The Canadiens blew leads of 1-0 and 3-1 in regulation time.
But goals by Alex Galcheyuk and Lars Eller won the Shootout and kept the Canadiens atop the Eastern Conference standings, where they’ve been for 21 days.
Ottawa had three shots in the third period … one of which was Patrick Wiercioch’s very stoppable “drive” that went through Carey Price’s legs.
Robin Lehrer was bombarded with 45 shots … kind of like Ben Bishop the last time.
The Canadiens got goals from Lars Eller and, on the power play, Brendan Gallagher and P.K. Subban in regulation.
Ottawa scorers were Mika Zibanejad, Daniel F. Alfredsson and Wiercioch.
Price made 29 saves in regulation and two in the Shootout (Daniel F. and Kyle Turris).
Ottawa outhit the home team by a whopping 39-18.
The Shootout
Galchenyuk: GOAL! Shelf Daddy after six moves
Daniel F.: Save
DD: Save
Silfverberg: Beautiful goal
Eller: GOAL!
Turris: SAVE!!

Who counts the hits?:
Surprised to look at the box score stats and see zero hits beside Emelin’s name. Pretty sure that he knocked at least one Senator clear off his feet.If the statistician cannot even count to one maybe he is in the wrong profession.

Long time lurker – 1st time post.
Great bunch of true fans on this sight… it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintances!
Some quick observations:
- Galchenyuk should use his world-class shot more.
- Prust is a fantastic addition but imagine if he didn’t have to drop the gloves every second/third game…. a Parros or a Crombeen would be welcomed for the present and in the playoffs. I’m disappointed with Moen this year.
- Eller will be the best 3rd centre in the NHL in the very near future and for many years to to come.
- When Gally, Tinordi and Eller fill in a little more… watch out!
Long live the Habs.

Thanks Man! Like your sign-off, it appears that we may be signing off on another white banner for the 25th… wouldn’t that be wicked?
At last count, 2,236 voters don’t believe this team can win the east. That’s amazing. I don’t know what you 2,236 are watchin but there’s no doubt in my mind about this team. Damn right, they can win the east and yeah, I’ll say it again, they can win the whole thing. It’s certainly not a lock, but I can see it happening. And for all those who complain about 4th line lack of scoring, are you folks serious or do you just like pullin people’s chains? Anyone bitching about goal production from the 4th line just likes to bitch.
What gets me is that the question is not even ” do you think they WILL win the East”. It’s only “can they”. No freaking respect.

Buy the way, I think that Gallagher owes Pacioretty another dinner for stealing his goal tonight.

actually Gallagher deserved the goal anyhway…it was him occupying two dmen in the crease that created the space…both dman were draped on his back….
Gally in the crease, Ryder in the slot, Subban on point, markov dropping down low…really starting to make other teams pick their poisons…so much variety ont he team and different guys all with roles and niches and certain things they contribute
Let the 4 year old stay up to watch…sorry everyone…my fault it went to a shootout. He told me at 3-1 the Sens would tie it…but he said the Habs would score, the Sens would score and the Habs would win in a shootout…and game would end 5-4. He didn’t understand that shootout goals don’t count on the score..aside from that little misunderstanding he nailed it at 3-1. Was his first whole game to watch ending in shootout win….awesome to see Galchenyuk and Eller (2 household favourites) bury in the SO.
Eller, Subban Patches, Gallagher, etc….what a future.
Price..meh…it happens…you could see a weak one coming there too as he misplayed a couple of long shots and a couple rebounds went off him and went in the air and he had no idea where they were….he was off from very early..no biggie.
Dumont…I never thought he was capable…but he is…he has a little bit of offense and a ton of fight in him. He was not the least bit hesitant to step in for Galchenyuk or anyone else..even against Neil or Smith…good on him.
Markov playing 30 minutes….with Diaz out and with 6 pp minutes in the third and the overtime and 4 on 4 he played a lot but they were not tough minutes and this is a light stretch in the sched..no worries there either.
Ryder uses the points about as well as anyone on the team….
The team played a great possession game once again…evwn when they were “missing passes”…it was them missing passes and not chasing Sens…Habs had the puck all night…was a more dominant performance than score indicated.
Since nobody else bothered to comment, good post IMO

