Late move: The Canadiens sent Louis Leblanc and recalled Blake Geoffrion, who will be in uniform for the Tuesday night game in Tampa.
Your Montreal Canadiens made the first trade of the day:
Andrei Kostitsyn to Nashville for a second-round draft choice in 2013 and return of the conditional pick that went to Nashville in the Hal Gill trade.
So Gill and Kostitsyn for second-rounders in 2012 and 2013, Blake Geoffrion and Robert Slaney.
The Canadiens also claimed Brad Staubitz on waivers from Minnesota.
Staubitz, 27, is 6’1″, 215 lbs. In 43 games with the Wild, he has 0 points, 73 PiM and nine fights.
It was a quiet day.
The biggest trade probably was an exchange of defencemen, Minnesota sending Nick Schultz to Edmonton for Tom Gilbert.
The Bruins added Brian Rolston, Mike Mottau and Greg Zanon.
Sami Pahlsson went to Vancouver.
Ottawa sent Brian Lee to Tampa Bay for Matt Gilroy. The Lightning also sent Carter Ashton to Toronto for Keith Aulie.
Rick Nash stayed put.

Im excited for the future of the habs and really excited to see our 4th line tomorrow i think they should’ve sent down palushai instead of LL hoping to see the lines look like this tomorrow
dd line –
eller – pleks – borque
palushai – gomez – moen(?)
staubitz – geoffrion – white
i feel next year we will be a amuch better team but to be honest i cant wait for 2013-14 cause by then we will probably have Tinordi, bournival, nash, bealieau, gallagher, and hopefully grigorenko! not to mention by then Eller, and DD will be hitting the primes of their career and maybe even LL too!
~Listen to the rooster! He knows what he’s saying!
Plus Kistitsyn must have hated playing for a team that usually has to keep playing after the regular season. He’s lazier than a tree and had no Hab pride. Now he can play where he’ll get more time to go cow tipping in Belarus.
too bad nashville is making playoffs

Are people still on here b!tching about the kostitsyn trade? Man, did you guys actually watch him these past 2 years? He’s awful, and worth nothing more than what he was traded for today.
Honestly! He’s got zero heart.
Just like is brother right?

Was this the Trade Deadline or the Dead Tradeline? AK the big fish of the catch… Not much going on…

People, please!… Do you really think that Pierre Gauthier took a lesser offer from the Predators than what was out there? The word was out about Andrei Kostitsyn, many analysts have stated before today that there was no interest at all for him. Darren Dreger quipped that the Canadiens held on to him for a season too long in terms of his trade value.
What did we expect to reap from a lazy, moody, streaky, underachieving winger who is free to walk at the end of the season? The points comparison with Paul Gaustad is inept. Mr. Gaustad is signed beyond this July, is effective in the defensive zone, and appears at times to give a damn.
(Edit: Paul Gaustad is in fact an unrestricted free agent on July 1)
By trading him to Nashville, we dealt with the best partner possible. They are gearing up for a playoff run, needed scoring and wanted to prove to Shea Weber and Ryan Suter that they are serious about winning. Andrei comes with low risk, they test-drive him for two months and decide if they want to re-sign him in July. His brother Sergei also made them a more likely environment for him to succeed. Finally, the coach and GM are experienced and secure, and could assume the risk of this experiment. The Preds were the team who were the most likely to be intrigued by his potential and thus give us the most in return.
As far as the fact that we are getting a 2013 second-rounder, some posters have stated that it is equivalent to a 2012 third-rounder, that that is the formula used in trades. This may be the fact during the draft when a team finds that one of the players it likes has ‘fallen’, and it is desperate to pick up an additional draft pick to scoop him, it has a gun to its head and usually swaps a higher pick in a later draft for an immediate one. These conditions don’t exist in the middle of the season though. While a future pick isn’t as valuable as a current one, since you have to go a whole year or more without an asset, any team would trade a later 2nd for a current 3rd any day.
This applies even more to our Canadiens, since next year’s draft is thought to be deeper than this year’s. Also, if you have too many picks in one year, as would have been the case if they had stockpiled another 2012 2nd rounder, it is harder for your organization to absorb all these youngsters, and some may fall through the cracks. The Canadiens, by getting Nashville’s 2013 2nd-rounder, are also now in good shape if they feel they want to take a run at Nathan MacKinnon.
Instead of viewing Andrei as a #10 overall draft pick with size and a wicked shot, the rest of the league saw him as a fringe player who could barely help the last-place Eastern Conference team and hadn’t scored a goal in a month. Let’s understand the situation, accept it, agree that we got as much as was possible in these circumstances, and feel good about getting a second round pick for a player who was most likely to leave without compensation in July.

http://relentlessineptitude.blogspot.com/
Just stop it now. This forum has no place for common sense. Only on HIO did anyone even care about Andrei Kostitsyn. The rest of the league laughed at the Montreal Canadiens for drafting him in the first place, just like general managers laughed when they selected Alexander Burturlin.
Gaustad is not in fact signed beyond this July. He’s a UFA, exactly as Kostitsyn is.

Thanks for the correction Bill.
Wow, to me that demonstrates even more how lowly Andrei is viewed in the league. He is seen as less valuable than Paul Gaustad and even Hal Gill. That says volumes.

Says just as much to me about the Habs management and their ability to manage assets. Just for instance, if the Habs had had a long-range plan about Kostitsyn, then they would have known last year that he wasn’t in their future: why not deal him then, if his value was higher?
In the end, I’m more concerned about their inability to utilize a talented young forward better. The Habs have traded too many good young players because they were “underachieving head-cases”, only to watch them emerge elsewhere. Time for them to stop blaming the players and look in the mirror!

And, thankfully, the link eventually showed up below. Merci.
Isn’t it amazing that we all think AK should be run out of town because he’s terrible, but then we can’t believe that he couldn’t fetch a bigger return? Time to give our heads a thorough shake. If we think he’s expendable, then you can’t expect others to pay top dollar.
(Just using “we” in general terms.)
There were those of us who didn’t think he should be run out of town though. I’m one, and I think this trade kinda sucks. They’d be better off resigning him than ditching him for a 2013 2nd rounder. Unless they have a strategy to replace his goals and hits.

