The kid, chosen third overall in a draft that seems a long time ago, scored the first of what will be many, many NHL goals.
It gave the Canadiens a 4-1 lead in the second period and sent the Bell Centre faithful into a frenzy.

Read a few comments on here tonight dismissing Eller and Leblanc as nothing more than potential third-liners … my question is what’s wrong with being a third-liner?
Guy Carbonneau played on the 3rd line his whole career and he was an excellent player and one of the team MVPs every year. If Leblanc or Eller could become something like that, it would be fantastic.
And I know it keeps getting asked, but someone want to tell me about all the top-six superstars who were drafted after the “wasted” Leblanc pick at 18th?

One of the reasons why a potential Therrien hiring had me worried even before it materialized was how vocal/unguarded I found him to be on L’Antichambre all last year regarding the team and especially certain players.
Everyone was down on Gomez, so no surprise he was harsh. But Eller , PK, Kaberle, and Cammalleri were regular targets of criticism.
He wasn’t alone and some of the stuff he was saying were often supported, but he could have been more diplomatic (the way some of those unemployed NBA or NFL coaches handle their duties on telecast). I am not sure it is a positive thing for a team to have a coach who’s on record as having publicly chided a good portion of the team.
It may not be the case, but for those who used to hear him express views on Eller, it feels like he’s basing his decision on more than that first game. On PK, who’s to say Therrien’s public comments on him might not be a factor in how long it’s taking the two sides to sign on the dotted line. I don’t know these things for a fact, but that’s the downside of being privy to the coach private opinions and perception of players.
Beyond these hypotheses, i think we can safely say that Therrien is from the JM school of hockey (loves ‘les joeurs robustes’ et les joueurs de ‘profondeur’, but very impatient with talented guys who don’t seem to put up points or block shots).
Whenever a team changes its coach, you hope the new guy is an innovator and a breath of fresh air, but I think what we have here is an instructeur de la vieille école, who’ll be making decisions like the one today more often than one would like. Again, these are observations that would stand whether we lost the first game or not. I hope nobody thinks I am sharing these reflections because of one loss.
I believe it was Therriens job to be critical, it’s what TV analysts do.

I just called Bell cause RDS HD disappeared when they changed me over to some new fangled “package” before Christmas. Assured me I’d keep all the same channels, and save money. So I notice no RDS, call them up and they want to charge me $15 for JUST RDS. o_0

I saw Gally get attacked by Komarov too, some leaf fans on twitter were having a blast about it and calling him “Galchicken”, it made my blood boil, so I can totally see where he is coming from. I like Chucky a lot and think he needs a little patience as his confidence grows.
