We’ve got a series.
L.A. finally loses a road game in the playoffs.
And game 6 goes Monday night at the Staples Centre.
The great Martin Brodeur made 25 saves – nine in the third period as L.A. poured on the pressure. The kings hit the post three times.
The Devils have beaten L.A. as often as Vancouver, St. Louis and Phoenix combined.
Jonathan Quick had not lost two in a row since March 26.
Has a seed of doubt been planted in the minds of the erstwhile playoff juggernaut?

I heard that Kovy has an injured back since the second series. CBC are morons.
agreed. I read somewhere he is playing at 50% cause of his injury
I think Parise is playing on a swollen ankle. They probably freeze it and wrap it tight before the game.
I would imagine so.. He is gonna get a fat paycheck next year

Hey Boone,
If Nail and Galchenyuk are picked 1 and 2 by Edmonton and Columbus. Would you trade the 3rd pick to Toronto for their 5th and Schenn. Just asking as you brought it up.
Yes I would. However if Galchenyuk is gone, I don’t think the Leafs will trade up
I suggested that very trade a few weeks ago. I think I would consider it if I knew for a fact that Forsberg and Grigorenko were the real deal.
I don’t see Toronto going for it though.
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
In a heartbeat. That trade would be awesome with absolutely no downside.
having Schenn the defensive nightmare/giveaway machine on our blueline would be a downside IMO.
I think you underestimate Schenn. Kid is young He is gonna get better, and Toronto will regret trading him if they do
I’ve watched him pretty close. He’s horrible. But to each their own.
I think he will Shine under Carlyle. Wilson’s System leaves the defense out to dry. Under Carlyle I believe he will bounce back and be a stud. Just my thoughts though
Let me be fair, he throws big hits and he fights. He’s commendable for that. But like I said, I watched him pretty close the last two seasons and I found him to be just horrible with the puck and really prone to giveaways. Not trying to be mean, it’s just my opinion. I also think with the Habs deep in D prospects it doesn’t make sense to acquire Schenn. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I enjoy listening to different perspectives.
You’re right he has been bad, but he’s still very young.
–
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
I think he is young and can improve. He has been bad when it comes to punkhandling. However, If you play him with Markov. I think it would work beautifully
Someone explain Henwick/Corsi thing to me, please.
Henwick Corsi is the lesser known brother of Fenwick Corsi, a player almost as god-like as Gomez.

Eventually that’s what will happen. They will have to trade one of their young guns. That’s why they don’t need to worry about drafting a D-man. They can target one when they have to trade Eberle or Hall or Nugent-Hopkins. All those guys would command a kings ransom.

It’s all up to Edmonton
If they draft Murray, then we get either Yakupov or Galchenyuk, one of two stud forwards. Even if Colombus takes Galchenyuk, we still run away with Yakupov.
If they take Yakupov, then were in for a crapshoot.
Never before in the history of the NHL has the future of one team been so dependent on the choices of another.
Yakupov
Galchenyuk
Then we’ll need to pick one of Forsberg or Grigorenko

Is Marc Bergevin a genius? I give you the following:
Item 1:
Qustion to Marc: How are the discussions going with your two key RFA’S.
Answer: Quite well.. we are real close to signing one of them… I wont reveal which one.
Outcome: If it is P.K, Price picks up the phone and tells his agent to get it done. He doesnt want to look like he is playing hardball.
If it is Price, P.K does the same.
If it is neither two agents get called by anxious clients.
Result: Marc has his two RFA’s thinking I better sign and they come in at the low to middle of the expected range. Genius.
Item 2: Hires his coach whom he knows but does not give his coach carte blanche re assistants. Search for assistants seem unusually long and open project.. not normal if left only to the head coach.
Makes for more complete coaching tandem and gives Therrien sufficient ‘hint’ that a power trip my way or no way aint gonna be tolerated. Genius.
Add the intriguing week-old flight arrangements being reported by one airline of a customer having booked a seat with weird conditions. Customer would be flying direct from Newark to Montreal or LA to Montreal. Hurrying out of Newark is expected but who rushes to leave LA near midnight LA time. Curious eh!
What’s this about the flight arangements?
Also I don’t think players/agents really care that much what happens to other players. They’ll be looking for their money.
—————-
Me skull and crossbones arn’t the only thing I plan on raisin’ tonight.
I really do see it as a vindication of Bergevin’s smarts. He is ‘putting together’ a coaching team. I have accepted his hire of Therrien as based on his good judgement and knowledge of a friend whom he can talk to. The ‘process’ over the assistant/s gives me confidence… a lot of confidence.
I made the airline part of… let’s just say the bookings are for a seat with lots of leg room.
Trini, would you reckon that the non-autonomy over assistant appointments might have something to do with foreshadowing a possible succession scenario?
Sorry Mike I answered in the wrong place.. see above. I dont believe that the assistant would be chosen based on the future but based on filling ‘coaching functions’ to get the team better now.

