Liveblog: Canadiens beat Flyers 4-1 but get banged up

GallagherMax

For the first time this season, Bell Centre fans go home happy on a Saturday night.
Goals by Brendan Gallagher, David Desharnais and, in the third period, Tom Plekanec and Rene Bourque sealed the deal.
But the win could be costly: Brandan Gallagher, chosen as first star of the game, didn’t come out to toss pucks.
Gallagher was injured during the game, as were Max Pacioretty, Colby Armstrong and Alexei Emelin.

Canadiens had a 29-19 shot advantage but were outhit 32-20, which might account for the injuries.

Habs win, Leafs win. Glass half full!

You can’t be both a Habs and a Leafs fan

Wonder if Boone gets a bonus for every 1000 post thread?

Tremblay has a column on RDS this a.m about Eller…apparently he is surprised that the kid can play!? Now he’s preaching patience with regards to young players ( um, duh!) and last year he was trading him or sending him to bulldogs.

And he gets paid for his analysis….

Good article on RDS about tonight’s win.

Gallagher looks like Cammy in that pic.

Down the article, and I am paraphrasing and translating here, Gionta says that the Habs style of play is to continually put pressure on the opponent, instead of playing back on their heels as they used to in the past.

He says that their goal is to continuously fore check and impose their rhythm from the start of the game to the end and that they are at their best when they exert pressure.

    Therrien’s message.

    • Clay says:

I’m a BIG fan of the aggressive fore-check. Passive checking is a losing strategy.

So what did I tell ya’ll about Boodye? I am officially starting a new controversy – Boodye is better than Price.

    Solid win (more or less).

Any news regarding Gallager? That looked like a nasty hit.

    • HardHabits says:

From RDS about Pacioretty and Gallagher:

« Il s’agit de blessures au haut du corps pour les deux, mais je n’en sais pas davantage, a répondu Therrien quand on lui a posé la question. On en saura davantage demain. » Le capitaine du Canadien, qui a lui aussi obtenu deux mentions d’aide, espère revoir ses coéquipiers rapidement sur la patinoire. « Ce sont des durs, je suis confiant qu’ils n’auront pas à s’absenter », a résumé Gionta, l’air peu inquiet.

      Loosely translated:

“They both have upper body injuries, that’s all we know,” Therrien responded when asked. “We’ll know more tomorrow.” The Canadiens’ captain, who also had two assists, hopes to see his teammates on the ice soon. “They’re tough, I am confident that they wont miss any games,” said Gionta, who didn’t sound too concerned.

What was up with Briere’s celebration after his “goal”? He’s acting like he roofed it but the only reason it went in was because it bounced off Markov. Loser…

  7. deane paul says:

yes good to see Beleskey doing well. Knew his dad Joe while growing up in Barrie. …….. and played beer league with Joe years ago. His boy plays same style…..only much better.

Simmons and Couturier were unnoticeable tonight. I thought they were “untouchables”? Holmgren’s moves are starting to look worser each day…

  11. 24moreCups says:

Brendan Gallagher and Nail Yakupov have the same amount of points both have 5 goals and 3 assists, in the same amount of games.

Not too shabby for a 5th round pick.

  12. frontenac1 says:

    Ducks win it.

  13. kempie says:

I have sort of a confession:

I’ve had a bit of a fever lately. Last night I had a very disturbing Pulp Fiction kind of dream that involved Alexei Emelin in a major role. I’m glad he’s okay.

  14. Ram Cat says:

The best part of tonight’s game was that they didn’t collapse in an ineffective defensive shell in the third.

Going to a shoot out in Music City.

  19. deane paul says:

our habs are going nowhere boys. galagher gets punched out by big leaf defenceman. nobody on habs does a thing about it. price gets run. same thing. galagher gets his head slammed into boards by schenn. habs do nothing! giroux vicious slash to the wrist of emelin. not a hab insight. giroux pulls a slew foot. habs do nothing. team will just run over the habs…… and we will have 5 6 guys outta the line up by mid way point. mt will blame injuries for the long losing streaks. bah. “the more things change the more they stay the same”

Just got an email from a member of HI/O who’s very close to the Habs.
According to him, Price doesn’t have the flu; tomorrow he will be part of a big trade…

I cannot divulge the HI/O member’s name…but he also told me NOT to drink the Coors, because they put saltpeter in the beer.
