Liveblog: Canadiens beat Lightning 5-2

Playing his 700th NHL game, Erik Cole scored twice to raise his career-best total to 34.
He is living proof that hard work is rewarded.
Linemate max Pacioretty, playing his 200th game, scored twice, his 31st and 32nd.
Tampa Bay is a terrible road team and really sucked.

  1. durocher says:

Where has this team been all season? They are hustling and skating their rumps off.

I’m liking what I see from St-Denis, he has a high compete level and doesn’t look out of place. He looks better than Campoli, Diaz, and Weber, which isn’t saying too much, but still, he’s looked solid.

  2. Strabo says:

When was the last time the Habs scored six goals in a game? Make that seven goals.

“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” Albert Einstein

  3. Sean Bonjovi says:

Karlsson is the next Mike Green. It takes a dead eye to think that guy can play defence.

  4. As much as I hate Bourque at the moment I am willing him to give one more chance..
Last year when Pittsburgh traded for James Neal he was horrendous, scoring only 1 goal in 20 games.
    This year he has 40.
Not saying Bourque is a 40-goal scorer, but he can definitely pop in at least 25. Let’s give him one more chance.

Pretty much every player deserves one more chance besides Campoli and.. Gomez.

  5. Kimberly2u says:

It’s still feels weird to hear power forward and Habs in the same sentence….go Cole and Max and little David

  6. mrhabby says:

A one line team…for the love of god can we have 2 next year…

  7. slapshot777 says:

Hopefully the new GM has a different philosophy with regards to signing players during the season rather than wait till the off season to try and get things done.

    • Sal from the Hammer says:

Right, BG lost a chance to sign both, Sourrey and Striet, because he didn’t negotiate during the season. Striet especially, hurt, cause he said he would have accepted less during the season. PP was never as good.

    • Marc10 says:

That philosophy reeked of arrogance. They didn’t have a clue how to manage assets and we’ve paid dearly for losing all those players for nothing.

You’d think when they shipped Rivet and got an amazing return, they would have figured this out… But alas, they were so desperate to cling on to 8th place… Hopefully this completely lack of vision and a real 3 year plan is behind us.

      • mrhabby says:

Don’t count on it….Molson wants to make some money

      • Sal from the Hammer says:

There was a definite arrogance there with BG. Like alot of the other old time greats, they still think this is the Habs of old. That’s why ex-greats scare alot of us. They think they are Scotty, and, this is still THOSE days. Just get a GM with some class, who doesn’t panic. Montreal is already the best place to play and win on the planet. The rest will take care of itself.

  8. Marc10 says:

That’s two obvious non calls on Vinny.

I hate the refs. It’s a meaningless game you gutless pukes. Make the calls!

  9. Phil C says:

As bad as this season has been, that top line is something to feel good about, and they are all signed for next season.

  10. slapshot777 says:

I guess Lecavalier as a get out of jail free card that he is using in the third period.

  11. Propwash says:

Lecav is beginning to piss me off….

    Do that again Patches!

  13. Adidess says:

That Boone guy, such a positive Nancy! ‘3-2, shutout loss coming?’

    Patches scores! Take that Boone!

  14. mb says:

Can we just clone that first line or something?

  15. shootdapuck says:

Another blown lead on the way?

    The panic is palpable.

  16. 24moreCups says:

    Pacs!!! Attaboy!

  17. I want them to tank.

But when they score.. I can’t stop myself…

  21. JIMVINNY says:

Staubitz probably got a pat on the back for that one.

  22. Kimberly2u says:

I’m trying to be positive tonight and hope we win this game….:)

  23. 24moreCups says:

Would anyone want to try Staubitz on D next year, I know he was a defense man that was converted to a forward. Just a random question.

  24. 69HABS says:

I see that Malone is tame tonight

  25. jedimyrmidon says:

So, um, the Habs have scored on themselves twice this game…

  26. Kimberly2u says:

Here we are in the third period

  27. Erik Cole is beautiful. That is all.
Davey is beautiful as well. He cracked the 60 point plateau in his first full NHL season. He’s a keeper – I see him being a 70-point player, same with Max-Pac.

  28. Marc10 says:

Thanks refs for not calling the obvious penalty to Vinny.

  32. jols101 says:

What does everyone think of Markov’s come back so far?

Just checked the stats he has only played 10 minutes after 2 periods.

I know it was a long rehab, do you think he still has a lot of rust on him or is this what we can expect from him…to me he has shown flashes of his former greatness but then not so much. I don’t know what to make of it…

  33. Coles secret, he shoots the bloody puck. Bourque doesn’t

Promote the Youth, Support From The Veterans and Remember the Heritage!

  34. PeterD says:

Whatever happened to that female reporter that asked J. artin why Cole wasn’t being played on the Power Play and Martin jumped all over about not doing her homework…God I sure hope she feels fully vindicated after the season Cole has had and J. Martin gets canned for his poor use of players on his bench.

  35. The Gonk says:

That new CBA will be critical if I understand correctly – especially for dumping the contracts of Gomez, Kaberle and possibly Bourque. Speaking of which, I wonder what Bourque wants to be when he grows up. His size and ability are cancelled out by his lack of fortitude and disinterest.

  36. arrybai says:

How many PP goals for Cole this year ?

Is JM doing his homework ?

  37. HabFanSince72 says:

    Desharnais is f***ing great.