Just found out about AK46. Soooo glad to see him gone. The feeling is one of relief, comparable to, but greater than the relief of constipation.
I am not ecstatic with this trade. I believe AK has the talent to be much better but was not used correctly. Management lost faith in him but coaches did not give him the chance to succeed. The guy must have played on a liune with everybody. But, whatever. I have been watching this team for 30 years and they have been making more bonehead moves in the last 17 years than the had in their first 85 years of existance. This team gives up on guys and does not have an identity. I can only pray that this lottery pick, getting rid of \gomez and Kabarle to the minors, and the five second rounders in the next two years change the face of the team and create some sort of identity.
I don’t want to see Maurice tonight, I want to see The Rocket!
If Gauthier were any kind of leader, he would take the blame for this garbage season onto himself in an effort to insulate the players. Montreal is screaming for blood and Gauthier has smugly pointed the finger at his assistant coach, his coach and now his players. He denies any responsibility but expects his players to be the model of accountability. What a weasel!
JOKER: “This season has shown Montreal your true colors, unfortunately. AK46, he’s just the beginning. And, and as for your so-called plan? Molson has no jurisdiction. He’ll find you, and make you squeal. I know the squealers when I see them and…

“Let’s be clear on the facts…”
It’s time the Ghosts of the Forum had a little chat with the Ghost of Bell Centre. I don’t think anyone would object if they were to spirit him away.
Nashville has just improved a notch and could go past the first round, courtesy of the Habs inc. and the Brothers K. A gift to country music.
Let’s all look on the bright side. They ain’t gonna blow a lead tonight!
I wouldn’t rule that out, it’s been that kind of season …
load?
Moving forward I am going to make the most of the 19 remaining matches – surely none of them will be billed as the “biggest game of the season” – and maximize my enjoyment as a Hab fan.
How, you ask, is this possible when there is so little to cheer about?
Well, for one, I’ve lowered my expectorations. No more spitting at the TV screen. I now have a spittoon. The wife sees this as a good thing.
I also intend to recognize in my own small way good things done by Canadiens during the game. Every time a pass is completed, a shot reaches the net, or the puck is cleared out of the zone, I’m gonna pop in a potato chip. Or three.
Goals, great saves and terrific body checks, of course, will merit handfuls of chips to express my full appreciation.
On the other hand – that would be my left – miscues and bonehead plays will be met with a different response but every bit as visceral: nibbles of broccoli, green peppers, cauliflower and such.
Without any dip.
And, yes, severe brain cramps by the boys in the bleu-blanc-et-rouge will be answered by stomach cramps on my part as I stuff my mouth with veggies. (It’s one way to stop the screaming.)
If I’m going to be subjected to a steady diet of mediocrity I want it to be on my terms.
Either the Habs – and my girth – will rise to the challenge and realize their full potential over the remainder of the schedule, or they will sink to new depths and I’ll become a vegan.
Not a pretty thought but it might put me in line for a management position.
you spit on ur tv……
It was just a figment of speech.
I was thinking a bottle of Molson’s beer for good plays and a bottle of Smithwicks for bad plays…hate Molson’s so feel safe.
I’m not a beer drinker. Think I’ll go with Pepsi and Coke.
RC Cola if the coach pulls out a win.
Depending on who they Tab to be the next coach, you could go with that Diet Cola of the same name.
You have Zero chance of that!
Might just want to watch reruns from late 70s of the Habs and enjoy your Chips.
Hostess chips. Remember those?
Yah, they came out with some bizarre flavours in the early 80′s. But I am biased towards Old Dutch chips, but they are now bought out and not as good as “the good ol days”, sound familiar?
Yeah, the old Old Dutch chips were better.

First, where are all the people who wanted AK gone? Post your jubilation or this thread will look lopsided!
But seriously, I think most of us aren’t angry that AK got traded but what we got in return. Maybe AK is only worth a 2nd rounder but I find it hard to believe that no one else wanted to take a flyer on a proven 20+ goal scorer. Package AK with a 3rd for a 1st. Package AK with Gill for Nashville’s 1st. Heck, trade AK to a team trying to make the playoffs (Dallas, LA, Anaheim, Calgary, etc.) for that same 2nd rounder banking on the chance that they miss the playoffs and we get a high 2nd.
Paul Gaustad, for all his defensive prowess, is not worth a 1st rounder, but Buffalo waited and got a 1st rounder. AK is not worth a 1st rounder but maybe with some people thrown in (Weber maybe?) someone in a desperate win now mode (Nashville) would have made it work. Finally, while our 2nd is at most 10 spots away from Nashville’s 1st. Nashville’s 2nd is probably 20 spots away from our 2nd.
I’m not even sure AK is worth a second rounder. Word is out on this guy, big, big shot and as lazy as a mule in July.
“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”
Darren Dreger said there was no one interested in AK. Nashville didn’t want to even go for the 2nd.
This is what Barry Trotz thinks of ‘your’ Canadiens. Sorry ‘my’ Canadiens don’t resemble this bunch of losers and bonehead management so I can’t say my right now. His comments pretty much sums up my thoughts on not only this trade but every trade the habs have made in the past 8-10 years. Trotz as quoted today:
“Montreal’s just a different world,” Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. “When we got Sergei, I heard nothing but Sergei — he couldn’t do this, he couldn’t do that. … He’s not going to help you. They’re wrong and we’re right. Sergei was one of the best things. We virtually gave up nothing and got a first-line left winger. Nothing wrong with that.
“He’s a good player. I expect the same from Andrei. What I know is he’s a terrific talent and he can play. We’ll make sure our group is on top of that.”
In the Sergei Kostitsyn deal, Nashville gave up goalie Dan Ellis, who became an unrestricted free agent and signed with Tampa Bay, and minor-leaguer Dustin Boyd. Sergei led the Predators with a career-high 23 goals last season

0 divisional championships.
0 conference championships.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
This isn’t about how much AK is worth. He’s an expiring contract you want to deal. You’re assuming many GMs are interested and willing to part with valued assets for him. The truth is rentals don’t have the same value as players under contract in trades.
Other GMs have the luxury of walking away if you ask for too much, they don’t have to get him. You have to deal him. Negotiation balance is not in your favor.

