Liveblog: First W of the season

Alex Galchenyuk
A night of firsts:
First win for Marc Bergevin as Canadiens general manager.
First win for Michel Therrien 2.0.
First NHL point for Brendan Gallagher.
And … all together now:
Get used to yelling that non-Canadian name.
The kid, chosen third overall in a draft that seems a long time ago, scored the first of what will be many, many NHL goals.
It gave the Canadiens a 4-1 lead in the second period and sent the Bell Centre faithful into a frenzy.

And what a night for HIO: 1,000-plus Comments on the second live blog of the season.

Hockey is back, eh?

  1. Led says:

That was a whole lot better! Who was that Bourque guy? Actually looked like a player who was interested.

    Keep it up boys!

  2. Blondie says:

Gotta say Prust and the rooks are looking good so far. I hope they can get some points out of it. They deserve a couple already.

  3. habs001 says:

This the way you to take out a team that played the night before and has excuse for not winning this game..and hopefully the game builds confidence…

  4. twilighthours says:

I don’t want to wade into the whole too-much-money-in-4th-line-players debate, but I would like to note:

watching White-Moen-Armstrong is infinitely more satisfying than watching Nokelainen-Palushaj-Other Random Scrub.

  5. HardHabits says:

Over/under on when the HIO website crashes tonight?

My hunch/analysis is that the live blog is a CPU and memory hog and is maxing out the HIO server.

  6. Boomer says:

I should have taken terasenko in my pool,

  7. Nina76 says:

We are doing fine soooooooo far Go Habs Go!!!!! The are playing better to nite have faith

  8. Mavid says:

    Selanne, Erat, Benn, Williams, Moulson???

  9. Hobie Hansen says:

Nice to see Bourque throw 3 or 4 big hits and give Plekanec all the time and space he needed on that first goal!

  10. piper says:

Looked to me like Gorges got him with the hip

  11. Sportfan says:

That was the dumbest tripping call I have ever seen.

  12. Marc10 says:

Watching the feed from Florida. What a farce.

Said Gorges stuck out the knee. Now saying Gorges is a tough customer and would be willing to go with Parros…

Seriously? What’s in the water in Florida?

  13. Haborama says:

    @BILL: the first rounder

    • Bill says:

Played four minutes, didn’t do too much. Gallagher having a better game for sure. But Galchenyuk hasn’t done anything bad or looked out of place.

  14. Bill says:

If the Habs can always play an opponent that was mediocre even before being exhausted and injury-riddled, they just might make it!

  15. HabinBurlington says:

Well team is playing very well. Granted Florida is a tired team, but the Habs are playing well. Would have been nice to see this effort against the Leafs.

  16. kmachabs27 says:

holy **** florida looks like absolute shit out there, worse then last night, but our boys put the pressure on them, keep it goinnnnnnnn

  17. temekuhabs says:

Good thing Prust is here, Parros would think twice

  18. HabFanSince72 says:

The Panthers will regret giving Kovalev a contract.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  19. Danno says:

    Dodged a bullet.

Still, that’s much more like it.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  20. commandant says:

    Great period.

Doesn’t get any better than that.

    Go Habs Go!

  21. temekuhabs says:

They were calling a dirty play on Gorges for the hit on the Fla broadcast..idk

  22. CharlieHodgeFan says:

Are the refs trying to get into one of that man’s movies?

  23. commandant says:

2 minutes for a body check?

  24. Haborama says:

    IT WAS A CLEAN HIT!!!!!!!!

proof that a clean hit by a hab will always be looked upon as a dirty hit, whereas a dirty hit by a non-hab will always be ignored……

  25. savethepuck says:

Looked like a clean hit to me

  29. EricInStL says:

Prediction, Gorges will have to answer the bell. No need to wake them up.

  30. neumann103 says:

On the HomerVision(TM) Florida Telecast they just mention that Panthers tickets start at $7 and free parking.

And I thought $90 for a pair of nosebleeds in Montreal sounded good!

    “Et le but!”

