PRE-GAME AUDIO: Randy Cunneyworth | John Tortorella

RC is a very good coach. He played hard and expects his players to play hard. The entire team is playing hard, skating well, finishing checks, gong into corners and in front of the net.
Cole is the best player on the team.
Emelin hits and is agressive – good solid rookie, does not back down – a pleasure to watch.
PK PK PK -get your head on right! It is NOT ALL ABOUT YOU!! Martin played you when he should have benched you. RC will NOT placate you (aka second period last night). You have the potential to be a Bobby Orr but not with your lame – brain attitude.
How about AK on the point on the power play?
RC is turning this team around. In the next ten games, they will be playing his type of hockey consistently.
Playoffs???? Maybe!
Mikee
Mr Molson…I beg you… call larry Robinson and offer him big bucks to work with our defense….what about scott stevens…or..chris chelios.

its happend before and will continue to happen. younger players pushing older players out of their spots on the team. might/could be happening with players like eller/blunden/desharnais and pleks/gomez/AK.
ill be in the slot
Gomez played well – as a 7 Million Dollar 4th liner against the other team’s 4th. Can he keep it up next game? Blunden is playing his best hockey. Keep Emelin in the line-up, no more Campoli ever, ever again. Bourque looks like he sounds – kind of dumb and kind of good (and 3 million cheaper than whatshisface). Liked Pacioretty’s game lately, especially the fluke pass to DD. Hope Moen is okay (at least healthy come the trade deadline – no wait, I mean the playoff run!). Despite PK being a jackass, he’s 21 year old sophomore d-man that plays incredible minutes and anyone thinking of trading him should have his mouth taped shut. Eller makes mistakes, do not limit his ice time irrespective. Budaj was sharp. I understand (no doubt incorrectly) that Carey wants 7 million dollars for 10 years. Who do you think you are? Pekka Rinne? I knew Pekka Rinne. I went to school with Pekka Rinne. Pekka Rinne was a friend of mine and you, Carey, are no Pekka Rinne! Well, you probably are, so you’ll get your contract despite having won squat when it matters. Gauthier, you are a genius! At least for a single cold Sunday night in January. God bless.
And Pekka Rinne has won squat minus what?
The point being that they would be both overpaid. But Carey is still probably our best and most important player.
price doesnt deserve 7 million dollars a year he hasnt won squat bail your team out once in a while? yeah a little support helps! to. but dont duck when a shoot comes at your head and enough with all the rebounds. one of the better goalies in the league when hes on his game ,but got to win some to
i like price but until he gets us beyond the first round of the playoffs, no more than 5 mil
Boom baby!
Yeah, ducking when a puck comes in at his head, that makes me angry. As if you’re ducking!

Gomez is a good hockey player. Can’t believe that it’s been almost a year since his last goal. He’ll get one against Washington. Bourque is good. Couple more changes needed and we’ll be able to compete.
Get rid of Plek, PK, Weber and Diaz and replace with guys who play tough. Darche can join the coaching staff.
pipes
Don’t ruin a nice win by saying Gomez is a good hockey player.
He got scared by the Cammi trade is all, he’ll be back to floating on the periphery in a game or two.
Get rid of PK? Have you watched the last 3 games?
Gomez is good, and they should get rid of PK Subban?
Ok, now do your impression of a smart person for me so i can see how it compares.

After the All-Star break they can throw Cole, Pacioretty, Bourque, Eller, Kostitsyn, Moen, White, Blunden, and Darche out there. That’s some really good size and a fair bit of speed and skill on the wings.

3 points out of 4 this weekend is more than anyone expected if i read correctly and in between the lines here.
Good job Budaj ! Well deserved win. Liked what i saw from Bourque.Goes into traffic, quick passes, nice stick handling .Brings another dimension to the team.
Will not mention name of number 11 to keep away spell but played a solid game and actually was involved !
And of course great night for Cole ,DD and Max Pac. I like when i see players using their instinct.
It`s either they have the Rangers number or this is a kind of team that the Habs can compete with .Fast, talented no roughness.
One day at a time and for this one it was a team effort. Almost everyone had their role…Almost. Lets enjoy ok guys ?

