Roman Hamrlik, of all people made it interesting.
The ancient defenceman made the third period interesting after Michael Del Zotto gave the Rangers what seemed to be an insurmountable 2-0 lead.
The Capitals managed FOUR shots in the third period.
That’s not going to do it in Game 7.
So the better team moves on to face New Jersey.
Henrik Lundqvist vs. Martin Brodeur.
In a game that will help define his career, Alexander Ovechkin … well, he pretty much sucked: two shots on goal, two that were blocked, two that missed the net.
Brad Richards, by contrast, rose to the occasion. He scored 92 seconds into the game to give the Rangers a lead they never relinquished. Richards had four SoG and went 14-10 on faceoffs, winning all the crucial ones.
Ryan McDonagh played a game-high 29-37 and blocked four shots. Marc Staal blocked five. Del Zotto had eight hits. Dan Girardi smothered Ovechkin.
Early prediction: Rangers’ D is better than what the Devils have. And that will be the difference.
And guess what?
The playoffs are HALF OVER!

Its 1994 all over again.
Go Habs Go!

yes MB, I’ll have 1 chimera, 1 hendricks, 1 laich and 1 shultz please. Anyone of these guys would be great additions for the habs, even brouwer .

I’ll have one bourbon, one scotch and one beer.

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
The Rangers May be in for a surprise against the devils.
Phoenix and La – Best goalie wins
If both teams play in the next round as they did in the previous round, I’ll take the Devils in 6.
Oh boy! Bert Raymond on L”Antichambre! Where’s Stock when you need him?
So if Caps were to trade Holtby now, would they take Eller?
No chance.

nah,the caps would get more. Holtby played 21 consecutive games without getting hurt, pulled, tired or lit up. He is made to play 60 games or more, not 40 or less.
yes, we know – Halak sucks

Bringing Holtby to Montréal is setting the Habs up for Luongo-Schneider 2.0. Bergevin ‘ et al ‘ don’t need the aggravation, and neither do we.

We were doing very well with Price and Halak.

Price-Halak was a prelude to Luongo-Schneider.
These combinations are not sustainable long-term for reasons that include the salary cap and the ambitions of players involved …

Caps four shots on goal in the third period? Pitiful. So much for Dale Hunter’s genius coaching.

Rangers built the perfect team in a big market. ALL characters guys who put the team first. Even if you don’t like the rangers you can’t help but want to see Lunqvist win after hearing him in an interview. Always cheerful and All Class
Sather took chances and somehow, in a couple of seasons, went from the worst GM to the best. We all know the turning point there. The insult to injury (IMO) of that trade was Gaborik. Ouch. I do like the team and love that since game 1 they’ve been saluting their fans. They’ve been doing it right all year long, I hope for a NYR-LA finals.
They salute their fans after ever home game. It’s lame.
All class? You mean like when Lunqvist made these comments after Game 6 against Ottawa? “Someone wants them back in the game, obviously, because there’s no other explanation,” after Jason Spezza got Ottawa within one in the final minute.
They have to do something to make up for Tortorella’s antics!
Reckon?

Ok, Flyers are out and they are less than thrilled with Bryzgalov. The Habs need a French star. What do you think of this trade.Price and Plekanec for Giroux and Bryzgalov. I doubt the the Flyers would let Giroux go but and interesting thought.
Nope. I don’t want Giroux or Bryz. Price suits me just fine.
I wish we had Giroux but no way we can trade Price unless he asks for it
Really??? Bryzgalov??? People freak over Gomez’s contract enough already, and it’s apparent Bryz cannot handle media and fan pressure.

My favorite Habs from childhood were Béliveau and Richard (#16), as an adolescent I was awed by Lemaire and Lafleur – je suis fier en calice du CH et aussi de mes racines québecoises.
But Giroux will have to show a ton more character than he did in game 4 of the NJ series before I’d want to see him suit up in bleu, blanc, rouge …
As for Bryzgalov, it’s hard for me not to believe that he was a part-time sieve in another life, and enjoyed it so much he decided to do it for a living in this one.
So, since you ask, and please don’t take this the wrong way, I think it stinks.
ALWAYS Habs -
D Mex
LOL at stinks, and agree.
Flyers would do the trade in a heartbeat though.
Let another GM off the hook for a bad contract no way!
Bryzgalov’s deal is just carbon copy of the poison of Gomez.

