Dustin Penner ends a great game a little over 17 minutes into OT.
Los Angeles advances to the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 1993.
The series will begin May 30.
Phoenix battled to the end, but the Kings are unbeaten on the road, 8-0 in these playoffs.
A capacity crowd in Glendale were treated to a dandy in the desert.
The game had 92 shots on goal, 98 hits, temper tantrums in OT and a less-than-warm handshake line.
And let’s hope some of that wide-open style carries over to the final.

Coyotes played with a lot of heart, but were severely challenged in the goal-producing department.

Freakin’ Yeah! The evil name of Gary Buttman will NOT be on the Stanley Cup this year! Whoooooooo!
Yeah, but still he’s the Commissioner of the NHL once this season is over.
Wow, it’s not like Brown clubed a baby seal to death at center ice.
There’s been dirtier hits in almost every game of the Playoffs. Hope Roseval is OK but this wasn’t bloody murder, everyone needs to relax…
The habsinsideout circlejerk is alive and well tonight. Yeah the Brown hit was dirty. But so were hits by Doan and Hanzel earlier in the series. This stuff happens on both sides. Had the Coyotes won, Brown may very well have been suspended. Unfortunately, Phoenix was outplayed for a large majority of the series and in the end, the Kings deserved to win.
L.A. ate the coyote all series….4 – 1,NO CONTEST!
shf, no one is posting that the Brown hit was dirty AND the hits by Doan and Hanzel were fine. So your point is irrelevant.
The outrage you sense and misapprehend is about seeing YET ANOTHER dirty hit that was not punished by the refs, in a long line of other hits and dangerous plays that weren’t punished. You’re sensing frustration, exasperation at the futility of the NHL’s attempts to referee its games, enforce its own rules, and provide the fans with a spectacle that will dazzle the eye and capture the heart, with skill and flair. Instead we get trench warfare and thuggery.

In the very long view, it is important that kids growing up in Québec love the Canadiens and recognize themselves in the team, and a bit of the team in themselves. There must be a strong, visceral, emotional connection between the fans and leurs Glorieux.

Hopefully Rosival is not seriously injured as he is a UFA this summer not much of demand for his services if he has a serious injury as an older player……
Maclean is now saying it wasn’t a dirty hit!
So pathetic!
If I hadn’t seen better it would be certain that Buttman’s fixers Chris F Lee and Kevin F Pollock were involved in this debacle together!
Ron MacLean now saying the knee on knee by Dustin Brown wasn’t intentional. Ridiculous. Whenever a player lines another one up like that, face-to-face, the intended target always moves out of the way and the knee-on-knee results.
This type of play should be a strict liability offence: if you cause a knee-on-knee, you’re ejected and suspended. Like when you clear the puck into the stands or jump off the bench to start a fight. The referee shouldn’t have to read the offending player’s thoughts and factor in whether he’s a good guy and what the score of the game is.
If players know that they’ll be punished, they won’t persist on trying to low-percentage probability bodycheck. When the guy ducks, you let him go instead of sticking out your knee or elbow. Better yet, don’t line a guy up face to face. It won’t work, the guy will see you coming, and more often than not, you’ll get suspended.
Why is it so hard for the NHL to get that?

How about signing Taylor Pyatt?
Useful guy, did well with the Canucks. I’d be in favour.

love Taylor Pyatt!!!!
Wow! Proof, once again, that when it comes to sport, there is no such thing as karma or sports gods. Disgusting knee on knee by Brown.
The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!
and of course the CBC approves! disgusting
The Montreal Canadiens: sporting the best AND worst fans since 1909!
Common, what about Doans hit from behind or the Hanzal hit from behind? Wheres the karma there? Yotes were outplayed the entire series.
not disputing that. And the Kings deserve to win the series. But for them to win immediately after a dirty dirty hit is just cruel for the Coyotes and their fans, and another example of the lack of karmic justice in sport. Kinda like Chara raising the Cup the year he almost ends a guys career. That’s all i’m saying.
I believe in living the right way and always doing the right thing. I believe that if people abide by this way of living, it translates to the best possible outcome for everyone. However, sport is the one realm where I have never seen this way of living rewarded. The cheaters, the dirty teams, the people who break the rules, always seem to come out on top. it’s unfortunate

Exactly what I was thinking. (inna dimmer, less words, no talky as much, way)
Were penalties called on Doan ?
Was Hanzal suspended?
The non calls are what is disgusting!
Instant replay of the Broons last year! Two sets of rules so they can win!

I think LA is a very good playoff team. And this game in particular is quite good.
Butman’s wet dream is half way!

It’s the NHL, we’re not surprised right ?
Wasn’t brown on the bench anyways? I mean i guess he probably should of got a 2 min for that but Kings still would of won, it was just a matter of time.
And that Penner goal was for all the winners here that thought he was a loser…hah!
3 goals in 14 playoff games.

The handshake line should be interesting
A dirty hit and no call AGAIN!
Cheap Shot Brown…..
And then there were two behind Tippett!
Doughty isn’t into the Live Blog either.
Hahahah timo! But seriously… Never knew the flavours in the desert were so… delectable?
Gutless officials should have been 10 as well!
Yes Doughty, feel the anger. Let it course through your veins.
Nice!

He plays like rosebud!

Obviously the Coyotes are going to score on their first shot on net
You guys on the east coast are still awake? Heck of a game. My first in probably a couple of weeks.
My picks are Stall for LA and Bedcker (sp) for Yotes.
Boone, those thousand emails from the Crackberry chick are no doubt smiley faces, LOL, and such.

This game will probably go on for a long double overtime, just what Boone wants, I’m sure.

On one side, grateful member of the commentariat thanking Boone for his hard work. On the other, PrimeTime – the one who for some reason has a problem with the liveblog.
God save the HIO
Phoenix back-end looks spent!
Roseval looks like he’s skating on mud!
