Tyler Seguin scores in overtime to secure a 4-3 wiun and send the series back to Boston for Game 7.
Washington fans may have seen their last game of the season, but it was a good one.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon:
First shift of the game: Claude Giroux belts Sidney Crosby.
Thirty-two seconds in, Giroux scores.
The Flyers never looked back.
Ilya Bryzgalov was solid, and Marc-André Fleury was weak.
The Flyers blocked 39 shots – six each by Matt Carle, Andreas Lilja and Braydon Coburn.
They’re going to be a tough out in the Eastern Conference.
The Stanley Cup champions (pause while 90 per cent of the Commentariat expectorate) face elimination in Washington in Game 6, beginning at 3 (CBC).
The tripleheader concludes in Vancouver, where the Canucks and Kings play Game 5 at 8 (CBC).

Just terrible.
Wow a Cup winning coach benching the best 4th liner in the league (according to some on HIO) in a must win game.
If you’re talking about Thornton, he is one of the best 4th liners in the league. But he is still a 4th liner. Getting scratched now and then is in his job description.

Marc Andre Fleury over Price for 2014? No way. Holtby also entering the picture. Luongo, don’t make laugh. Ward has shot at this year’s worlds.
Price has almost unanimously been considered for the last two years to be the starting goalie in waiting for Sochi.
Hard to argue with Cam Ward, Marc Andre Fleury and Roberto Luongo having bad stretches.
That’s two years from now.

Just shook Carboneau’s hand at Halifax airport. I asked him if there were chances he’d be back as HC. He answered negatively.
The lack of details coming out surrounding his dismissal and the subsequent failure to land so much as an interview for a job have me thinking he did something fairly atrocious as the Habs Coach.
Nobody seems willing to give him a look.
He defied Gainey and went with Halak over Price. That and bowling.
Ha. If you want to go by the speculation it would be objective of you to include the talk that Carbonneau had a closed door policy with the players.
Other teams have fired coaches since 2009 and I haven’t heard any of them even give Carbo an interview. Thats really odd and tells me that something is going on here. He musta done something.

I agree Commandant. I think there’s a lot more to his firing than Bob Gainey let the public know about and that Carbonneau probably doesn’t want shared.

Amazing series by flyers. Hatem but no longer the dirty team that have been use to…wild series…brz in goal still an issue for me.
Things are falling nicely for my predictions!
Flyers-Range Semi in the East
Preds-Blues Semi in the West
Blues-Range final
Blues to win.

I had Rangers, Bruins, Flyers and Panthers.
Kings, Sharks, Preds and Blackhawks.
Some nice upsets but not much consistency. Have Bruins over Preds in the final. Should I put on my helmet now?
Edit: I suppose I could still go 7 for 8 but it’s highly unlikely.
da ranges is down 3 games tootoo
You might have to reconsider that Rangers/Flyers semi pick.

Boo hoo. People are still whining about this?
The present habs d would have major problems with the flyers in a playoff series…we are very weak in d who can hold the puck in the opposition zone and will not even mention play in our zone…
Brayden Schenn as a rookie gets a taste of NHL Playoff Hockey while brother Luke 4 plus years still waiting as a Leaf…….
If there’s a Leaf I feel bad for it’s Schenn. He plays exactly the way his GM and Coach want him to and his reward for it is constant trade speculation, healthy scratches and public statements of doubt from his superiors.

Didn’t see the Hartnell goal until a replay just now. Exact same play. Some things are just a coin flip in this league.
I was hoping for a Pens win only because I don’t like Philthy. Not to be. Between the absolute suckitutde that is and always has been MAF, and the clear indications that Crosby is not right, well, it’s done.
Now given that the Br00ns will likely find their inner goonery fueled assholishness today I’ll be looking forward to seeing them meet Philthy at some point. No two teams I’d rather see beat the living crap out of each other and spoil their playoff runs.
Since the Br00ns have so often found thuggery a recipe for success that has worked admirably for them in the past I’m sure they will explore their inner criminal minds and get back to their winning ways. Unless, of course, some young punk goalie finds his inner Halak…again.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
So does anyone think Crosby is hurt, sick or maybe even concussed again. Is there just trouble in the Penguins den , not all is tight with the stars and or supporting cast and coaches, I guess the off season will be interesting fore the Pens especially with the draft being in Pittsburgh as well..

