A third-period goal by Tomas Plekanec, on the deadly Canadiens power-play, was the only goal of the third period.
Carey Price, who was shaky on the first couple Jets’ goals, made huge saves down the stretch.
Canadiens penalty-kill was great late, when it had to be.
Brendan Gallagher, with a goal and an assist, was the game’s First Star.
His linemate, Alex Galchenyuk, had two assists and was Second Star.

So good to see that benching Eller after the first game really paid off. He’s flying around the ice, moving the puck with ease and has really adjusted well to Therrien trying to completely overhaul the kind of player he is.

OK, so I came on at 2-0 and in less than 5 minutes it’s 2-2. WTF? A quick start and they are falling apart. Any idea gents, what going on with this team? Lack of follow-through? Not enough wheels? I don’t get it. They have the parts but can’t seem to hold onto a lead except for the one 4-1 game. Not jumping off the bandwagon, but I’d love to see a full 60 minutes!

The team’s penalty kill is as bad as the powerplay is good.
They’re far too aggressive on the penalty kill. Too many goals coming from the backdoor area because nobody’s defending an area even close to it on this penalty kill.

Team needs to work on the pk, usually a strength for this team. 14th in league going into tonight before that goal in the 1st. Is it just a matter of getting PK back to log more of those shorthanded minutes, or maybe our pp is kicking their buts so bad in practice, they have no confidence.

Wonder how much room PK will take up now seeing as he is back after telling some of his team-mates towards the end of last season that he would be back with the salary of Drew Doughty to start the season ?

Why PK would say this to a teammate who’s earning less is beyond me. Don’t let the smile fool you, PK is a smart kid.
I am going to say Benoit has his sources, I also know PK downtown is a real party animal and this is a well known fact, I really hope the kid can settle down and make a good run at it here, but there is a lot of work ahead for the coaching staff.
Pk, a party animal, eh? Suppose that is true. Who wasn’t at age 23, especially young millionnaires? One thing I know, nobody works harder at practice or plays harder in games. That’s good enough for me.
If I’m not mistaken there have been similar rumors about every young player in Montreal. Wait Cammi wasn’t even a young player. What should matter is dedication to your craft and contribution to the team. I think PK is stellar in those departments.
The Moen-Thorburn fight is a perfect example of the kinds of fights that shouldn’t be in hockey. A fight about nothing.
If someone takes a cheap shot at a team-mate and Ryan White dusts him up, no problem. But picking a fight because you get scored on? Refs should’ve tossed Thorburn. They tossed White and at least he had a reason.

What annoys me more is the people who will say that that fight changed the tempo of the game or sent the team a message. Right.
Whether it works or not, coaches use that tactic to try and get the adrenalin of the team jacked up.
It’s because, like all ref’s, they have an unnatural hatred for the Canadiens.
One of the things I like about MT’s system versus JM’s is with MT a player will come out of nowhere and rush the opposing player carrying the puck, especially if he is being stymied, to challenge him causing a turn over. This is something the Habs did during their 3 2/3 games winning streak last season. JM would have none of that.
I like Gallagher. He plays physical but for his size is bouncing off people a lot. He keeps coming back for more and shuts every body up by scoring. How can you not like him.
When it’s garbage time it’s nice to have 3-4 guys on the team that can actually fight. Even without a bonafide heavy weight the Habs are to a man grittier than they’ve been for a while.
Price is a little bit too non-chalant for my liking sometimes. I would like to see him get not necessarily more aggressive but certainly more assertive with his play. Maybe a little less Zen Koan and a bit more Will to Power.
How about just passive-aggressive?
Is it just me, or does everyone look very organized for breakouts, and plays thru neutral zone and also cycling in O zone…? Big buy-in, and well-coached… PK will have some serious homework to contend with! Impressive considering no training camp to speak of….
PK said he’s been watching. If I can see the difference with this system (how defenders use short passes to move the puck out of the defensive zone, instead of carrying it, latitude to pitch on reads), PK surely can see it. I think he’ll be fine.

One thing I don’t love about Markov’s game so far this year is the way he gambles at the blue line when the opponent is trying to gain the zone. He stands up and tries to pick the puck. Happened there and led to the penalty.
