Liveblog: Leafs win 3-1 – Carlyle is 2-0 against Canadiens

The Anaheim Ducks beat the Canadiens 4-1 in Randy Carlyle’s last game behind their bench this season.
In his first coaching Toronto, the Leafs won 3-1.

The visitors, who still have a shot at the postseason, were dominant after giving up an early goal to Erik Cole.

Mikhail Grabovski, who kills the Canadiens, scored the winner and an insurance goal.

  1. L Elle says:

Considering Leafs are playing with a full roster, and Habs are playing a hybrid NHL/AHL team, they are playing a respectable game.

    GO Habs GO!

  2. Da Hema says:

Would I love to see a good corporation try a hostile takeover of Molsons. Perhaps I would be more optimistic about the future of this team.

  3. HNS says:

It’s like someone in the lockeroom brought up the tank word. WTF happened here??????

  4. danhabsfan says:

    Can’t believe I’m going to write this…
The Habs look worse without Gomez (and I expected them to be much better)

    • Propwash says:

Gomez doesn’t score goals, but at least he can gain the zone.

      Don’t let the wultures getcha.

    • Chorske says:

This is kinda old news. The Habs have typically played better with Gomez in the lineup this season. The Habs Eyes on the Prize did a whole feature on this many weeks ago when he sustained his first injury.

  5. Da Hema says:

I all my years of watching Montreal-Toronto games, I can’t recall being so indifferent about the outcome.

  6. habsfan0 says:

When season comes to an end on April 7, how long will it take for Geoff Molson to announce changes?

    1) a month
    2) a week
    3) a day
4)seconds after final siren of last game

  7. Mondou6 says:

We must lead the league in shots that miss the net. The boards behind the net must take a beating.

  8. gumper says:

Who wants it more? Habs only playing for pride. Leafs still have a shot.

  9. Strummer says:

If you look at our opening day roster we are down 3 of our top 6 forwards- Gomez, Gionta and Cammi.
    Plus our best D-man.

That is one huge hole to fill.

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

    • solomio says:

oh so true.. lets see Gomez = 2 goals and Cammi = 9.
      Get outta here!

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  10. HabsFanMTL says:

Emelin has been traumatized by Malone the other night, i’m sure he’s had nightmares of that “Madman” being held back wanting to tear his head off and now he’s afraid to throw a hit, has anyone seen him throw one yet tonight???

    • solomio says:

      Don’t be silly

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  12. L Elle says:

Bourque has gone downhill since joining the Habs, but I still don’t miss Cammalleri.

Maybe the next GM will get better linemates for our top players.

  13. solomio says:

Boone …don’t tell the boys in the room re their shots count…you’ll only depress them

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  14. Strummer says:

If Geffrion had an alternate surname he wouldn’t be here.

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  15. The Jackal says:

Would be nice if we won some faceoffs and had more players who actually established a presence in the Lol’s zone other than the DD line….. if Pleks had 2 good wingers we’d have 2 solid scoring lines.

  16. gumper says:

Guys that have pretty much no idea what they’re doing out there:
Enqvist, Staubitz, Geoffrion. Enough to make two lines pretty much useless. Not their fault, but it’s hard to watch. Gionta, Darche, Gomez and Palushaj would be a definite upgrade.

  17. Timo says:

What a pathetic boring game. A true clash of the losers.

  18. fun police says:

not bad considering that we have six fourth liners in the lineup. wait until our 7th fourth liner gets back (darche), we will show them.

  19. sreuel says:

There are 10 hab players with no shots 5 of them have 1 not going to win with out a full team support

  20. Ice Storm says:

This just in… PG now realizes he found the wrong R. Bourque when he was doing his pre trade research on Wikipedia.

    • Strummer says:

Just like he found the wrong Randy for a coach

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  21. Strummer says:

This Hamilton team is staying even with the Leafs other than the SOG and F/O deficit

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  22. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

The Habs have a weak tender to shoot @ & can’t pot more. Could have had 4 goals by now.

    • gumper says:

Seems to be the pattern all season. Win a game or two and they think they’re all that. Next couple of games they go back to playing non-contact perimeter hockey.

  23. Ghosts of the Forum says:

What does one expect Pleks to do with Geoffrion and White as wingers?!

    • Strummer says:

      Pleks is a trooper!

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

    • HabsFanMTL says:

exactly, we only have 1 top 6 winger and his name is Gionta and he’s gone for the season….other than that we traded away cammi and AK who were our only top 6 players

      • danhabsfan says:

did you forget guys name Cole and Pax.
Glad AK is gone (def of inconsistent) and Cammi wasn’t trying anymore (although I liked him at first)

      • solomio says:

Cammi had 9 goals. Give it up already !!

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  24. HabsFanMTL says:

i got a feeling that were gonna see Markov soon……

    • solomio says:

Hopefully next fall. Why the hell would you put Markov out on the ice at all for the rest of this season?

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

      • Habfan10912 says:

I think it’d be best to see him play a handful of games. Team shouldn’t go into next year with him as a question mark again.

        • solomio says:

Why? He’ll soon be cleared for contact ( apparently ) and then soon be declared ready to play. There’s no question mark.
Shut him down, let him train and strengthen all summer and then come back for next season. There’s absolutely no need to expose him to some ahole this year. And although one can’t escape the aholes with another summer of conditioning under his belt he would be that much more ready.

