Liveblog: Man, they needed that!

Goal cellebration
Who are these guys?
The team that can’t score popped three in the second period to bust a tight game open.
Max Pacioretty, Mike Blunden (off a lovely pass by Scott Gomez) and David Desharnais, completing a tic-tac-toe play with his wingers, were the scorers.
Ron Reusch: “Put Lundqvist in here every night and the Canadiens would be undefeated.”
King Henrik was beaten three times in a six-shot span.
renΓ© Bourque played with Tomas Plekanec and had some big hits and chances.
Travis Moen left the game in the second period with a leg injury.

PRE-GAME AUDIO: Randy Cunneyworth | John Tortorella

  1. Habster says:

Couple of days off, hopefully these injuries are nothing serious

  2. Bill says:

Bad timing on Moen injury. No trade if it’s serious.

What would it take to re-sign him I wonder. I like his play, personally.

  3. Habster says:

Just think , when we get in the play-offs, we may have to play these guys first round πŸ™‚

  4. Rad says:

Going to be a nice win tonight, but it’s going to cost us: Moen out, Pleks hurt, Cole not 100% either.

  5. Bill says:

Rangers having trouble handling the Canadiens size and speed, haha, I haven’t been able to say something like that since 1989.

  6. Rudy says:

    Pleks didn’t look good,
I am actually liking the NBC commentary, I haven’t had to mute it like I would for MSG nimrods

  7. Habster says:

How do you know Boone, waz wrong with Cole ?

  8. HabFanSince72 says:

Plex got hit in the face.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  9. BLACK ICE says:

  10. slapshot777 says:

Funny how Pleks high sticks an opponent and gets a two minute penalty. Yet he takes a stick to the face and nothing. The refs saw it, because he even came over to check on him. Habs getting short changed again by the officiating.

  11. Storm Man says:

    Plexs traded???

  12. novahab says:

Is Pleks hurt or has he been traded.

  13. piter says:

Moen got a knee in his right thigh.

  14. Habster says:

Gomez is having a great game.

  15. HabsFanMTL says:

i could see Ryan White with Gomez and Blunden and just send Darche in the press box

  16. Bill says:

Budaj flashes the leather and the crowd loves it.

  21. Rad says:

That Rupp is a monster … wish we could have signed him last Summer. He beat the crap outta Lucic in a fight last year.

  22. HardHabits says:

So it is pretty clear that JM and Cammy were stifling Gomez’ play.

  23. Habster says:

    Lets hope Moen is ok

  24. HabCez says:

i like Bourques speed.. now he just need confidence..
and we can have a semi-Cole

  25. habsfan0 says:

    Bourke sure can skate

  26. VancouverHab says:

Sorry, but am I reading this correctly? People seem to be saying that although Gomez was not at his best yesterday in his first game back after a thirty game layoff, he is playing better today now he is in his second game back.

That can’t be right! Clearly people were right to abuse Gomez mightily yesterday for failing to be immediately at his best….

    • HardHabits says:

Not being at his best we can forgive. Being at his worst gets abuse. πŸ˜‰

    • twilighthours says:

Few people, if any, want Gomez to suck. It would be awesome if he were a good player again. I’d happily take the one who played here in 2009-10.

What irks people is when folks like you proclaim that he is somehow better than others and is deserving of his ice time. You think you have found some argument that Gomez is a more effective player than desharnais. There is no such (sensible) argument.

      • VancouverHab says:

Well, we disagree. I believe (and I am not alone in this) that Gomez is substantially a better player than DD. Certainly there is absolutely no comparison in their relative stature in the league or careers.

I defend Gomez for no other reason than that he is irrationally and unfairly belittled here.

And I critique DD for no other reason that that he is irrationally and unreasonably over-praised here.

    • Habster says:

please stop the bashing, support our team and watch them turn the corner or mone on … We win together, we lose together

  30. twilighthours says:

This Montreal canadiens hockey team is unfamiliar to me.

  37. HabFanSince72 says:

    Gomez totally owned McDonough there.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

    • Bill says:

Well, McDonagh is probably a little tired from having played half the game as the #1 D-man on the NHL’s best team.

      Full Breezer 4 Life

      • Stev.R says:

What and Gomez isn’t tired from carrying that wallet around?

      • HabFanSince72 says:

McDonough is very good but I am am fairly sure he isn’t their #1.

