Liveblog: Super Sunday

The Canadiens got a power-play goal.
They got a shorthanded goal.
And the W lifted them into 14th place.
Lemme hear you say Wooooooo!

Carey Price was very sharp to earn the shutout.

A goal by Scott Gomez would have been the icing on the gateau.

But it was not to be.

Biggest news of the day: Huffington Post reports RenΓ© Angelil has bought Schwartz’s.

There goes the Plateau …

  1. ManApart says:

A lot of heart Patches-DD-Cole have. This season, they are the only 3 players on this team worth a damn.

    • danhabsfan says:

nooo… Add Price , Emilin, Goerges, Moen, to name a few

      • ManApart says:

        Ya, I forgot Gorges.

Price, no. He’s been just an average goalie, nothing special about his play this season. Emelin in young and could prove to be a good player, but really hasn’t done much this season. Moen started off strong, but has really tailed off.

      • habs001 says:

This year we would not be any worse with 18 other starting goalies.,price has not had a season where he has stood out from most starting goalies in the league..

  2. Mavid says:

I am with you Punkster…GO HABS GO

  3. Rad says:

Little David Desharnais, the smallest guy on the ice!

  4. manu07 says:

Emelin is great to watch. Imagine when he learns how to speak English.

  5. EricInStL says:

    Hey they scored right ?

  6. ifitwasnt4kovalev says:

    yay!!! desharnais’s line again!!

  7. jedimyrmidon says:

    Keep Emelin!

  8. HabFab says:

Weber may not be much of a D but he does rack up the points in the few games he gets to play.

  9. ffenliv says:

If Desharnais, all 4 foot 3 of him, can go to the front of the net and park himself there, why can’t people like Gomez do the same?

  10. temekuhabs says:

Only a few guys to keep
Cole is for sure a keeper

  11. slapshot777 says:

Finally Pacs put them on the board. Go to the net good things happen.

  12. SH%^!!! πŸ™

I don’t want the 14th place man.. tank! tank! tank!

  13. Rad says:

    Emelin in the house!

  14. temekuhabs says:

Man, that Emelin is a keeper

  15. ifitwasnt4kovalev says:

    EMELIN!!!! WOWOW!!

  16. Jets are a joke, do you want to win this game or not Winnipeg?? Score already man.

  17. temekuhabs says:

Truth of the matter, this team blows, time to ship out guys who can bring younger players, draft picks, finish as low as possible (ie) bottom 5 to get a lottery pick

  18. Bertuzzi says:

Watching this game is like fishing. Long stretches of boring interrupted by a few moments of disgusting.

  19. slapshot777 says:

This season has been Murphys Law for the Habs this season. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Started with Markov and then Campoli then it moved up to Gomez, Gionta, AK46, we just haven’t been able to get anything rolling. The only thing that has been working for us is our penalty killing and we’ve been getting lots of practice on that because the refs have been calling penalties on the Habs left and right and there have been many in the gray area.

The whole league has been crapping on the Habs every chance they get. I watched every game this year and not to be bias but you can just watch how from the officiating right up to the Campbell and Shanahan.

I just hope that when the draft rolls around they don’t put a fix in to make sure that we wouldn’t end up with a first overall pick. Bettman and his cronies are not above doing this they would stoop to any level to make the Habs look bad. We have our management doing that we just don’t need any help from anyone else.

  20. ifitwasnt4kovalev says:

emelin, the only good thing that came out of this year, i would add diaz…..

  21. manu07 says:

    Shouldn’t *

  22. manu07 says:

They should have games on Super Bowl Sunday. Every player on the ice looks flat footed and like try just want this game over. Oh wait…that’s every game for the Habs.

  23. jmsheehy19 says:

Darche is playing really well tonight. And Palushaj is showing good acceleration.

  24. immortalhab says:

Stop loving AK46! He’s a part time player!

  25. boing007 says:

Habs can’t even hit the broad side of a barn. Shameful.

    Richard R

  26. HabsFanMTL says:

i’ve never understood the “dump n chase” system. You give the puck to ur opponent and then chase them for it, its ridiculous 99% of the time they take the puck and bring it up the other way. So much for our “puck possession”team.

  27. immortalhab says:

All this talk of trades … a few people have blackmailed management with compromising pictures and are therefore untouchable. Just come clean already and fix the team!

  28. krulmadden says:

OMG …. such a boring game so far. Wonder if Habs will offer reductions for season ticket holders in July for the pain of this season. HAHAHAHA!!!! Sorry for a minute there thought Canadiens management were decent human beings.

  29. temekuhabs says:

27 vs 22 we expect something other??

  30. RGM says:

I like AK46’s moxy today. With all the scouts in the house, I hope that we are not in the final 3 weeks of his tenure in Montreal.

GO HABS GO! 2011-12 is probably not our year!

  31. Hali_Hab says:

This is such garbage hockey! So hard to watch.