    What a player.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  38. HabFanSince72 says:

If you believe RDS’ Denis Gauthier – a big if – Brisson and Brisebois are lukewarm at best.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

    • HabFab says:

One of the other reporters was suggesting BriseBois was worried about his young sons growing up in the hockey mad Montreal. But who knows what is real in all of this.

    • Do you blame them? What a mess here. The cap space from Kaberle, Gomez and Bourque alone can choke a new candidate. We have some good bones (King Cole of course) but there is a lot of years yet to build this into a cup team. I’ve said it before, but we have maybe half a team to work with and Gabriel Dumont? Good hustle, but against a team like Boston or Philly, or Vancouver (remember the Rangers in our last game at a 4-1 loss). We need forechecking, skaters. Ah, you know already….

      • mrhabby says:

Exactly…keep in mind I read that Molson has no desire to see his team wallow away like other teams and not getting into the playoffs…it’s going to take a strong son of b to get Habs back to the playoffs…scarey.

  39. HabFab says:

I see that they have given Budaj an assist, must be embarrassing!

  40. slapshot777 says:

Easy, Boonehe missed the net. Lol

  41. punkster says:

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  42. JIMVINNY says:

Poor Rene. Just can’t hit the net.

    • Unbelievable. Must’ve had at least a couple dozen great scoring opportunities since he cam on board. Needs to see a sports psychologist.

  43. Adidess says:

I was very skeptical about Desharnais: too small, too light, maybe not skilled enough to make up for it. But my gosh, the guy battles both on offense and defense. His passing and hockey IQ surprise me too for sure, but his compete level is just unbelievable…

  44. The HonestFan says:

Cole !! Let’s trade him he’s too big!!

  45. Marc10 says:

I’m glad TB is getting physical. We play much better when we’re challenged.

  46. Kimberly2u says:

    We need a Staubitz fight

  47. slapshot777 says:

By far the best acquisition of the year by any team has to be Eric Cole. A career year of 34 goals and counting. He sure does love playing in Montreal. I want to see the hat trick tonight.

  48. Marc10 says:

Hee! Hee! Pleks does work on the PP… with the right guys.
    That was nice.

PK should take some notes. Clinical.

  55. The Jackal says:

Who would we have on the second line next season? Plek, Gio, and our pick? I think we leave the DD line intact, have Eller and LL and X as third line… Thoughts?

  56. jedimyrmidon says:

It’s like they don’t take the PP seriously. They keep dumping off the puck to someone else just praying they’ll do something useful with it.

  57. L Elle says:

The Guy Boucher stock has taken a tumble. Lecavalier only has 10 more goals than Tom Pyatt. I expected a lot more from Yzerman.

    GO Brisson, Bergevin, Brisebois GO

  58. The HonestFan says:

Malone is pretty calm tonight must have “youtube” Staubitz !!

  59. HabFab says:

Just think our 1st round pick this year, in 5 years will be another Stamkos.

Hey Dude, that is some good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. Adidess says:

Cole is beast. What a season!

I’ll say this too. Feeling sorry for him already for next year. You score 32+ goals on your first season, 25 goals next year will be a disappointment. Everybody will expect 40. It’s called the Gionta syndrome.

  61. Les Canayens says:

I have a bad feeling that Cole may underperform next season. Or get injured 5 games in and will miss like 3-4 months.

I love him as a player as much as everyone here. But some kind of bad luck has been looming over for a while.

It’s been like this for the Habs the last couple of years, a player doing well? Some sh*t will happen next season.

  62. krob1000 says:

is this the nba? they are isolating Stamkos and giving him every touch….reminds of the Bulls circa 93

  63. JIMVINNY says:

That was a TANK penalty for sure.

  64. mrhabby says:

Cole looked like cammy down there.

    Cole mvp this year.

  65. L Elle says:

Cole’s goal made me smile. Am I allowed? Tankologists?

  66. punkster says:

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  67. The Jackal says:

They should call him Eric Goal.

  68. HabFanSince72 says:

Some of you are hockey fans I think.

In that case you might enjoy the game on TSN2.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  69. Adidess says:

Seriously, just saw that video excerpt again on RDS, absolutely unintentionally hilarious!!!

Vincent Damphousse explaining with a straight face that he spent the last week thinking and getting excited about the GM job, then he hit him he had two young kids to whom he owes everything right now, that’s what made him call Geoff Molson to tell him and publicly state he doesn’t want the job.

I half-expected the reporter to ask ‘how disappointed was Mr Molson to hear his best candidate is now out of the running?’…

I want a top pick. It would really suck to suck this bad and have suckers like the Leafs outsuck us down the stretch and suck away our draft pick.

  70. habsfanforever7631 says:

Why doesn’t Palushaj get a chance to play on the top 2 lines?
Play him with Plec and send Bourque down to the forth line.
Palushaj is not a forth line player, so let’s play him on the top 2 lines and see what he’s got.

    • Bill says:

Cunneyworth loves Bourque. I don’t get it. The guy does nothing. RC calls him out. Bourque STILL does nothing. RC starts giving him 20 minutes of ice a night.

  71. Ozmodiar says:

More props to the Habs from Marc Crawford during The Quiz.

  72. sreuel says:

I can see habs trading first round for help now

  73. krob1000 says:

Crawford still sounding like he is auditioning for the Habs position.
Boone”Dumont hasn’t looked out of place”….ummm of course not he is playing with the Bulldogs tonight no?” …the Montreal Bulldogs that is…

  74. habsfanforever7631 says:

Yeah go PK. Hope he scores a goal today.