I quite enjoyed the game – just because it didn’t end 10-7 doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Those who equate high scoring to excitement should stick to basketball.

But in games which are “shut down” from mid second period onwards does that appeal to you.
Nobody intimated that there has to be tons of goals for a game to be exciting but a total lack of any offense protecting a lead?
Just remember the hue and cry against JM Habs for playing nothing but defense, for a one man forecheck and for hanging back in the neutral zone when ahead!
These two teams have perfected that!

He made an analogy comparing hockey players to first-response police and FD from 911. He meant well IMO just didn’t deliver it appropriately. Like most things in US media, has been massively over-blown. I thought he was respectfull, just some things you steer clear of.

That sounds good, anything else on him?
What’s the book on Matheson?
in all my years of watching minor hockey in Quebec, he is by far the best skater I have ever seen.
when he was 15 he skated at the Chowder Cup near Boston, he was scouted by Boston College and they wanted to sign him right there because they thought he was 18 already.
he was far and away the 1st ranked 1994 player in Quebec.
he made U18 Canada.
he is a bright kid, a good student, an excellent work ethic, who has trained with Louis leblanc in past off seasons.
his game revolves around his enormous skating advantage, it is truly remarkable and I doubt there are 5 better skaters in this year`s draft.
he has agreed to play College hockey next season, and I expect he will jump right in and contribute big important minutes right from the opening game.

“Bob’s daughter had died (swept overboard at sea while working on a training ship) before this and he was letting Pierre (his confidant) do a lot of the work. Pierre didn’t like McDonagh, for some reason. Saw him play in the world juniors and didn’t like him. The scouts loved McDonagh, though. When he was traded, they couldn’t believe it.” — Edmonton Journal
The more I read about the goat since his firing the more I’m left wondering how in the hell someone as incompetent as this could be placed incharge of such a historic and proud organization.
I agree, its one thing to be a little off but to not like a guy whos now playing top minutes on a 1st place team is too much of an error.

Just read on another site that Bulldogs captain Alex Henry signed to play in Germany next season.I know he was pretty slow but he was a loyal guy who did a great job protecting our kids down on the farm.I just wish he would have been given a couple of shots with the Habs, when we had all those injuries, especially against the Bruins. Anyway, Thanks Alex and Good Luck!
Brady Skjei, Mike Matheson, Stefan Matteau, or Adam Pelech would be a good second round pick. Maybe Tanner Pearson.

Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing anybody on the team get traded from Gio to Pk or tinordo to Gallagher, as long as the return is acceptable, we have a “good” foundation thAt sucked all the way to last place, if our only problem was Gomez and kaberle why did pg deserve to get fired? If we could
Make a move with edm for 1st overall for let’s assay #26 and some prospects and our 1st next season why should we say no? Just cuz we like him? I mean gotta give up quality to get it, or If we could trade #3 overall for a proven scorer why shouldn’t we? We’re at an exciting point in time for the Hans EVERYTHING is on the table, as it should with new management and I’m hoping for good results!!
If we do it your way we may end up looking like the Leafs.
Would love to see Parise and Evander Kane on the wings for Plecs next year…very long shots I know…BUT…
How sweet to have another line with talent and drive and a bit of size (Kane) to work with the heart and talent of Plekanecs.
Just watched the videos for Play of the Year on the Habs web site and I feel good about DD as our #1 centre…he will come back even better than last year…that is his way. Every year of his career he gets better and stronger…next year should be no diferent.
And Eller made great strides this past season and as his confidence grows with good support on his wings and a coach that believes in him, he will be a good anchor on the #3 line…
If our new GM can make a couple of brilliant moves this off season to land a couple of players like Parise and Kane we will be all set…
Oh yeah, a good draft would also help…maybe a move up to get Yakupov, or to sit in 3rd and get Galenchyuk…
Habs have had 1 good line in the past few years.
Ryder-Koivu-Higgins
Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev
Tanguay-Koivu-Kovalev
Cole-Desharnais-Pacioretty
The problem has always been secondary scoring, which for the most part has been non-existent, let alone tertiary scoring. Add to that a small unintimidating defence and it’s no wonder that Habs have been an regular season afterthought and play-off footnote.
I didn’t mind the two Tits and Lang line