  32. Rad says:

Some good work along the boards by AK46

  33. showey47 says:

I knew the fans love gomez, just listen to the cheers every time he touches the puck.

  34. temekuhabs says:

    Jets PP looks like ours

  35. temekuhabs says:

    That’s a penalty???

  36. Dryden_29 says:

Is it just me or is anyone else here sick to death of the constant line juggling…how in the name of God can they expect the players to get adjusted to one another if their line mates change after every shift…dunno, but it seems to that this is part of the problem moving forward, just sayin’…

  37. habs_54321 says:

what i don’t understand is why the coaching staff hasn’t tried subban with weber on the powerplay at the same time. its so obvious that teams are marking subban as the only shooting threat making it an easy pk you put two threats on the ice with weber and subban and i strongly believe it will open up some lanes ala wisniewski and subban i’ve been waiting for this all year and they havent tried it even ONCE yet.

    • slychard says:

PK shoots like a shot gun, powerful but not accurate.

      Kiss my hAbSS!!!

      • habs_54321 says:

so give him more space to shoot at by putting a second shooter on the ice let subban have the option of making a passing play instead of always forcing the shot. once teams are forced to respect webers shot as well as subbans it will give him more then a pea sized hole to shoot at

  38. manu07 says:

I think pk should play forward instead of defense a few shifts. Just for fun. See how it goes.

  39. manu07 says:

    Shocker. Another failed PP

  40. Bertuzzi says:

It’s not fair. Winnipeg is a first year team built from table scraps. Montreal is a dynasty that has been masterfully crafted and developed over many decades.

  41. Rad says:

So Byfuglien starts the game with a big hit, just to let everyone know who’s boss.

  42. Cdubya says:

No point with all the armchair GMing. We need a top1, 2 or 3 pick to add to our existing core. We have had master duct tapers keep this team together, barely, for the last 20 years…. let it go and start anew.

    “chill out”

  43. ffenliv says:

I’ve been lamenting to myself the last few days that, since the playoffs are long dead for the Habs, that I really want them to get a top pick this summer. Of course, that means hoping for losses.

Then I realized … they’re gonna lose whether I hope for it or not, so at least I can still enjoy the odd wins.

  44. manu07 says:

Is Winnipeg on the PP. wtf

  45. manu07 says:

So far, Habs are sleeping! As usual.

  46. boilerroom says:

happy to see weber in and diaz out also why not bring up ian shultz some one who might put a little fear in the other team defence when going for a puck

  47. Kimberly2u says:

    Here we go…brace yourselves

  48. Midgetinabikini says:

I really hope Diaz is not being shopped. These are the typical Gainey/Gauthier style moves that have been killing us for the last decade.

Hopefully Molson is on the final stages of hiring his new management team. This duo needs to be canned pronto. They cannot be allowed to make any more hockey decisions with this team, especially with trade deadline mere weeks away. We need a fresh perspective, new ideas, and a new vision. I don’t care about language, politics, or anything aside from good solid hockey sense.

If I were Molson and the other investors, I’d be really concerned with my 500 million dollar investment.

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

    • joeybarrie says:

When was the last time the Montreal Canadiens lost money?
Enough with the Molson doing something comments. He is a businessman, not a hockey GM. He can’t do anything but hire a good GM.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

      • Midgetinabikini says:

Any good businessman will ensure they have the best people running their day to day operations to maximize profit and success. I don’t see this with Molson. He seems to be relying too much on the wrong people. He needs to scrap the entire hockey operations team and get the proper staff in the organization at all levels. This is assuming he has people on the outside who can advise him who to put in place. Remember his comments about Martin and Gauthier? He had full confidence in both of them! Then a while later Martin is fired. This sound like someone who is either blowing smoke or has lost control of their organization.

Canadians may have not lost money in recent memory, but if they continue this way , there will be no return on investment. Fans will not continue to fill the bell center with higher annual ticket prices. Parents will not be buying souvenirs, concessions will also suffer. The wave of success the Canadians organization has been riding from a financial perspective may crash into the rocks really soon.

  49. Rad says:

habsonlinetv is not even showing a link to this game…..good Lord, have they given up too??

  50. otter649 says:

Lovely Andalay is 14 not 13….

  51. ooder says:

we were told a 5 year rebuild plan.
    what it has turned into:
The 2010-11 Stanley Cup was not won, but given

  52. smiler2729 says:

Hate the contract not the player, I like Scott Gomez, he’s a speedy two-way player who’s a great playmaker, I never really expected any goals just lots of assists…

The contract and the expectations it brought have just extinguished him.

Time to move on as fans and let’s show him Montreal class and not boo him, it really only makes us look like jackasses

  53. punkster says:

I support the Habs through think and thin. Cheering for them to win today.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  54. HardHabits says:

If you want to look at one area why the Habs are so crappy look no further than my post below:

Moore was for a 2nd. Schneider for a 2nd. Wisneiwski for a 2nd. Tanguay for a 1st and 2nd. None were resigned. Add to that David Fischer and trading away McDonagh and you have a whole lot of wasted draft picks.

