Liveblog: Rangers beat Caps 2-1, advance to Eastern Conference final

Roman Hamrlik, of all people made it interesting.
The ancient defenceman made the third period interesting after Michael Del Zotto gave the Rangers what seemed to be an insurmountable 2-0 lead.
The Capitals managed FOUR shots in the third period.
That’s not going to do it in Game 7.
So the better team moves on to face New Jersey.
Henrik Lundqvist vs. Martin Brodeur.

In a game that will help define his career, Alexander Ovechkin … well, he pretty much sucked: two shots on goal, two that were blocked, two that missed the net.

Brad Richards, by contrast, rose to the occasion. He scored 92 seconds into the game to give the Rangers a lead they never relinquished. Richards had four SoG and went 14-10 on faceoffs, winning all the crucial ones.

Ryan McDonagh played a game-high 29-37 and blocked four shots. Marc Staal blocked five. Del Zotto had eight hits. Dan Girardi smothered Ovechkin.

Early prediction: Rangers’ D is better than what the Devils have. And that will be the difference.

And guess what?

The playoffs are HALF OVER!

Boone: Rangers’ D is better than what the Devils have.
Conversely, Devils O is better than what the Rangers have.
    On verra.

For all you beer lovers out there, here is a cool video from the house of beer in Germany with an IPAD that pours beer.

Interesting thing about Game 7’s especially when that game is decided by 1 goal. Now the Rangers are great and Washington sucks. Had the Caps won, Dale Hunter would be genius, Torterella would be overrated.

I hope the Devils crush the Rangers. I expect the Kings to beat Phoenix, which means we should end up with Rags to Riches final between Rangers and Yotes.

Lol. I took a bet on NJ to win the cup a couple of months back…Im getting kind of scared reading that lots of HIO posters think NJ will beat the rangers…Its usually a kiss of death but at least Boone seems to favour the Rangers, and no one is more consistently wrong than Mr Boone ^_^.

[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.

I really like hard working players that began their careers as grinders, and have stepped up to be valueable assets to their teams. One of these players that i wish we had in our roster is Chimera. He can be a very hard player to play against and he would look awsome in our 3rd line. Thats why i have a suggestion:

We trade our 3rd overall for WSH 11th and 23nd overall plus Jasson Chimera. WSH does this because the can use one of the russian-american centers to play with Ovetchkin and Semin, and MTL does this because we can draft a big centerman with the 11th pick in Gaunce, or maybe Faksa, we can draft defensemen Maata (defensive pair of Tinordi in London) with the 23rd pick and we can claim a hard working player in Chimera, at once.

Just thoughts here for discussion, i just feel a Gaunce-Maata gain at the 1st round may pan out to be a better claim than either Galtsenuyk or Grigorenko.

i think its going to be the Devils in 6 and the Kings in 5. As for the final i see the Kings in 7

I am glad the Rangers won.

Been cheering for the Blue shirts since the playoffs started. I am a huge Lundqvist fan. Vezina for sure.

This is exactly what playoffs are supposed to be. Both teams have participated in the best series thus far in the playoffs (IMHumbleO, 2 of ‘em each). OTT, BOS (how sweet was that one). I won’t get into how McDonagh has turned out very well for NYR, and how shitty Gomez (who I expected so much this season from) has shat the bed for the Canadiens. WTF was that trade all about? 7 players in that trade? WTF! We end up with Gomez and they get a great D prospect. Wait, sorry, a steady NHL Dman for a FRACTION of the cost.

Brad Richards. Clutch. Gaborik, McDonagh, examples of great signings by Sather. What a GM.

Marc has big shoes to fill playing General in Montréal.

BIG goals. Habs need a guy like that Brad fellow. And maybe, just maybe, we already do, two of ‘em. Max and Eric. While watching these playoffs, I am reminded of how well Pacioretty and Cole fed off each other, that tough drive you see players demonstrate when they enjoy the game and strive to be the best. Don’t get me wrong, there is more to the Habs then just them. They are simply really good hockey players.

These playoffs have also had the ‘hero’…Holtby. Be honest here, who thinks that Holtby should be the future netminder with WSH (over Vokoun)? I do (reminds me of a certain ex Hab – Hal…nevermind). Amazing playoffs for him, WSH finds a hot goalie, but can’t bag a goal, let alone a shot on net from Ovie in such a crucial 3rd period. Seriously, 2 years ago, Ovechking was dominant. Big, skilled, pure goal scorer, crushing hits, all around exactly the player any team would want.

    What happened to Ovie?

    • JIMVINNY says:

Yeah, Holtny reminds me of Halak too. Played absolutely marvellous for a couple playoff rounds, but couldn’t get it done. Funny how they both have terrible rebound control as well.

      • Clay says:

Hey Don Cherry – it’s Holtby, not Holtny. And he only let in 2 goals in his first game 7. Great performance, win or lose. Just like Halak 2 years ago.
Lol at the ‘rebound control’ fallacy.

☞ “Wow, that’s a nice lookin’ pair of Crocs!” Said no one ever.☜

      • RiverviewCanadien says:

        Why the attack on Halak?
