Not bad for a new line.
Erik Cole, Alex Galchenyuk and Lars Eller beat Martin Biron to give your Montreal Canadiens their second win over the Rangers this week.
They were the Three Stars of the game, with Chucky a popular Number 1.
Carey Price made 17 saves for his second shutout of the season.
The Canadiens had 18 shots.
Liveblog: Canadiens beat Rangers 3-0

I would have given anything to be a reporter to ask Torts if that was a better game.
I would have loved to have been there when TortElvis said:

Fantastic! So great to hear from European Canadiens fans. Mr. N., I’m guessing you are Norwegian (and not a Canadian searching for warmer weather in Fredrikstad), and perhaps in future posts, you could entertain us by telling how you became a fan of Les Canadiens, Rocket Richard, and Alexei Emelin.
When was the last time the Habs had an impact player just drafted, that made the team in his first year?
Guy Lafleur?
Actually no. He took time to gell…

Svoboda?
Yep. Although the impact part is debatable.
in 1984 they picked:
Pick #5 Round 1 Petr Svoboda
Pick #8 Round 1 Shayne Corson
Pick #29 Round 2 Stephane Richer
Pick #51 Round 3 Patrick Roy
What a draft! Thanks for the info D.
I would say Petr Svoboda but maybe he wasn’t as much as an impact player as our new kid. This kid is maybe being put in good line situations by MT re situations or opposing lines, but I love watching him play. Looks great on both sides of the puck and a few times a game he shows those tremendous skills he has. I remember the scouting report before he was drafted about stickhandling in a phone booth, and now I am seeing it live. I don’t want to have too high of expectations for him, but he has me very excited. Comparing what he has done in his 1st 18 NHL games as an 18 and recently a 19 year old to other present NHL superztars makes me very excited.

ayyyyyyy!
Nice one centurion, i mean Danno !! Like it, like it.
Now bend over, TortorELLA.
It is not at all clear to me why Eller and Prust aren’t getting assists on the Cole goal, at least so far.
I’ve seen assists given for a lot less.
Anyways, nice game. Eller really had a lot of confidence tonight. The defence was solid.
That was not a good hit by Pacioretty. He could be looking at an interview, although I suspect it would only be a game if anything because of the way that McDonagh turned into the boards.
Eller might turn out to be the best(only)good thing The Goat did.
PG picked up Bourque, Halpern, Moore and Wisniewski, also got Bournival and traded up for Tinordi.
And the 2nd rounder (2013) is a Big part of the Cammy/bourque trade as well.
wrong place. actually, right place, keeping the Canuck keeper over the Slovak keeper was also a good Gauthier decision……
I think that was a not too subtle shot at one David Aebischer.
I thought Prust passed it to Cole also but after watching the replay it was Gilroy that passed it to him in an ill advised clearing attempt thus negating Eller’s assist. Prust never touched the puck.
is that what happened….i thought it hit prusts skate…that would explain it and make me feel better…conspiracy theorist in me was getting skeptical
Defiinitely a pay back hit with intention. But the league seems to like that kind of thing. Stay tuned…

i am baffled by that too…..does the home building have anything to do with it?makes you wonder….it is sad that I think of that but stranger things have happened in a place where you can’t have “pasta” on your menu
just noticed…17 of top 30 scorers in nhl are top 5 overall picks….both kids have already abandoned Subban and adopted Galchenyuk as the new favorite. Subban is still up there followed closely by Price…but they have obviously picked up on my enthusiasm for Galchenyuk
Competition is good. Subban is actually very under rated by many and is among the extremely valuable players we cannot do without.

