It was the rugged winger’s third game-winner of the playoffs.
The Devils also got goals from Ilya Kovalchuk and fourth-liner Ryan Carter.
The home team got goals from Marc Staal and Chris Kreider, both on power plays.
Shot blocks were down: 16 by the Rangers (half of that total by Ryan McDonagh), seven by the Devils.
But there were 74 hits, 39 by the Rangers.
The series shifts to New Jersey for Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.