That’s GM credential there with skill like that Punkster!
Gerald, was the accident near you guys yesterday?
Couple miles away, know the area well, used to do some work right beside those tracks. Pretty scary stuff. Tragic.
A true Shibiblit.
Watching PG’s interview right now at RDS and saying “Reconstruction, NON!”, he is really making his work more harder for him to stay as GM.
How can you say there is no rebuilding to be done when the evidence is clear this season: This team is not ready!
Id be surprised if PG is there next season, I mean the markov signing was a wash, kaberle contract has been horrible, bourque form what i saw, donst give his all. we lost ak the wiz and still are hanging on too pipe dreams in gomez.
and not to mention how he snubbeb pern wasnt cool and martin on gameday either.
There is an obvious “chemistry” problem with these guys – Cammareli was right – a “loser” attitude and ONE qualified NHL Dman doesn’t help much. This team needs a huge overhaul especially in their own end – when Gauthier goes and a qualified GM comes in and obtains 2 or 3 Dmen that can clear the zone, make the first pass and win most battles along the boards we’ll see that Carey Price actually deserves to go to the All-star game every year. Where’s the Captain these days? (I know he’s hurt but he could be trying to help somehow) -just asking
Of course not. It’s full steam ahead to 8th place again. Molson needs to sell more of his 11$ per can beer. Can’t do that if the Bell Centre isn’t full. Can’t do that if the Habs don’t make 8th place. It doesn’t matter that it would hamper them ever being a contender for the Cup. It’s not about winning the Cup. It’s about selling beer.
The Habs are not a hockey team. They are beer salesmen.
Someone was just saying how much cap space we’re gonna have. First they assume Gomez will be gone, which seems obvious but a lot of us thought he’d be gone early this year if he didn’t perform… and second they’re forgetting the resigning of Price, Subban, Emelin, and Eller – all need raises – and possibly Moen, White… and others. Do the math people.
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
I will do the math since noone else appears to have stepped up:
Dd(0.85)-Cole (4.5)- Pacioretty (1.7)= 7.1
Pleks(5)-gio(5)-Bourque(3.4)= 13.4
Eller(1.7)-Leblanc (1.1)-Moen(2)= 4.8
White(.75)-4th line center (3 million)-rugged winger(2)=5.75
extras 1.5 million forward total is 30.65 millionish
Markov (5.75)- kaberle(4.25)
Subban (3.5)-gorges (3.9)
Emelin (2)- diaz(1.25) weber (.85)
tough dman 3.5 defense total 25 million
Price (5 million) Back up (1.5)= 6.5
Total 62.2 million
Campoli and Moen as trade bait? PG should have used a bigger hook!
Mr. Kostitsyn is very pleased to join Mr. Kostitsyn, according to Nashville radio. They already did a promo with Garth Brooks!
Is that you Pierre?
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Face it, folks: the Habs determined that Kostitsyn’s rope had run out in Montreal, and he wasn’t going to be resigned for next season.
As such, we gained a 2nd round pick in exchange for 19 regular season games that may or may not include a meaningful goal from AK.
Not a bad trade.
save this comment, put it on your wall and come back in 5 years. then look at career goals between the 2 players, and let me know.
or better yet go on wikipedia, search up draft history find me all the players around 50-60 th pick in the nhl who score aboiut 30 goals each season. oh and for under 4 million.
Go to any web site today and find me a guy named Andrei Kostitsyn who scores “about 30 goals each season” And I’ll sign him for OVER $4 million.
name me the last player mtl had around the 60th pick who scored more then 20.
Got that link for me yet? : )
In last ten years Habs have drafted Lats, Lappy and Pleks between 45-75. PK was 2nd rounder. You’re not going to replace it with 20 goals next season but this is what “rebuilding” teams do. You need value for UFA’s and as much talent as he had, AK had been given countless opportunities to shine. Like the old saying goes, he has the tools but not the toolbox.
This is a hard one… what to do with AK. But posts like the one from Bozo McBozo where AK is already being treated WELL in Nashville scares me… If his inconsistencies were really due to his treatment here then we are in for a load of regrets. But I dont deny that based on effort and results AK needed to be traded.
did the reasrch for you,
Latrenedress in 2005 with 45( which is about 10 picks higher then were getting.
and before thhat, it would be mike riberio againg with 45 in 1998.
now take a look yourself..
http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/MTL/draft.html
no i got a better link for you, look below, as for ak he has scored over 20, 3 times hit 26 two years ago 15 in 50 games and 100 in 5 seasons.
not that i like the guy so much but the numbers wont lie, what we got for him, when we get him if history repeats, we wont get t hat kind of production.
You are missing the point.
Who’s better, a kid of modest talent who works like a dog and scores 30 or a kid with god given talent who parties, goofs off and scores 30?
I know who I want to go to war with. How about you?
where the kid who works like a dog and scores us 30 cause I havt seen many of those in my life in montreal, you?
Chuck, the fact is, in a market void of offensive forwards, PG should have received more in return. If Gill is worth a second and decent prospect, AK should have gathered more. Regardless of the Habs’ intention with him long term.
Of course, I’m one of the people who would have liked to see him re-sign.
oranges and apples is the market for defensemen and forwards.
For shite’s sake. Dominic Moore and his career high, 18 goals, pulled down a second(again).
Lots of teams wanted a forward who could pot goals. We should have got more.
Ugly times,ugggly!
If he was good for 25 goals, I’d be all for bringing him back, too… at a reasonable price. Hey, he even offered the ‘hometown discount’, but the Habs, for whatever reason, feel that he’s not in their future plans. And at the very least they also get what it would have cost to sign him under next year’s cap freed up to address another need. I’m guessing that they see Bourque filling AK’s current role on next year’s squad.
Moving him early also tells me that they probably didn’t have any indications that they could get more for him as the day progressed. You’d have to think that there were discussions with other teams regarding AK before today. This morning was probably a case of “move him for what we can get now, or we might not be able to move him at all.”
That’s the thing Chuck, I’ve no faith that the lay of the land was well read.
Not a bad trade? Why didn’t PG throw in Gill weeks ago with Yannick Weber and we could have gotten a 1st round pick to compliment a third round with prospects.
Face it, we had no one to offer, we are not good enough for other teams, to make a trade. PG (and BG) should resign effective immediately.
Back to retooling as we have always done in the past.
Our club is going nowhere for seasons to come but down in the standings.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
For people complaining about sending down Leblanc and keeping Palushaj… I think at this point we can all agree that the playoffs are not even a possibility. I think the management realizes that for the sake of this teams future, they might as well put the weakest team on the ice every night to finish lower in standings and to get that higher draft pick… Maybe that’s why they kept Kaberle, Weber, Campoli and Palushaj…
We can only hope that in the off season, Kaberle, Weber and Gomez are gone and we use that cap space to sign or trade for a #1 Center, a big scoring top 6 winger (Someone like Umberger) and 2 solid defencemen…
if management dosn;t believe, then why should we? why are we watching anyway? 20 games left to hope for a hight draft selection, I can think of alot more interesting things to do, can you?
Actually I am happy that my 7 to 10 has opened up every other day for the next couple of months
signing free agents is going to be problamatic this summer after this season’s results. Good thing we have Cole under contract. Don’t think well see anyone like that. You may see a thrird or fourth liner added in August.

