The usual suspects:
Max Pacioretty scored his 33rd, Erik Cole his 35th.
Brad Staubitz got a 200-foot empty-netter
And Tomas Plekanec got a 3-on-5 shorty.
Peter Budaj was really good.

• Gorges leads the NHL in blocked shots. As Don Cherry told Dave Stubbs:
“It’s one thing for guys to block shots when you’re on the march to the Stanley Cup, but it’s pretty tough to do it when you know you’re going nowhere,” Cherry said. “Guys usually say, ‘Forget it.’ But Gorges is going right to the end.”
Coming off knee surgery and playing against the opponent’s best forwards night after night, Gorges is plus-13 on a team that has lost 51 games.
Cherry is right: No disrespect to Brian Gionta, but number 26 should be wearing the “C”.
• On Friday night’s edition of L’Antichambre, Michel Bergeron – who usually gives it to the Canadiens pretty good – had high praise for Cunneyworth.
You can criticize strategy and decision like using Tomas Kaberle in a shootout, Bergeron said, but you have to admire Cunneyworth’s grace under pressure.
The coach knows he won’t be back behind the Canadiens’ bench next season. But Cunneyworth has comported himself with dignity, class and good humour.
He is a profoundly decent man, and I hope there’s still a good job for him in hockey.
Bergeron suggests before the Canadiens take the ice for their last game, someone – Gorges is the ideal candidate – should get up in the room and say “Let’s play our asses off and win this thing for Randy.”
There isn’t much else in the way of motivation.

So frankenstein punches Geoffrion in the face, and somehow Geoffrion gets a penalty too?
Geoffrion is right about that!
So brown gets nothing for a punch in a face after the whistle?
In the NHL, as long as you leave your glove on, you’re allowed to punch, grab, or facewash anyone’s face.
If you take your gloves off, it’s 5 minutes, even if you don’t do anything.
Makes sense, in Bizarro NHL World.
That Lucic’s favorite move. the sucker punch . nobody gets away with more….
Bruins 101.
Maybe some of us really can be GMs afterall.
Instead of firing Ron Wilson, wouldn’t it have been easier to just get the man a goalie? Doh!
Wow. Weak call much?
No penalty to the Leafs?
Phaneuf is such a pussy, takes his cheap shot swing . go get em Stauby!
Apparently no penalties against the leafs tonight.
some nice shifts by the boys here
What a season MaxPac is having, to be honest I never expected this much from him and am I ever glad he’s a Hab.
He’s great for the city on and off the ice and from what I’ve heard he’s loves being a Hab and wants to be one for a long time.
Hope we lock him up for a while.
i refuse to admit this was komisarek’s fault.
that was all pahneuf and gardiner.
kaberle sucks
Dear scienticians,
Please find a way to clone our top line by the start of the next season.
Sincerely,
Habs fans.
Max!!! Wow… Those Leafs.
Thanks Komisarek!
Max!
Woo hooo!
More cherry comments give it up Boone talk about anything else
Great video (especially of the Cole high-five and the hotties in the stands)

Good for Nova Scotia. They can have Cindy Lou …..
Props to Cherry… many of our young people learn about important things like Vimy Ridge from the Canadian truth rather than the USA view of the world. Be proud of our heritage.
Is anti-US stuff really necessary?
I didn’t say its anti-US. But often our sense of history is painted by a USA tilt, when it is not necessary. D-day is another example.
It’s misplaced, and doesn’t belong on a hockey broadcast, certainly not to the degree and frequency that it’s being done. It becomes false sentimentality, like a car dealership draped with flags.

Re tonight’s Coach Corner: wath was that?
If an alien has visited Canada, what would it thinks of us when we explain that this is the highest rated show in the country?
Ok, so this will be a bit long
Re: julien brisebois.
I have a very good connection inside the lightning organization. It’s the only connection I have; I don’t proclaim to be some sort of insider. But the things I hear from this person I take to be gospel.
The day of every TB home game, all the guys working in management for the team play some shinny hockey. Apparently, this means guys like yzerman and andreychuck right down to guys who are just learning to play. My guy says that brisebois has no idea how to play hockey. None. No skill, no sense. As if he never playd hockey grwoing up. Is this important? You decide.
Secondly, I asked my guy point-blank: will the lightning organization be worse off if he leaves? His answer was “no.”.
Just thought I share that with you guys. I’ll probably repost a few times over the next few days.
For what its worth, I am not sure Pollock was a hockey guy, as I recall he grew up with baseball as his passion.
But certainly interesting insight.
I think people within the Canadiens’ organization already have a good idea of what Brisebois has to offer. He spent a lot of time in Montreal and was even the GM of the Hamilton Bulldogs. If he knew nothing about hockey and was not valuable to an NHL organization, I think they would have figured that out already and he wouldn’t be among the leading candidates for the job.
Interesting. Thanks, T.
It doesn’t really detract from his candidacy. He doesn’t come advertised as a great former player like Patrick Roy or Steve Yzerman, or even a good pick up for your beer league team, but as a smart executive who has worked his way through the ranks to the Assistant GM position, and is now widely regarded throughout the league as a great GM in waiting.
I get a sense that he not being able to play hockey is the same as a film director not being able to act. Interesting in a way, but it doesn’t determine or predict anything.
Not to detract from your source, but there are lots of people who vouch for Mr. BriseBois, the latest being Gino Odjick on Thursday on l’Antichambre.