As a complete amateur who has no expertise save for reading other people’s opinions, I have to trust Trevor Timmins’ staff, but if pressed to voice a rooting interest, I would be happy with:
1st round: Alex Galchenyuk or Mikhail Grigorenko. Mr. Galchenyuk seems to be more mature, but I sense Mikhail Grigorenko might have more skill and more upside, especially if he develops the work habits of his counterpart. Either or, I’m happy.
2nd round, #32: I would be happy with any of Michael Matheson, Stefan Matteau or Martin Frk, probably in that order. I know more of these guys since they have a local connection, and I value that connection. Nothing wrong with the Matheson kid, good size, good head on his shoulders, good family background and great skating. Stefan Matteau has good bloodlines, great size and strength for a teenager, is coming to play in the LHJMQ for the Armada, and is proud of his Québec roots. Martin Frk dropped a little bit from where he was projected at the start of the season, but has great skills and size, and would add talent to a system that doesn’t have a lot of it in terms of scoring forwards.
2nd round, #50: Out of ideas here, maybe the best available goalie? Maybe let the experts make that choice.

In the very long view, it is important that kids growing up in Québec love the Canadiens and recognize themselves in the team, and a bit of the team in themselves. There must be a strong, visceral, emotional connection between the fans and leurs Glorieux.

I disagree with the Fournier pick.
He was over rated at the Q draft, when he went 1st overall.
He’s always been a good player, but never great.
If the Habs have scouted him properly they will pass.
Personally I’m going to wait until Trevor does his. In the meantime it is something to look at. I would like more after his first two.
That Simmons article was great. I hope to share such moments with my daughter or son some day. Hope neither of them are habs fans, though. Been too hard around here these past 19 years.
Also, regarding Michel therrien, I’m trying to find the positives. Here’s the only one I can think of: he might make us a tougher team. Lord knows we could use a little more of that.
The Habs HAVE to draft a big centre and not the best player available and the proof follows. Without these big centres their teams would NEVER have won a cup. Not the main reason their teams won the cup but sure had a part in it.
Man these guys were huge!!!
Toe Blake
Dickie Moore
Henri Richard
Jacques Lemaire
Doug Jarvis (bst face-off man and penalty killer of his time)\
Guy Carbonneau (see above. puck possesion is pretty important)
Esposito (big but do you think Orr had anything to do with it?)
Bobby Clarke (big stick not big stature)
Brian Trottier (only 6′ 190 lbs you can look it up)
Gretzky (yeah he was a mammoth)
Messier (big heart not big height)
Datzyk (my spelling sucks)
Elias
Joe Thornton (how many cups???)
Malkin & Stall (even with the other guys, what’s his name again, one cup)
Modano (good size, 20 years, one cup)
Yeah, I guess it’s important that the Habs draft a BIG centre. Got to have one to win the cup
Lots of beauts on your list!
And I want to agree with you, but I’m hesitant because maybe the game has changed in terms of size, speed and tactics. Maybe we do in fact need at least one, possibly two big centres.
Or, if you’re right, we draft/trade/purchase for talent rather than size, and watch Montreal change the game rather than the game change Montreal.
You are correct that the game has changed and that is why I included Modano (1 cup in 20 years), Thornton ( 0 cups), Malkin & Stall ( 1 cup between them). These are modern day players. Big ain’t better. Not trying to argue just sayin’.
Ryan Murray sure looks good to me and we can move someone to get a big body if need be.
If the centres that are out there in the top 5 are gonna make a difference, for sure Bergevin should call out there name. NOT just because they are centres but because they are the best player available. Waddya think?
I remember lemaire to lafleur who beats Cheevers far side. What a moment in time
If that was a wrister, in Boston, to GC’s right, then I remember it too. Jordan would never have anything to equal my hang-time on that occasion!
As for drafts and the old dilemma re. picking best players or picking what you need, I’m afraid I sit on the fence. Sorry. Your point is very well made, but I think I will be praying for at least genuine goal-scorer.
Go Devils!!
Let’s hope the Kings will finish off the Devils tonight.
LA has only dominated one game in this series.
Games 1 and 2 could have gone either way.
Devils win tonight, it’s a series.
I want this for Marty.
(But Richards and Carter aside — not to mention Bettman’s desires for California — there’s actually plenty to like on the Kings.)
So am I the only one who wants to see RDS broadcasting some Hamilton Bulldogs games next season? Especially with the NHL lockout looming, I’d love to see the Nouvelle Vague™ (Tinordi, Ellis, Bournival, Pateryn, Beaulieu, Holland) playing next season, as well as guys like Alexander Avtsin, Joonas Nattinen and Gabriel Dumont.
A quick search on the Google machine didn’t show any problems with the TV rights, certainly not in French, so there should be no problem.
For RDS, it would seem to me to be a much better draw than strongman competitions and basketball and other nonsense.

