I love Pleks. But I fear that the emergence of DD has make him expendable. Simply because we now have a really small center and an average sized center (Eller) and we need a big one for our second line. Added to which we can probably get something decent for Pleks (+ maybe a pick or prospect or Webber) and we can pay DD much less.
It’s unfortunate but it’s also the truth.

I agree, I thought Campoli played very well overall and the coaches must have agreed because they gave him over 23 minutes. He also seemed more confident. The combination of a short training camp and the injury really set him back. I doubt he is in Montreal’s plans for next year, but he is making it a tougher decision to let him walk.
I thought he played a good game too.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
I hought so too. But then ….
It’s insane to what level Cole-DD-Pacs both as a line and as players carry this team offensively. We absolutely NEED Gionta back and another scoring winger. Then we’d have a pretty solid top 9 group.
Defensively, of course, we still need that shutdown D on the 3rd pairing to compensate for Kaberle’s mistakes and defensive lapses for next year. In a couple/few years with Beaulieu and Tinordi (and hopefully a guy like Ellis), the Habs will hopefully have one of the strongest D corps in the league.
Subban – Gorges
Markov – Emelin
Kaberle – shutdown D
looks good on paper.
The other areas of concern include as you say the other top 6 forward but also IMO a meaningful 4th line, and by that I mean a real energy line, full of sand and grit, a group that can hammer the opposing D.
Yeah, Habs do need a 4th line, but I do think they have a decent one now (certainly MUCH better than the one earlier this year with Weber-Nokelainen-Darche). I think the impact of having White back and Staubitz in the lineup has been tangible.
I think a line of Staubitz (or a player like him who can contribute a bit more offensively) – White – Darche is pretty good. Now, I know a lot of people seem to want Darche off the team, but I think he’s pretty useful on the 4th line. Good defensively, good on the PK, can chip in some goals (though not as much this year).
Darche should never play another game with the Habs if we want to move forward. He should be offered a job as a player/coach in Hamilton. A great role model for the youngins but that has to be it.
I really hate to sound negative, which I do every time someone brings up Tinordi, but … what makes so many people on this site so sure he’s going to be a good NHL player? Convince me, I’d love to be convinced … but he seems like a bit of a long-shot/project to me.

Look on the next thread for your answer Bill.
Huge (Chara-sized), first round draft pick, good pedigree, Captain of his Jr team, member of the US Jr National team, one of the leading +/- players in the OHL, yup that’s a long shot!
Why sooooooo negative?
…this is first game I watched Erik Karlsson for 60 minutes …the other day I commented PK is far superior defensively, which He is …but I also mentioned I thought PK will also develop into a far superior offensive D than Karlsson
…I think I have changed My mind
…Karlsson is incredibly gifted offensively, PK is unlikely to match him
…yet, OVERALL, with PK’s combination of above average offensive skills, PLUS His defensive genius I still think PK is right there with Karlsson, if not overall more valuable

I agree with you on that!
Karlsson seems to float on the ice when he is looking for shooting lanes at the blueline.
It does make you wonder if Karlsson would be the same player if he had started with JM. He made a lot (as in really really a lot) of bad giveaways in his first year (and continues to) but the Sens kept putting him out there and encouraging hime to play his game. That doesn’t sound like PK’s experience.
…agree completely NCR
…though JM & RC have been successful helping PK mature

This team is f’ing blowing it. We are officially the Leafs, pressure is off towards the end of the year and they start to win. This really sucks. Middle to bottom of the league type team for another 2 decades.
Awwwwwww, the Habs won again. What a shame!
Frig sakes, Habs can’t do anything right.

Don’t let the wultures getcha.
When you think about the big picture and long term, it is a shame they won. All season, when there was an important game (a 4 pointer) this team could not do it and disappointed us. Now the pressure is off and they decide to play some decent hockey. It is easy to play when the pressure is off and there is nothing to play for. Ask the Leafs. These wins are going to ruin our draft pick and give a false sense of the team. The way this team is, it is not very good. They proved that from OCt-March.
I hear what you’re saying. PG can turn to Molson and say that the team is not that far off now that Markov is back.
In which case keeping Markov healthy and protected would be the goal over the summer. That means the Diaz and Weber experiment has to end. It means the 4th line that can kick ass experiment has to start.
In no particular order, Moen, Staub, and White seems pretty decent to me.

I think Markov’s return has made a huge difference. He’s really stabilized a wobbly team.
But yeah, I agree with you. We need the high pick more than these garbage time wins.
The shootout 2 points are even more insult to injury, given we couldn’t win one before March.
Actually 4 for 5 in Feb and Mar

This team is NOT the Leafs. The Leafs manage to collapse every year. Not so with the Habs who are going through a hellish season – an anomaly. I will not say the Habs have been a contending team in recent years, but they did make the playoffs unlike the chronically inept Leafs.
Man, it just doesn’t get old. Every time RDS replays Cole high-fiving the referee, the guys on l’Antichambre start giggling and this stupid, Cole-esque grin breaks across my face.
The guy’s a card.
Classic move by Cole. One of the funniest things I have ever seen. The guy is awesome.