I’m glad you were able to eliminate him before Geoff made another mistake…tanks.
Boone: Cherry has props tonight: Easter eggs, a jersey, a hat. He’s Mr. Dressup.
He’s an eyesore. A foppish one at that.

That was worthy of Bazinga!
All those low hits and no Marchand and his low knee shots?

This blog would be so much better if Boone would dress like Cherry.
How do you know I don’t?

you wouldnt admit it if you did.
fuzzy peaches??
Not the love that Cherry shared.
Missed the first. Is Toronto tanking or just sucking?
Both team are putting on an incredible display of suckitude. It is truly a classic for a DVD collection.
Sucking, as usual.
Anyone looking at Cherry on Coaches Corner. That suit he has on is simply blinding, I have to look away from the screen. Lol.
Gotta give him props for looking like a joker on national telecast lol
My eyes are twitching
Like a Giant Ukranian Easter Egg!
Looking absolutely Faberge !!!

Looks like the Rangers rather play the Sens then the Caps.
Caps 4 – Rangers 0
Rangers mailing this one in…
Rants aren’t going anywhere, Kim. Maybe you are!?
I have to laugh at Kevin Weeks explaining to everyone the Bourque tripping penalty was a direct result from not having control of his stick and that this wouldn’t have happen if Bourque had control of his stick.
Wow?! Really? That is pretty insightful. Also, if Habs had 30 more points that’d be in the playoffs, so their not being in playoffs is a direct result of them no having 30 more points.
I do have to agree with Healy that Bourque’s body language after the call was pretty crappy and perhaps indicative of his attitude.
René Bourque needs a re-boot. Hopefully the summer off serves him well.

Yikes.
Belated April Fool’s joke?
Idiotic idea at best.
Yeah I feel sad and will miss all our rants and comments
@L Elle
But you will still have us. I mean the nice ones among us.
Amen to that.
40 more minutes of this season. Feeling mixed emotions.
Sad because there will be no hockey for a while.
Happy because this painful year is finally over.
So does Mayer start the second or wait until the third.
Intermission video… I would believe that it is the one that was shown at the Bell before the game:

Boone’s new best friend up next!
Holy crap, is it exciting or what?
Almost as much fun as it will be watching Phil choke tomorrow. And he will choke.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I have that same feeling, Dave.
Don’t say such things about figjam
In defense of Bourque, his stick was caught in the Leaf player’s skate. Just bad luck.
At least Bourque finally makes it onto the score sheet.
Man, if this team had a PP.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Bourque…
Someone put Healey out of his misery!
I’m going to miss Habs Hockey.
I know, can’t believe this is the last game of the regular season already.

Harvard of the West is Stansberry… Glen Healy needs to watch his Saved by the Bell
Intensity? I wouldn’t fault anybody for lack of intensity tonight.
Both of these teams would be better off losing this game and players know it.
For many of then, the wife has started packing the bags for a much-needed vacation. You escape this game with no injury and you can have a nice easy summer. Players are human.
Boone said Rosehill was dressed for the Leafs, has anyone seen him yet?
Holy Cow, somehow I get the impression that when Mike Brown’s career as a thug is over the CBC can’t wait to hire him!
Palushaj does have NHL speed, just has to work on his finish.
Cheap shot by Brown from behind on Markov!
Not much intensity in this game tonight…
I agree, kind of boring. Hope the next 2 periods have more action.
Don’t play Markov against guys like Brown….
When does Burkie get fired? His team is a joke.
Oh Desharnais, so much skill and intelligence!
St-Denis continues to look like he belongs
I prefer him over Weber and maybe Diaz, plus he’s a hometown boy with another feel good story like DD.
I’d love to know how many shorthanded break aways Pleks has had this year…
I still remember Pleky’s breakaway goal when he came out of the penalty box from a great play by Koivu against Vancouver, back in ’09 season I think.
Loved that goal. SH on a 5-3. So nice. (Okay, so he actually fanned on the shot, but lol so what)
“Hey, someone throw a beer at Glenn Healey”
Not at the price they charge.

I think Boone is willing to buy it for the Patron (sorry in Masters mode here) who chucks it at Healey, provided they strike the target.
Okay, that’s a different story. If I was there, I’d do it. As long as Boone gets me a good lawyer.

Pleky’s shorty on a 5-on-3… Slap the C on this man now!
Heart and Soul never gets as much applause as God Given Talent…
Either give Plaks some real wingers or take more penalties so he at least gets some scoring chances.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Man I hate how RDS looses the game clock all the time!
Markov getting more PK time, he continues to improve, good sign!!
Is that Campoli or Gill ?

And boom goes the Plekanec !!!

Awesome.
That is all.
Pleky!!! Is it me or does he get a breakaway about every game?
Baaaahaha! Scoring a shortie on a 5 on 3!
One of the hilites of the season. LMAO
That’s the secret. Don’t shoot, slide the puck.