I’m glad the Habs got the 2-points but. Shootouts is a joke not a win.which ever team is the luckiest in the shootout gets 2-points.
All I’m saying. They’re be no lucky shootout chances in the playoffs.
a weak team may make it in but the lucky shootout won’t help them than …. it’ll be a team thing all the way and that’s the way it should be all season.
I been reading a lot of gibberish about trading Price and all I gotta say is stop drinking the kool-aid.
I’ll repost something:
Yes Price’s GAA and sv% have taken a beating as of late. Yet the Habs train is still rolling. I am sure Patrick Roy is in his corner. No need to fret. Price can step it up.
Goaltending is still the streakiest position in all of sports. We just gotta hope he hits his zone come play-off time.
The thing is with Price you have a better chance that he will hit his stride and get into the zone. You’ll know what I mean if you saw Roy win 4 Cups and 3 Conn Smythe trophies and still let in 9 goals against the Red Wings in a game.
Give it up. The last person on the Habs getting traded is Carey Price.
If you eliminate Price’s two worst games, the Toronto game and the Pittsburgh game, then Price’s GAA drops to 2.05, which is top 5 in the league. Stats can never tell you everything.
to be fair, you’d have to drop all other goalies’ two worst games as well…and then see where he lands.
Exactly. Price is a good goalie. In fact he is a tremendous average goalie. Stats do not tell us everything, but they do not lie either. Should we have kept Gomez? So he doesn’t produce points, big deal ! He was apparently great in the room.
Stats do not say it all, but they are the best measuring stick we have. He has only been in the top 10 once in his short career. He has great potential and should develop into a great goalie. But as of yet. we have not seen anything above average.
G
Most important stat is that he is winning games. Excellent goalie.
Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, not illumination.
Before the Pittsburgh game, followed by the Isles game ( 12 goals in 2 games ), the guy was #1 in W’s, top 5 in GAA, and I think 8th in save percentage, tied for 3rd in shutouts, and also top 10 in shootout percentage for goaltenders. Now 11 days later the guy sucks while the team keeps winning. I am dumbfounded by some on here. Name 1 goaltender that has ever played the game, that hasn’t gone thru a week or 2 stretch that he had some confidence issues. During that time, BTW, he stood on his head against Carolina and possibly stole a game, which many have said he hasn’t done all year.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
I am not satisfied. Now that they are #1, they need to win, dominate, and play with style. PK can play 30 minutes, but he must not make a mistake. Price can lead the league in wins, but he must never give up a soft goal. Gorges is playing like crap, I think we should trade him and a first round pick for Craig Rivet. He just isn’t living up to his potential as an undrafted top 4 defenseman. Markov has obviously lost a step and should be put out to pasture. Galchenyuk is clearly not living up to the hype, he hasn’t score in like 5 games! What, is he going to wait until his twenties to lead the league in scoring? Too late! Eller for Halak, horrible trade! He is at best a mediocre third-line center with size and hands. I mean, he’s not even any better than those two worthless chumps, Plekanek and Desharnais! The team clearly has an issue with having too many forwards to play and not enough spaces. Bergevin is to blame for that little management snafu. And Therien! His choice in ties are so bland! Just like his personality! We need a fiery coach! One who will motivate the team with his between period red-faced screeching.
Spring is almost here and the Habs will be in the playoffs. Smell the roses.
Lost me in your 1st 2 sentences, but then I got where you were going. Agreed! Why all the biatchen when we win and Are doing so freaking great?

