It was a better effort tonight. The fourth line was actually our best, they had size and exterted some effort. A more entertaining game than a Martin snooze-fest. Our main problem is nobody has any hands on this team. We make a mistake, it is in our net. The other team makes a mistake and we shoot it hight, wide, at the logo etc. We made an absolute muddle of a 3 on 1 break that any pee wee team could have converted. We did not move the puck and did not even get a decent shot off. A timely goal here or there and it is a whole different game. No hands, that is why we are terrible in shootouts. No coach can cure that problem.
Yes JM was the problem.
Randy has only had 2 games, cut him some slack
What were you expecting an instant turn around and playoff success? Get real Mike geez. This season is a write-off, all that matters now is what happens in the offseason. PG and BG have to go next. The cleanup is only half done.
Exactly. The man hasn’t even had a chance to hold a proper practice yet. Did RC tell PK and Moen to give the puck to the guys in the black sweaters? Didn’t think so.
I think it’s clear that barring a miracle run to the finals, it’s the beginning of the end for the goat. Mr. Molson has pulled the reins in on PG. You don’t put an interim coach in for 50+ games. A new GM will be given the shot to put his own man in place (I suspect with heavy input from the Molson family). For now, we give RC a shot to see if he can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Ya he sure was. Spacek was a washed up whimp. Face facts. When he wasn’t waving his stick in desperation of hitting the puck he was hiding his head afraid to get hit like a sissy. Campoli has only had a handful of games and he isn’t doing half bad.
I’m not making excuses for our losses. An L is an L. But it is amazing how save for the weird game against the ducks, every single loss since october has been by 1 goal (I discounted empty net goals + the flyers goal we gave up with 5 seconds left in regulation).
If they would just get destroyed every night, at least I could be more productive w/ my evenings. thoughts?
I don’t understand the upset being felt in some quarters over RC being unilingual. Uni bespeaks one purpose, a single-mindedness, a concentration of effort to achieving a solitary objective. Isn’t that what you want from your athletes?
Bi, on the other hand, is divided, split, at cross-purposes with itself.
We should embrace the uni, just as we have embraced the uniform of the Canadiens. We want the team to be number one. One is good. Who likes being number two?
RC, you go right on being unilingual and guide the team to its destiny with one goal in mind (well, that, and four or five a game would be nice).
There’s only one path to the Cup and the players need to play as one to capture the reward at the end.
RC is the one who can help them get there.
team simply does not play w/ enough passion…too easy to play against, too soft in the D zone…I honestly think it would be pretty easy to fix to make the team more competitive game in game out….also have to get the useless dollars off the payroll..no team in the league would be good with that much loot tied up in zero production, its simple.
With fans like these I doubt the team has ANY fun playing…
And if you dont think they need to have fun because they’re professionals…
You probably don’t believe in chemistry either and think any player can play with any other just as well…
Saddens me that a great kid like Subban needs to play at all star level to get any credit… You do realize he’s 9th in points and 5th in +- at 3… Playing a ton of minutes vs the best of the nhl…
Seriously, do some of you have a life besides wining about the habs?
ITS NOT YOUR TEAM, its a product, you don’t like it, go watch another team, and no, the consumer is NOT right…
the recent recession showed that being client discriminative was the best road to profitability, check apple, they DONT do cheap, they DONT do free tech service, you want it? you pay and you learn it. (for more details what that means is, you don’t try to have the most clients possible, you instead try to have profitable clients with good client supplier relations)
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, or so it seems after another loss by the Canadiens. Unfortunately, they seem to be losing the habit of playing up to the strong teams’ level, sliding just under the bar again tonight, at least on the scoreboard that is.
Randy Cunneyworth has the responsibility to shake things up and wring more out of the lineup than Jacques Martin could, but that’s difficult without fresh horses. His changes tonight, the lineup he iced and his use of it are no more reasonable or evidently beneficial and no less questionable than Mr. Martin’s. He committed the sin of relegating Alexei Emelin to the pressbox in favour of Chris Campoli. Yannick Weber and his slapshot were also left out.
Mr. Weber being left out did mean that the Canadiens had a big fourth line, something which fans have been clamouring for, with Petteri Nokelainen between Mathieu Darche and Mike Blunden. They were effective and played with heart and determination, creating a few scoring chances, notably a shot off a goalpost by Mr. Nokelainen. This is where the controversies begin though, especially in a loss. While trailing by one goal, shouldn’t the top 2 lines have been in heavy rotation to try to equalize matters? I’d like to see Mr. Cunneyworth justify this decision, especially in Français Radio-Canada International.
P.K. Subban looked weak, seemingly affected by a virus and almost being scratched from the lineup. He went through the pre-game drills and it was decided to play him, but maybe we shouldn’t have bothered, especially with two healthy defencemen available. He looked weak for other reasons. P.K. committed a doozy of a blunder, a soft frilly what-were-you-thinking, didn’t-we-go-over-this-?, wasn’t-it-the-same-kind-of-horsebleep-that-almost-cost-us-the-game-against-the-Islanders-? pass that was pounced on by Andrew Ference and was behind Carey Price faster than you could say ‘glove malfunction’. I’m tempted to excuse Mr. Subban for his transgressions tonight due to his enfeebled state, but I’m also tempted to stick him in the press gallery for a couple of games for the entirety of his oeuvre lately.
The Bruins were again, like the last game, on their best behaviour. Claude Julien has probably given his boys strict marching orders to not lose their heads while trying to decapitate Canadiens. With the popgun powerplay the Glorieux ice though, we may wonder why Mr. Julien would bother. Maybe it was the suspension meted out to Milan Lucic, the Bruins were chastened and have seen the error of their ways. Yeah, that’s it, that’s the ticket….
Benoit Pouliot is rounding into form, he scored tonight on a nice goal, in that he was in position to accept a great feed from Rich Peverley. Mr. Pouliot has been appearing on the scoresheet with some regularity lately, after an appalling start to his season. While I normally wish homeboys and former Canadiens well, in this case I want nothing good to ever happen to that traitorous treasonous turncoat. He can’t go back into his deep hibernation soon enough.