Great win tonight…2nd place overall! Everyone played well tonight.
Suk on that leafs fans! Please Habs, win Wednesday, living in Toronto and having friends being laff fans, I took a beatin last game and the one before that.
As for the Patches hit, I watched it a few times on dvr, Mcdonaugh put himself in a bad position almost turning into the boards, but a close one. Oh well, Patches should get free pass on 10 of those (9 on Boston players specifically)
McDonagh (sp) was concussed by Pacs hit so Torts comment about how high did Pacs jump may lead to a hearing & possible suspension and Pacs has been suspended in the past (Letang Hit)……
I really hope not.
torts is a tard. he asked how high patches jumped – umm how about he did not jump. it was from behind but mcd turned…..
thats one problem with hockey today – you can just turn and you are not supposed to be hit – stand up and take the hit like a man.
i think a phone call and then no suspention
Regardless of what Tortorella is, Pacioretty jumped about a foot, the width of the yellow stripe at the bottom of the boards and McDonagh was turned, his face to the glass the whole time.
A team effort again. But the 3rd line, Cole Gally, Eller Keep them together. Amazing, your 3rd line winning the game. WOW, you don’t see that too often.
Gotta say it again. Great game Guy’s ….
I give torts two weeks without a turnaround.
Lucky for Torts he only had to watch one bad team tonight. Gotta love karma

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Torts move benching Gaborik tonight resembeled the old Soviet Union Coach Viktor Tikhonov when he benched Tretiak. It was a panic move that the team responded negatively to. When you lose your best players you lose the room. Torts is in trouble.
———————————–
If Torts is fired and moves back to TSN panel, what current panel member is in trouble?
None. He’s going to become a regular on the new HIO talk show. They promised him they’d include a quiz, like: How high did Pacioretty jump:
A.) One foot
B.) Two feet
C.) Three feet
D.) All of the above.
He’d probably respond that that’s the most boring quiz he’s ever been associated with.
Round two: What’s more repellent:
A.) Rubella
B.) Salmonella
C.) Favella
D.) Tortorella
(“Torts? Wake up, Torts! Torts? Torts?”)
Hi-friggin-larious!!!
So true Jim.
7 out of 8 points this week(Should have been 8/8 except for a meltdown against the Isles,of all teams.) Schedule this week will be tough and will tell us a lot about this team.

Still waiting for summary report of the measurements taken so far. Hey J., Chicago’s got the pole position at present, but second place is pretty good too!

Tortorella sarcastically asked the reporters how high Pacioretty jumped to make the hit. Patches was suspended 3 games last season for an open ice hit to the head on Kris Letang.

Three more gems from Cole tonight:
Play stops because Bickell is being penalized for high-sticking Gallagher but Cole thinks it’s because Gallagher batted the puck with a high stick, even though the camera shows the Ranger headed to the penalty box …
Girardi blocks the puck and lies on the ice writhing in pain in plain sight but play continues until puck clears the zone, prompting referee to blow the whistle. Cole wonders what happened behind the play ….
Eller scores, ref blows whistle and signals goal. Cole says the Habs are being called for icing …
(Okay, that last one I made up.)
Lol, I even believed the last one!
I was thinking Erik Cole, and became immensely confused.
You’re channelling Bob Cole
The Sens are hot,4 in a row.
Game Monday won’t be easy.
Maybe Budaj to get the start, avenging previous loss in Ottawa, save Price for Laffs.

What is this about Giraldi getting a puck right in the ankle (as my dad described to me on the phone)? He made it sound horrible, said it looked like he busted it right up.

Good interview with Gio on Antichambre, the top 9 forwards can really interchange well due to buying into the system and work ethic.

HIO postgame discussions will suck tonight. Both Desharnais and Eller played well, Price got a shut-out (that traded goalie couldn’t have done any better), Cole scored and PK was used on the 4-on-3, even saw a shift with Markov 5-on-5. Hehe

But… just wait for the real measuring stick.
Carolina – 3rd in the conference… 19th in the league… did someone say parity? Something’s gotta give.
Tampa is third in the conference tonight.
Tampa beat them 5-2 tonight and knocked them out of first in their division so now they’re down to 10th in the Conference and 20th in the league. Talk about roller coaster.
I just had a flash back what the 70′s used to feel like.
Are you into Boone’s stash again?

Got spoiled in the 70′s with the perpetual winning. The type of ecstasy a lot of us feel after a regular season win was only felt after the Cup was won. We expected the wins and poor Dryden would get booed if he let in more than two goals. Now ’86 and ’93, what great joy!
“May you live in interesting times.”
…Lindy Ruff a good fit with the Rangers ?
I was thinking the same thing.
Really is a no brainer I think. Only problem is, makes the Rangers a much better team in all likelihood.
Lindy didn’t fare too well with the last group of over-paid under-achievers.
Why would he be any more successful in NYC?