At first, I actually read this as “Trade Deadline excrement”. Turns out that I wasn’t too far off the mark.
I fell for this tsn tactic a few years ago, now I live my life and save about 8 hours to spend doing something actually fun.
another bad trade.
this translates to about a 50-60th selection in the draft, (which isnt next years right?) and we trade a proven 25 – 30 goal scorer whose price tag is actually not too pricey considering what he produces. How many second round selections score 30 goals, answer, not many, so weaker today and in the future is my assessment.
ps habs wanted size up front, well AK is big and was second in hits i believe. painful to watch our beloved habs fall apart so badly again , didnt we just rebuild !? a few seasons ago. I gave up on this team about 2 months ago and it was a great choice you should do the same, == if you havnt already taken a step back. more to life then watching idiots screw the team we love so much , and milliionairs give a half ass effort when we make them who they are.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Ok, I’m no fan of Gauthier (want him gone) and admittedly haven’t read all 2000 comments registered on the Kostitsyn trade, but I’m surprised so many people are against the deal.
Can we agree we didn’t need AK for the rest of this season? Yes
Was there a good chance we were going to be outbid for his service at July 1st? Most probably
Was today the last day to be able to trade him? Yes
Did we have a better offer on the table for him? Probably not
Was it better to let him walk on July 1st than get 2 picks for him? No
Are we allowed to bid for him on July 1st? Yes (a new GM could attempt to do it)
Would I want better value in the deal? You bet, but really is anybody saying Gauthier rejected a better deal? Not to my knowledge.
Not a bad deal by any stretch, especially as a do or die deadline deal…
you are not allowed to post positive and well thought-out posts here… Are you new?
Haha, thanks man. I am relatively new here, but hold it, I believe I too caught the negative virus pretty quickly after I joined. You should read my posts on Gomez, Kaberle and the Markov debacle. Nashville has more to lose with that deal than we do (imagine they get outbid by somebody). You don’t look for and won’t get equal value when trading expiring contracts at the deadline. It’s not Plekanec or Gionta who got traded away today.
be nice if management had their priorities right, for instance, just sending gomer down to the minors a last season, would have kept us some cap room to actually sign a fa outside price and subban. all the marbles are on price now, hope he delivers, or no cup for us.
your suggesting molson take on more money…..ah no.
sometime u have to go 1step back to go 2 steps forward. I bet he lost alot of sales this season. and value of the team over all surely didnt go up!
Just listened to the Gauthier press conference. He never answered a question. What is he, the President of the United States? And the press, what impressive and hard-hitting questions they posed (loud cough). You can’t be worried about being denied access when you don’t hardly have any. Whatever happened to that lady that asked Martin about Cole’s PP time? At least she had a pair. What a pointless exercise. For all his bluster at least someone like Burke reveals his thought process. I’m not sure Gauthier really has any, at least not any that are fully formed. Get rid of this man now.
Hire Pierre McGuire
No.
be nice!! montreal rep!@
who do you guys think would be the best GM for the habs? and would u throw Trevor Timmins in as a potential dark horse candidate for the job?
No one currently employed by the HABS should be the GM or coach! They may be retained as part of a complete staff but new blood is needed.
Here’s some analysis you might enjoy:

larry carriere .ass,t gm.
Whatever upper hand we got in the Gill trade just got nullified. AK was worth more than that.
I would have signed him if that was the best offer on the table.
I’ve shown patience with Gauthier, but this is it. You can only forgive his classlessness so long. When he burns an asset with a skill set the team needs I’ve had enough.
Hope he’s done by tomorrow.
You just need to be patient and let the roster gell, gell, gell,…
gotta get rid of Gainey too.
I agree ONLY IF we cannot resign him (or a better player for similar $) during the offseason. How thick is blood? will the kosties stick together or will AK wanna come back to the french smoke?
As long as Gomez dresses, this franchise is shite.
Dress Gauthier against the Bruins.
One way or the other, I don’t see him suiting up for this team next year.
Gomez is a blessing. If not for his contract PG,BG would land a 10 million dollar contract for a frazzled Vinny or something worse.. We should thank our lucky stars their hands are tied by Gomez’s contract. Gomez? Give him one more training camp and then play him 30 minutes a game next year. Bag skate for 7 million!
Sends down Leblanc instead of Palushaj…I don’t get it.
brutal…now we have to hope that a player 5 years from now will turn out to be a 20-goal scorer…not happenin with the current management….not sure what’s worse…having to watch Campoli, Kaberle, and Gomez for the rest of the year…or having to put up with Gauthier…can’t believe Gauthier hasn’t been terminated.
My guess is to give Leblanc serious ice-time and rebuild his offensive confidence.
As for Palushaj it’s kind of now or never for him. There’s little value in him continuing in the Ahl. He’s spent enough time there and this year he has been very effective at that level. It’s time for him to take the step… or not.
No kidding – LL was BRUTAL last night and not his typical self. Lets pull a Max Pack on him and bring him back when he is ready for top 6 duty!
The season’s over.
Let LL be the top centre in Hamilton, and shield him from the boos in Montreal. It’s gonna get real ugly.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
I may be reading too much into Hal Gill’s comments re acquisition of AK46 but it seems he is comparing, favourably, the(team) atmosphere in Nashville against that of Montreal.
Looks like the Goat has a good relationship with David Poile. Maybe they can work out a deal to get Shea Weber in red, white and blue.
Pierre G just said he still thinks the team can make the playoffs.
Your kidding. If PG said they can still make the playoffs he doesn’t qualify to be stick boy! WTF!
Too bad though, that goofy Goat didn’t really check the stats and the past history behind some of Nashville’s assets. Maybe if he only knows Shea Weber and Josh Gorges are friends and were former teammates from the Kelowna Rockets, he could’ve worked that out. What his one-track mind is only thinking of is sending AK out to reunite with his younger brother Sergei.
brutal day at the office again for PG…AK was not getting a first – no chance but should have been able to get a 2nd in 2012 at least. Quite irritated to see Campoli, Weber, Moen and Darch still on this team. The Hawks got a 5th rounder for John Scott – annoying for 2 reasons – 1 – Habs should have grabbed him and 2 – should have been able to get 3rd or 4th rounders for above mentioned names. Lotsa toughness moving around – interesting since so many chumps around here (including the management of our team) don’t think its important in the NHL.
hey – at least they got Staubitz – who plays mostly F by the way.
Why would you want a 2012 pick? 2013 has better draft talent.
I love reading when people write stuff like: “We will draft a useless US high school defenceman anyway”.
Because Habs drafted 2 – Fisher who was a bust and we got a 2nd rounder as a compensation and certain Ryan McDonagh, who could become a defensive stalwart for years to come for the Rangers or someone else. Not bad, if you ask me!
Imagine a steady McD out there instead of Campoli or Diaz.
Hence, I would refrain from using a US highschool defenceman as a synonym for a wasted draft pick.
I’m just happy they didn’t do anything stupid like trade away Pleks…
XXIV…and counting
What are we going to do with Gomez? Realistically? Minors, Pay-off, now way in hell we trade him.
I hear rumblings that in the next CBA, there might be a get out of jail free card a la previous CBA where for a small period of time, teams can buy out 1 contract without a cap hit. Gomez might be the poster child but every team has their bad contact so let’s hope that goes through!
I think the best we saw right now from Gomez are his last 2 goals he made for $7,357,143. Gotta love that contract!
Just checked cap geek. Next year we have $44.732mil commited to 13 players. Assuming the cap stays put we have 20mil to re-sign:
Carey Price, P.K. Subban, Alexei Emelin, Raphael Diaz, Travis Moen, Lars Eller, Ryan White, and a couple 4th liners like Darche, Blunden, etc. That should be plenty of room to account for those guys including any raises.
If we can rid ourselves of Gomez, we have the cap room to make a serious run at Zach Parise or Ryan Suter. If we can find a taker for Kaberle, then we can add another good piece (top 6 forward, or top 4 D).
- Honestly yours
Gomez is the conundrum of this team! If I were Molson, the best solution is to send him to the minors instead of a buyout.
I think the only way the Habs buyout Gomez is if the new CBA allows a one time buyout which doesn’t carry with it the prolonged caphit which a buyout today carry. Otherwise, yes a buyout under the current CBA would carry a longterm hit against our Caphit.
free agency will depend on where we finish and how the young players play the rest of the year. if we get a top 3 pick and that player is ready for the NHL it limits the roster spots straight up. ig players like Giffy Popcorn ( Blake Geoffrion ) makw a splash , they may go with an all young team , i would love to see it but we need to get rid of Gomer to do anything good
At this point, the only postive is that we get to see what Geoffrion is going to do and how he is going to play. To me, he just seems like a younger Darche and nothing more. Maybe i’m wrong, I guess well wait and see…
”Dad who’s that idiot on tv?”
‘oh son, thats Pierre Gauthier”
I’m seeing some of the people here are not too happy with the Kostitsyn trade since what Nashville did is give the Habs a 2nd round draft pick for 2013. However, if we look at the bright side, the Habs now have a $16,606,904 available (according to Capgeek.com) on their Max Cap Hit. It all depends now as to how they will spend that come postseason.
I believe the Habs are going to roll the dice here come draft day in Pittsburgh and make some big moves. I’m looking at the possibility that the Habs also might end up getting either 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pick in the 1st round. Our best bet is either Grigorenko or Forsberg as an asset MUST HAVE!
Probably after that, then Molson (and his NEW management) will begin the task of putting the kinks of rebuilding this team. They better not f*ck this up because I think if they restructure this team properly, the Canadiens could be cup contenders next year and not after 2-5 years.
EDIT: If the rumours were that Plekanec, White, Weber and Subban have been a part of the potential trades along with Moen and Darche during this last deadline, expect those people I mentioned first to be shopped come summertime if the Habs really want to rebuild this team.
From what I heard just from forums and friends really into prospects, Grigorenko is very talented but has some motivational issues (hmmmm doesn’t that ring a bell?). Forsberg is good but might not have the true top end talent to be a star. Galchenyuk is good but has been injured all season.
I think this might a Yakupov or bust kind of draft. Although if Roy were to join the front office or coaching staff, it’d be a good story drafting Grigorenko who currently plays for Roy but it could also be a bad story 5 years down the line.
I would love to have Yakupov here. However, since CBJ are the front runners, its unlikely that we’ll have him.
Also, I’m starting to believe the upcoming prospects in this year’s draft may not be the type of quality players a franchise needs. I’m not saying they’re bad players, but the hype surrounding the top 2 Russian prospects might not be what we hope to be when they do get to the NHL. The best way for the Habs to work out this hump is to either look for a UFA. If i’m not mistaken, Parise or Brown (possibly Nash) are the next top players for purchase. If the Habs can get Brown to get here, then they’re getting a value forward to work for the team.
Being from LA, I’m familiar with Brown. He’s good but I wouldn’t put him in the same class as Parise or Nash. (Also I think he’s signed still so we’d have to trade for him). He’s a character guy but he just doesn’t have that top end sniper skill. I would say he’s a younger and maybe slightly better Cole. (Which pretty good but not someone you’d bank to turn around a franchise)
listening to PG , he is an idiot , sounds like a great employee , but terible leader
He’s not a leader.
It’s irritating how condescending he is for a guy with such a poor track record (and equally poor communication skills).
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
i was wathing RDS and he looks like he has aged 20 years overnight , at the end everyone walked away and he just stood there for a second , pretty funny
I hope and pray he gets canned in the off season we need a real GM going forward
I am inclined to believe that with the cap savings from ridding the team of Cammalleri and Kostitsyn and the presumed elimination of Gomez will result in a run at a top end free agent. This team is suddenly rich in cap space, despite any return of Markov and the necessary re-signings of Price and Subban.
I would not be surprised to find the Habs make a large offer, even an overpayment to Zach Parisé. Yes, he is not big, but he does not play like a coward, and we desperately need a bonafide goal scorer. Picture:
Pacioretty – Desharnais – Cole
Parisé – Plekanec – Gionta
Leblanc – Eller – Bourque
and some combination of White, Geoffrion, Moen, Darche, Blunden.
The defense will still need an infusion of size and force, but optimistically going in with Markov, Subban, Gorges, Emelin, and Diaz for starters with Kaberle and Weber in some role is not bad.
Again, yes they could use a brute defense-first guy in there, and maybe we’ll be surprised by another signing or someone like Nash finally getting the call. He can’t be worse than Campoli.
I wish it were true
CH = Les Glorieux!!!
I can’t see Darche back next season. Thoughts?
CH = Les Glorieux!!!
He’ll be back…good role player and can kill penalties…plus he can dig in the corners.
players like him are the problem with the team , lots of heart , no skill to go with it , i hope hes not back
I don’t think it hurts to keep him around at such a dirt cheap price as a role-playing fill in. You could probably have him for the league minimum, as I don’t see that he would have any interest in moving away from home again with his family situation and all. If the guy plays 25-35 games for 700,000, I don’t think it breaks the bank. You know what you are getting.
u can dream up all the great potential line-ups u like, as u just saw PG ain’t interested in improving our team with the Parise’s of the world i wonder if he even know’s who’s available or how to bargain for players or even if he wants to what a troll
Yes, I bet he purposely picked the lowest offer we got.
Why is it so hard to imagine him pursuing Parisé? He went after Cole who was the best available winger and rumors abound that they went after Richards, the best available Center, but he was set on NYR.
There was no one else. They are not just going to sit on $6-8 mil in open cap space if Gomez is out of the equation.
Parise has been a lot more effective at centre so that will have to be addressed. I think they will be adding an experienced shut down D or Tinordi might get the call…Nash will never see the NHL on a regular basis. I see Parise replacing Pleckanec…but you never know. I don’t they would spend 8 mill on a centre and force him to play LW. Like I said … better at centre.
What if they resign Stuabitz in the off season ? Maybe to a two way contract. Might be good as a fourth line basher that can drop back on D if needed.
Given the high taxes in Quebec, plus media scrutiny in two languages and the current circus in the front office, why would any free agent want to sign with the Habs? It is not like the Stanley Cup is just around the corner. It will be very, very, very hard to get a free agent this summer. The rebuild will have to be done through the draft and by trades.
If we had a decent GM I would be saying that we are in good shape at the draft to do some wheelin and dealin but i have this reoccuring nightmare about the habs getting the 2nd overall pick and hearing Bob Mackenzie say that they have picked from off the board of an American highschool defencemen.
Regardless we have a good stockpile of picks that can be used to trade up or pick at a decent position. Probably looking for some decent D in the summer to help. A top 4 and a bottom pairing PK guy probably. Weber’s days are numbered guy can’t cut the defensive game and has been a disappointment in his career with us. The good thing is that he is a utility player and some teams who want to take a chance on a guy like that to shore up prospect pools or are really in need of a bottom pairing Dman. Campoli isn’t resigned so your D look like this….Gorges, Markov (lets just hope), Diaz, PK, emelin. Oh wait I forgot about Kaberle…oy….well more than likely he is let go if Markov comes back i.e. traded for like a 5th rounder…tell you the truth I don’t really care.
I think our forward crew needs a top 6 guy and if we can shore up our D things might be so bad next year. The big thing is if Gallagher and Tinordi can come in. Beaulieu isn’t ready yet…offensive Dman need some time in the minors. Tinordi is big enough and if he can get his positioning down he could be a great addition next year. Gallagher could help out on the third line but may spend next year in the minors.
More than likely Gomez in bought out. I can’t see him coming back for what was a bad bounce back campaign. He is a veteran and there is no way whatsoever that he will be sent to the minors…never happen. This will be a test of Molson’s committment to the team i.e. pony up his pocket book and buy out Gomez. Its gonna be interesting.
Well if the American high school defenseman was Chris Chelios it would not be so bad. He was the last great defenseman to wear the Bleu, Blanc, Rouge.
I don’t get why they sent down LL. I’m sure the can have both up. Just sit one of the useless chumps. Oh wait. AK is gone.
LL hasnt looked good in his recent call-up but then again he has been used inconsistently.
Geoffrion called up. Just announced by PG.
Press conference is on 990 right now.
- Honestly yours
So Howson said it was Rick Nash who asked for trade. That franchise has been brutal since day 1.
Nash is becoming the sequel to Dany Heatley.
- Honestly yours
I think this is a bit different, while i think Nash is slightly over rated, he has been a good foot soldier to the team until now. Heatley is a complete different head case.
I just think that GM Howson is trying harder than PG right now to save his job and is actually just measuring out the rope for his own noose.
Anyone gives any credence to the report, (i first heard of it yesterday) that HABS had a deal in works for Gomez last year and Gomez exercised his no trade rights.
heard that , was to NYI , if true
Has the ghost come out of hiding long enough to do a press conference yet?
So Gill and Kostitsyn are gone. Campoli will be out as well. I presume they will try to resign Moen, and probably Darche (the Habs love their Darche). You have to think Gomez is gone. So next year>
Cole – DD – Pacioretty
Bourque – Plekanec – Gionta
Leblanc – Eller – Moen
Blunden – White – Darche
Markov – Emelin
Subban – Gorges
Kaberle – Diaz/Weber
Funny, it’s not that bad-looking a team on paper … but it hasn’t been much this year.
I really think this year has been a freak occurrence. Everything went wrong. And the blown leads … that’s psychological to a great extent. There’s no belief in that room.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Where’s Staubitz!
They’ll sign guys on D…no way they go in again with Diaz/Weber….nice guys but we already have two puck moving d-men.
—————-
McGuire for GM!
Roy for Coach!
Sh*t for Brains!
I dont think Kaberle is coming out of the summer with us…Weber is gone for sure.
No Yakupov?
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
I’d also be happy with Grigorenko…
XXIV…and counting
This looks better:
Pacioretty – Plekanec – Gionta
Bourque – Eller – Cole
DD – Grigorenko – Leblanc
Moen – Geoffrion – White
Markov – Gorges
Emelin – Subban
? ? ? – Diaz
Some draft lottery luck, then we sign a big physical dman with experience to play with Diaz and things suddenly look pretty decent.
Leblanc will be given a centre position next year so …. I like Geofrion instead of noki but he better get better on faceoffs. Why is DD on the wing…apparently you didn’t watch the games this year when he was playing with Cole and Patch…you know when they were dominating games….REally!!! This ain’t EA sports…can’t plug em wehre you want em.
Look, that´s because I have Grigorenko in. So you shouldn´t take that too serious but yes, I would rather play him as a winger than Eller. With Plekanec, Eller, DD, there´s no place at center for Leblanc even if we don´t draft a center who can play NHL hockey right away.
Thats why you trade Pleks for McDonaugh, straight up. If needed, throw in Weber or Diaz.
Oh do I agree! No offense to DD, and I shudder to think of this year’s team without him, but going forward let’s not kid ourselves into thinking he is a bona-fide #1 centre in the NHL. With small Gionta and small Gallagher and small DD next year’s team will be as poor as this years. Best to see DD either as 3rd line winger or trade in a package with Campoli or either or both of the Swiss guys, Bourge, Kaberle etc. All are ok players but no stars among them. On a team already bereft of size and talent keeping warm bodies just becasue they’re breathers isnt enough.,
I would not plan the parade with that lineup.
bill. no way does that defense start…still soft.
looks good? actually looks just as terrible as the team this year…need some real toughness – the entire league thinks the Habs are a bunch of pansies and they are right…way too easy to play against….and a team that blows the leads like we did this year has no character…no finish….go ahead and keep 95% of them into the next year.
I think the big winner today was The Gazette and HI/O, almost 1,300 posts on a non game day.
Imagine if the server hadn’t crashed numerous times during the day. We’d be at over 2000 by now.
If the Gazette isn’t lining a bird cage on any given day it’s winning.
So as far as I can see, Johnny F*ing Oduya gets more return than AK. Fat head Burke gets Carter Ashton for a Fourth round pick in Aulie, and we get a second rounder for AK.
PG sucks.
Once again, the Kaberle deal should have gotten him canned the very next day.
I could not agree with you more — PG lacks the skills necessary to negotiate trades and evaluate players. 90% of those on this board knew the Kaberle trade was awful the day he made it.
It’s hard to come to grips with the fact that my team is going to suck balls for at least 2 years…
But think of all the wailing that will be going on and how many coaches and GM’s the posters will want fired.