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  25. HabsFanMTL says:

Gionta is out for the season is he not

  26. jedimyrmidon says:

Not entirely unexpected that the Habs aren’t buzzing around. Just as we’ve seen throughout the season, they often spend a lot of time in their own zone and then make passes from a standing position meaning no real rushes are created.

Oh well, it’s not like much is on the line. Even if they lose, it may just inspire the Leafs to hang on to 10-11th place.

  27. shootdapuck says:

Subban remind anyone of Jacques Laperierre when shooting from the point!

The safest place is directly in front of the net and the windmill windup!

  28. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

I don’t want to see Pleks, Campoli, Craperlae & Bourque in this team come Oct!

  29. Ice Storm says:

Leafs may not have players from Ontario… But they certainly have referees… Maclean must have put in a call to the Union.

  30. HabinBurlington says:

Close game going into the third, I like our chances 🙂

    • solomio says:

Short handed starting th third ? I don’t.

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  31. slapshot777 says:

What a bulls!t call on LL.

  32. HabinBurlington says:

Almost looked like a makeup call Simpson!

  33. HardHabits says:

The Habs are making strides. They used to be quatre quatrieme trios. Now they are at un deuxieme trio, un troisieme trios, un quatrieme trio et un cinquieme trio.

  34. icemachine says:

    Weak reffing again

Its time to switch to whiskey, we’ve been drinkin’ beer all night

  35. danhabsfan says:

    Phantom calls

  36. HabinBurlington says:

This team really misses the skill of Gionta

  37. habsoakville says:

I HATE Rene Bourque. I hate watching him not give a s–t.

  38. gumper says:

    Our fourth line is brutal.

  39. ffenliv says:

HNIC showing highlights, and they’ve got Stamkos scoring a goal.

In the background, Cherry shouts ‘From Ontario!!!’

  40. shootdapuck says:

Habs have decided to mail it in after 6 minutes of the first.

    Pretty poor!

  41. habs001 says:

Besides the big line every other player looks terrible..blake g has shown no offensive ability at all…plecks is just terrible again…

  42. topher5468 says:

Is Bourque capable of receiving a pass?

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  43. FlyingFrenchie says:

When was the last time the habs won a stanley cup with a European player?

  44. Ice Storm says:

Going to “scout” Gallagher here in Victoria tonight at the Royals / Giants game… Saw him in November and was very impressed… 2g2a I believe and was a smart, efficient, dominant player. Will report back. He loves the dirty areas, if you watch on YouTube, that’s where he scores the majority of his goals…

  45. HabinBurlington says:

Do the Hab FOrwards know that the league does allow you to finish your check?

  46. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

Poor Ellar has to work with Borque

  47. HabinBurlington says:

    Habs need some pushback shifts.

  48. slapshot777 says:

I think the Habs should get a new goaltending coach next season. Pierre Groulx can still do video, but I don’t think he is much of a goaltending coach.

  49. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

The Cookie Monster is weak & the Habs can’t take advantage!

  50. cmaddy says:

    Gustafsson looks SO amateur

  51. Pucknut says:

    Where’s Emelin?

  52. danhabsfan says:

Anyone know the faceoff stats… Habs look like they are lacking there

  53. CHicoHab says:

why is Price slowly backing into the net rather than stand up to the face off????
“take your time and hurry up”

  54. Da Hema says:

Komisarek is wearing an “A?” Hasn’t he been benched the past three weeks?

  55. danhabsfan says:

This game has become all Leafs

  56. Propwash says:

Boone……ya had to mention “the next goal” didn’t ya…

    Don’t let the wultures getcha.

  57. We need the OLE’s to drown out the Laff fans.

  58. danhabsfan says:

Why does it seem like the Habs are sleeping this period compared tho the 1st?

  59. Dulljerk says:

Soft goal from our all-star goaltender.

“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”

  60. twilighthours says:

There’s the campoli we know and love.

  61. cmaddy says:

    Kaberle looks stoned

  62. Propwash says:

    Don’t let the wultures getcha.

  63. HabinBurlington says:

Good old Healy, beause Eller burns Phaneuf, Phaneuf now has the right to cross check and slash his legs, oh I understand.

  64. jedimyrmidon says:

AK has scored for Nashville. First of many in the remaining 20 games?
Edit: Oups, didn’t see post below.

  65. cmaddy says:

Still talking about cherry? Anyone watching the game ? Lol

  66. Mark C says:

Beaulieu with a goal and a helper. Quailer with 2 assists.

  67. HabsFanMTL says:

i think its time to give Pleks a crack at a line with Cole and Patches, its just not fair he’s given 3rd and fourth line wingers

  68. Propwash says:

    ****ing love Cole.

    Don’t let the wultures getcha.

  69. twilighthours says:

    Not loving geoffrion’s wheels…

    • HabinBurlington says:

That had been one of the knocks on him from scouting reports, hopefully he can work on that, another guy Cole has to mentor all summer.

  70. jo_maka says:

The Monster is in a slapstick mindset
Open-mindedness is not a skull fracture

  71. ont fan says:

Thought Cherry was going to have a stroke.

  72. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

Time for Pleks to score a freakin goal

  73. Kaberle thinks he is still with the Laffs.

  74. HardHabits says:

I am watching RDS but if Burke and Cherry are going to duke it out I’d pay to see that.
