Three third-period goals – two within 18 seconds _ broke up a scoreless game and propelled your Montreal Canadiens to their 10th win of the season.
Brandon Prust got it going on a pretty feed from rookie Alex Galchenyuk.
Then Cam Ward looked horrible on a rising shot by Tomas Plekanec, which bounced in over the Carolina’s goaltender for Pleks’s eighth of the season, and a long J.C. Tremblay knuckler that was Max Pacioretty’s first of the season.
Peter Budaj made 19 saves for the shutout.
Canadiens had 26 shots on Ward.

Win again !
Boone, you said “Budaj was more likely to give up the weird one”, well your reverse jinx worked again tonight!! Thanks, and keep it up!! Haha
Can’t stay awake anymore…even with the Kate Upton pictures link. Thx for your comments everybody and good night.
If the Habs have the same winning % at the trade deadline would the team trade prospects for established players?…This will be a tough decision…
I don’t think they will ever trade prospects or draft picks for rentals. A player under contract? Maybe.

Good job by Budaj over the last two games. If this team can beat the Rangers tomorrow night after having to play tonight, plus travel, then I don’t see anything holding them back. Things are looking up!
Why not recap tonight’s awesomeness by looking at photos of Ms. Kate Upton?

Well done! Plekanecs ‘goal’ is my favorite. Top shelf indeed!

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
That’s certainly where he aimed, but I think it trickled in off Ward’s shoulder.
EDIT: I just looked at the link.
Ignore my comment.
Last call before bed.
One glaring difference I find between last year and this year is their patience on the play.
Last year, they always seemed to be rushing the play.
This year, everyone seems to take a second to do the smart play.
Five on four, and the plays from the point are methodical and the passes are bang on.
Even though they haven’t produced on the PP in a few games, they’re handling of the puck is still impressive. They no longer dump and chase. There’s always someone to enter the zone and make the play.
There was so much concern about our D at the beginning of the year. And I agreed within reason. They’re certainly not the biggest.
But boy are they effective. Even a 38-year old Bouillon adds energy to the D.
Someone pointed out earlier that Budaj didn’t face too many shots and it’ll be different in MSG, and maybe so.
But give credit to the D. They’ve played smart and they’ve played tough against some pretty big forwards.
I really like what I’m seeing.
As long as they stay healthy, this should continue to be a fun ride.
Like a QB with a good set of receivers, this team seems to know that a little patience will be rewarded with good options. This team passes REALLY well, they make the most of the puck when it comes to them. That binds them together.
Compare that to the Gomez-era “throw the puck near me” approach. For me, that was the biggest problem with Gomez, his crappy passes that had everyone chasing. Man I still hate that dude. I can’t wait until San Jose starts benching him and then lets him go.
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
the PP has worked well when the puck has been moved quickly. when they slow it down it struggles. tonight it was slow and struggled.
I was being silly with the ‘fighter’ thing because I must admit it will be an issue, especially if the PP remains as ineffective as it has been recently. We can afford to have no enforcer and a lethal PP, we cannot afford a situation with no enforcer and a moribund PP. Our little guys and/or our goalie will get manhandled for intimidation purposes, knowing we won’t score so teams have all incentives in the world to try to bully our side into submission.
The PP needs some injection of creativity quick, maybe some more movement and improvisation. Whatever we were doing at the beginning of the year is no longer working npw that most teams PK has rounded into form.

Budaj had maybe 3 tough saves tops. I don’t get all the love. Start him over Price? can’t be serious.
It’s great for the back up to perform like he has in the last two games. He deserves the love.
What he said.
Budaj did very well, and all commendations are very well deserved, but Price is the no.1 guy, and it’s not like he’s been bad either.

Seems like Galchenyuk’s assists are mostly primary ones and usually the result of him making a great pass to the shooter, very few coincidental or cheap ones so far. Good stuff.
I like how he he takes it to the net.
His timing is great too. The first goal in a tight game tonight. The overtime winner in Florida. Etc…
huh so playing a goalie more then every 2 months might allow him to round into form…who knew!
I thought that was one of the biggest mistakes by JM. Fearing to lose so much that he would not rely on Budaj enough, who imo is a very competent backup. The thing is every time he played he had to shake off 2+ months of rust.
Also nice to see Terrien roll the lines instead of gasing the two top ones out (another JM trait)
Comeback teams of the year so far Habs and Leafs .. For now Leafs have the edge as have beaten the Habs 2 times..have played 4 more road games and have had much more significant injuries…In the long run Leafs will go back to reality…but have to give them credit so far
AK is playing in the KHL
give Orr credit tonight for taking it to Parros after what happened last time. showed major balls
Anyone know where Andrei Kostitsyn is. I thought he had signed with Florida the same day Kovalev did but when I looked at their roster, he wasn’t on it.
KHL I think
Yeah, for Traktor Chelyabinsk
HA!! Been a while since I’ve thought of the JC Tremblay knuckler, he was good at it, Ward was still woozy from that awkward Pleks shot/goal. Gotta hand it to Booteye, he did his job when the Habs went sleepwalking there in the 2nd. Really enjoying this team.
Loving the Habs since 1965
yes i dont know why more guys dont use the old flip shot. hard for the dman too with the crazy bounce. also hard to pick up the puck when it is 30 feet in the air
Hello MT, play Budaj until winning streak ends.
Agreed.
The pressure on Price tomorrow will be very high.
don’t agree. Need to have the franchise back asap
Depends on Price’s health. I’m not a doctor but if he had to have IV’s then maybe a little more rest is needed?
IV’s were there only to keep him hydrated. Having the flu/gastro, you lose alot of fluids.