And I’m 100% sure the Rangers aren’t the NHL’s best team. Not even top 5 in my book.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

        • Bill says:

Well, they may not be the best, but statistically, they’re number one. And I’d say if McDonagh isn’t their #1, he’s at least #1A. I think it’s a fair statement certainly.

  43. HabFab says:

    Go Habs Go!

    I hate losing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. David Desharnais: 10 points in last 8 games.

Plekanec no longer the leading scorer of the team:
    Cole leads with 33.
    Max-Pac has 32.
Desharnais tied with Pleky for 31.

    • LA Loyalist says:

What’s pleks +/-? When you’re playing a ton of D Bob Gainey style it is can hurt your offense.

We are still missing a big #1 center, and it’s not fair to hang Pleks if he’s getting worn down doing two jobs. And if other guys are getting points, how is that a bad thing?

Desharnais has done everything asked of him, we just need to put some nasty guys with him to create space and let him go.

  45. Habster says:

Boone, this team is turning the corner .. sit back, watch and enjoy πŸ™‚

Oooohh Gomez — could it possibly be, under a new coach — a resurgence??????

  50. PeterD says:

Very impressed with Gomez…very deft stickwork and showed some skilled playmaking on the Blunden goal.

  51. temekuhabs says:

Blunden is playing like he wants to stay,

  52. riddler says:

Wouldn’t cry if they traded AK. We’ve been very patient with him. Still waiting.

    • smiler2729 says:

Send him and Pleksy to Duckland for Bobby Ryan

      Jack Edwards sucks chowdah chunks

      • Bill says:

Plekanec would fit in great there.

But they prob want Subban in a package.

        Full Breezer 4 Life

        • LA Loyalist says:

Yes Pleks would be great for Ducks. Plek would take Koivu’s role if not next year the year after when he and Selanne retire.

For the record, though, they don’t need PK, they have Fowler and Vishnovsky (both of whom are terrific but very young).

Who they need is a Craig Ludwig / Rick Green type to manage their own zone.

Unfortunately, so do we. That said, Bobby Ryan is a potential game breaker and I’d take him in a second.

      • SlovakHab says:

        Or Getzlaf

  53. Habster says:

ok, a solid third period and bring the Capitals !!

  54. riddler says:

Yeah. But is that like one goal in three tries. ?
To me …..AK should be out there on every shoot-out.

  55. smiler2729 says:

Travis Moen pulled out of the game with a “leg injury” wink wink nudge nudge, and sent to Hurley’s Pub to await his pending trade.

Rejean Goats, it’s the way he rolls…

  56. slapshot777 says:

I know it may be coincidence but it sure looks like Cammy may have been having an effect on the team and certain players. Since the trade the players seem to have woken up and for now at least are skating and playing a more aggressive game.

Like I said maybe it’s just a coincidence, can one player have that much control over a team?

    • smiler2729 says:

  61. twilighthours says:

Interesting to see that kaberle has been benched after having a good start and creating that first mtl goal. Are they showcasing weber? It just feels like either campoli or weber will be gone in a trade soon.

    I hope it’s campoli.

The way to the cup is thru Boston ,the Ranger got a head start on us with that Gomez deal but it obvious that getting bigger is the only way

  64. temekuhabs says:

Ellers fault on the 1st goal, I believe is for the limited ice time

    • CHicoHab says:

Eller hangs on to the puck too long. On a 3 on 2 last night became off side. And a 2 on 1 with Moen he elected to shoot rather than pass. He does this alot in other games as well. Must learn to be more of a team player. Maturity will fix that.

“take your time and hurry up”

  65. novahab says:

I give the Rangers credit they play a tough game but certainly are not idoits likes the Bruins and Flyers. So what;s with the late whistle GD it was covered for 2 seconds and he didn’t blow it.

  66. riddler says:

Can someone explain why Eberle Waz allowed to take a shot in the shoot-out last night. Wtf??????

    • smiler2729 says:

Who the hell is Eberle Waz?

      Jack Edwards sucks chowdah chunks

      • LA Loyalist says:

Eberle Waz is the only guy that survived the Lokamotiv plane crash. He hid in Emelin’s luggage, and is only now getting ice time.

        How does he look?

    • Strummer says:

If you mean kaberle he has the 2nd best career shooting percentage in shootouts at 38.5% of all players that were on the bench last night.
