Liveblog: Playoff hopes flicker

Bourque

Carey Price’s teammates blocked more shots than he did.

And now the Canadiens play a back-to-back on the road.

The worst power-play in the league was putrid again.

But Rene Bourque won the retribution fight.

Price is playing like it’s game 7… of the pre-season.

    Chill out!

  2. twilighthours says:

It’s been a month and a half since the kaberle trade, and I’ve forgotten all the smug posts after kaberle’s 2pt debut against nj. My lasting impression of kaberle is….. Nothing at all. Ferraro said it best: he has had absolutely no impact.

    What an awful trade.

  3. mb says:

I think they forgot to wake up this morning.

  4. The Dude says:

Well ,that was special….Now all we need is :2 Powerhouse Big centers, 3 bIG KILLER D men and a back up Goalie who can play 35 games!

  5. Danno says:

This isn’t the team that totally dominated the Rangers for 60 minutes. WTF?

Out-hustled, out-muscled. Which team flew in at 1 a.m. again?

  7. Bill says:

Those linesmen must love blowing their whistles, man. Not offside but they’re so afraid to miss it. Oral fixation? I ‘unno.

  8. ffenliv says:

I know people make mistakes at work and all, but how could THAT call have been blown?

I’m always on here defending refs from the maddened hordes, but that ‘offside’ was pretty special.

I will retroactively blame the first 2 goals on that call. FIXED!!!

  9. Danno says:

Clearly not offside but what else is new? Habs never get a break.

If I hear one more person tell me the Habs have a chance of making the playoffs, I’m going to spit my coffee in their face.

  11. solomio says:

Seriously…besides the fact that 2 powerplays without a goal this shite start is on CP. Without a doubt.I feel we can still win this game but no matter there is no excuse for Carey’s performance thus far in the game. Shameful. We can only hope that he makes up for it and the team gets back into it.

Here’s what I don’t like about RC’s system right now: More forechecking, less scoring (kinda like a modified JM system)!

Unbelievable!! Do we have a Hockey team just to bash opponents or to make goals and win games?

  13. Danno says:

    Good morning Carey

  18. RockinRey says:

This is a game where they desperately need a break!

  19. temekuhabs says:

Can we just start declining penalties and take the yardage???

  20. aj says:

2 PP chances and they can’t still score? WTF!!!

  21. PrimeTime says:

    sooooo bad!

  22. Trisomy 21 says:

Feels like the kind of game where even if the Habs do muster up a comeback, the Caps will kill the momentum by scoring some softies.

Working late tonight… love my phone telling me it’s 2-0 already. Did see Rene’s fight on TSN.ca though… looks like he handled himself quite well actually. Good on him… but it should be settled now… if guys keep running him.. let’s hope the team backs him up. Need something to cheer for.. don’t like seeing 2 goals on 4 shots…

Anyone know a good site that’s streaming the game? Don’t want to wait to watch on the PVR…

  25. RGM says:

I see y’all are in fine form tonight.

    What the F?

4 shots? 2 Goals? Against a team that got here at 1 am?

    L’anne du Tanque ™

I’m leaving to play my own game. this had better improve by the time I’ve come off the ice.

  28. HabsFanMTL says:

i’m still gagging over that Kaberle deal

  29. Kimberly2u says:

They are just coasting along like they have no care in the world..so frustrating

  30. HardHabits says:

How long until Cunneyworth starts playing Budaj more often and how long after that until Gainey gets behind the bench?

  31. Bertuzzi says:

Ah yes, this is the Habs team I’ve gotten used to watching this year… not sure what that Rangers game was all about…

  32. RockinRey says:

    C’mon pot one here!

  33. aj says:

Watching the game right now. Here we go again! The Habs are going to play catch-up when a 2-0 lead comes in the first 20mins. Realistically speaking, if they are going to lose, at least they can take it to OT to gain a point rather than none. I don’t care whether #31 is good or not in a shutout. As long as they make an effort, they will get points. 37 games remain in the regular season. They cannot afford to make stupid or useless plays.

  34. habs001 says:

most times when we play a team that played the night before and we were off we get beaten…but i know posters will be using that excuse sat if we get beaten by the leafs,,,

  35. krob1000 says:

The boys looked look like they were in a state of shocK…..not sure they are really to blame…it’s Bourque’s fault….they don’t know what to do after a Hab wins a fight …

  36. rogieshan says:

The extra day off has obviously affected Price’s timing…

  37. HardHabits says:

The Habs better start drafting goalies soon. The more they coddle this kid the worse he gets.

Roy was never better than when he had Hayward behind him.

  38. Habfan29 says:

I have had it with the throw goalie under the bus bunch on this board. To them the only goalie that could play for the habs and be allowed to have a bad game is Halak, but he is not here nor is he coming back. I for one hope that Price does leave as wins a cup elsewhere so I can see all the whiners come out and say we should have never traded him, we got robbed, unfair etc….. Have any of you ever played nets??????

    • CharlieHodgeFan says:

I don’t think it has anything to do with Halak. Sure, there is trolling about Halak, but it’s not very serious discussion. Price has been the more consistent of the two since the trade.
That being said, he can be hot and cold, and is not yet a top goalie night in and night out. I hope he develops, as he’s still young. I expect he will. But a young goalie gives you bad games, and now it’s up to the offence to step up.

  39. Bozo McBozo says:

    They suck!

Price jersey on, new beer outta the fridge. Now we got this one!

  42. Dulljerk says:

Sorry boys, Price looks a little whacked tonight. Maybe after a couple of more goals against, he’ll get hot.

“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”

  43. tony d says:

    what’s Carey been smokin?

  44. lavie says:

Why playing Price tonight? I don’t understand the logic. :(

  45. ffenliv says:

Not wanting to knock Price, who I adore, but maybe he’s not on his game tonight. Say what you will about one being screened, and the other maybe being a little weak on AK46’s play, but you’d like Price to get at LEAST one of those.

Maybe after Budaj beat the league’s best team, we should have played him again.

Of course, as an armchair (computer chair) coach, it’s easy to say this stuff.

  46. RiverviewCanadien says:

    That was not Andrei’s fault.

Price should be pulled after that one.

  47. The Dude says:

Sign Price 10 for 20! Halak who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. matt jordan says:

gomez has managed a minus 2 in a minute and a half played

  49. LL says:

It’s time to close the computer. Bye

  52. Mondou6 says:

    Cue the sad trombone.

  53. immortalhab says:

Leave Price alone? What would Mtl’s record be without him? What other goalie could handle the fickle Bell Center fans this way? How many other goalies could play the way he does with no team in front of them?

  54. RockinRey says:

Weak , weak play by AK46

  55. jmsheehy19 says:

Not a good night for Price.

  56. Bertuzzi says:

Where did the myth come from that Price is good?

  57. PrimeTime says:

    Pull him!

  58. habs-fan-84 says:

    ugh

time to get my Price jersey out of the closet…

  59. Dulljerk says:

    carey! carey! carey!

“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”

  60. brandonhab19 says:

Bourque wearing 27 is very fitting reminds me of my all time favorite number 27 and hab Shayne Corson. Similiar styles, and a player this team has needed for a long time.

on a side note Price looked terrible on both goals.

  61. HabsFanMTL says:

    Budaj! Budaj!

  62. ffenliv says:

That’s not really Price in net; it’s Andrei Markov. Rumour has it that Price was sent to the room to await news that he has been traded to the Sydney Bears Ice Hockey club, located in Sydney, Australia. Coming back in the deal is rumoured to be every player who ever has, or will play for the team.

  63. The Dude says:

The snipers on the Capitals will be picking on the high stick side of Price …I wonder who gave them the tip “Hammer!”

  64. Propwash says:

I’m still stuck at work ffs. :(

  65. immortalhab says:

So far I’m pleased with Bourque. Let’s hope he isn’t like his predecessor of #27 who only played when he felt like it. Or like the following who started out ok and went to crap: laraque (enforcer turned vegetarian), Go(forever-without-scoring)mez, and Camma-scardey-cat.

  66. duffy says:

And this guy Price thinks he is worth seven mill a year, what a joke.

  67. LL says:

The H guy woulda had that. ;)

  68. Just A Guy says:

Anyone else thinking that the coverage behind the net has been extremely confusing for habs lately?

  69. matt jordan says:

the canadiens are playing like they have an eight point cushion on the eighth seed

  70. Kimberly2u says:

I’m getting a bad feeling about tonight.,.they aren’t moving their feet…hope I’m wrong and we win this

  71. Adidess says:

Price was screened but clearly lacking awareness there. No reason to be down and deep like that.

  72. piter says:

Bit of a delayed reaction from Pricey.

  73. RockinRey says:

Notice habs tend to give up the blueline more easily than other teams. Or at least it seems that way.