How much do you expect Carle will get this summer? He won’t be resigned in Phi unless Pronger retires.
$3-$4 million annually.
He scored on 40 points last season. In a weak FA year, I see him getting 4-5m
I’d be shocked if he got anything higher than $4.5 million but it’s possible.
The Free Agent Market for defensemen isn’t weak at all.
Suter, Wideman, Carle, Kuba, Garrison, Corvo, Souray, Colaiacovo, Foster, Stuart, Roszival, Oduya, Kubina and Jackman among others.
Carle is asking for Wisniewski money according to the rumors I’ve heard. Doubt he gets that much, but 5million is not out of the question.
Inflation happens and 5 million today is the same as 3.5 like 3 years ago.

It’s funny you mention that because Wisniewski himself is the primary reason why I don’t think a guy like Carle will get that money.
Carle’s best seasons came with Pronger at his side.
I would say similar money to Josh Georges but probably slightly higher if he is not resigned by Philly and becomes unrestricted.

Crawford with an exceptional breakdown of two defensive errors by Pittsburgh players on last two goals.
He was a little hard on Michalek on his evaluation of the second goal. If Michalek commits to the left winger on that 3 on 2 rush he leaves the middle of the ice wide open and he can’t really anticipate the puck going in off of him on that ensuing play.
He should have been more aware of what was going on with nobody to cover in front of the net but still a little harsh in my opinion.
I think Fleury went to the Flyers team room

Byslma has been heralded as a coach of the year candidate a couple of times now. Perceived by many to be among the league’s best.
His team in this series with a healthy lineup has lost its composure on numerous occasions, he has failed to use timeouts wisely and has given Marc Andre Fleury a ridiculous amount of rope in the net.
He’s also made the mistake of putting Crosby and Malkin together far too often in this series. I understand that putting two of the top 5 players in the World on one line seems like a great idea on paper, but it’s rarely worked out well for the Penguins and they are much more difficult to defend when Crosby, Malkin and Staal are on separate lines.
He’s come as undone as his team in this series.
Brent Johnson has been horrible all season and was awful in the one game in this series he’s pulled Fleury. He’s got no faith in his backup. Whats he supposed to do?

Hard to have more faith in Fleury at this point wouldn’t you say?
If they’d had mediocre goaltending in this series they’d be on the brink of eliminating the Flyers.
You have to take a chance with Johnson at some point.
I cant really defend him but I think you may be being too harsh. His team really isnt 100% healthy and his goalie sucks to high-heavens.
I’m not saying he’s terrible. But I’m certainly saying he isn’t coach of the year material and definitely not one of the NHL’s better coaches.
He’s kept Crosby and Malkin together and they’ve hardly produced.
He hasn’t used timeouts in key situations. Like after Philadelphia got their second goal today and after strong successful pushes in prior games.
And he hasn’t given Brent Johnson a chance. Commandant made the point that Johnson didn’t inspire a lot of confidence but Johnson couldn’t possibly be worse at this point.
Penns need Halak. :3
Ya, him sitting on the bench has made Elliot an excellent goaltender. Maybe he could help Fleury.

I don’t think it would shock anyone to see Bryzgalov send one down to the Pens’ end and score on Fleury.
When I watch Pittsburg, I wonder why they aren’t a dynasty. Terrific up the middle, which we talk about ALL the time, good coaching. Is it defense? You watch other series and they can’t get to the net. Here they just trade chances.

Proud Pricebot since 2006/2007
I found it odd that many were saying “Fleury’s back!”.
This is Fleury, very much like a couple of former Habs goaltenders, he’s either lights out fantastic or absolutely terrible. It has been the story of his career.
He’s a guessing goalie, guessing goalies never find consistency
Not a single puck should have reached the back of the Pens net today. Giroux, short side from a bad angle and no screen. Loose puck underneath Fleury that Hartnell knocks in with one hand on his stick and a slightly deflected shot from 50 feet that was not a great shot to begin with.
My first thought five minutes of game was to acknowledge how right you were and how wrong I was in thinking that Fleury’s last two games were a sign that he was getting into a zone. You were right.
I just couldnt remember who I had the post exchange with.
I do the same thing quite often. A lot of goalies in the NHL have a couple of great or even amazing performances and I find myself forgetting about the three stinkers they put up prior to that. A lot of guys have made a habit of it over their careers.
Bryzgalov, Fleury, Halak, Crawford, Howard, Craig Anderson, Hiller, Niemi, Lehtonen, Backstrom, Luongo, Dipietro, Pavelec, Vokoun and Mason.
Pretty darn good goalies in there but none of them are the same on a regular basis. Rinne, Lundqvist, Price, Thomas, Miller, Quick and Kiprusoff are almost the same on a nightly basis so they’re rightfully considered the best in the league.
Not getting into any HALAK or NON-HALAK stuff but I think he has made himself the soundest technically of anyone in your ‘flash in the pan’ group and therefore does not really belong with them.
I would trust Halak more than Luongo over a season for instance… because Halak is technically better thru hardwork.
That’s very much up for debate.
I’m referring to an overall body of work and if Halak’s 40 games this season are going to be considered his full season last year as likely the worst starter in the league must be also.
Speechless, wow, how does he let that in

