Whatever the hell Don Cherry’s sidekick’s name is again (I know, Ron Maclean) just made note that Babcock and someone else were “two saskatchewan boys”. Who gives a crap? I can’t wait for him to say one day “two Helsinki boys”…
Yes! Racism is prevalent in the NHL. It’s essentially a boys’ club for southern Ontarians. Europeans have to demonstrate noteworthy skill to play in the NHL, while virtually all the marginal roles are reserved for Canadians. Basically, the attitude is, unless you can prove with your play that you deserve to be here, you’d better be Canadian.
Why is it that the Canadiens have let go so many decent players for nothing: Ribeiro, Grabovski, Pouliot, SK74, AK46 just to name a few.
Poor management, lack of patience, bad coaching.
I can only hope th etide will turn with new GM/coach.

I can’t believe we continue to have to listen to Cherry talk about how he coached. Hey Don you won squat, so shut it, zip it, shhhh.
Don’t forget the part where 1983 was the last time anyone in the NHL offered him a coaching job. This guy coached for six seasons before everyone realized he was no good and stopped offering him jobs. That is not an impressive career. In many sports leagues, “coach of the year” is a euphemism for “guy who coached a team that was surprisingly good.” The truth is, coaching is enigmatic. It’s pretty hard for outsiders to tell what, exactly, a coach contributes at all times.
But I love it when he brags about his coaching career. Every time he says, “coach of the year,” I hear, “never won the Stanley Cup,” because if he had, you can bet your life he wouldn’t be talking about the Jack Adams trophy. He even brags about his AHL coaching! The man is pathetic!

Stephen Walkom officiated one of our playoff games against the Pens two years ago – the one in which the Pens were allowed to trip, slash, and hold our players to the point where even Don Cherry protested. We won the game. Walkom is no more impartial than Chris Lee.

Man, if you’re watching CBC, you’re lucky. I have to listen to Doc Emrick (no idea how he got his award) who, I swear, must have a man-crush on the Bruine. He has an annoying voice that just gets breathless with anticipation every time the Bruins get a shot on Holtby. Even Pierre said during the Bruins PP that it was time for them to get going. They’re just as bad as Cherry and McLean.

So lots of talk about Kristo last couple of days. Find it strange some of the speculation. In the NFL or NBA a player is considered to be of great character etc… if he stays for his full 4 years before turning pro. Yet it seems in this hockey market (or at least here at HIO) the player is considered a failure for wanting to complete his full term in University. Find this very odd, I have no issues with Kristo wanting to complete his University Degree and try to win a U.S. College Championship, in fact I applaud him for it. This isn’t to say I am fully confident he will eventually sign with Montreal, but the kid is taking care of his future in many ways and still will have the opportunity to make the NHL.
Do we prefer good ol Canadian boys with little to no education?
