And much-maligned Lars Eller, who had a goal and two assists.
It was a very good afternoon at the Bell Centre.
Alex Galchenyuk was First Star.
Eller got robbed, Star-wise.
The Canadiens blew this open by scoring on the three of their first four shots in the second period … against one of the best goaltenders in the NHL.
After Brendan Gallagher bagged his third on a lovely exchange with fellow rookie Alex Galchenyuk, Desharnais and Eller scored their first of the season.
Bourque and DD added goals in the third period.
Thomas Vanek spoiled Carey Price’s shutout bid with a shorthanded goal when it was 5-0 and the Canadiens were coasting.
Eller played his best game of the season
Chucky had two assists and was 9-2 on draws..
P.K. played 18:01 in all situations. He was as strong in the third period as the first.
Brandon Prust had another fight and pounded out a decision over Steve Ott.

The Habs should sit Kaberle for White in the next game.
Kaberle is a relic from the Gauthier era and should be bought out at the end of the season. In fact the Habs shouldn’t risk injury with Kaberle, if they’re going to dress seven defenseman, they should dress Weber and at least try to increase his trade value, and Weber can play a hint of forward too.
Kaberle has no trade value.
Now wouldn’t it be better to have the overtime go from 4 on 4 to 3 on 3 for another 5 minutes instead of having the gimmick shootout? Given all the open ice out there and out numbered rushes on transitions somebody would definately score.
Although I doubt many teams practice for that situation. If they made it a regular feature, they would be much better prepared, and likely not as opened up as we just saw.
How could you possibly prepare and defend properly with that much open ice?
I’m no coach, couldn’t say.

Last year it took two or three games to score four goals.
Another great period and two more assists for Chucky. Gally and Larry pot one each, really hope those 3 play together at some point this season. So young and so much skill, really think they’d be great together.
Clearly team defence buy-in by Habs, leading to offence… Well-coached, well-executed… How good is this?

Kerry Fraser would be offended, but it’s hard not to say that the refs have deliberately evened up the penalties here. They let a lot of Sabres stuff go in the 2nd, called Montreal for some cheap stuff, penalties now four aside.