It was a nail biter and the finish was everything and more for this team that can only be proud. Yes, the Habs played well and seemed to get better as the night wore on. Carey Price was excellent in the shoot out. His poke check save in the SO was truly classic!! Now onto Ott for game two. Go Habs Go!!
Anyone know if Kristo will be playing in Hamilton next year? I dont think he will make the team yet, but is he done his schooling?
give erik cole the C..period.
ill be in the slot
I seriously doubt Cole wants the team to strip Gionta of the C and give it to him. Something tells me the players have a tad more respect for Gionta than folk like you. Keep dreaming though.

Shhhhhh! The tankers will hear you. He’s all corroded, remember?
Tonight he looked like that knee had been soaking in anti-rust solution.
Hopefully it remains well oiled.
I don’t expect him to be the Markov of old until next season. This is just a confidence boost for him and the club, knowing he can play on it. And let’s face it; Markov at 70% is better than all the D the Habs have, save for Subban and Gorges.
I heard he’ll make no difference at all, haha.

What is he saying?
He was going on and on about how PK Subban was going to demand more money because of Gorges’ contract.
PJ was all like, “si j’etais PK…”
We keep up this winning thing and we could end with the eight pick.
Anyways, that new lazy guy whose name sounds like the swedish chef has no skill or finish and should be put on the third line, along with Larry and LL. He should then simply head and park in front of the goalie letting the other two to cycle and put pucks on the net. I think this would work and hope to see it next season by which time we should have a second line.

Nice win against yet another playoff team. Hope they do the same Friday and warp more minds here!
Believe it or not. The Habs are a .500 team this season if not for their record against the South East division. That is if one counts OTL’s as ties.
Boston has marginally worse record against the SE than the Habs, but they have dominated the NE by a wide stretch, and that my friends is how you win your division.
An other interesting observation. Boston is 5-0-1 against the CEN division (the NHL’s strongest division). 11 of 12 points.
Boston will not make it out of the East this season.

Subotai: They blow where I live too. In the north of every man’s heart.
Conan: It’s never too late, Subotai.
Subotai: No. It would only lead me back here another day. In even worse company.
Conan: For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.
I wouldn’t count them out. I think there is a good chance for an HIO nightmare. Bruins and Blues in the final.
I’ve been pumping the Blues’ tires wth my hockey buddies since that 3-0 pasting they laid on the Habs in January. That was the most dominant performance I’ve seen this year. They did everything right. I really think they’ll go deep.
I think Boston’s mojo is seriously broken and it begins with the confidence they had come to take for granted with respect to goaltending and which they no longer enjoy. It’s positively weird how it’s affected their scoring. I think Pittsburgh is going to be nearly impossible to beat.
Should be good hockey after the 1st round is over.

Oh Friggn Lay!
I have seen this for the last 5 years living in Toronto, no pressure so the team starts to win.
If this is how we will play next year, I am okay with that. We are a better team than our record shows, just sucks that everything that could have gone wrong for the habs this year went wrong.
We will still get a top 5 draft pick.
at least we didnt pull a burke blunder eh? the separatists would be stringing up fetuses if that happened.
Oh boy….we can kiss our draft pick goodbye…..Carolina and NYI have Philly and St.Louis up next…..this is not good…

Hahahahahahahahaha
be careful lest they have the last laugh at the end of the season
How so HH is it Halak ball cap night? oh right sorry about That Halak will need his ball cap come playoff time.
St. Louis is definitely a favourite to make it to the finals this year.
As for Halak, it’s only two season’s ago he was being touted as a Conn Smythe candidate.
All I am saying is this. If the Blues win the Cup and Halak the Conn Smythe, MA and the Halakites will be all over this web site for quite some time.
But keep dumping on one of the better players who came up through the Canadiens system, who was almost single handedly responsible for the most exciting play-off run since 1993.
By going 9-9 with a 2.55 GAA and getting yanked at least once in each of the first two rounds that saw the Habs go 7 games in each round? Ya he had no help whatsoever in that playoff run, whether it be from Cammy with his 13 goals in 19 games or Gomez with 14 points in the same 19 games. NOBODY had anything to do with it except the goalie who was average for a few weeks, but nobody seemed to notice just how average because they were too busy slamming the other goalie.
By comparison, Price was a game under .500, lost 3 of the 4 games they lost in OT and had a 2.11 GAA last season when the same group complained about how terrible he was. The save percentages between the two were identical by the way. Amazing is in the eye of the Halakaholic

Another win, this is not the time to do so… For once I had accepted losing for the draft choice. Maybe its just coincidence, but since the return of Markov the Habs of let in 2 goals or less in regulation in all 3 games. For those ready to criticize Price’s shootout performances, just thought I should mention he has won 4 in a row now, but its always the same recipe. DD scores and Price has to stop them all (except the win against the Pens).
A win. Yeeaah!
