Liveblog: Canadiens beat Flyers 4-1 but get banged up

GallagherMax

For the first time this season, Bell Centre fans go home happy on a Saturday night.
Goals by Brendan Gallagher, David Desharnais and, in the third period, Tom Plekanec and Rene Bourque sealed the deal.
But the win could be costly: Brandan Gallagher, chosen as first star of the game, didn’t come out to toss pucks.
Gallagher was injured during the game, as were Max Pacioretty, Colby Armstrong and Alexei Emelin.

Canadiens had a 29-19 shot advantage but were outhit 32-20, which might account for the injuries.

L’antichambre is bringing up a good point with Cole. He’s only out there for 30 second shifts and when he gets back to the bench he’s out of breath… Is he Out of shape?
Hope he gets back to form cause last years Cole would be awesome

Glenn Heally = Mike Milbury lite.

The empty net goal should be given to my Patchy.

  4. Habifax says:

The Flyers do look bad. Slow and poor in their own zone. Habs forecheck never looked so good. Goalkeeping issues as well

  5. hab fan in leaf jungle says:

This was a great win but Philly just is not the measuring stick we need. Boston, the New York Rangers and the Devils are still the class of the East and the Habs MUST spank the Leafs at their next meeting. The Habs don’t play the West at all so we can’t measure them against The Sharks. Blues, Detroit. Great win for Budaj as there were a lot of nasty comments here about him. Good support from the team. Go Habs.

  6. Mattyleg says:

Hey, does anyone else see resemblences between Gallagher and a young Cammalleri?
Same low-down skating style, same quick release…

Hope he’s not too badly hurt, he’s a fantastic trigger-man.

  7. SmartDog says:

Great team win. The Habs passing is outstanding.

    Two more things:
    1. You don’t dominate the first period like that without a PK Subban and a Prust in the line-up to just win battles with sheer power at both ends of the rink.
    2. Both Gals pushed face-first into the boards with no call and no retribution from Prust. This is wrong.

In other news, the dirty Leafs won and Ottawa may not score again this season.
    Still, we’re first. :D

I just want to say I called it. Said Budaj would have a good performance in page 1 of the comments.

Excellent win for the Habs. So happy for Budaj, I’m sure this victory will give him a lot of confidence moving forward. Hope Gallagher & Max Pac are alright.

  11. Danno says:

    Any word on Gallagher?

It’s occasionally assuring to know some things never change. The Flyers are a classless and revolting organization — always has been, always will be.

  14. donmarco says:

Great win, but injuries are worrisome.

  15. Ian_Habs4life says:

Who would have thought that we would be in 2nd place in the conference after 14 games in a 48 game season. Hopefully we continue playing like this!

  16. chinahab says:

Nice win, but Habs made it too hard on themselves. Philly should have been put away in the 2nd. Need to clean up those lazy penalties and have more of a killer instinct.

  17. Habitant in Surrey says:

…Our usually classy rinkside announcer sounding verry Buffaloesque :(

  18. deane paul says:

need an injury report. galagher hit his head on the rim of boards and shoulder twisted awkwardly as he crashed in. punched out by way bigger leaf, now run by schenn. not a hab did a thing in either case. probably did not wanna join white. mt leaves rookies unprotected with white benching.

  19. Mattyleg says:

So, I actually watched Flyers vs. Leafs earlier in the week, and I couldn’t understand why people were saying, “This is going to be a measuring stick game for the Habs…”

The only thing we were ever going to be able to measure after this game was how effectively we beat a crappy team.

Which is what we measured in Florida. Twice.

This season’s a strange one, and the only two teams that have played with any kind of consistency are the Booins and the Hawks.

Crazily enough, we’re on the second tier with the Leafs. :-/

  20. Habilis says:

First in the Northeast, now that sounds mighty fine. I just hope this win didn’t cost us Gally or Patches.

  21. Habitant in Surrey says:

    …Budaj deserved 2nd Star behind Gallagher :(

  22. Propwash says:

    Budaj deserved one as well.

  23. deane paul says:

maybe mt will earn what every junior coach knows, in back to back games where you are goin to split the goalies….play the back up in the first game. team is tired in second game so will need your no 1 goalie. in the back to back jets, sens games. price should have had the sens in ottawa on the second night. not the low scoring jets at the bell center. terrbile call by mt.