Till next time….
I want a real win or a tie. No shootout win because it’s not a playoff thing.
I don’t want you to read into this wrong. I’m more than happy the Habs got the 2-points. This won’t happen in the playoffs (No shootout) and that is what concerns me.
You have to be a good enough team to win in regulation or over time. Bottom-line.
Holy crap reading some comments here you would be convinced we lost. WTF do some of you want?
I’m currently re-watching the game on Canadiens Express just to make sure that we indeed won tonight.

Some news guy tweeted Habs might be making a trade for Montador… Take that FWIW
So the team came off an extended road trip and we got Two points! Why is this a bad thing? Ottawa lost a point to us, and other teams lat two points. This was a good result
Have you all noticed even in PK’s off ice interviews, he seem less flamboyant this year, Hope Subban is able to just be himself and not some self imposed less colorful personal;ity
You’re right, I kinda feel uneasy about it.
He should follow the team’s advice on how to play on the ice. But I don’t think he needs to need to change his personality or pretend to be another boring guy. Unless that’s what becoming a better person looks like -) ?
I’m thinking the new management and coaching staff has talked to him regarding some things he says in interviews. After the Rangers game when Torts was saying we were boring, PK says “that’s great, if they are saying that, then obviously teams are noticing and discussing our system”. When MT was asked about PK’s comments, he basically said no comment. Now the other night, PK said in an interview ” we are one of the best teams in the league”.
I’m thinking MT and MB don’t want him saying things like this in the media because it’s poking the bear and giving opposing teams more incentive to want to beat us.