Hockey Futures updated Habs prospects (for those who need some good news);
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/13817/nathan_beaulieu_remains_number_one_prospect_in_montreal_top20/
Hopefully they WILL play Weber every game for the rest of the season and give him the experience he needs to be a good D. I say sit Campoli and don’t play him since he’s not a part of this franchises future. PLAY THE KIDS!!
Absolutely! Campoli literally has NO value to us now. None what-so-ever. Unless our mgmt. actually plans on retaining him for next season (which better not be the case or I’ll puke) he’s even less valuable than the guy who hands players towels on the bench.
- Honestly yours
Did you ever think for one second that no one else wanted him either? I suppose that’s PG’s fault as well? You or anybody else on the board has no idea if he or any other player that we wanted gone was offered or not!
“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” Albert Einstein
Just reading some of the comments I missed in here while at work.
I didn’t realize the asylum gave ‘free computer time’ on Trade Deadline Day.
They do that 24/7. Today they just reset the home page to HIO. Favor to Boone.
FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER
What can we expect from our dim GM. Notwithstanding that this is the time to sell high, we traded away a 25 (potential 30 goal) scorer to the Preds for only a 2nd round draft choice. Not even a bona fide actual prospect was received in exchange. Did Gauthier actually SHOP his player, or instead did he take the Cammy approach and trade his player to the first offer?
Kudos to Cunneyworth for assisting in the diminishing of AK46′s value by benching him or not playing him in the weeks leading up to this trade.
This storied franchise continues to sink.
FIRE Gauthier, FIRE Cunneyworth.
The notion that a team can “showcase” a player with almost 400 games experience in the NHL is pretty ridiculous. Every single GM know precisely what Kostitsyn brings to his game – 20 goals, 20 assists with long stretches of invisibility.
Let’s not make him out to be a superstar now…
AK46 is a 20-30 goal scorer, check the stats. At this time of the year, that warrans more than a 2nd round pick. Gill was playing 10 minutes a game, and yet we got more for him. Come on TO Habs Fan — think more critically.
I checked the stats. AK scored 30 goals exactly ZERO times in his career. He is not a 30 goal scorer, never has been. He may not even be a 20 goal scorer anymore, he won’t get there this year. One dimentional player and his one dimention is going in reverse. PG didn’t get more than a 2nd for him because everyone in the league knows he under performs.
I am utterly dumbfounded that you think Hal Gill warrants more on the market than AK46.
I suppose you felt Kaberle was a good addition to the team……..Wow!
You really think there was a bidding war is the waiting for an underachieving lazy forward? I think PG probably took the best offer.
Agreed 100%
CH = Les Glorieux!!!
You really think PG is smart enough to have actively shopped AK? Something tells me not — after all, he is the guy who brought Kaberle to Mtl……
Listen man! I offered you the job and you turned it down so quit complaining about the second choice. Remember you caused this mess…
PS; he was actually 5th choice but mum’s the word.
We are set to get a VERY good player, probably a forward, in this year’s draft! We are slated to pick 3rd overall at the moment.
If we end up with Yakupov, Grigorenko or Forsberg…we’re laughing!
Next year will be a crap shoot and we’ll see what happens. But the Habs future is looking pretty decent.
Hey! Stop that!! No positive comments allowed!!!
But I agree 100% !!!!!
yeah when we draft them. It wont be long until the media and fans in Montreal to chase them out of town.
Carey Price #31
ignore
Ah dammit. I tried to ignore this, but I couldn’t help myself.

