Liveblog: Game 10 – Canadiens pluck Ducks 4-1, end short L streak

Koivu fans

Saku! Saku! Saku!

The ovation began with Saku Koivu taking a late-game faceoff and continues through his selection as the game's Third Star.

Classy, Montreal.

Good on us.

And good on the Canadiens, who broke their two-game losing streak with a solid effort against an Anaheim team that looked sluggish until late in the second period.

Tomas Plekanec, the game's first star, had a goal and added two assists. Rookie Michaël Bournival had a goal and an assist. The other scorers were Brian Gionta and Rene Bourque.

Carey Price made 31 saves for his milestone 150th career win.

Never in doubt

Ptrick Maroon made it interesting with a goal  nine minutes into the period.

But fresh out of the penalty box, Rene Bourque beat Jonas Hiller with a stoppable backhander to seal the deal.

Another letdown

After Brian Gionta scored his third of the season on a 5-on-3 Canadiens power play, Anaheim outshot the home side 10-3 and tested Carey Price severely.

Shots on the period were 16-9 for the visitors.

What's with this team and middle periods?

Stop me if you've heard this one before ...

Your Montreal Canadiens lead 2-0 after 20 minutes.

But a new hero tonight: Speedy, hard-working rookie Michaël Bournival scored the first goal of the game (and his second of the season) and assisted on the Tomas Plekanec slapper that made it 2-0. Bournival has points in four straight games.

It was Pleks' fifth of the young season.

Canadiens had a 10-7 shot advantage

Adieu, Saku?

Thursday night's game may be the last time Montreal hockey fans see Saku Koivu skate on Bell Centre ice.

Unless the Canadiens and Ducks meet in the Stanley Cup final.

Just to be on the safe side, Montrealers who want to wave goodbye to the team's former captain may wish to do so during the only Anaheim visit of the season.

The Ducks are coming off a 4-2 loss Tuesday night in Toronto. Koivu, who turns 39 on Nov. 23, played almost 15 minutes.

Tonight's refs: Frédérick L'Écuyer and ... wait for it ... CHRIS F. LEE.

The way Beaulieu is playing he may want to ask Bournival for apartment hunting advice

They gotta keep pushing the pace…don’t want to see this defensive shell, not our game

  3. danhabsfan says:

Why do the Habs look like they are sitting back and trying to protect? Never a good plan.

So when is MT & BB going at it?

What was MT’s motivation in the room during the 2nd – a trip to DQ after the game?

Maybe Therrien will stick dollar bills in the Ducks’ garters?

Do they still hold their socks up with garters?

So what’s the knock on Louis Leblanc…besides that he likes to beat up on people in bars.

  17. slyCH says:

Is ET LE BUT around? No? Good, he didn’t get (or probably like) my Henry Rollins reference to his avatar. I thought it was Henry Rollins and not what I now suspect is his actual picture… Who uses an actual picture of himself for an avatar? I mean …really? How George Hamilton is that? Someone back me up on that one. Matty? Anyone!

  18. oldtimerguy says:

    DD 9-2 on faceoffs….just sayin…

he does lots of things all the time that don’t always end up in the pts column…no, he’s not to be thrown away just yet….he needs big wingers who actually can finish…not moen or bourque….

    • Max_Hab_Fan says:

I agree. He has been one of the better centre’s this year in the face-off circle. Would be a bonus if he were producing.

    • Dust says:

bourque can finsih. scored 27 goals twice. But yeah… it is the wingers fault DD is not producing. Oh yeah DD also started the season with Max Pac and produced nothing

      • oldtimerguy says:

its not just pacc that he needed…briere with that line was all wrong…you need one big guy to work the corners and walls, one to pass it and one to snipe it….now, with pacc as the snipe guy, so who’s going to get the puck in the corner down low? dd? no. briere? no. pacc cant do both at the same time… so…..the line was set up to fail…and that’s not dd’s fault or responsibility…its the coaches.

and no, bourque is not what I call a finisher…

    • jols101 says:

Well in that case it should be 4.5 million for 6 years instead of 3.5 for 4 years. What a bargain.

      • oldtimerguy says:

admit it…he’s had a good game and has been pretty good of late…sorry if its all about pts for you…but there are many ways to contribute to a hockey team…his pts will come and if they ever get some wingers with size who can play offense, he will be just fine.

  19. Storman says:

American broadcast play by play and analysts have a hell of time pronouncing Beaulieu or should i say Bolio

Can’t give them a hint of a chance to get back into this game…a 4th before the end of the period would be excellent…

  29. BCG says:

How do you change your avatar? Sorry to distract anyone from the game, and I’m sure this has been asked before and I’ve missed it.

  30. Storman says:

  31. BCG says:

Perry with a shot to the head.

  32. Phil Dude says:

    He needs some seasoning.

  40. DadidolizedDougHarvey says:

Moen should be the guy you put on the ice when EVERYBODY else is too tired. Not before. He must be good in the room, that guy,

    Habs Since ’68

Nice to see them go up three nothing but , really, that goal would have been called off back in the day. Talk about in the crease– bad for hockey to reduce it to that.

    • Mattyleg says:

You’re allowed to be in the crease.
That’s a fine goal; there’s no reason that players should stand around while the goalie flops about, deciding whether he should save the puck or not.