Apparently Wilde asked Torts.
rumors of subban spitting at del zotto. i havent been on tsn.ca yet but it wouldnt surprise me if they mention it.
ill be in the slot
TSN mentioned it of course.. It’s funny, but I think this is just a case of a 2D angle.. neither player was aware.
Also, who isn’t spitting when they’re playing a sport on ice and drinking etc… it just happens, those benches can get nasty.
Am I too excited or is there anyone else thinking that if PG makes one more right ‘pick-up’ (we have lots of options to trade and I am not talking superstar pick-up)… we could be on to something. Or is it too late.
My preference trade some of our d-mobility for Neil type player.
The big news. Habs jump out to a 4-1 lead and hold it.
As Robert L noted. Since RC has taken over there haven’t been any too many men on the ice penalties.
The Habs played very well last the 3 games against 3 of the best teams in the league.
Are the Habs Tanking™? Probably not! Are they making the Pay-offs™? Probably not!!
But this team looks better today than it did on the 1st game of the season.
As they are saying on the antichambre now the Habs need to bulk up the back end.
This season doesn’t seem like the one so I still tout the concept of selling at the trade deadline if the Habs are where they are now in the standings. I think the Habs would be better served by trying to gather picks and or prospects and to shed some salary in the guise of shortness and softness to be able to strengthen considerably moving forward.
Decisions have to made on redundancy on the team with an eye towards bulking and sizing up without compromising skill and speed.
If the Habs follow this strategy, IMO, they could be a very good team in short notice.
I still contend that this season is not about making the play-offs and trying to win the Cup. The Habs are however in a position to turn this lemon of a season into lemonade for the next one.
Unless of course they go on a 10 game winning streak. And by that I mean soon.
“As they are saying on the antichambre now the Habs need to bulk up the back end”.. Agreed. Trade some mobility for some bulk back there.
The Habs can’t keep both Diaz and Weber one has to go for more size fur sure.
“Merci beaucoup.” Randy Cunnyworth
Keep the shot.
We should trade less speed for less bulk. (I’m talking about Gill)
Awesome new avatar. Really sums things up nicely.

Does a game like that make you more frustrated or less? I’m not sure where I stand myself. Great game to watch. I like Eller between AK and Bourque. I guess Darche goes for popcorn when White comes back, Where is White anyway? I thought he was back this past week?
Last I heard he was hanging out with Mr. Snuffleupagus.
Every team is exactly as good or as bad as their record. That’s why people follow sports: it relieves them of the difficult ambiguities of real life.
@TonyMaranaro – how do you spell backtrack? Rare that getting rid of one player has such a positive impact on the rest of the team.
Wednesday will be a big test. The Caps have not Forgiven or Rorgotten, Bourque`s sat 5 games , his suspension is over but Backstrom is still out.
It could get ugly. It could also be an opportunity for a team to come together, stand together, fight together, and send a message to the league . We are shooting for the playoffs!
It can just as easily be turning point in the other direction.
Cant wait to hear Marinaro explaining why he thinks Calgary “won” the trade.
We finally have a line up that can win:
Bourque & Gionta with Plek
Patch & Cole with DD
AK46 & Moen with Eller
Blunden & Darche with Gomez.
Nokillainen – replace Blunden, Darche or Gomez from time to time
If RC wanted to be creative . he should make his wingers change independantly from the centers. he can roll 4 centers with three sets of wingers. keep Darche and Blunden for spot shifts.
Been a while since the team looked good like this from start to finish.
Been a while since the team looked like………………………….