  31. HabFanSince72 says:

    How is that a pen?

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  32. HardHabits says:

Is that Kaberle I see playing with an adult hockey stick now?

  33. Chris says:

The fresh start and the off-season surgery for Bourque has been welcome.

I think people don’t quite appreciate how much seriously injuring another player can really affect a player’s psyche. Bourque ended up with two suspensions last season and landed a nasty concussion on Nicklas Backstrom.

With no baggage and no nagging injury, he could return to being the useful 2nd/3rd line winger he was in Calgary. He’ll still battle consistency, but he can play.

(For the record, I think ending Rob DiMaio’s career really messed up Latendresse’s development, far more than being promoted to the NHL too early).

    • Boomer says:

Yea, I got nothing to support it just a hunch, but I always thought Bourque had stuff going on in his head maybe stuff off ice that held him back. He seems to be good to go both physically and upstairs. I’m a fan when he’s on his game.

  34. Mavid says:

Alfredson, Jagr, Marleau, Getzlaf, or Krejci??

  35. HabinBurlington says:

Bourque playing great, gotta wonder how bad he was injured all last season with us.

Either that or Therrien connected with him, no can’t be that….

  36. Bill says:

Gallagher back in Clemmenson’s face … again …like him.

  38. PrimeTime says:

Some players play for the crest, some play for their teammates, and some play for themselves. PK is an example of how MB will build this team.

  39. Danno says:

Don’t plan the parade just yet, but put the panic button away for a little while

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  41. Haborama says:

How is Gally doing? I desperately want him to prove me dead wrong!

  42. twilighthours says:

And Desharnais made that goal by winning the battle on the boards, keeping the puck in, and making the pass while falling.

    I love that kid.

  43. EricInStL says:

If anyone bets, it seems in this shortened season, you always go against the team playing the 3rd game in 4 nights. This season will see so many injuries + crappy games as teams won’t be at 100% against each other.

  44. 24moreCups says:

YESSS HABS! Nice one by Markov! Hope Gally scores one.

  45. Mavid says:

guys..focus your suppose to be helping me..

    Malkin? yes..
Eberle,Baborik, Elias, Hossa, Thorton..I have Elias?

  46. savethepuck says:

Great shot by Markov. Glad to see him get the goal.

  47. CharlieHodgeFan says:

Markov has finish sounds way better than Markov is finished.

It was very nice to see one of those again.

Fun game to watch, so far.

  48. HardHabits says:

The Tankβ„’ just blew a caterpillar.

  49. Blondie says:

Markov on the power play, who’d a thunk it?

  50. Danno says:

    Got him in the pool!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  51. Rob Maguire says:

Just when I was about to criticize Markov for some poor passes, he hits the back of the net.

  57. durocher says:

    Mr Bean is back, baby!

  58. HabFab says:

So Diaz is our leading scorer?

  59. Bardya says:

    I hope Bourque scores.

  60. durocher says:

    Diaz > Kaberle

To be fair, Diaz > the kids who skate with the flags > Kaberle

  61. HabinBurlington says:

Rumour on street is Lecavalier for Luongo on the table.

  62. Blondie says:

    Bourque driving the net. Nice.

    More nice work by Bourque.

  65. durocher says:

Great rush by Bourque, that is what we need out of him

  66. twilighthours says:

This Rene Bork is unrecognizable to me. What a beast.

  67. L Elle says:

    Bork! Bork! Bork!

  68. Bill says:

Pacioretty is so strong, what an animal. Between him and Cole, DD’s small stature is no problem at all.

Can someone tell me if the game is on tv? What channel?!!!

  70. Mavid says:

crosby, stamkos, giroux, malkin, ovechkin..I am thinking Malkin?

  71. Habifax says:

Bourque looks like he took the twenty pound weight out of this pants since last year. skating well. now if he could just get kabby to check his pants we may be on to something. much better pace this game so far

  72. Haborama says:

never thought I would ever say this, but Borque looks great!

  73. punkster says:

    Clearly Eller was the problem/