Turn on the tank, the party’s over…
I know everyone thinks David (One Playoff Win in 10 years) Poile is a genius but here’s what he’s done:
Traded away 5 of his 6 top-2 draft picks for 2011-2013 for
* Mike Fisher (a decent 50pt scorer and a leader but now 32)
* Hal Gill (who cannot play a regular shift)
* AK46
* Paul Gaustad
The last three all being rentals.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Think he realizes that this is his only shot at going deep in the playoffs? Sure seems to be mortgaging a lot of future (knowing he has to let some pretty significant pieces walk in the summer)
I am going to laugh when St. Louis eliminates them in the 1st round.
It’s sorta ironic how the big splashy moves rarely pan out, while the lesser ones do – I really do think that without Peverley and Kelly on their 3rd line, Boston doesn’t get out of the 1st round last year.
Seems to me a team much closer to home gave up their depth for a chance at going deep into the playoffs, and look at how that turned out.
I want a team full of players about whom I don’t ever have to write “if only the coach would use him correctly” or “if only he were motivated.”
Today, I am one step closer to being a fan of that team.
An underwhelming day all-round, both for the Habs and league-wide. Thanks to Boone for his blogging – it made the day a little more bearable. Not many jobs where you watch TV all day and have a laugh. At least management didn’t do anything stupid. Like trade Plekanec. The proof in the pudding will be in the off-season and the draft. I anticipate Moen is re-signed, if not, bad asset management as the pundits say. Gomez has to be a goner (bought out, clears waivers, or otherwise disappears); if not, I won’t watch next season. Kaberle has to go too, he epitomizes everything I hate in a professional athlete: marginally talented, overpaid, listless and a former Leaf/Bruin. Needless to say Gauthier needs to be shown the door. You can’t be the GM of the Montreal Canadiens, finish in the bottom 5, and expect to still have your job. By any measure this season was an abject failure and the person ultimately responsible for this is Pierre Gauthier. Let’s get new blood in management with common sense, patience, a plan, and a god damn clue.
Going to be a long summer! and a very tough next couple of years.
We will build through the draft, really that’s the only way to go.
We have the best scouting department in the NHL and we are accumulating a nice pile of early draft picks. With some of our kids coming out of junior and the college ranks next year. Hamilton will be in much better shape.
Our Habs will flounder for a couple of years waiting for the new crop to develop. The kids will slowly replace our dead wood contracts over the next couple of years and we will become a more respectable product on the ice.
All this will happen over time, and with patience, but under what GM and coaching is still to be determined.
Now that’s the most important decision for the future of this franchise.
I think you’ll see the Habs try and shore up their defense a bit over the summer and will be able to make things somewhat interesting next year.
But yeah, the real team will start to take shape when Gallagher, Tinordi, Beaulieau, Bournival, 1st round 2012, 2nd round 2012, and Leblanc start making an impact.
We have drafted well the past few years HOBIE. And we will rebuild over the next few years with solid picks.
The best scouting department in the NHL, that seems a stretch really.
Not at all! It is the only dept. that is a winner in the whole franchise, except for the Penalty Kill.
Pierre McGuire and Larry Robinson. I heard McGuire detail the history of the guy we acquired on waiver… convinces more we need his compendium of player knowledge in Mtl.
Mcguire is a hothead emotinal man and makes statements and a living on being emotional. I want a knowledgeable, stand up, classy GM with a good hockey IQ i.e. played in the league. Not an emotional guy who would make knee jerk and bad decisions on roster players based on emotion. We don’t need Brian Burke. We need a Ken Holland type guy or a Kevin Lowe. I agree with LR though…you and I have been saying this along time.
Read this … http://articles.courant.com/1994-05-21/features/9405210429_1_pierre-mcguire-whalers-general-manager-paul-holmgren
Jim, the post of the day. Hope all read!!!!!!!!!
Frightening and seemingly too full of ‘evidence’ for me to dismiss. As I said in my post yesterday, I came to the conclusion that McGuire is the best option for us only recently. While this “1994″ article frightens me I cannot say that it has changed my mind… I sincerely believe that he is the best choice among all the truly potential candidates…. and I dont include anyone who is not bilingual.
Added: Whoever is the new GM better get a staff with the vast knowledge of players in all levels and also as wide, varied and deep contacts as McGuire has. The new reality of the NHL means you really need a GM who is a hockey encyclopaedia… or puts together a staff wih that effect.
.
Jameson, I’m hoping for some fresh young blood with BriseBois or Loiselle . Both Asst GM’s, bilingual, lawyers and smart.
We don’t have much of a team for the rest of the season do we?
Our forward lines other than the DD line will be some mix of:
Bourque – Plex – Darche
Staublitz – Gomez – White
Leblanc – Eller – Palushaj
It’s going to be ugly.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Most likely….but it was already ugly, no?
I’d like to see Geoffrion get a call-up even if it’s only a brief one.