although it’s fun to make fun of bryz, man i feel bad for that goalie! the flyers play defence like bantam players… absolutely awful. its a team of give away machines.
as for price. it’s a good thing he is not stealing games, he doesn’t need to. Ya he let in 1 questionable goal (from an all star player) and a weak one. But point me out a goalie that has never let in a weak goal. He is not the best (due to consistency issues) but it can be much much much worst.
I’m kind of with you on this. But then today he goes and says “if we lose both games against NJ we’re finished”. You just don’t do that. If Snyder had the gonads he’d buy him out.
maybe he was trying to pump his team up… kind of like the Messier: we will win quote.
I mean this goalie is on an island. it’s ridiculous. These types of teams really kill goalies. The confidence and stats.
The passing, icings, and miscues out there tonight was something to behold by both teams.
It was like watching the key stone cops! at times, the power play worked, and was a disaster at times. Sometimes we took the game to them, and looked good. But it was a very frustrating game to watch.
Anyway, we were lucky to bank another 2 points.
Why were we lucky? I am a firm believer you make your luck, we were the better team all night! Ottawa is a Damn good team! We weren’t playing the bloody Bluejackets! Fail to understand all the complaining tonight.
We were the better team for sure, but 10 icings is a bit much. Even PK was fighting the puck again, and was on his butt a lot. I love the guy! just saying. A lot of turn overs and I thought sloppy play at times by both teams. Being a little critical I know! Sure don’t like giving up the lead.
Team just came off a big road trip, normally a letdown. We will be better next game.
Rough stretch for Carey, without a doubt, but let’s put this into perspective: If MA Fleury can win a Stanley Cup, so can Price.
Perspective is too much for some people. According to their logic the Kings should dump Jonathan Quick too…
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
I think you cant take all of that jazz away from Subban he is playing somewhat more simple. but if you have Secretariat in your stable, you have to let him run, just let him go at times and reap the rewards
Bouillon vs. Neil would’ve been fun to watch.
“In God we Prust!”
Frankie the Bull would have gotten killed. Gotta love him though for not backing down.
The tough little bugger wouldn’t have been trying to hold on though, he’d be tossing them as best he could.
Don’t forget Dumont who stuck his nose in immediately.
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Right now is there a Canadian goalie you would feel comfortable with playing a game 7 or a deciding overtime game…very few have come up big in pressure playoff games the last few years…
Having just read an article suggesting that Florida was about to sell everyone, I decided to look and see who might be a good fit for the Habs. And so I’m curious to see what others think about… Jerred Smithson.
Here’s my thinking: We don’t currently need to add top offensive talent (though it may depend on injuries), but could use a bit extra size. He doesn’t seem to fight much (low PIM guy), but is 6’3″, 209 lbs and he has a decent number of hits (37th in the league, 1 behind Prust). He is a 4th line guy, plays just over 10min per game, and certainly not high scoring.
He’s Florida’s #1 PK forward, which doesn’t mean much since they’re 30th in the league, but he wouldn’t be #1 for us, so that’s probably okay. He’s the top forward on Florida in blocked shots, but that’s just 19.
He’s got an 800k cap hit, is a UFA in the summer and he’s 34 (so he shouldn’t cost much in the way of picks/prospects).
What intrigues me most is that he’s listed as a Right Winger on nhl.com, but he’s 4th on the team in total faceoffs and has won 53% of them. Obviously that’s a weak point for us right now.
I’ve seen plenty of people suggesting we need to improve depth if we want to make a playoff run, rather than chasing a big name. Smithson might be the kind of penalty killing, faceoff winning, big body that we could really use. -shrug-, just a thought.
Note: part of my reasoning is based on the idea that Bergevin won’t want to sell the farm and won’t want to strongly alter chemistry. As well, take into account who might be available. Most teams are still in the playoff hunt afterall…
We really need to think on a bigger scale of we are looking to upgrade any one of our positions, right now..
——————
Brandon Prust doesn’t have hair on his testicles, because hair does not grow on steel….
Reasonable suggestion but if everybody is healthy, I’m not sure there is room (especially if they keep Dumont).
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Who would you cut/send down/trade for him? And please don’t say Moen. Would you trade a third rounder for him? If so, who do you send down?
If it’s late enough in the season, no one needs be sent down. After the trade deadline, if I recall correctly, they can carry more bodies.
If it’s too early, and we need to clear a roster spot, then I’d say someone like Dumont who can clear waivers (though I acknowledge he has done well in his brief time up, especially on faceoffs).
Would I trade a 3rd…hmmm… maybe a conditional one (if he signs, a 3rd, if he doesn’t, a 4th, kind of thing), but I’d probably say he’s worth a 4th. What Florida would ask for is beyond me, of course, so it’s tough to comment there.
Although like everyone, I’ll happily take the points, but this was not among the best games the Habs have played. While being anything but a Price hater, the 2nd and 3rd goals were entirely stoppable. But hats off to Eller and Subban. Great night for them.
Was out for the night so PVRed the game and just got done watching. Wow. Can’t believe I avoided the 12 TVs that were on TSN where I was and made it home without knowing the score and able to start the game fresh. People in my pool league must of thought I had turrets ( not intended to offend anyone), every time, in my peripheral vision, I caught myself turning to one of the many TVs, I quickly snapped my neck in the opposite direction. Exciting game, I am sure Carey, and everyone else here, would like that early 3rd period goal back. Was very impressed with Chucky’s SO goal, kid has mad skills, but the move Eller made was amazing to me. To go from his backhand to forehand but in his skates, and to be able to roof it like that, was very impressive to me.
Anyways, 12-1-3. In the last 16 has me totally in with this team. I’m getting very excited.

Fun Fact:
PK Subban leads the NHL in goals by a defenseman with 7. He is one ahead of Brian Campbell and Erik Karlsson who both have 6.
Crazy sauce that Karlsson was still tied for the lead, until tonight.
I think Karlsson still leads the league he was playing in Europe in points for defencemen…a wonderful hockey player.

Well looks like the “long wait” with the contract was worth it!
http://nickolaisblog.wordpress.com/
But his next one is going to be a doozy. We’ll have PK with us for many years to come.
I’m loving Subban 2.0, but one thing that stood out to me tonight was that at times he wasn’t playing a simple enough game. I’m thinking of a penalty kill in the 2nd period where he had a couple of chances to flip the puck down the ice, but instead he first chose to try to get around another forechecker and ended up coughing up the puck which led to a goal.
Just a small nitpick, but also an opportunity for me to get my bitch on.

