Liveblog: Canadiens beat Islanders 5-3

AK46

The Canadiens blew a two-goal lead … again.
But Petteri Nokelainen, of all people, beat Al Montoya with one the Islanders’ goalie should have stopped.
Hal Gill added an empty-netter.

    Isn’t that tripping?

  2. Rad says:

    Cole is fearless.

  3. ffenliv says:

How is that not tripping? He put his body right through Cole’s. It’s not like it was a good, stiff check.

Damn, that was nice passing too.

  16. Bill says:

I just don’t think Cammalleri is a floater. If he looks bad – and he doesn’t look good LOL – there’s a reason. Probably an injury, plus not meshing with his revolving door of line-mates.

Forwards scratched: Gallagher, F Hamilton, Howden, Huberdeau, Scheifele, Schwartz, Smith-Pelley, Stone. Health permitting, they are on team.

  36. JohnBellyful says:

Time to get the torch out and ignite the offence.
(Have to be careful. The same torch, in the wrong hands, was responsible for the fire wagon getting burned up.)

  37. gmur says:

Desharnais… Eller… great moves… all they have to do is finish. You can tell they’re just a bit tight. Give them another year, lots of ice time and lots of chances to make mistakes and learn, and they’ll be very, very good.

So far, so good with Kaberle. He’s not being asked to do everything. As long as his role is limited to what he does best (10 minutes 5 on 5, the rest on the PP), he’ll fit the bill… albeit a pricey bill.

What’s the deal with putting Emelin in the stands? He’s been playing really well. Understood that Campoli needs to get back in the lineup but geez… talk about being rewarded for playing well. Wasn’t there another option?

    • gumper says:

Campoli having a good game IMO.

    • HabCez says:

maybe the reason is to rest him.. cycle the D..
but i would have played him.. since he didnt play up to par the last time they played the Isles.. this would have been a good game to watch him play against them again.. see if he can improve and correct his play against the Isles speedy young forwards..

i sometimes dont think Jm thinks that far ahead..

Although the PP didnt score on their chances.. it’s looking like the PP of old.. (Bergeron/Sourey/Streit/Markov days)
yeah i know its the Isles..

they cant keep this game this close though..

  41. Da Hema says:

Cole had to cover his huevos with that PK shot.

  42. duffy says:

I think its time for Camalleri to watch a game or two from the press box.

  43. gumper says:

PK (the player) definitely off tonight.

  44. Habsolutely says:

Ok, so I’m gonna throw this one out there. It has been reported that Cammy’s first choice when he was UFA, was to play in his hometown of TO. Supposedly, him and his agent went as far as to have a meeting with Burkie. As the story goes, Burkie passed on signing Cammy because he wasn’t “truculent” enough. So, I’ve read that the Leafs have been shopping Kadri. Thusly I present to you:
    Cammy for Kadri.
    Would you do that trade..?

  45. Rad says:

Kaberle needs to drop about 10 lbs…..his skating looks a little labored out there.

  46. TOP DAWG says:

Another bloody nail biter. Oh the offense we have!

“If you’re not the TOP DAWG, the view never changes”

  47. JIMVINNY says:

Someone has to actually take a shot, guys.

  48. HardHabits says:

Getting thugged. Habs have to make this PP count.

  49. Rad says:

I want to see Kaberle score one.

  50. JIMVINNY says:

    Not much there.

  51. Propwash says:

For a sec, I thought PK was out for a long time.

  52. gohabsjoe says:

Oh no subbans down. Oh wait no he o.k.

  53. ffenliv says:

Jesus, what a dirty play. That should be a suspendable play, and I’m not a guy who goes for that sort of thing a lot.

    • CanadienFanTrappedinNiagaraFallsNY says:

I think he tried ti hold himself back from a hard hit and end up falling on him and pulling him down. Still a Penalty, dangerous no doubt.

      • chemic says:

i see an 2.5k fine coming

      • ffenliv says:

Perhaps you’re right. As usual, replays have a hard tie conveying force. I broke my leg badly when I was 20 on an identical play, only that guy did it to be a dick, so I may just have a bad reaction to that stuff.

        • CanadienFanTrappedinNiagaraFallsNY says:

Understandable. Like I said, definitely dangerous, but if Martin wanted to “finish him”, he coulda.

          • ffenliv says:

I think I also wonder how much a player might lay off, making it look better, even though they deliberately hit a guy. I suppose there’s no practical way for us, the refs or anyone else to make that call. I’m just glad Subban didn’t get hurt.

  54. JIMVINNY says:

    Eller showing off tonight.

  55. sane hockey fan says:

I’m convinced Cammi is playing hurt

  56. Mattee. says:

    Eller. What hands!

  57. TomNickle says:

Hey Boone, you were saying something not long ago about Desharnais being much more creative offensively than Eller. Might be time for another bong.

  58. HardHabits says:

Looks like Hamilton is going to have a very expensive first line next season.

  59. CanadienFanTrappedinNiagaraFallsNY says:

HH, I usually lay off but if you dont find the game at least entertaining, you may be clinically depressed.

  60. TOP DAWG says:

    Lay off the slapper PK

“If you’re not the TOP DAWG, the view never changes”

  61. JIMVINNY says:

So LL gets two minutes for legally hitting a guy too close to his goalie. Got it.

  62. Rad says:

I am liking Leblanc. I think he’s going to stick.

  63. habs-fan-84 says:

That is why people see great POTENTIAL in Eller. The points will come, just be patient.

  64. HabFanSince72 says:

Kirk Muller’s Canes (1-5 so far) have managed all of 12 shots on the Leafs after two.

  65. Your Mom says:

Emelin or Diaz…. who’se looked better this season?

And at least the last power play looked dangerous….

  66. LL-not the hockey player says:

Kaberle, a joy to watch. Campoli, an experienced D, a joy to watch.

Fast-paced crazy game. Love it. Don’t miss the trap.

  67. gumper says:

Eller remindin’ me a bit of the Big M or le Gros Bill there. (A boy can dream!)

  68. ffenliv says:

Kaberle is a funny guy. He makes a great move in from the point, and sets up a near-goal. Then, he has 3 or 4 ‘position A’ type shooting chances, and passes every one of them. I understand giving it to PK for a bullet, but maybe shoot once in a while?

Of course, I made fun of Leafs fans for years over this so … fat chance.

  69. JIMVINNY says:

LL better not be getting a penalty for that.

  70. TOP DAWG says:

The point is Eller didn’t. Along with Cammy & Pleks sad

“If you’re not the TOP DAWG, the view never changes”

  71. habsfaninboston says:

Wow! Great moves by Eller. Too bad he didn’t finish it off.

  72. PrimeTime says:

O’ Man that would have sweet….goal of the year!
