Dainius Zubrus scored twice, including the winner and an empty-netter.
Martin Brodeur wons on his 40th birthday … and gets an assist on Zubrus’s second goal.
The Devils had a 32-12 shot advantage through 40 minutes.
Their ferocious forecheck is killing the Flyers.

Goodbye, Blues.
Wow! The Kings have eliminated the top two seeds in the Western Conference.
And you have to like their chances against either Nashville or Phoenix.

Buttman to announce sale of Coyotes tomorrow!

I cant believe we let Zubrus get away from the club. what a stud
When we had him he was still in his 20s. I suppose someone expected him to become a 40 goal scorer. He didn’t, so bye bye.

UGH!!!!!!! Always had a feeling Gauthier was pulling moves and BG was GM in name……….. Is it even possible that PG had something to do with Carbo’s firing? Might as well clean house before bringing JM in…. Doesnt matter now… Trading for Gomez LMAO enough said.
But in all seriousness, I have a lot of respect for Gainey and what he’s been through.
Who cares if Burke wants him to stay till after the draft. Duds has an ‘out’ and so it’s up to him.
Button says Bergevin should wait till July 1 and that it’s perfectly reasonable to respect the process and let Toronto finish their draft process.
However, the Habs are without an assistant general manager and have a new general manager just learning his team. He’s learning the ropes and has a bunch of work to do in signing RFA’s and prepping to free agency and the draft. Ridiculous to think Bergie’s gonna handle everything until the crucial part of the managerial year is over sans all the personnel he’ll eventually hire.
Sure, I can understand that Burke doesn’t want Duds gone at a crucial time but Bergevin needs help soon, not in 2 months. Besides, that’s the nature of an ‘out’ clause that Burke himself signed off on. His own fault.
We don’t know the details of Dudley’s “out clause”. If Burke had any sense when he gave Dudley the job, the out clause would still require him to wait past the draft.
Also the Habs still have Larry Carriere in the Assistant GM’s chair. He’ll probably stay in the organization even after Dudley is hired.
And Thirdly Trevor Timmins will run the draft. You know, the guy who Rick Dudley promoted to head scout when Dudley was GM in Ottawa.
So yes, Dudley is the guy that we want, but I think we can survive a couple weeks without him. Bergevin can run the ship with the staff he has, and will add his right hand man soon enough.

Thanks for the commentary, but maybe cut the “you-know” condescension.
Bergevin himself says the Habs are understaffed and that he needs lots of surrounding-help. There are RFAs and UFA’s to evaluate and sign, a draft to prep for, coaches to evaluate and hire, and staff and scouts to evaluate and hire. And things need to be in place, oiled, and ready to go for the draft and for free agency.
Bergevin needs help soon, not in 2 months. He knows it and has said as much. His brains should trump his respect for the ‘process’ if Burke really has no power. He knows it’s a crucial time and that Dudley would be of great help, especially for free agency prep.
If we want Dudley and if he has an out clause then we can basically have him whenever we want, Burke has no say at all, he can pound salt for all I care
Philly made it to the 2nd round, because Fleury was a sieve.

Missed all the hockey games today, managed to squeeze a round of golf in after pretend baseball practise. Evidently I missed many opportunities in which the shooter had the puck in his pinwheel. Suddenly I dont fee bad about missing the hockey games, thanks Gary Galley.

Too many beer before I teed off, 87 at Indian Wells, very slow round. Now I know why I don’t normally play on weekend afternoons. But still a lot of fun.
How ya doing Chuck? Maybe we should do draft day get together?
Sounds good to me!
Last time I played Indian Wells I barely broke 90. Same problem: too many cold ones on the practice green.

Wonder if Flyers’ goalie Ilya Bryzgalov will feel much pressure playing in front of a hostile home crowd in Game 5 as Philly faces elimination?
Nah, not much.

Don’t forget, the Devils were the hottest team in the NHL during the 2nd half last year, barely missing the playoffs after a horrendous 1st half.

Wouldn’t Lou Lamoriello have looked good as Habs GM these last few years?
And, he IS bilingual.

Yes but he isin’t tri-lingual,nuff said.

Philly sure miss Pronger. They were outshot 43 – 22. When Giroux has to be the “goon”, it’s not pretty. If NJ can put them away, it’ll be a delicious amount of Schadenfreude to have both Boston and Philly out of the hunt this year — almost makes up for the Habs not being in the playoffs.
Couldn’t agree more. The only thing better than seeing the Bruins bounced is seeing the Flyers flushed.
Now I would like to add the Phoenix Coyotes to the list of “must be gone” teams not because I harbour any animus against that team, but just because the bankrupt Bettman’s Desert Follies winning anything is such an appalling precedent.
“Et le but!”
Let them beat Nashville first so we can get a higher pick with Nashville’s second rounder. Then the Kings can take care of them.

I looked everywhere online -unsuccessfuly- for a photo of Rick Dudley as I remember him as Buffalo coach:
Tight perm, porn-stache, beige suit.
Does anyone else have this image in their mind? It’s all I can think of when I hear Dudley’s name.

I was looking at players in the Russian League and i hope Montreal take a good look at Denis Grebeshkov because we could use defenseman that is more solid than Diaz or Campoli ( who will probably be gone by the start of the season but nevertheless we need to replace him.)

- He has only had one significant knee surgery but while looking i also found out that he blocked a shot in his groin and had to have surgery on his testicle!
- Nevertheless i still think he would be a good fit in montreal and if he isn’t we he can go back to Russia or be sent to Hamilton.
Could a holding the stick penalty have been more obvious?

Where has Briere disappeared to?
Another MIA!
Sorry I drank all the Briere
Played 18 with my brother and a cousin this morning. We were peeing our Briere everywhere.
Giroux has a good teacher in Briere when it comes to giving cheap shots & getting away with them…….
Shanny won’t have the knuts to suspend Giroux.
yeah, i think he won’t give the dude time off the ice. its the playoffs and he’s one of the ‘stars’ of the show.
if you’re Shanny, you don’t want to suspend any of the hotshots in hockey, wouldn’t you?
I Blair Betts you Brendan Shanahan will have the Ron Tugnutts to Suspend Claude Giroux for Game 8 of this series.
Shanahan is a lackey.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
But Parise is 5’11 he’s just another smurf.
Just kidding.
It drives me batty that guys who are 5’11 are put in the same category of small as guys who are 5’6 like Desharnais and Gionta.
But Guys who are 6’0 are often said to have “good size”

No I’m more Cammalleri height, I admit I’m short.
That isn’t the point, the point is that I’ll take a 5’11 guy with skill and desire every day of the week over Benoit Pouliot or Rene Bourque. So much more to this sport than just having height.

It is a valid point. There seems to be this bizarre notion that at 6 feet someone somehow crosses some dividing line between Smurf and Big. Totally ridiculous. I don’t deny that size can be an asset and all thins being equal I would prefer the bigger player, but is it that big a deal if it is just another inch? (that’s what the girlfriend said last night)
“Et le but!”
Boone. Ovie made a play with his skate on the puck which put his body in position for a “hockey play.” Giroux was pissed and went right for the head with no puck in sight. This should be 1-3 game suspension.
*Listen to my instrumental tribute entitled “Habs at War” at http://web.me.com/ptolias/Music/OtherOriginalMusic.html
Why do i get the feeling that Giroux might get out with this and Shanny would rather just ask him to ‘pay’ $2500 for the hit?
If I were Giroux, I’d give him $5,000 so I’d have the next one in the bank already.
Friedman and Heals talking up Quennville and Crawford…..Interesting.
I like the idea of Quenneville.
About time the Habs coach had a moustache.
Is Heals going for the Charlie Sheen look or what… I still hope Vigneault is the man- don’t think Van. will let him go though.
didn’t see the hit so won’t comment on whether he’ll be suspended or not, but just FYI there is no special case for “blind side” hits anymore. they took that provision out so they could vary ruling depending on the play.
If Claude Giroux gets suspended it will be for game 8 of this series.
Weber got suspended for games 6 & 7 in the series against Detroit……
I like Giroux’s passion, but that’s a suspendable hit to the head even if he didn’t leave his feet. Two games is what I’d give him.
Joel Quenneville, just spotted at Ohare airport buying a Rosetta Stone French package
honestly, i don’t see the blackhawks system to be an effective way to implement here in montreal. i’m still rooting for either roy, hartley, or crawford to be the next head coach.
IMO—-Marc Crawford, Gerard Gallant, Benoit Groulx, or Joel Quenneville, still not really sure about Roy as coach,
Actually, Cunneyworth gave Quenneville his copy.
no wonder.
Good as New i would think
The Habs need Parise.
NEED.
I’d bet that Parise would get Gomez gong again.
