Liveblog: Bruins are out!

Caps celebrate
Tim Thomas blows off Barack Obama.
Washington eliminates the Bruins.
Coincidence?

How’s this for an over-the-top radio call?

OK, the Canadiens missed the playoffs.

But here’s some consolation: Boston is dead after the first round.
In overtime of Game 7, Joel Ward buried a backhand and the Capitals move on to the second round.

P.K. Subban tweets: Wardo! With the snizzle, post game inte, and the fresh cut too!An NHL first: Seven games decided by one goal.

And the last time a rookie goaltender knocked out the defending Stanley Cup champions from Boston?

Ken Dryden.

And Braden Holtby may end up visiting the White House.

Danny Kristo has turned down an offer to turn pro and will play his senior season at the University of North Dakota.

Kristo, the Canadiens’ second round draft choice in 2008, can become an unrestricted free agent of the Canadiens don’t sign him by next summer.

The Canadiens had hoped Kristo would join top junior prospects Jared Tinordi, Brendan Gallagher, Nathan Beaulieu and Michaël Bournival in boosting the Hamilton Bulldogs next season.

Looked like Tim Thomas slipped on something for the last goal of his season!

Btw English Quebec ‘wits’ who are crowing about karma and Tim Thomas might want to get out and clean up Montreal today.

Fell asleep when it was 1-1, really glad for Hunter who seems to have been successful in shifting the balance of power inside the caps lockerroom. Never understood why teams name goal scorers as their captains.

Was unable to watch redemption last night — smiling into my Corn Flakes at this moment.

    Where was Daddy Campbell?
    Where was Luongo?

    Oh Happy Day!

I know Ward scored the winner, but how about my guy Knuble? Taking it to the net, thinking about retiring…

The lone disappointment is that now we can’t have a Flyers-Bruins match-up.

    Turn the page. Go Sens.

Not sure if anyone posted this earlier, but it’s a pretty bad ass .gif that’s circulating of Holtby staring down Peverly after he attempted some typical Bruin-intimidation-antic-BS. Fantastic stuff

This is so great. I don’t wanna say oh yeah there was a conspiracy, but you wouldn’t sound crazy suggesting that after the refereeing tonight – Rat Marchand dive is good but Lucic interference is not? FFS! The league is quite a laugh too many times… I’m just glad the Boston clowns are out. I still can’t believe Chara and that douche Ference got off with nothing last season. Oh well, screw ‘em – 24 cups and counting eh guys.

  19. habsfan0 says:

That obviously was not Jack Edwards.

    Ference can fix that glove…

Chara can go do his summer job butlering for Gomez, Tish & uncle Fester…

Lucic can go back to his nest high in the Rockies and regurgitate all that chowdah he’s saved up all winter for his babies…

Bergeron can go walk the beach at Old Orchard wearing his Nordiques jersey over his Speedo…

Rask can go whack his stick…

and all the rest of the banged up Bruins can go pay a visit to Dr. Recchi for the most excellent reliable care since Rodney Dangerfield’s Dr. Vinnie Boomba.

    Bye-bye Boston.

Listen JUST ME, it’s just excuses. Last year, the Bruins weren’t impressive one bit against us. But they ended being quite dominant in the last two rounds.

I remember people were saying something wasn’t right with them when we went up 2-0 in the series. Where I could agree with you is they may have been told they’ll get away with a bit less in the playoffs this year. Considering how out-of-control they were enabled to be last year, it may have affected them in how they like to play the game.

A second look at The OT Goal & there could be possible goalie interference but not this time – Thanks to the standards NHL Refs have now established so The Bruins lose……

    • JohnBellyful says:

Libertarian Thomas just learned firsthand what the consequences are when you have a league with little or no authority. Anything goes.

    • The Jackal says:

Right, well too bad. Lucic blatantly hits a guy in front of a ref and no call, but Marchand the rat dives and yes it’s a legitimate call. Goalie interference? No sir, if that was so, then so was the tying goal.

  32. habsgod says:

well it sounds like we’ll have a new g.m. shortly if it isn’t macguire then i hope’s it bergervin and let him pick his coach and let him prepare for the draft and free-agency! a question to my fellow habs fans

who do you guys think we be the new g.m.? and why?

    • habstrinifan says:

I like your names. I would be very happy with either one. And whomever is chosen I also want an assistant GM who is French and preferably Quebecois who can grow in the organization. I want HABS to start doing things the SMART way.

  33. Chuck says:

We’re one step closer to a Panthers/Coyotes final. Hey Bettman, you should have been careful what you wished for; that match up would draw fewer viewers than whatever’s on the Food Network.

As much as i appreciate the day, i would not be surprised to hear that the Bruins had a few disabled players doing their best in a playoff situation. Even though it was a close matchup ,the Bruins were not the usual threath.

Hats off to the caps who played playoff hockey making adjustments closing down the game a bit and relying on grinders to make the difference. Who would have thought with two injured goalers and with the season they had that the Caps would make us joyfull tonight !

I’m gonna get lynched here but there’s one from the Starley Cup Chanpiars that I’ll take in my team: Seguin. That’s it. No mancrush, kid is dynamite.

For now, I’m extatic that he’s on vacation though. I don’t feel sorry for any of them, happy for Pouliot’s timely and oh so wonderful input. Happy for Ward and big boy Knuble. Had it been Semin, HI/O would’ve gone fubar.

Boston was handed everything on a silver platter for the past 2 years, and got away with murder (almost literally on a dark march 8th a year ago).

Can’t wait to pound on them next season !!!!!!!

The best part is that the Bruins’ season is now all part of the past. And when it comes to history and post-season success, we all know who owns crowing rights.

  47. athanor says:

Interesting stat in that game: Green had most minutes for Caps, 24:55, followed by Roman Hamrlik with 24:52. And RH some of those minutes were pretty solid, to boot.

  48. Bim says:

Can understand Kristo not signing and wanting to play for a team that can compete for the cup in the next 4 years! Hold on to your hat. There’ll be more jumping ship this summer. Anyone want to coach or manage Canadiens? Anyone?

  49. PrimeTime says:

Talk about parity…….both Cup finalists out this year. And so many here think that just making the playoffs isn’t good enough?? Fckn idiots!!! Figure it out yet?? The dynasty’s are gone and there are no guarantees no matter who is GM, Coach, how many young stars, or big tough players you have. The difference in teams in todays NHL is marginal. No more dominance……..but I’m sure who ever wins the Cup this year will be the new team to model the Habs. IDIOTS!!!!!!

As if losing the seventh game wasn’t bad enough, Jacobs just got an email from Bettman saying he’s pregnant.

  55. doug19 says:

Hope Kristo does not sign so Montreal gives up their heavy tilt to draft from obscure teams who hardly play enough games for players to be NHL ready. They have only one player in the OHL Tinordi who came from college.
Time to wake up and have only a minority of players from college and Europe. I believe this hurt Leblanc as he was injured once he had to play more than a game every two weeks when he went with QMJHL where he did pretty fair.
This drafting policy is part of the same brain trust mantra “we draft the best player available regardless of size or position.”or team, or country? For every Emelin or Paxoretty there are 10——————–
    fill in the blanks!

    • Stev.R says:

It’s not fair to generalize. The CHL is obviously the best place for players to get better, but also the most likely league a player could get hurt. There is a lot of big boys playing against weaker underaged kids. College players may not get as much playing time in, but they often have very good coaches as well as access to top notch work out facilities and trainers. They also grow their mind which can only be a good thing. I would also be willing to bet that players coming from college are more mature and disciplined on average too.

  56. smiler2729 says:
