Liveblog: Devils edge Kings 3-1, series goes back to Jersey

After almost 48 scoreless minutes, Patrik Elias and Drew Doughty scored goals 62 seconds apart.
The game seemed headed for the third OT of the series when Adam Henrique converted a saucer pass from David Clarkson and beating Jonathan Quick on his blocker side.
So we’ll have hockey on June 9: Game 5 in Newark on Saturday night.

Much-maligned Ilya Kovalchuk added an empty-netter.

Three times the Kings have been up 3-0 in these playoffs.

Three times they’ve failed to seal the deal.

Credit the Devils: They didn’t roll over.

And they had a 43-33 hit advantage.

If they win back in Jersey …

Michel Therrien has sacked the Randys, Cunneyworth and Ladouceur. But not goaltending coach Pierre Groulx … at least not yet.

And the Canadiens have hired Martin Lapointe to work in player development.

Statement from Therrien:

“Following my appointment as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, I made the decision of bringing together a new coaching staff. Out of respect for Randy Cunneyworth and Randy Ladouceur, I felt it was important that I notify them immediately in order for them to start looking for other opportunities without further delay. On behalf of the organization, I would like to thank both of them for their valuable contribution to the team and wish them the very best for the future.”