Markov was over 30 too. Pateryn was under 7. But I don’t get Gorges playing 7 minutes less than PK and Marky.
I have not been crazy about Gorges’s play this year…maybe MT isn’t either?
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Can’t disagree, but it’s unusually disproportionate. I have no clue why Pateryn played so few minutes either.
I always have championed Gorges play, but i agree he does not look as good this year, but i hope it is some injury issue that come playoff time he will be back to his reliable defensive shot blocking machine
Your right Chuck, but he was not the only culprit with the dozens of poor passes, icings and miscues out there tonight.
It was like watching the key stone cops! at times and the power play worked at times and was a disaster at times. Other times they took the game to them. Very frustrating game to watch.
Don’t remember that cough up you are referring to, but I am amazed at how PK is playing offensively to this point. Most goal scorers and point getters are streaky, but this kid is consistently doing it with 1 or 2 pts a game. The usual miss the net on the big slapper isn’t there this year and it’s obvious the coaching staff is noticing it too, because his TOI is getting back to where it was last year. Absolutely loving his game thus far.

A solid game by the team but again the pk has to be fixed as this is the part of the Habs game that i feel can cause the the Habs to lose a series where like today they outplayed the oppostion but had to go to o/t… good news only Pitt has a top 10 pp in the east of teams likely to make the playoffs
Ya let’s trade Price for an elite goaltender like Lundqvist, Rinne, Luongo, Schneider, Quick, Kipper, or Miller. There all doing great aren’t they? If your definition of ‘great’ is battling for the last playoff spot in the conference.

Oh my gosh – are you watching Markov’s play this year. He is seriously on the decline and makes WAYYYYYY too many errors.
What are you watching? He is being overplayed. He played 30 minutes..THIRTY MINUTES tonight. Of course he is going to make some mistakes. I would ask you to name me a defenceman that plays 30 minutes a game who came off missing a year and a half from a knee injury but I know you won’t. If that is not dedication then what is? Geez…

Maybe Carrey doesn’t like that the team doesn’t need him to win every game?? He’s not the MAN anymore. All he needs to do, night after night is play well enough for them to win, and, well he is doing just that. Mind you, he is giving us all heart attacks, but, how would you like to have Byrzgalov as a goalie? Now that’s a team killing gtoaltender! Personally, I think Price’s role on this team is perfect. He is not relied on night after noght to hold things together, and, he’s got a great attitude to boot. Sounds cliche, but, this IS a team game.

Two guys Canadiens should trade by next year: Price and Markov. We’ll get good value in return because most are not aware (yet) that Markov’s best days are behind him and Price will peak as a slightly above average goalie….Trade em both before word spreads to the rest of the league’s GMs.
Use the money to keep PK, he’s worth every penny. Bergevin will look foolish in 2 yrs for having turned down a long term deal w/PK at the start of this season – he’ll pay dearly.

But didn’t you say that you WOULD make this trade and that MB would find a replacement for Price?
Ummm, not too difficult to find average stats for a goalie. I say trade him the Oilers for 2 young stars (Hall and Yakupov).
Simple question: Who’s going to be the goalie after you trade Price?
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
You actually think it’s difficult to replace Price. Go look up his stats. There are approx 15 (in a 30 team league) goalies with better stats.
If he is so easy to replace then why don’t you answer the question? Give me a break…
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Go look at the league’s save % leaders, and pick any of the 21 ahead of Price plus pick any of the 5-10 behind him, I guarantee you’ll get the same or better than Price performance minus the $6.5MM we overpaid for him.
15 goalies who are better,according to you, but then you turn around and trade an average goalie(according to you) for two of the better young players in the game.
If he’s so average, wouldn’t you only get an average player back in return?
Don’t bother with logic..it does not work…
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Cuz he is so overrated. Diminishing returns, with each passing year GM’s will realize what some already know of Price’s trajectory – AVERAGE plain and simple. Trade him now and get max value and max savings.
lol, ok.
Cheer up.
Well done!!
This game shows how easily a team can lose a playoff game or series..The Habs outplayed the Senators but because of better goaltending by the Senators and poor pk by the Habs the game went into o/t…once in o/t in the playoffs it is unpredictable who wins that game
Sens goalie wasn’t that good. Better goalie won in the shoot out.