    • topher5468 says:

Now thats an awesome Post, trying to push mediocre teams to championship calibre and in return ruining the future, That trend has to stop. I for one can stand a team with minimal and young talent but a bright future

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

    • Mattyleg says:

      Your post made them crappy??

      —Hope Springs Eternal—

      • Mr. Biter says:

HH, agree with you on the Wiz and the Moore part of the post both who we should have resigned. But as I have posted the Habs virtually never re-sign players who had season ending serious injuries (except the Goat with Markov). Schneider was signed by the Canucks as a UFA and ended the next season (with a healthy salary) playing for the Moose and Tanguay also had a terrible next year.

        Mr. Biter

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

  56. Mavid says:

PJ showing his name on the monument outside the Bell Center..asshole

  57. Happy anniversary Scott Gomez!!!! Hoping to see his last goal played on the big screen above centre ice and to let him know when he scored last.

  58. slychard says:

Maybe we should all take a close look in the mirror regarding the players and management of this team. Look at MATTYLEG for instance, he hasn’t been the same since his unfortunate injury with a metro turnstile last summit…should we trade him to the bruins site? I say no! He still has something to offer. He’s a gamer. Just like Gomer, well liked in the room by his team mates, although less productive. So let’s wait until the off season and hope the chips fall where they may. Perhaps Matty and Markov will be back next season in full form…we can only hope.

    Kiss my hAbSS!!!

  59. manu07 says:

I think cammi was right. I watch this team come in with a losing attitude almost every game. I’m sure today will be no different an another “L” will be the result.

    • Mattyleg says:

Check my post below. Of course Cammy was right. He’s not saying anything new.
Ask him about his scoring slump. “Not scoring breeds not scoring,” just like “losing breeds losing.”
That’s all he said. It’s not re-inventing the wheel.

      —Hope Springs Eternal—

  60. gmd says:

Boone, we need your Superbowl prediction.

  61. martincurran55 says:

Lets Fail for Nail. Go Jets Go!!!!!!

  62. Mr. Biter says:

Was in Montreal last week and had to see a Doctor. I Was looked over and pronounced in perfect health. I noticed many Habs pictures in the Doctor’s office and asked him if did any work for the Habs. He proudly told me he was the Doctor looking after Markov.
I am now doing my last will and testement.

    Mr. Biter

  63. RockinRey says:

    Any idea of the

    line-up Mr. Boone???

  64. Mavid says:

now that picture is funny…well done..
went for a nice long ride on the sled..ready for some hockey..hopefully the winning kind

  65. Psycho29 says:

So…….here are the worst Habs teams statistically since 1967-68:

    2000-01 28-40-8-6 .427
    1994-95 18-23-7 .448 (lockout season)

    2011-12 19-24-9 .452

The worst Habs’ team ever was the 1939-40 edition, they were 10-33-5 .260……I think I read in one of Dick Irvin’s books that the franchise was in danger of folding after that season….Maybe Ian can tell us more about that team πŸ˜‰

Personally, I think that 2000-01 team was the worst I’ve seen…
Memorable names like: Xavier Delisle, Barry Richter, Johan Witehall, Christian Laflamme, Mathieu Descoteaux, and Andrei Barishnikov. Oh and PJ Stock also….

    • jmsheehy19 says:

The 00-01 team was completely futile. I never understand the commentators who say this is the worst team theyve seen in 50 years. Unless they just took a year off from hockey, that team not only lost more, but also didn’t have the amount of solid youth that we have with Price, Emelin, Diaz, Eller, and Pacioretty.

  66. kenster18 says:

Just a thought: If Gauthier will not be the GM next year, why not just get rid of him now. Why let him make crappy trade deadline deals too. Other than being aloof, he really doesn’t bring much to the game, does he?

  67. manu07 says:

Ya I love it as well. It seemed that every game was on Setanta sports only for a while. And that one channel costs a ton of money . Nice to have some more televised soccer games for sure.

  68. Corson27 says:

Here is a sample of lyrics from Scott Gomez iPod?

That ain’t working that’s the way you do it, money for nothing and the chick for free.

  69. durocher says:

Send Moen to Vancouver for Yann Sauve, a former 2nd round pick with size (6’2″, 209), who played with Beaulieu in junior.

  70. Cunneyworth tries to give Gomez a helpful tip on his anniversary.

  71. manu07 says:

Not sure guys. But some people spend a ton of money for those tickets. And to be honest most of the team looks like they are half assing most games. Not nuts about the booing to be honest but I see where the “people” are coming from at the same time.

  72. petrov14 says:

Any scouts from Hamilton here checking out Gomez?

    Long live Captain Gionta.

  73. manu07 says:

I caught the Man United comeback. Great game. Pure entertainment. Unlike the Habs this year.

    • Strummer says:

it’s great Fox has some footy on Sundays now.
I thought they said it’s AC Milan and Arsenal next week in a Champions League match.