How about it NHL? No fighting, just hockey?
Montreal in their history have had only 3 coaches with French as their first language – Claude Ruel, Jean Perron & Jacques Demers who have won Stanley Cups & the rest of the coaches English as their first language with a few who could speak both languages such as Blake & Bowman……
I just read the CBC’s article on what J MOlson had to say and then I noticed a poll they were conducting about ” how important it was to have a FRench coach on the HAbs?” 80% say not important but being that it’s an English article, go figure, lol …..
We were done a long time ago. I told people here and on another board (where I was banned for saying the same thing)… The Habs won’t do anything with PG and JM at the helm. They won’t do anything with the same stupid vision. They won’t do anything with the same management team who has no clue how to build a team. The team is a mess. An entire mess and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.
This will get far worse. We actually need a real rebuild. None of this retool crap. We need to strip this thing to the bone and start over. We’ll only move forward if we get people in here who know wtf they’re doing and have a vision.
I say just hire a translator for the press meetings. That’s what they do in Soccer. The rest of the time the translator can be Randy’s French tutor. If the habs can’t find the money, maybe they can ask Gomez really nice to borrow some change. Or just bring in whoever does the French press releases on the Habs’ website.
Learning French is not that easy. It takes effort. It’s like learning to play guitar. At first playing an A minor to C major chord is difficult but then you get it. That’s the equivalent of saying, “Bonjour.” Easy enough. But being able to answer questions in French would be like being able to play Ferdinand Sor’s studies by comparison.
I was thinking about that today, how would Mr. Cunneyworth best go about this over the summer? The best I could come up with was to have him coach at youth hockey camps in Lac St-Jean, where nobody speaks English, it’s total French immersion. Set him up with a translator, then let him get to it, it’s an area where he feels comfortable and knowledgeable, and he’d learn all the hockey-related terms really quickly.

@habsfan0 – good question. In this instance I think the debate lies in whether speaking french is a skill required for the job (which you, fairly, think it is not.) But I think you can make a strong argument that a large portion of the job is communications and it isn’t so unreasonable to make french a prerequisite. It’s a required skill for many jobs in Quebec – as it should be – because people deserve the right to be communicated to in their own language.
More to your point, an example in my mind would be an anglophone who could speak passable french (the definition of which is probably another minefield) being denied the job.
Hope I didn’t come across as combative – try to avoid that junk on here – just thought I should voice my concern on that comparison. Go Habs!!
Would somebody on this team please get mad? Unbelievable? No passion at all!!! Canadiens are the easiest team to play against in the entire league. I believe it will be seven or eight games before Cunneyworth finally tastes victory. Disgusting for a franchise that has 24 stanley up wins. I think I’m going to be sick.
we are done for this year! i think on this 6 game road trip we only beat ottawa and winnipeg and lose the rest and officially putting an end to our season and the gauthier era, let’s hope he only trades away a few players like a.kostitsyn for a 1st r.d pick, gill for a 3rd r.d pick .moen for a 2nd or 3rd pick and let the new g.m. make our lottery pick selection as i think we’ll land a top 5 this year! but all is not bad and the future is bright with gallagher, bournival, bealieu and other picks coming. sorry my fellow habs fans it really hurts me to say this stuff and i’m very pissed off and a passionate as you guys are eventhough i live in regina i love this team and my heart is breaking and i don’t like losing, and i’ve watched this team for 40 yrs! but it’s inevitable it’s over for us this year.
I think we’re done too. Time for Gauthier to get rid of some Gainey mistakes. Buy out Gomez, so someone can pay him 3.5 million per year hoping he can find the magic again. Trade Cammi and a defenceman for draft picks. Give young players a chance. Draft higher as a result.
Hockey Inside/Out encourages lively debate, but there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism, profanity and behaviour that we deem to be offensive.
We will, without warning, ban those who do not abide by this simple rule, so as to maximize the enjoyment of readers and participants of both sexes and all ages.

Ya he sure was. Spacek was a washed up whimp. Face facts. When he wasn’t waving his stick in desperation of hitting the puck he was hiding his head afraid to get hit like a sissy. Campoli has only had a handful of games and he isn’t doing half bad.

Cammalleri, Mike Limited NTC
Gionta, Brian NTC
Markov, Andrei Modified NTC
The good news being that Jaroslav Spacek also had a limited NTC
As much as I hate the Leafs they put on a far better show than our beloved Habs.
They are in a race with the Habs to the bottom. The problem is they think they are still contenders.
Ya but in what language? Apparently it matters!
