Liveblog: First W of the season

Alex Galchenyuk
A night of firsts:
First win for Marc Bergevin as Canadiens general manager.
First win for Michel Therrien 2.0.
First NHL point for Brendan Gallagher.
And … all together now:
Get used to yelling that non-Canadian name.
The kid, chosen third overall in a draft that seems a long time ago, scored the first of what will be many, many NHL goals.
It gave the Canadiens a 4-1 lead in the second period and sent the Bell Centre faithful into a frenzy.

And what a night for HIO: 1,000-plus Comments on the second live blog of the season.

Hockey is back, eh?

  1. HabinBurlington says:

Haha, the infectious play of Prust, and White stands up for Gorges.

  2. showey47 says:

Lets see what the MT version of 3rd period lead protection is. Is it a continuos aggresive forcheck? Or is it a jacques martin reverse trap where we hem the opposition in our own end for the entire period?

  3. HabinBurlington says:

Is Prust the new Darche on the Powerplay?

  4. Haboone says:

The goal for 27 was sweet. What really impresses is the play just before when two panthers mugged him and he stayed on his feet, picked up his lid and got ready for the draw! 18?

  5. Bripro says:

Markov on the power play…. oh yeah!

  6. commandant says:

    On DD.

Go back and watch Markov’s first goal…. it was DD digging that puck out of the corner and keeping it in that started that sequence.

He’s had a couple of those types of plays on the PP tonight… winning board battles and getting to loose pucks.

    Go Habs Go!

  7. lavie says:

Hurry up, PK, before it’s too late. 🙂

  8. Rugger says:

Quick question – who are you happier about, Gally or Markov? I vote for Markov being back!

  9. Strummer says:

‘Yay! Winless Flyers down 3-0 to the Devils.

    • savethepuck says:

Good, I hate the Flyers almost as much as the Laffs and Bruins. Let them dig a hole early in a short season.

  10. lavie says:

This is a reason I like White so much. 😀

  11. Galchenyuk says:

IN THERRIEN I TRUST. GALCHENYUK-GALLAGHER-PRUST, would have never thought that, Therrien saw something there. I will stop questioning Therrien’s moves, for now… Benefit of the doubt

Go Habs Go! (@leojl8 on twitter)

  12. HardHabits says:

    Smells like chicken wings.

  13. mark-ID says:

@bripo….agree on your assessment of DD…….he’s definately having an off game.

  14. HabsFanMTL says:

i still say Eller belongs on third line. I can still see a line of Eller Gally and Gallagher on that third line

  15. habs4ever2894 says:

    Eller for Niederreiter?

Would the Islanders go for it?

  16. Gerry H says:

    This is it.

This is why I’m a Habs fan. First line production, second line production, rookie production, two Markov power play beauties. All the bitching and whining is so irrelevant right now.

    Man, I love hockey.

  17. Bripro says:

    Much better game.
    The boys (mostly) showed up.
    Only exception, IMO, is DD.
He’s brutal tonight. Coughing up pucks and passing to no one.
Easily knocked off the puck. He was more determined than that last year.
So MT, for next game, should send him to the rafters and put Eller in his place.
That way, everyone here gets what they want.
And Chucky’s line has to stay.
For those who criticized Prust, I would think you’ve changed your mind.
    This guy’s a keeper!
And Timo, my friend, our friend with the glass knee is doing just fine, thank you.

  18. HabinBurlington says:

Okay now I feel bad for Eller, if team closes this out in 3rd, him getting back in lineup just got tougher.

But…. 3rd period still to come, we all rememer last year too well.

  19. naweed235 says:

    Glad for Chucky
, Gallagher is one of the most intense forwards on the ice, he can stick around.
I hope Subban is watching this and has a little fire being lit under his butt… Not only he shouldn’t be holding out for a contract, he should understand that wearing a Habs Jersey is an honor.

  20. Sportfan says:

Newest controversy in Montreal who gets the puck?

  21. Habfan10912 says:

I had forgotten how good a player Markov is. I love to watch him get the puck out of his zone. What skill.

    • savethepuck says:

I think you were one of the handful like me that thought he was one of our better players Saturday night. The majority thought he looked slow, but I didn’t see that from him.

RDS saying that Therrien challenging the refs garnered that call. Refreshing? Like a pat on the backs of the players who just had a good shift.

They are, and they are saying: MB, look at this PP, and now imagine how much better it can be with PK.
I mean… if its good tonight, just wait until we have PK back.

Not all oysters produce pearls, thankfully, Price is a pearl producing oyster.

  72. Danno says:

    Hey Boone.

The hamsters than run around and turn the wheels of the HIO server are holding out for more money and a long term contract.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  73. Ice Storm says:

Diaz does look good on PP, no question…

  74. Boomer says:

great showing so far but they seriously need to stop being the most undisciplines team in the league. It can definately hurt them in the long run.
