Liveblog: Another W; Jets grounded 4-3

That’s four in a row for your mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Best thing was it didn’t come easily.
The Winnipeg Jets, who were ridding a three-game winning streak of their own, fell behind 2-0 before battling back to take the lead.
A third-period goal by Tomas Plekanec, on the deadly Canadiens power-play, was the only goal of the third period.
Carey Price, who was shaky on the first couple Jets’ goals, made huge saves down the stretch.
Canadiens penalty-kill was great late, when it had to be.

Brendan Gallagher, with a goal and an assist, was the game’s First Star.

His linemate, Alex Galchenyuk, had two assists and was Second Star.

On to Ottawa.

    Deharnais is killing me

  2. HardHabits says:

So when does DD get benched?

  3. Propwash says:

    Price was weak on that

  4. Stevie.Ray says:

DD didn’t turn the puck over like that last season

  5. Gotta say it… Price is looking very regular tonight… and that is a big concern carrying over from every year. He’s up and down.

  6. Ice Storm says:

Weak weak weak by Desharnais… Seriously!?!

  7. SuperHabFan says:

    Another horrible DD play

  8. Habbu says:

That’s on DD….weak giveaway in the O zone

  9. Strummer says:

    Holy Jokinen!

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  10. Danno says:

    Thanks refs

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  11. Stormin says:

DD is horrible so far this year

  12. Haberoooo13 says:

    DD hmmmmm

Na Na Na Les Canadiens Les Canadiens

  13. Ice Storm says:

    Now THAT’S A PENALTY!!!!

    Holy f!

  14. frontenac1 says:

@Stormin. A friend of mine from Sask said it was so flat where he grew up that he watched his dog run away for Three Days.

  15. HabinBurlington says:

That has to be delay of game.

  16. Danno says:

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  17. Propwash says:

    THATS tripping????

  18. Habbu says:

    What a trip…..

  19. Habbu says:

    What a pass…..

  20. shootdapuck says:

What has happened to the PK?(not the newly contracted one)

    Looks ineffective !

  21. Ice Storm says:

Wow… Chuckles pass did everything but go in the goal by itself… Enough bar clanging already!!! Sweet play

  22. Propwash says:

    Gaah another post!

  23. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

    this is last years team………

blown leads, sloppy play, we might as well have PG in the box…..

  24. L Elle says:

    It’s all Perry Pearn’s fault. πŸ˜‰

  25. Don Carnage says:

I love how when we get news from any french source some folk around here backhand it off as garbage just because it is from the french side, there are some very good people on RDS.

  26. Stormin says:

Eller reminds me of an owner looking for his lost dog

  27. PrimeTime says:

It’s over!! Blow the team up

  28. Loonie says:

So good to see that benching Eller after the first game really paid off. He’s flying around the ice, moving the puck with ease and has really adjusted well to Therrien trying to completely overhaul the kind of player he is.

  29. Stormin says:

    No PK is killing us

  30. jo_maka says:

So…..not sure if anyone pointed it out but: Galchenyuk is actually having 4 pts in 5 games ? πŸ™‚

  31. OK, so I came on at 2-0 and in less than 5 minutes it’s 2-2. WTF? A quick start and they are falling apart. Any idea gents, what going on with this team? Lack of follow-through? Not enough wheels? I don’t get it. They have the parts but can’t seem to hold onto a lead except for the one 4-1 game. Not jumping off the bandwagon, but I’d love to see a full 60 minutes!

  32. sreuel says:

If Cole starts to score then things should be ok. If Eller is benched this period don’t see him next game

  33. habstrinifan says:

“A decent shift would be nice round about now”.. kinda harsh isnt it?

  34. HabinBurlington says:

Wow, just got home after watching first period at bar. Glad to read so many people have taken the medias quotes the way they have.

How dare a professional team be more concerned about the next game they are still playing without PK.

Obviously the guys know he is rejoining, obviously they know MB has stated how important it was for PK to be signed.

My goodness, how dare this team continue to be a team prior to the return of PK.

  35. HNS says:

Price is definitely the weakest link.

  36. PrimeTime says:

“What do you like on your hot dogs Mr Eller?”

  37. saku1133 says:

Maybe they can package weber, Armstrong and Ellen up for some sundries

  38. Loonie says:

The team’s penalty kill is as bad as the powerplay is good.

They’re far too aggressive on the penalty kill. Too many goals coming from the backdoor area because nobody’s defending an area even close to it on this penalty kill.

  39. jctremblay says:

Well.that sucks eggs…a post at one end..and a game of pinball at the other..

  40. anotherhab says:

Oops, have not posted in a while…
what I wanted to post was….

Now if we could only win a faceoff…my only complaint!

“I find your lack of faith disturbing” Darth V

  41. Propwash says:

    Soooo close!

  42. frontenac1 says:

Ah Jeeze Lars,Mike won’t like that one.

  43. saku1133 says:

Please don’t put Armstrong on this pk

  44. savethepuck says:

Team needs to work on the pk, usually a strength for this team. 14th in league going into tonight before that goal in the 1st. Is it just a matter of getting PK back to log more of those shorthanded minutes, or maybe our pp is kicking their buts so bad in practice, they have no confidence.

“I find your lack of faith disturbing” Darth V

  46. Hobie Hansen says:

The game started off a bit slow. White, Prust and company start throwing the body around, crowd gets into it and next you know we score two goals. Good first.

  47. saku1133 says:

I’m sorry, but I have really seen too much of Colby Armstrong.

  48. Don Carnage says:

Wonder how much room PK will take up now seeing as he is back after telling some of his team-mates towards the end of last season that he would be back with the salary of Drew Doughty to start the season ?

