High risk, high reward.
The kid is coming off a serious preseason knee injury, a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
But there is a HUGE upside.

The NHL draft is quickly replacing the trade deadline as the time to do deals
This just in Weber traded to Philly for a steak and cheese sandwich
Yannick then…
OMG trade up to get Teravainen!

He is going to Buffalo by the looks of things…
I wonder how high Timmins projects him?
Who do you send the other way to get this done? That’s the big question… Beaulieu? Do you do that?!
Who is going to trade their pick when they can get a top 5 prospect at #15? Things just worked out really well for teams.
Have to think Calgary is going to take Teravainen…they desperately need offence with their forwards starting to age.
Nice towel, lady!
So Buffalo and Washington, teams with two picks in mid first round have Grigorenko and Forsberg magically fall to them. They probably could not have imagined a better scenario. It’s pretty much perfect for them.
Holy. It’s all over the place.
Loving this draft. Can we move up?
@ b_b_r
I hope you’re joking. What did the kid do to rile you up like that other than answering smilingly and confidently to questions asked of him?
Hey be nice to him, his favorite player is Rene “Mr. Electricity” Bourque
McGuire decrees the Swedes are ” now ” bonafide producers of NHL talent :
quick, someone tell Naslund, Lidstrom, Forsberg, Sundin …
ALWAYS Habs -
D Mex
Loob, Nilsson, Lindbergh, Markus Naslund, Alfredsson, Franzen, Zetterberg…
The more McGuire talks, the more I realize he is simply a tool.
And to think he was almost … whoa ! just woke up !!
ALWAYS Habs -
D Mex
Can’t wait to see Galchenyuk vs. Grigorenko when the two teams meet.
Ouch. This guy can hurt us six times a year.
He almost slid all the way to #33 though…
Forsberg went to the Caps, Grigorenko to the Sabres, Teravainen is nect …

There goes Fosberg…
It will be interesting to see how these guys develop. WAS did a great job of fleecing the Avs with the Varlamov trade…
The Avs also got fleeced in their trade with STL. Even when the trade for Vharlamov was announced, I couldn’t imagine what possessed them to give up a first rounder for a potentially good goalie, but one who hadn’t proven much.
Is Bob Gainey a member of the Avs ?
LOL. He’s applying his considerable skills on the Dallas Stars.
What are the odds the Stars end up in QC in two years?
Can’t stand the off ice PK..what an ego

I thought it was great of him to greet the new kid.
Love PK.
Yea unbelievable ego answering that question. What an ass
Personality….
nothing wrong with that
Doing ten pushups is tougher than it sounds.
if Habs manage to draft Malcolm Subban, will PK join him on stage?
They should send him to make the selection. Let the boos rain down!
lol
Washington gets Forsberg >.< Wow, do they ever seem to have quality players just fall into their lap. Scary.
Hey McPhee why so serious ????
I don’t think we should get carried away about a good forward falling all the way to #33. As of now, no one has been drafted that was projected to be taken in the second round or later. So there’s a bit of musical chairs going on, but Messrs Forsberg and Faksa and Grigorenko will start flying off the board now.
Exactly.
Point well taken, nevertheless mathematically speaking the more defencemen that get taken the more of a chance there will be a desirable forward available. 33rd is still pretty close to a first round pick
Yeah, but all that is happening is guys who were projected to go 5-10 are trading places with guys who were going to go 11-15. Net gain is nil so far. Cusp guys like Stefan Matteau and Martin Frk and Mike Matheson are not any more likely to drop in our laps.
I see what you mean. I’m still hopeful for one of the players you mention
or perhaps Henrik Samuelson

Trade Eller & Webber for a second 1st..do it now Marc
«eller + Weber will get you a 2nd max. Weber is worth something only to his family
A team like Tampa with the #10 pick could get locked into the idae of taking a defenceman and make a list of 6 or 7 guys they can probably get then end taking the 8th defenceman. Maybe they had their guy ranked higher than some of the D who went before him, but the may have just stubbornly picked the wrong guy because he plays the right position.
Bergevin could show a bold streak by making a trade to get Grigorenko, Forsberg, or Teravainen.

…agree
…include M. Subban
MB should have taken Grigorenko in the first place IMO
Galchenyuk is a great pick.

Would be nice to get another pick right now the slick Finn or Foresberg…do it Marc
It was very classy of Marc Bergevin to allow Trevor Timmins to call out the selection… I have been really impressed by him
Timmins always makes the pick.

For all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a DRESS and the kid plus PK are nice too
How sad would it be if Washington comes out of tonight with Ribeiro, Grigorenko and one of Forsberg or Teravainen?
They pick 11th and 16th.
Sad for them perhaps………..Ribs is trouble, Forsberg is unspectacular and Tera is shorter then the free stack of buttermilk pancakes at Pancake house on Monday mornings before 7.
Ribeiro hasn’t been that much trouble since he left Montreal. And he is a 55-65 point guy every season. We’re hoping Galchenyuk can do that.
Throw Forsberg (who I’m willing to bet you haven’t watch play) and Teravainen onto the Capitals in a couple of years with that defence corps, Holtby and of course Ovechkin/Backstrom.
The Capitals may be the big winners of the night.
oh and Grigs is clearly the Angelo Esposito of this draft.
And Beaulieu was the Angelo Esposito of last year’s draft, but I’m willing to bet most Habs fans are glad that everybody else got cold feet.
Time will tell on Grigorenko, Beaulieu and all these kids.
Mock drafts seem well off across the board. I’m keen to see what we end up with in the second round. Timmins must be happy as he has to have guys on his list that could make it to his second selection.
Who needs Dmen? We gots some… Looking to move up.
The more defencemen that get taken the more likely there will be a choice forward for the Habs to take at #33…
In many respects, the slide of Forsberg, Teravainen and Grigorenko into the middle of the first round is a nightmare scenario.
Suddenly teams like Ottawa and Washington and Buffalo might land an impact forward that was considered right there alongside the guy we landed by sucking so hard all season.
At this point, whoever gets them, its a definate steal
Trade both seconds… you could probably get a pick around 15-20.