Great game for the Habs. Way to go MaxPac for teaching McDonagh to play rough with him and Prust. Ouch!!! What a coach MT is turning out to be. Notice how poorly Hartley is doing in Calgary and he apparently dumped the Habs for the Flames. LOL.
MT 4 JACK ADAMS
in all fairness to Hartley, Scotty Bowman on his best day could not bring that team into the Playoffs…..
Toronto will be talking about Roberto again after the last goal
…l’Antichambre talkin’ Prust in same breath as Fergie & Nuckles
…good company
if prust could win a fight by a huge margin, I would say yes.
Knuckes was a punisher, and Fergy could literally turn guys into unrecognizable pulps.
If Prust does that to Marchand, he will become a Habs LEGEND!!
More valuable to this edition of the Habs than even Fergie was!
Not sure about that. Big Jean had lots of protection
…obviously You did not live through the John Ferguson era
When a coach puts his best scorer in the doghouse the coach usually loses that battle.
The ideal scenario this year would be for the Leafs to finish in 9th place with more points than the Atlantic division leader and miss out on playoffs despite having more points than a team in the playoffs. Would make my whole summer here in Ontario!
If we go deep into the playoffs, don’t care how the Leafs do!
We shouldn’t be making the playoffs to ‘go deep’. Going deep and losing is still losing. Winning the Cup should be the ONLY barometer for success when you’re in the playoffs.

I’d be fine seeing them swept by a certain team in the first round, ahem.
Trouble is they could win the draft lottery and select first. Any of the 14 non-playoff teams can win the first pick.
meh, it’s getting boring
Islanders owned Sabres 4-0. Good thing we played a poor third period and lost to the Islanders; if this were a seven game winning streak, the mania would be insufferable!
How much are the rangers missing Prust
The CBC nimrods managed to dangle their way around giving the Habs any credit for tonight. ONly talked about Rangers. What a bunch of classless fools.

Where did Eller and PRust’s assists go on the first goal?
Torts took a bite outta of the score sheet.
Good game…Loved Max dishing out some retaliation too.
Looking at the standings, it really irks me that Carolina is in the 3 hole when they don’t even have enough points to be in the top 8.
I hope when they do the re alignment this will be addressed.
Could you imagine if that scenario held up for the last game of the season?

See my post further up, you read my mind Chuck!
I remember before the season reading an article about how the Northeast was easily the weakest in the league and that Southeastern had taken great strides. So accurate.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I got what I wanted, great game played for 60 min, way to go Habs PRICE…………SHUTOUT GOOOOOOOOOD
Just waiting for the idiots on CBC to eating their own crap. After the Habs not only beat the Blue shirts but shut them out. Pj has got to be one of the worst analyst on there. Talking about how the rangers was going to go out play hard and win tonight
Don’t wait all night they’ll find a way to turn Laff defeat into sometype of moral victory! Bet on it!
Stock looked really comfortble. Probably pooped his pants after Eller’s last minute dagger.
PJ is a genius compared to Cherry. I had to dial Cherry out,he was showing scraps and glorifying them. You would think this was the point of the game if you did not know better. Someone who never had watched hockey could honestly ask, “why are they wearing skates” I should have known better that was his last last chance to be seen by me. RDS is way better and my french is as close to zip as one can get. At least I may learn a few more words.
Was that a display of effective shut down defense in the third? Amazing when you move forward instead of backing up!
The team was also fortunate the Rangers were missing key guys tonight.
Yah but we are still missing Nokia!
A win is a win and a shut out is even better!
Definately.
Are you feeding Stock his lines
Habs weren’t allowed to use missing 3 or 4 regulars a game as an excuse last year for their record Prop, double standard here.

That’ll teach those who want to be Laffs fans in Ottawa. Seriously what sane people will cheer for that team except those brainwashed 416ers.
Bob Cole tried his best to put the jinx on Price by saying shutout twice during the last 3 minutes
He did that last year during a game too…yapping away about a shutout..Galley was obviously not happy with it as he didn’t join in. I know..it’s a myth..but it’s something you just don’t do. We have our ten commandments in hockey..lol