Great idea and you gave excellent reasons why. I’ll watch exactly for the players you mentioned.
Don’t forget Poker.

I got a hunch that Jersey has starting to figure them out!
L.A. has by far the better TEAM play so far this year! But Jersey is learning how they have to play them to be successful. It is going to be a boring close one again, me thinks.
I’ll be watching! Enjoy!
What was this all about Brisbois coming aboard the other day.? Just someone’s hot air or what!
Maybe, or maybe they finally got lucky. The first two games were real squeakers, the Devils hit a few posts, could have gone either way. They could have packed it in on Wednesday but they fought bravely and get another chance at it tonight.

In the very long view, it is important that kids growing up in Québec love the Canadiens and recognize themselves in the team, and a bit of the team in themselves. There must be a strong, visceral, emotional connection between the fans and leurs Glorieux.

Eleven comments? The enthusiasm is overwhelming me.

I think he is a string! adding one pearl at a time my friend!
Bergevin and Therrien to have meeting over weekend. If MT gets his wish, Gomez has played his last game in #Canadiens uniform!
Has therrien ever came out and said he doesnt like gomez?
Don’t believe 14 year olds posting on twitter from their parent’s basement.
Though its likely Gomez has played his last game as a Hab, these guys are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and posting for attention.

Long live Captain Gionta.
Kings are my backup team but I want them to lose tonight so they can hoist the cup at home infront of their fans… it seems like it’s been a long time I haven’t seen the home team win the cup…
btw, did I miss any Gomez jokes earlier? you know since he scored the winner for Germany
Is anyone else watching the last professional hockey game to ever be played in the city of Toronto in the month of June? Marlies down 3-1 going into the 3rd and down 3-0 in the series.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”

6-1 final, and the Marlies are done.

And whose team won anyhow…
Will Puddy be at tonight’s game……
of course. “Gotta support the team!!”
You forgot Newman, Jerry, Kramer and George.

Au contraire, mon frère, Newman and George weren’t at that game. It was only Puddy, Jerry, Kramer, and three of Puddy’s buddies who were there, supporting the team.

True that. Still, Newman and George would have been a nice addition.

Shirtless George and Newman were probably not in NBC’s best interest when it comes to ratings.

What about the episode with the black guy at the photo developing shop? The slide show at the post office?

10 wins on the road in one playoffs is incredible…. 11 tonight?
It only takes 16 wins for the cup.
