Carey Price is first star again.

Teams trade goals

After Rene Bourque scored his fourth of the season, redirecting a Raphael Diaz pass, the Canadiens seemed to have things under control.

Against the flow of play, defencman Brendan Dillon hit Cody Eakin with a long pass and, using P.K. Subban as a screen, Eakin beat Carey Price stick side.

Shots were 12-9 Canadiens.

Diaz off the schneid

Raphael Diaz scored his first goal of the season, and it was a weird one.

Diaz's shot from the right point deflected off Dallas defenceman Stéphane Robidas and seemed to hit Kari Lehtonen on its way past the Stars' goaltender.

Carey Price made nine saves, the best of which came off Jamie Benn when Dallas broke 3-on-1. Fortunately, the one Canadien back was Andrei Markov, who took away Benn's passing lane.

Canadiens had the period's only power play, and it produced nothing.

Cole returns

Erik Cole plays his first game at the Bell Centre in the uniform of the Dallas Stars.

Cole is playing on a line with Stars captain Jamie Benn and former Boston phenom Tyler Seguin.

Cole assisted on goals by his linemates in Dallas's 4-3 win in Buffalo Monday night. The game marked an emotional homecoming for Dallas coach Lindy Ruff, who was behind the bench in Buffalo for 16 seasons.

With a record of 5-5-1, Dallas is last in the Western Conference's Central Division. The Stars have a minus-4 goal differential on the season and are 2-4 on the road.

The Canadiens are 7-5 and their plus-13 goal differential ties Boston's for the best in the Eastern Conference. But the team is below .500 – 3-4 – in the allegedly friendly confines of the Bell Centre.

The game will be the Canadiens' ninth against Western clubs. They are 4-4 to date.

Anyone in this thread who thinks gionta and plecs should be traded just don’t know hockey. MT is too scared to play any other line against the benn line which is why plecs has low minutes. It’s too bad because I would like to see plecs get some shifts against the line they are matching with DD… Maybe it would be more than 2-1

  14. Et le but says:

Not the most timely or intelligent penalty Murray…BIG kill here

  15. Willy the bum says:

Come on, that wasn’t interference! Just a Stars player ran into Murray’s way…

    What was Murray doing?

  17. AH says:

Murray laying guys out, I love it!!!! Penalty or not.

  18. RockinRey says:

Too bad that wasn’t earlier in the game and they would have been watching out for that all night. A little too aggressive

  19. Propwash says:

What Murray needs to do is knock off those hits that’ll be called a penalty.

What impresses you most about this years Habs.
    1) Prices improvement
    2) Performance of defense in light of the injuries (when Emelin is back will be top 5 defense potentially).
    3) Depth at forward with key injuries (Bournival, Bourque et al).
    4) Budaj is Charlie Hodge reincarnated.

  25. Et le but says:

Habs have to stop trying to sell calls, especially those that are likely to be called anyway. It seems to be biting us in the ass; not getting calls we should

  26. habsfaninboston says:

  34. SuperHabFan says:

Why are they forcing ellers line to be the the top PP unit? They’re not there yet. Plecs line needs to be on the ice with subban and Markov.

  57. port elgin says:

Was Price dreaming of his honeymoon or what?

  58. Sal from the Hammer says:

Dreger bleeds Laffs. Carry over from his Sports Net Days. SN talk incessantly about Laffs. TSN not too far behind. They always carry at least two story’s on the Laffs pretty well every day on the TES website. CBC is all Laffs all the time.

  59. Marek says:

Are my eyes fooling me or did that puck deflect off of pk’s stick. TSN panel doesn’t seem to think so.

  60. mrbell04 says:

Dreger and the tsn goofballs would be praising reimer for allowing only one goal and vouch for his place on team Canada. Price who has been spectacular as of late, one fluttering puck and his chance at Sochi is now in jeopardy. Give me a break!

  61. RAM_TOUGH says:

It’s crucify Price time now I guess.

    Guts-Glory-Ram

  62. The Jackal says:

My god, one “bad” (NOT EVEN) goal and people are already calling out Price.

  64. Am I the only one to think it’s hard to stop fluttering pucks. I mean we hockey players have seen it a million times, am I wrong here? They’re like trying to stop back handers or for you baseball fans trying to hit the knuckleball, but please continue