Sorry – better shooters were Eller (not Gionta Bill) and Galchenyuk. Price should never have let this game get to OT in the first place.
My 12 year old, while sitting on my lap watching the game with me said, “Eller reminds me of me and how I play”. A father could only wish!
12 years old is a bit old to be sitting on daddy’s lap…

A bit inappropriate for you to say, I think. Parent-kids rapport is not something to judge from a distance. The fact that the poster can say it in a forum like this means it is viewed as perfectly normal in that family. I see nothing that screams inappropriate there, unless you have (context) information to the contrary.
Personally, I am a parent (though of small children) and I don’t find it objectionable at all.
Agreed. That was a jacka$$ statement. Perhaps meant innocently in jest, but comments about family aren’t necessary or appropriate – on a hockey blog or anywhere for that matter.
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt though.

Thanks for saying so guys. I am dreading the day when that connection with my sons is no longer there. I’ll always be their dad and the Habs will always be the best.

***SUBBANGIN’ NOW BABY!!!***
Boone, I’m gonna nitpick with you here for a second.
In today’s NHL, nobody “blows” a 1-0 lead. You score first, then they score. That’s it. Not a blown lead, just the game progressing.
The average goals per game is between 5-6 combined goals. So 2 or 3 goal leads can be considered squandered. But not 1. Especially not 1 in the first period.
On the opposite side of that, If the other team scores in the first and then we did, and we end up winning 2-1, that’s not some dramatic comeback. Just a win.
OK, you can go back to being awesome again. Sorry for the micro critique.
EDIT: I should add, it’s fine to say they blew a one goal lead if they do so in the final 2 minutes.
So Pateryn back to the farm?Diaz and Weber injured. Kaberle back in?Or a trade coming?Too many questions,out of single malt.Freestyling with Vodka.Hola!

People who are thirsty to succeed, especially a team, will always find a way to help each other out in order to reach the goal. It is near impossible for everyone to be clicking at the same time. And for those who think that there needs to be a way…it’s not realistic. Every night there will be guys who play great and others who don’t play so great.
The Canadiens are hungry, they are thirsty. It is so apparent. Not every single player/coach will always be on the ball at all times, it doesn’t work in real life. But with the drive that they have, they can make a lot of noise. This is a good team.
Why does Eager keep coming up in rumours here?

He’s due for a 4th.
Why did Eller, after the type of game play to score that opening goal, get a whopping TWO SECONDS of powerplay time?
Just wondering.
because the other players are better?
It happens unfortunately, people were asking why Emelin wasn’t on the 2nd pp line
http://nickolaisblog.wordpress.com/
PK and Eller brilliant? Absolutely! Too bad so many posters couldn’t see their talents last year. Makes ya wonder.
Taberwitt
Never was a huge Eller fan. I always thought his support had more to do with the Halak trade than his play. Well, tonight was his coming out party, for me at least. Forget the 4 goal goffiness in Winnipeg. Tonight he played with authority. He may not have the softest hands, th shootout notwithstanding, so I’m still not sure about top 6. But, heh… to be a 3rd line centre on a Stanley Cup team is not too shabby.
Hmm, no hands? Looks like you’re still not a fan. Keep watching him, I think he’ll win you over! Personally, I find he’s been doing well this year.
hard to say he has no hands when he has as many points as the guy who gets a few minutes of PP time a game and more ice time overall.
There are not a lot of guys on pace for 50+ pts (over 82 games). Each and every one of them has “hands”.
He doesn’t have the softest hands… um, the display of soft hands, notwithstanding.
That’s pretty much it, huh?
Eller was a beast, Plex and PK were awesome. Patches and DD, Gallagher, all over the place.
…I have to say too, this was the best game I’ve seen by Moen-Armstrong-White in a longtime. But that ain’t sayin’ much.
Really, for the last 15 games these 3 guys all seem very, very, meh. Very, “are you SURE you want to play in the NHL?”