You’ve got a $7 million dollar guy on your 4th line.
We can only afford one smurf – and I’ll take DD over Gionta. Sorry.
Get two Bourque/Max Pac-type lads and get rid of Gionta and Gomez (somehow) get Markov back, and either Weber or Diaz for a Craig Ludwig type, and we can really turn the corner on this thing.
“nothing serious” said Cunneyworth when asked about the injuries this game just as RDS cut away from the presser.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Solid game from Gomez; we’ll need him to play smart the way he did tonight. Pleks invisible, again.
Bourque is no Cole, does not have his speed nor skills. Jury is still out in a big way. Trading Cammy should have gotten us more in return than a 3rd line forechecker.
FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER
Since when do 3rd liner forecheckers rank 40th and 42nd in goals?
Alfie is not used to being happy. Must have some sentimental attachments to those blueshirts
Enjoy the moment, we have had few enough of them this season.
3rd line fore checker..LOL
How many 3rd line fore checkers score nearly 60 goals in 2 years?
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
You realize Bourque has more goals then Cammalleri right? Including the one he scored last night.
Remember that he is also coming of a 5 game layoff, and adjusting to playing on a new team, with new teammates.
funny how cammy was in front of the net when he scored last night. wouldnt go there when he was playing for the habs.
ill be in the slot
Sorry gentlemen, I call it as i See it. We should have gotten more for Cammy, especially this close to trade deadline. Bourque looked average, but Cole he is not.
It’s addition by subtraction. I liked Cammy but I am not sorry to see him go. Bourque skated fast tonight, not unlike Cole, which gives the Habs another power forward.
The Habs also traded a 5th for a 2nd.
Although Ramo is a good prospect he is not going to come to North America as long as he is starting in the KHL unless he starts here.
Holland is 9th in scoring in the WHL, ahead of Gallagher. He is 6’0″ but needs to bulk up as he weighs 175 lbs.
At the very least the Habs added a player who brings size and grit, is willing to play a two-way game and will mix it up physically with his fists, elbows or checks as opposed to with chippy stick work at the same time as bringing the same points production.
Plus the Habs shed more than 2.5M in salary.
Is Ramo really that good of a prospect? I thought he couldn’t hold down the starting job in Tampa so he bolted for the KHL.
We also got a 2nd rd pick and the 9th overall scorer in the Dub and enough $ left over to get another 20 goal scorer which adds up to a good deal! Plus RB won’t crap himself in the corners. His speed looked pretty good on his first shift . I really don’t know which line is 1st, 2nd or 3rd anyway
See if Gomez puts the same effort forward on Wednesday. Really, we have been playing better the last 3 games. What a difference if we could have pulled out a win agains the sens as and bruins. Those games the team played well…just bad luck and bad bounces. Hopefully we can string together some wins now.

Yes Boone they NEEDED that…. mor eimportantly they DESERVED it. Yes Boone Blunden will stick around even when White comes back. PG has seen the light!
Thank you guys.. actually 3 good games in a row.. despite only 3 points.
I like Bourque….as long as he doesn’t take dumb penalties or elbow anyone in the head. I hate that about today’s hockey.
Gomez was an asset tonight…rare, I know, but hope springs eternal.
And, perhaps Price could take a lesson from Budaj about standing-up more and being active “in the net”…not behind it.
Time for another goal-tender controversy..ha,ha.
Maybe Cammi getting traded and leaving town with few fan tears actually got Gomez’ attention and made him realize he needs to try and look like he’s earning his crust.
Apparently his reaction to Cammy being traded while he sat in the Boston press box was “Crap, now they will be hating me again!”
Hopefully he enjoyed the brief reprieve enough to want a change.
Bourque and Kostitsyn with Plekanec is much better than Gionta and Cammy with Plekanec that’s for sure.
They would have beaten the Sens, if it wasn’t for the refs last night, The idoit waited till 2.37 tonight when he knew it was over to call something on the Rangers.
That is correect sir they robbed us of a win

ive been saying all along, blunden could have some value if given the chance. he could be good for around 15 goals and would sign for what hes making now or a bit more..2-3 year deal wouldnt hurt.
ill be in the slot
Blunden impressed me during the preseason. Whenever he was on the ice the play always seemed to be in the other teams end, and he throw his weight around. I didn’t know who he was then, (at first I thought it was Kostitsyn,) so I watched him more closely. For someone his size he doesn’t skate all that badly.
Surprised Martin and company sent him down, what’s his name on TSN said Cunneyworth thinks he can score more than what he has shown. I thought to myself, interesting it would be nice to see someone break out as a Hab for once. Perhaps Cunneyworth will be the one to find a hidden gem.
Plekanec and AK46 traded to Minnesota for Koivu

You are a sick man hardhabits… but nothing 3 wins against Washington,Pittsburgh and Toronto wont cure.
Slightly less than half-full coctail glass here John, but boy oh boy the cream is rising to the top.
Cream in a cocktail glass? You’re milking this for all it’s worth.
As much as I enjoy the win, I still feel the Habs would benefit from having some high drafts picks (top 5) for a change. I think RC might still get them to lottery territory…
Lets hear it for the Bell Street Brawlers , ok let sign Colton Orr before we play the Leafs.
interesting stat…the Habs have only 8 less goals than the #1 Rangers. As mentioned…Habs not nearly as bad as their record indicates.
OK PG your sitting on 9 mil you can’t wait to the trade deadline and where the hell is Markov.
Canadiens out hit the Rangers, there’s a fight in the 1st period to set the tempo…was that the Canadiens?
Blunden playing significant minutes. The subtraction of Cammy and the addition of Bourque.
The call for size and grit is being answered.
Avtsin the 1st star tonight against the Marlies. That boy is going to play for the Habs sooner than later. We’re on the way back, Tankers!