This season is a perfect example to illustrate how peaking too early as a team can doom it in the playoffs.
Red Wings had a 23 game home winning streak and dropped two critical home games to the Predators.
Vancouver and Pittsburgh had the best records since the All-Star break and have faced three elimination games before the sixth game of either series.
The Bruins went on an absolute tear through the middle part of the season and have been mediocre since around mid-January.
The Rangers lead the Eastern Conference for the majority of the regular season.
St. Louis has so far been the only example of a team being consistently good to elite for a long period of time and carrying it over into the playoffs.

It isn’t luck but he loaded up on stars and completely ignored depth. Another move he made that was braindead from the word go was trading Jamie McGinn for a couple of pluggers who ultimately did nothing for him in the playoffs.
Jamie McGinn was essentially on the same career path as Joe Pavelski albeit from a different position. Colorado stole McGinn.
Again, I wouldn’t call him a horrible GM but he certainly hasn’t displayed that he’s one of the better NHL executives out there.
30 teams in the league and his team has consistently been at or near the top in the regular season since the lockout.
To me that says something about his ability as a GM.
He’s made more than just the Thornton move. How about stealing Dan Boyle out of Tampa? The previously mentionned Toskala-Couture move? getting Heatley on the cheap? I liked moving Heatley for Havlat too.
Go Habs Go!

id say hes done a terrific job with san jose he made the big trade for thornton say what you whant about thornton but that was a top 5 steal of the decade up there with the kessel trade, he robbed dan boyle from tampa, he grabbed the at the time perrenial 50 goal scorer heatley from ottawa he didn’t really work out with heatley in san jose but still was terrific aggresive gm skills to aquire a player of that calibre. their are a bunch of other player transactions like aquiring brian campbell that wern’t robberies but proves he has excellent communications skills with the other gm’s around the league and is capable of pulling the trigger to get a deal done and not for players like gomez, bourque, kaberle he aquires actual quality hockey players.
Carey Price’s NHL playoff record:

Room for improvement,IMHO.
Be careful what you wish for. We got Max Pacioretty and Josh Gorges from him for Craig Rivet.
I don’t believe Murray Wilson speaks French either.

haha, the Leafs have a habit of making other GM’s look good.
He just gave up Devon Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and the first round pick that got the Wild Zack Phillips for Brent Burns.
Also traded Dany Heatley for Martin Havlat.
He hasn’t made just one bad trade. Tim Burke is their director of scouting. Maybe he should get consideration somewhere.
You do also realize that he followed that Leaf trade up by hiring John Ferguson Jr. too right?

Good judgement is good judgement. Wilson hasn’t displayed a whole heck of a lot of it during his time with San Jose.
His best move was what he gave up to acquire Joe Thornton.
I wonder what it would take to get Big Joe ? I would trade our no1 but I would offer up Pleks + someone else.
This is the exact reason why it’s rare that a top 5 pick ever changes hands.
You might like Joe Thornton, but if you were to trade a #3 overall pick for him today you’re also acquiring his salary(and as an aside the new CBA will likely include a salary limitation on second contracts).
Thornton has also seen decline in production in recent years and you aren’t getting him at his best. For the #3 overall pick, San Jose would have to sweeten the pot if I were the Habs’ GM.
I think it would take a GM fresh off a lobotomy to do that.
Or Bob Gainey. Sorry. Couldn’t help but think if Gomez. 2 minutes for being mean to one if my favorite players if all time.