i don’t know if i would say eller was a beast tonight. i loved the shoot out move, very dirty. but that goal was a weak one let in by lehner; he found a way to make himself look reallllly small.
suban was a beast tonight though, i wonder if HIO still thinks he has to prove himself… i wonder if our GM should have considered a loneger term deal because if he keeps this pace up, wow he’ll make some serious coin
I have a feeling that Marc Bergevin will do something significant before trading deadline.
Habs are close to making a lot of noise in the post season, but not quite there yet.
Give Price credit for not crumbling after letting in that third goal. He kept his poise and was effective when it really mattered.

P. SUBBAN 30:50
A. MARKOV 30:24
G. PATERYN 6:59
All joking aside, Markov looked poor defensively. He just let that guy walk in on the third goal…no effort at all.
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
I think he thought Price could stop a 40 foot shot along the ice to the middle of the net, Markov was great tonight total leader on the ice, great moving the puck as always on the PP , no panic in d zone coverage , Markov hater i guess lol
Markov hater…no…Markov realist. He can’t play 30 minutes/game. BTW I’m not excusing Price on that play either but the old Markov would have stood that guy up on the blueline easily and you know it.
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Point taken, i agree should not play 30, but in my opinion he is still getting used to playing with his new knees and the fact he is getting older, i see him locking down his new style of play and his new limitations with age and injuries, the guy is a leader and a warrior and invaluable to the team experience going forward especially for playoff run
WOW.
They’re going to wear Markov out for the playoffs.
Hopefully,Diaz comes back soon.

Pateryn back to Hamilton.
***SUBBANGIN’ NOW BABY!!!***
I’m sensing a Pateryn there.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
At least they sent Pateryn right back to Hamilton. There was no point keeping him up here to play 7 minutes/game. Wish he was given a better shot but I guess with this season there is no room for error.
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
I liked what I saw of his little ice time. Hopefully he doesn’t turn out into one of those forgotten men that moves on to another team.
I’m thinking Bourque should be ready soon…. or trade?
IN GALLY’S WE TRUST…
One question I have for you guys…
I hear it (read it here) every day and I may have said it too, but how true is it that we are in dire need of a crease-clearing D-man or that one will make a lot of difference for our team?
The reason I ask this is Gallagher. I was watching him against Boston and have watched him against every ‘tough’ team, he’s not a big guy but always in there battling and deflecting pucks… with guys on his back a lot of times.
Is there a bigger behemoth in the league than Chara? If he can’t prevent Gallagher from playing in front of his goalie most of the time, who is it that we will find to do that for us?
I get it we should get a bit bigger on offense and defence, but this space-clearing D thing make me wonder how many goals we have allowed this year as a result of mad scrambles in the crease? My memory seems to be telling me not too many.
Gorges has nipped his flopping over Price act in the bud.
well think of it this way. if we could replace a smaller D with equal skill and add some size it wouldn’t hurt. good luck finding it though
If only Tinordi was ready to play at this level, we sure could use one big nasty d man on this team for shutdown time
ya about tinordi, i don’t know if his skating will be good enough for the nhl. atleast the few times i saw him play he didn’t look very fast.
Is it better or worst than Hal Gill?

nothing is slower than hal gill . lol
He looks a lot slower than he is because he has such a loooooong stride
Pateryn was playing well and they barely gave him a chance. I think they want someone experienced given they are in first place.

