Liveblog: Game 11: San Jose dominant in 2-0 win

First shutout of the season

Antti Niemei had an easy night.

The Canadiens managed only 22 shots, few of which troubled the Sharks' goaltender.

Carey Price made 33 saves but was beaten twice by Logan Couture.

Actually, beaten once.

The Sharks' young centre tipped one past Price on a power play, then notched his second on a weird bounce off a stanchion, with Price behind the Canadiens net and out of the play.

The better team won, peeps.

Couture again

Logan Coputure got his second of the game on a weird play.

Patrick Marleau shot a puck in along the dasher. Carey Price went behind his net to play it, but the puck hit a stanchion and bounced into the slot, where Couture had a gimme.

Sharks get on the board

On San Jose's thiurd power play of the game, Logan Couture tipped a Joe Thornton pass by Carey Price.

The Canadiens came to life late in the period. They got excellent shifts from the Tomas Plekanec and David Desharnais lines. The flurry finally drew a San Jose penalty late in the period.

Shots were 11-7 for the visitors, 22-15 on the game.

Andrei Markov has FOUR giveaways.

Scoreless 20 mins

San Jose had an 11-8 shot advantage – SOP for them.

The Canadiens killed two penalties.

Good hockey. Up and down the ice.

Toughest yet

Cue that ominous theme music from Jaws.

San Jose brings the NHL's best record to the Bell Centre Saturday night. The Sharks are the most dangerous visitors we've seen since the Leafs opened the season in Montreal.

San Jose is 3-1-1 on the road, 8-1-1 in their last 10. After 10 games, the Sharks's goal differential is an eye-popping plus-23.

The visitors are coming off a game in Boston where they outshot the Bruins 37-19 only to lose on David Krejci's last-second goal. It was San Jose's first setback in regulation time of the young season.

The visitors are a bit banged-up. The Sharks will be without Dan Boyle, Brent Burns, Martin Havlat, Adam Burish, Raffi Torres and possibly Tommy Wingels.

The goaltending duel features two Stéphane Waite pupils: Carey Price and Antti Niemi, whom Waite coached in Chicago.

Puck drops 7:10ish.

  8. AH says:

SJ must think they’re in a practice scrimmage.

  9. danhabsfan says:

Can’t believe all you cry babies who blame Price for that. The team in front of him is a lot worse. He didn’t se where the puck went. Habs not up to this Caliber of play u yet

  10. slapshot777 says:

The Habs seems to have given up. Still lots of time left

  11. oldtimerguy says:

Desharnais 5th in the league in faceoff’s won percentages…not bad huh? 🙂 for all you corsi stats idiots, that’s a lot of positive o zone starts and d zone protective starts…

aside from that, I LOVE that we re losing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I want a top 5!

  12. Phil Dude says:

    I think i’ve seen enough..

  13. BCG says:

Price is a good goalie and maybe a great goalie like Dryden – time will tell.

But what both miss is the killer instinct that lets them to try for the sake of trying. The difference from a Hasek or a Thomas that never gives up. Roy and especially Brodeaur was a combination of both. Price… like Dryden… can make a decision and then just stops trying.

I think he needs a bit of “belly fire” and the ability to just keep trying.

  14. durocher says:

Habs seem intimidated, they aren’t skating, are on the outside

  15. Hobie Hansen says:

Joe Thornton is a UFA this summer!

  16. HabCez says:

    “Cool” Carey strikes again…
Sorry man.. I saw no hustle on his part.
I wouldn’t have blamed him if he hustled.

    “Emelin’s the real deal.”

  17. Mondou6 says:

This would have been good game, except it was ruined by the refs.

SJ probably wins anyway, but they sure as hell didn’t need all the extra help they got from the officials.

  18. Hobie Hansen says:

I’d imagine Front and Burly are hitting the booze pretty hard right about now.

  19. Storman says:

    OOOps I crapped my pants

  20. Habbu says:

Niemi has to sound asleep by now……

  21. twilighthours says:

This game sucks. Feel sorry for the summiteers

  22. Phil Dude says:

well i think its safe for me to hit the bar early

  23. danhabsfan says:

Well, this was a measuring stick, and the boys are a tad short. Now you know what you have to fix. There has been no push back in this game. Really, it’s too bad. So sad that the Leafs are better right now. Speed is suppose to be our trademark, but there isn’t any tonight.

  24. Danno says:

Bad bounces and bad calls will beat you 9 times out of ten

  42. RAM_TOUGH says:

Well Mr. Boone, they are not that great tonight, it took them 3 PP’s to score!

  43. Storman says:

    3.14 scoring chances so far

  44. RAM_TOUGH says:

That puck was NOT behind Price

  45. slyCH says:

    Do it for the summiteers!

  50. thorandresson says:

I have to say, looking back Gauthier made a lot of really good hockey moves, he got Bournival for O’Byrne (a steal), Eller for Halak (another steal), Holland, Bourque and Fucale for Cammalleri (slight edge for the habs), drafted Tinordi, Beaulieu and Gallagher…

  51. Propwash says:

Danno, I think it’s your time to shine…

  52. Et le but says:

Might thibe described as a measuring stick period?

  53. The Dude says:

    Dam you Larry Robinson,ouch!

  54. SKHab says:

  55. Phil Dude says:

good for Leblanc, about damn time

I had a dream last night , Habs win this one 2-1, with Boone going top shelf for the winner with seconds left in the game..

  59. Harditya says:

Louis Leblanc with another goal tonight, that makes it 4 for the season. 6 points in 7 games, he’s picked it up big time!

  60. MICP says:

Not only have our boys kept the game close but the sj shot amount is a lot less than what I thought it would be.
A few times this year they have had more than 50 sog. With the way our defense keeps turning it over one would think that the score would be worse.
    They still have a chance.

  61. HabFab says:

Bulldogs up 3-0 after 2 periods… NJ has got back within a goal in Boston. One of my boys is at that game hopefully he is bring bad luck to the Bruins.

  62. RAM_TOUGH says:

What was the purpose of this two Ref BS in the 1st place?

  63. Mondou6 says:

For the record, SJ had 1 powerplay in 60 minutes versus the Bruins on Thursday.

4 powerplays against us in 40 minutes. I guess we must commit a lot more penalties than Boston. Yeah, that’s it.

    • RAM_TOUGH says:

Not really. I truly believe that the Refs are told to determine the outcomes of games. How else can U explain these BS calls. Also, a Ref 10 ft away lets the call go but the Ref 50 ft away calls it. This BS is taking to fun out of watching hockey.

  64. Storman says:

Desharnais hat trick in the third,, 3.5 million to one odds

  65. Phil Dude says:

RDS still the best … at least its the RIGHT bias

  66. HabFab says:

PK has now moved ahead of Boullion into 3rd for TOI. He may be fighting the flu… who knows?

  67. SlimDiggity says:

Anyone else listening to San Jose’s broadcast? Their color commentator is incredibly whiny. He CANNOT stop talking about Vlasic and is basically trying to say that he’s better than Subban/should win the Norris. Downplaying any good play the Canadiens make and said the hit on Travis Moen should not have been a penalty. For real bro?

  68. habsfan0 says:

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know what the Habs record is when the Sumiteers are in attendance?

  69. SportsFan31 says:

    Phew! Nice save by Price.

  70. Plekasuares says:

Galchenyuk is doing nothing these days his release is way too far back

  71. Mondou6 says:

Ok, we got our 1 PP for the game. SJ should get at least 3 more PP in the next period.

  72. Samovich says:

DD has one of those peskey 70 game curses

  73. Habbu says:

Thank you Carey…..that would have been a killer