Tell me about it… last time it happened to me I spent a day on the can with a bucket not knowing where it was coming out.
Best case is having an IV connected, but for me, Gatorade is your best friend when you’re sick like that.

If Price is ready he’ll play.
Speaking of Colo’s 1st round pick last year – whatever happened to Filip Forsberg?
Isn’t that Washington’s? I think you mean Gabriel Landenskog? I think he’s injured..
got nailed by stuart of st jose last month. ryan o’byrne stepped up and fought stuart. bit of a dirty hit. no call
washington drafted forsberg?
Washington drafted him, he’s currently playing in Sweden.
Too much agreement and getting along on here tonight. Let me try something on you…
I thought we needed a big 280lb enforcer to win? The big Stalls were going to swallow Desharnais, Diaz and Gionta without anyone noticing and push the puck into our net with their eyelashes

For that matter, a lot of people were saying the Flyers were going to beat the Habs up and “shock” them. Lol.

No I’m not

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
280lb is not enough…I want a 300 pounder…
Does this give MT enough confidence to give Budaj more games than originally planned?
I think the reason Budaj doesn’t play in a lot of games is because he doesn’t need to, Price is confident playing a lot of games and nothing against budaj, but i’d rather have Price in net.
I understand and agree, but may be easier to give Price an extra night or two off.
Budaj also faced a really low quantity of shots these past two games, the D helped him out alot.
I’m not negating that he has been doing well though, and he looks more confident. Maybe they’ll alternate more to keep Price fresh if/when playoff time rolls around.

Don’t think so. I suspect they already had in mind before the season started which games they would each play. These wins by Budaj are a huge bonus.
The time has come that other teams use our team as a measuring stick. !!
Very good point L, except that means the Leafs have great length and girth? No?
Their fall with have a louder thud is all.
No Rupp and Prust on our side now. I don’t think the Habs will be bullied in NY tomorrow…
10 wins in 15 games … I don’t think they’re getting bullied much.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Just sayin’ that the games in NY are traditionally tough. I think tomorrow will be different with the change in rosters.
Habs usually play the rangers well. If they score a PP goal tomorrow night I say we beat them. It will sure be nice to have Prust on our side and also not have to face Anisimov. He seemed to own the boards when he played Mtl. But i still agree w those that say we need more muscle. Can’t wait for NY.
palushaj with a goal and 2 assists tonight. 4 points in 4 games, good for him!
* too bad he didn’t clear waivers, i wish we coulda kept him!
I think he could of looked good playing with Galchenyuk, he wasn’t really lighting it up in Hamilton but they definitely were better with him.
Glad he’s getting his chance to play in the NHL.

Plekanec now tied for 8th overall in goals.
–Go Habs Go!–
Diaz tied for 15th in assists.
Budau tied for 3rd in shut outs
–Go Habs Go!–
Guess it’s obvious whose our #1 center now…
He was the number one last year too. Played all the hard minutes against the top players. Scored nearly as many points as Desharnais with nobody on his wings. No one who was paying attention ever thought he wasn’t the number one guy.

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Tell it to the French media…Pleks never gets the respect he deserves.
Plekanec’s value to this team somehow is not only evaluated by goals and assists.
Some people are never happy. Knocking Price and Diaz. The team seems to do good when they’re in the line-up. Get a life….
Don’t understand it, Price had the save of the game tonight.
Lol, that was a beauty

Marc Denis agrees!
Given his career, I would’ve been shocked if the puck actually hit Denis.
Habs remain undefeated against teams outside their division

Habs win another game they were supposed to. Who could ask for anything more going into a transition season for the team? Pressure is taken off for tomorrow’s game with 4 game win streak. Maybe start Budaj again? Even with Price in, tomorrow’s game will be tough so why not rest him up for the Islanders (a game they should win)?
Still miss Captain Kirk behind the Habs bench…
Game they were supposed to? Canes were one of the hottest teams in the league coming in here tonight. Had won three in a row. Solid win by the Habs.
Full Breezer 4 Life
You’re right. I underestimated the Canes but I think the Habs were still favoured as the Canes had injuries too (and at home). I agree it was a solid win. These are the types of games they are going to have to win in the playoffs (especially Boston). Tight games where everyone waits for a mistake. Anyway, another two points in the bank and still a playoff team. Who would have thought this at the beginning of the season?
Forget the summit for next year… time to start organizing a Parade meeting place.
I agree. Ian, do you mind taking this on please? I trust your planning skills.

Another important home win..That is now 10 home games and 5 on the road but in previous years the team played better on the road..so now that they been winning at home they should be okay on the road..The d is still a bit small and the 4th line is okay but some upgrades next year would be good…Still feel nervous when Diaz is on the ice in the d zone…
Really? I think Diaz has been pretty darn good in his own end this season. Hes always in position.
Emelin makes me nervous when he’s manning the blue line in the O zone

Agreed, he got burned a few times at the blue line this year…probably wants to copy Markov lol…I love watching him go into the corner with a guy though

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Agreed 001 (except re Diaz). May need to sacrifice Gorges if the right trade is there for someone much bigger and stronger. I really
wanted Kuba last summer as ufa. But really could use someone nasty too.
4th line needs to lose Armstrong i think. Too slow and too passive. He never hits anymore! We could really use Blunden’s speed, plus he rarely misses a chance to hit someone. Whitey was good tonight; Moen too.