Awesome call MB right away….
I wonder what the reason for the slide is? Maybe the scouts on these teams prepared all year to draft a defenseman and thought ‘better safer than sorry’ than going with other scouts’ words.
WAS wants to win now. Maybe they want to trade?
But yeah, Ottawa has to love this. Plays right into their hands.
There was a commentator on Sportsnet Hockey Central at Noon said from 24th to 40th its a toss-up!
I can see his point.

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”
Not that I’ve seen many drafts, but this must be one of the most unpredictable drafts ever.
I mean, sure, it’s surprising that the first three picks actually turned out how it was predicted to be, but after that, it’s chaos especially with no one drafting the forwards.
Habs are going to have some very good players when this draft is done. While everyone are picking defensemen which is good for the Habs we can get loaded up on forwards, because for the last few years we have been drafting d-men.
It shows with the depth we have on defense.
So it’s Crosby and Malkin for the long-haul in Pittsburgh. I still think they could have traded Pleks/Price for Malkin/Fleury and I would love that deal.
Love the Galchenyuk pick as well! Awesome! Timmins and Bergevin looked so relieved to get him.

I love how supposedly the Capitals have had it with Alexander Semin and temperamental diva forwards, then trade for Mike Ribeiro.
good point
Galchenyuk’s injury is going to turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as he would have been the first pick overall if he played more than a handful of games for Sarnia this year, his rookie season rocked after being the first pick in the OHL draft,,,
Is it a bad thing that my interest has now shifted to seeing my tweets show up on the TSN screen?
It was certainly more expedient in the old days when they just phoned you to tell you what taem picked you

With all the good forwards still left, at what point do you consider trying to move up from #33 say #13 or so to take Forsberg or Grigorenko or Faksa?
“Et le but!”
If I’m Bergevin, I started huddling with my guys a few picks ago.
Quick. Trade our 2nd from Nashville plus Weber or Diaz or both to Tampa and pick Forsberg

Isn’t Jordan Staal MUCh better than an 8th pick?

Yes. GM’s in this league have lost their marbles.
not if you live in some bizarro world where any first round pick is worth more than an actual first line player, or haven’t you heard all the trade Subban or Plekanec for a draft pick nonsense.
That being said, I think there is an argument for saying “Carolina is where Staal wanted to play. Why didn’t the Hurricanes just wait a year and sign him as a UFA?”
“Et le but!”

I guess Trouba is Winnipegs version of our Tinordi
WE got our guy! ITs a good day.
90 percent of us wanted Alex cause we see the upside to be a star in this league.
After passing on Coutrier last year, no Forsberg for the Jets either. Could come back to bite them.
Wow. Defensemen much?
TRADE UP FOR FORSBERG…
HOW GREAT WOULD THAT BE?
Trouba looks overjoyed.

He can go mosquito hunting.
The more I hear Pierre speak, the more I like Bergevin
I wonder, with the Pavelec situation in winnipeg will they go for subban or vasilevski?
Hey, welcome back Stormin! Where ya been? This place has been kinda weird recently.”When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro” Hunter S. Thompson. Hola!
Thanks ,, back from Vacation,,, Chivas and Hunter S Hola
well so much for my trade for Eric Stall to reunite him with Eric Cole here in montreal……dam!
Time for Jordan Stall to show that he can carry the mail. I like this deal for Pitt.
very interesting draft to say the least.
This just in… Staal traded mid-wedding. Has to buy his jersey.
I, for one, am hugely surprised that so many top picks are being used on D men, leaving guys like Faksa, Grigorenko, Forsberg and Teurevainen still there – guys that were supposed to go in the Top 10 at some point or another
Let’s just wait for the Rick Nash and Zach Parise sweepstakes chugging along the trades during this Draft day!
Ray Shero is a class act. Great interview regarding the trade of Stall.
Grigs and Fosberg and the Finn are falling… Our early second rounder will be interesting.
Will we move down to go get another first rounder. Considering our prospect window, I would give it strong consideration. Tank another year if you have to… We’d be fully stocked for the next decade.
Love Galchenyuk. I guess he plays in Sarnia next year and gets to dominate.
Seems like a good year for the Habs to be looking for forwards. Keep those D picks going!
Will Habs make a trade to acquire Grigorenko or Forsberg? Or Subban?
Draft day always beats the snot out of trading deadline day
Kinda weird that they are all passing on Trouba? He seems like a stud D-man.
the more it seems, the more this draft looks ok to good
Well he’s not getting passed over for no-names, everyone so far makes sense. Maybe Hampus Lindholm was a mild surprise, but that’s it.
There you go.
Now that all the defencemen are gone, the forwards will start flying off the shelves again.
Listen to Pierre snap his suspenders, saying about the Derrick Pouliot: “I knew this was coming, ….”
The kid looks like he’s fifteen years old, and has to live down his last name. Not only Benoit, but Oiler first-rounder Marc-AndrĂ©.
Classy move by Shero
This just in Jordan Stall just traded his bride for the Maid of Honor
brilliant…..
No, no, there was also a bridesmaid in the deal, and a sister to be named later.
Okay, a true blockbuster trade: finally! I wonder if Carolina is convinced that Jordan will sign with them next year.
The Penguins are interested in Parise as well? They’ll never be able to pay all that salary with Neal, Crosby and Malkin.
Would they dare trade Crosby ?
forsberg would be a sick choice for pitts
That was a good move by Pitts.