Same here and use Weber as a forward and the new guy on defense.. a different element on defense.
you think staublitz is playing forward… maybe… i guess we will see
I believe he’s used as a forward.

It is a perfect lineup! The more we lose the better!
It´s time to break up the DD line. Let´s see what he could do on the third line without our two best wingers and let´s also see what Eller could do with two decent wingers and pp time.
You know that DD has earned his spot, right?
That´s absolutely not the point. We should be preparing our future and we know DD can do a job with Cole and MaxPac but we don´t know what he could do with lesser wingers and we don´t know what Eller could do with better ones and pp time. Maybe we can get worse and “catch” the Oilers…
Wait, tanking? My apologies then, sir. Sign me up!
can’t get much uglier
What do you mean it is going to be ugly? It has been ugly since October.
So what else did you all expect? Trading steaming piles of unwanted leftovers for draft picks? At least most other forms of solid waste can be turned into fertilizer.

Lost a bottle of Kraken during this debacle of a season. Better gettem next year.
I’m sure we could have got something for Campoli from a team looking for offensive depth on D. We all know he’s played poorly, but I’m sure we would have taken anything for him, even a 5th round pick or worse.
That pick MAY have turned into nothing, but keeping Campoli for the remaining 19 games of a season where we aren’t making the playoffs is certainly nothing. Therefore, we missed out.

Any news as to who our new GM and coach are going to be? Any rumors out there?
Pierre McGuire and Larry Robinson.
I am not a huge follower of the KHL, but maybe we look there for a number 1 centre in the summer???
it would also appear from you constant posts today that you don’t know much about the NHL either.
Harsh… But probably true
anyone who screams because PG can’t move Kaberle, Campoli or Gomez deserves it.
Judging on Gaustad for a 1st rounder this year, I have to conclude that the Habs could have gotten more for AK if they’d played it out until the end of the day.

Gauthier had his Yoga class after lunch though, would’ve screwed his day.

That is possible, I thought the same thing. But at the same time Nashville way overpaid.
My guess is that the number of team bidding on Gaustad FAR exceeded the number of teams that wanted Andrei Kostitsyn.
Exactly
That is probably true, but still … a 2nd rounder in two years … never know if someone might’ve gotten a little more interested. Prices in general did go up as the day went on.
I’m sure Buffalo could have traded Gaustad for a 2nd rounder this morning, you know?

That is a solid conclusion, Bill………which is unfortunate for the Habs. Now, I do think the Preds overpaid for Gill so maybe that was part of the consideration, or maybe it was all part of the Gill trade to begin with but was done as a separate trade.

At the end of the day, a pig is still a pig, no matter how you try to dress it up. Habs had been shopping AK and Campoli for over a month and the only one PG could move was AK. At least there is some kind of return.
