Liveblog: Rangers win 2-1, even series

It’s a best-of-three playoff series.

A shade over four minutes into the second period, a Jordie Benn turnover resulted in Rangers pressure and a Rick Nash goal from close in to win the game.

Almost 12 minutes into the first period, Andrei Markov turned the puck over to Jesper Fast, who went five-hole on Carey Price from close in.

The lead and MSG jubilation held until 18:37, when Shea Weber fed Torrey Mitchell for a tap-in past Henrik Lundqvist.

Shots were 32-24 for the winning team.

Did you guys actual think we were gonna walk all over this series and win it in 5? This is going to 7 and we are going to grind it out and win the series.

    • toneez says:

Finally someone with reason … try telling that to the Nostradamus’s that hang out on this board , some don’t understand that playoff hockey can be a crapshoot but some insist on getting egg on their face and jinxing our team …

      All Habs all the Time

  2. HNS says:

One goal???? WTF??? If they lose this series there will be a going out of business sale this summer including MB in Montreal.

  3. krob1000 says:

OK pride check time now in SJ….for real….somebody has to step up….somebody do something….either build a time machine and skip to game 5 or make a stand physically cause you are not scoring a touchdown and convert for the win

Rangers first goal Marky misplayed the puck. Price for some reason a bit casual reacting and bang through the legs. Bad break us. Lucky break them. Then 2nd goal all Patches had to do is hit the Dman flush at the blueline. But no. Misses the puck. Puck gets shot to the crease. Another softy through Prices legs. Not ragging on Price. Just pointing out two blunders and we get scored on. Unearned. Our goal was a beaut. That Weber post is still ringing in my years. I have a sense of calm still in this series. Whatever happens happens. Would like to see King sit. Alot of people here like this guy but my opinion differs. Hes awful. Lets try Big Mac one game. Cant hurt.

  5. Gerry Pigeon says:

How irritating. Habs now need at least six games to finish the pesky Rangers. They got one lucky goal to start the game, which the Habs got back before the end of the first. With Nash’s goal near mid game, Habs had plenty of time to tie it, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

I am still supremely confident the Rangers are going down, just annoyed it will take at least six, thus not allowing for much of a break between series.

Go Habs Go! Get the series lead back Thursday.

      Gerry ,

So what about your great prediction that the Habs will dominate and win in 5 and chase King Henrick , should I repost your ridiculous post , I guess some people never learn and end up with egg on their face like you this morning , cant we just be fans and not jinx our team , dont know about you but egg on the face seems pretty gross and you should know because your full of egg on the face this morning and you go on to say more foolishness ? cant you just root and be a fan … you are jinxing us !!!!

      All Habs all the Time

Too many passengers tonight – Price kept it close. Should move Galchenyuk back to the wing and put Flynn (or anyone else really) in for King – he adds nothing.

We need the desperation, urgency, quickness and energy of Game 3 every game. Especially now that it’s a best of 3.

Come on boys – time to crank it up!

  7. JohnBellyful says:

New thread … but a lot of it looks familiar.

Really liked what I saw of Lehkonen-Chucky-Rad line in third. Still believe optimal lines are that line and Patch-Pleks-Gally, Byron-Danault-Shaw and 4th lien as is. Especially when down…I was ecstatic to see that Chucky line…was hoping to see them though go with Patch-Pleks-Gally. Also at that point when down would be good to pair Weber-Nate and Markov-Petry and just roll them…..maybe a quick one for Benn-Davidson….but doing this would mean virtually every line getting serious offensive help from back end.

Can’t complain too much because I really liked 4th line and Chcuky adjustment, tinkering on pp (should go nate/weber though) up front has been better as was inserting Mitchell and Davidson….pretty good but still not what I believe to be optimal……I get the current lineup is better defensively and it is pretty darn good….but…especially when down…need to play the heck out of 4 offensive dmen and complimentary lineups are necessary….having Danault out there with Patch is not good and quite honestly his size and being a bit more physical along with Shaw would likely give Byron some room. Plkes could use Patch speed to stretch things and if he can shoot then Gally can go to net….

All in all was not a bad game….tough break on Markov, some good chances…..had a chance and were in it all game….a few more tweaks though could help IMO

I agree it seems Patch may be hurt

  9. JohnBellyful says:

So the Rangers evened the series.
Does that mean the Habs now have their backs to the wall, or are they still a couple of feet out but New York’s getting pushy?

  10. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

When MB was scouting King he must have accidentally watched his tape in fast-forward mode.

  11. habsfan0 says:

Despite being outplayed and outhustled for most of the game, the Canadiens came within a goalpost of sending the game to OT.
    They’ll be better on Thursday.

  12. johnnylarue says:

Anyway, I hope y’all saved some popcorn cuz this series is just getting started. 😉

  13. Arnou Ruelle says:

Delmar post-game show is over-exaggerating this Max Pac dilemma. Is it only the issue of one player or the whole team just didn’t played tonight?

    • krob1000 says:

was not that bad…sometimes the other team gets some credit…Habs had chances…would have liked more aggressive d pinching in third like we saw in 3rd and OT in game 2 though

    • johnnylarue says:

I think our job as Habs fans tonight is to avoid acting like some of those hysterical Rangers fans were acting after Game 3.

When it all comes down to it, these two teams are very, very evenly matched, and the series will probably come down to one or two lucky bounces or unfortunate brain cramps. It’ll suck if we lose, but it’s not like we’re the Caps losing to the frickin’ Leafs (can you imagine!?!)

  14. JohnBellyful says:

I see where the shots were 32-24 for the winning team.
What was the count for the cheap shots?

  15. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

I FINALLY got a goalie point in the pool tonight (stupid Bobrovsky). How embarassing…

    • The Gumper says:

Happy to see there’s another dummy besides me to pick Bargain Bob…
      I share your embarrassment…
The last hockey pool that I won was when my “late round genius, sneaky, in the weeds pick,” exploded on to the world stage in his sophomore year. That was Jammy Jagr.
He’s what, eighty now? Been awhile…

  16. piper says:

I was hoping King would pick up his game in the playoffs but he just looks like another pud.

    • johnnylarue says:

Yeah, he’s your standard defensively-responsible play-the-right-way big forward who seldom gets caught out of position or costs you a goal, and scores just as seldom. He protects the puck alright, has decent level of awareness, but is too slow on his skates to deliver a convincing body check or do much of anything exciting.

      A net sum zero pud.

    • habsr4ever says:

Boy lots of negative comments for a guy who is on the fourth line and was plus one tonight.

    • DDO_Habs_Fan says:

Like I said…they have the good King and we have the bad one.

      • krob1000 says:

He does play Dwight way though. I think King has more to offer…been disappointed and I almost feel like he believes he is trying …his heart is not in it…he played a couple so so games…but there is a different commitment level going on with everyone else and him….might be time for him to take a seat….but I am not comfortable with Martinsen right now either…not sure Mac up for challenge….is Carr healthy somewhere? Flynn? would prefer they go that route…neither is any softer than King right now…and both add more skill and speed….too bad…can’t imagine anyone would predict how attached King’s heart appears to be to LA….could be wrong but that is not the guy I remember….just lacking intensity …even in his “good games”…heart not in it.

  17. The Gumper says:

Hockey is a game of cow hairs. If La Montagnes blast is a quarter inch left, we’re planning the parade route.
As it is, we took it to them in the third, certainly in the last half. We’re good…

  18. Habnormal says:

All Max has to do is pop 1 goal
And float for the rest of the game and we will all be happy. He is not hurt. He always plays like that. He will get a goal this series I’m sure and all Weill be forgotten. But man is he ever frustrating