The Habs are going to put in a claim for Ben Eager. The guy can skate and Bergevin knows him from the Chicago days. He will play for the team just for the rest of this year, won’t see any action in the playoffs and won’t be resigned for next year.
He’s under contract for next year also for 1.1 million

Wasn’t Tom Nickel the guy who gave us the 100% guarantee last summer that Kane and Hjarmalsson were being traded to MTL. He had inside information. His friend works in managements head office.
Tom Nickle is Loonie.
(Hope it’s OK to reveal that.)
TomNickle, he is the guy who claims to know everything about not just hockey and the NHL but about everything in the whole wide world.
That is the guy StevieRay.
Tom Nickle = Loonie.
And yes, one and the same re: that 100% “guarantee” about big moves last yr. When it didn’t pan out, he changed his name and hoped we’d all forget about that whole debacle.

Man, Galchenyuk and Eller should almost be automatic nods for the SO at this point.

And Dumont and Gallagher together in this team, man, it’s Trafalgar meets the Guns of Navarone. Dynamite for real. The kids are a joy to watch. They finally took over this house.
And PK……..what more can you say?

“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
I feel a bit like the old scouts in moneyball talking about how a guy has an ugly girlfriend, dragging out something like this, but I’m wary of a fairly big contract to a guy who has never been to the playoffs. What if he’s cursed?!?
He’s played with the Panthers and the Flames..How is that his fault? lol
——————
Brandon Prust doesn’t have hair on his testicles, because hair does not grow on steel….
Instead of giving opinions, how about some FACTS. JayBo has played SEVEN straight 82 game/ and 25 min/gave average TOI seasons. Think about it…25 min/game for SEVEN straight years without missing ONE game. BTW he is turning 30 in the fall.

“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Marc Denis on RSD said that right before the shootout, Gally went over to Budaj and asked him whether the Sens goalie was the same one as last time. I’m not sure whether it’s true or whether he was simply joking…
~~~> Mathematically eliminated…
I hope he realized it was not, that is why i hate to hear stuff like that from reporters here-say, what i heard, but you should recognize the fact by the end of a game you are facing a different goalie from the last time you played that team,
Well, Marc Denis was right next to them.
And I wouldn’t think it strange if he’s not sure.
He’s a rookie, he’s paying attention to many more things than who the Senators goalie is, and who it was when they played last time (I can’t even remember when they played last. Two weeks ago?) because there are so many games in such a short period.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Not a bad game by the boys, Price came up big when needed. Somebody should super-glue Pacioretty’s stick to his gloves, he must’ve dropped the damn thing 5 times tonight. 2 points!
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Mike Ribeiro might be available and he’s having a pretty good year.
Subban, Eller, Galchenyuck, Pacioretty, Price are all elite talents. Plekenec, Markov, Gorges, Gionta are all top tier. Deshernais, Emelin, Diaz and Gallagher are right there. Prust, Bourque, Ryder, Moen, Bouillon, Budaj fulfill their respective roles. Armstrong never hurts them. White, Dumont, Kaberle give the team depth. I cannot remember a better Habs team. Cup contender now, and for the future.
Did Lantendress for tonight’s game, what a no show
I am gonna give Michel Therrien one unequivocal prop here. Look at what this freaking man has done. He has looked at the team and awarded the principal minutes to those who absolutely deserve it. I have RARELY seen a coach absolute dole out playing time rewards as efficiiently as he has. Not in HABS land recently anyways. And not around the league either. Look at where Eller/P.K./Gallagher are in the team now.
Anybody notice Dumont’s got a bit of that Gallagherism in him and his style. Can you imagine if he molds himself that way……OH MAN!
He had a really good game and did the heavy lifting on Eller’s goal. Gave Neil a couple of shots too, haha.