    • habsfaninboston says:

    • Adidess says:

Don’t repeat everything you hear! I heard Benoit say this but is this gossip or news? He threw it in at the end of the segment.

Why PK would say this to a teammate who’s earning less is beyond me. Don’t let the smile fool you, PK is a smart kid.

      • Don Carnage says:

I am going to say Benoit has his sources, I also know PK downtown is a real party animal and this is a well known fact, I really hope the kid can settle down and make a good run at it here, but there is a lot of work ahead for the coaching staff.

        • Adidess says:

Pk, a party animal, eh? Suppose that is true. Who wasn’t at age 23, especially young millionnaires? One thing I know, nobody works harder at practice or plays harder in games. That’s good enough for me.

If I’m not mistaken there have been similar rumors about every young player in Montreal. Wait Cammi wasn’t even a young player. What should matter is dedication to your craft and contribution to the team. I think PK is stellar in those departments.

  49. Bill says:

The Moen-Thorburn fight is a perfect example of the kinds of fights that shouldn’t be in hockey. A fight about nothing.

If someone takes a cheap shot at a team-mate and Ryan White dusts him up, no problem. But picking a fight because you get scored on? Refs should’ve tossed Thorburn. They tossed White and at least he had a reason.

  50. HardHabits says:

One of the things I like about MT’s system versus JM’s is with MT a player will come out of nowhere and rush the opposing player carrying the puck, especially if he is being stymied, to challenge him causing a turn over. This is something the Habs did during their 3 2/3 games winning streak last season. JM would have none of that.

I like Gallagher. He plays physical but for his size is bouncing off people a lot. He keeps coming back for more and shuts every body up by scoring. How can you not like him.

When it’s garbage time it’s nice to have 3-4 guys on the team that can actually fight. Even without a bonafide heavy weight the Habs are to a man grittier than they’ve been for a while.

Price is a little bit too non-chalant for my liking sometimes. I would like to see him get not necessarily more aggressive but certainly more assertive with his play. Maybe a little less Zen Koan and a bit more Will to Power.

  51. Ice Storm says:

Is it just me, or does everyone look very organized for breakouts, and plays thru neutral zone and also cycling in O zone…? Big buy-in, and well-coached… PK will have some serious homework to contend with! Impressive considering no training camp to speak of….

    • Adidess says:

PK said he’s been watching. If I can see the difference with this system (how defenders use short passes to move the puck out of the defensive zone, instead of carrying it, latitude to pitch on reads), PK surely can see it. I think he’ll be fine.

  52. athanor says:

    I’m confused, Mr. Boone.

Is tonight’s game not a road game for Winnipeg? Because Montreal is 200 or so kilometres closer to Winnipeg than Washington is.

Not to mention Toronto or Ottawa.

  53. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

Moen should generally refrain from fighting……….

that brought back unpleasant memories of Komisarek……..

    • Bill says:

Moen at least answers the bell and, unlike Komisarek, he knows how to protect himself.

Komisarek basically just shouldn’t fight Lucik, but then, few should.

Never underestimate the role of an agent in boosting his clients already big ego.

I was going to write about PK but jeez I am soooooo tired of seeing Serge Savard. Enough already, are they the only company who advertises on RDS ? Comon get more advertisers, I can’t take it anymore…..

  55. Propwash says:

    S*** happens.

    Onwards to 2nd period.

  56. Gally reminds me of Randy Burridge. Keep er goin Gally!!!

  57. Ice Storm says:

    @habsoloutely… Wellfed… Nice!
    Made me actually lol. Thanks!

  58. Stormin says:

Anyone who does not understand how important Josh Gorges is to building a winning team, should go play with their Hockey Cards

  59. phillyhab says:

Rene Borque: welcome back to the highlight reel.
Gorges save: play of the season thus far.
Therrien saying PK needs to “join” the team before he plays with it: genius. The squad looks tight — seems like the best move to avoid a ‘room’ problem.

  60. Ice Storm says:

Gmen and roommates, Gorges and Gallagher stars of the first…
Great goal also by Bourque who has played well, but with that boost of confidence should continue to elevate his game… Exciting, especially with Cammys lousy start in Cowtown…

  61. Adidess says:

RDS back on Subban to open intermission, with team leading 2-1 and two great goals by our team. My God!

  62. L Elle says:

WHO CARES! It was only his 8th goal against. A softie as well as a hardie (?) is still a goal against.

Edit: meant to be a reply to that Tippy guy

  63. badbalance says:

People…. Just add exnordic group on facebook.. They always post when their stream is up and other people in hat group post good links for havs feeds

  64. CharlieHodgeFan says:

Mmm, double negative. They know something…

Wow – I replied to tippy, but he/she was off quicker than a Gallagher wrister…

  65. otter649 says:

FrankieB & Gorges make a scary duo from time to time especially on PK…..

  66. PeriodPain says:

Price making it more interesting than I’d like

  67. NLhabsfan says:

Price needs a wake up call…

  68. Rudy says:

See Carey give Josh a thank you pat there

  69. The Jackal says:

    Gonna be an intense game.
Glad to see the boys are fighting back and not giving up.
We got unlucky on that goal, lucky bounce, but it happens. We’ll be getting it back soon anyway πŸ˜‰
That last sequence was extremely lucky too, man we got saved by Gorges.

  70. Stormin says:

What a great play by the unofficial captain of the Habs, way to bail out a buzzed Carey Price

  71. twilighthours says:

One thing I don’t love about Markov’s game so far this year is the way he gambles at the blue line when the opponent is trying to gain the zone. He stands up and tries to pick the puck. Happened there and led to the penalty.

  72. McKanadiens says:

    Gorges earns every penny…
