Are those guys ever going to play like they are old?
Speaking of which, want to feel really old? Saku Koivu is now the second oldest center in the NHL, behind only Jason Arnott. Pavel Datsyuk is the 14th oldest center, while Scott Gomez is the 20th oldest center.
Time flies. I don’t like it at all when guys who I remember see breaking into the league are now retiring as grizzled veterans.
Note to all you whining Occupiers…….if you supported any other team, you would still find fault b/c every team has weaknesses and makes mistakes. Wake up to the modern era of the NHL. Any team can win on any given night against anyone. There’s no magic formula to it. It makes a better league……although IMO too many teams. The key is to be good when it counts…..the season is a perpetual build to the playoffs. No different than a Cup Champion is a perpetual build over years. Decisions are made based on that premise. There no longer exists a dominant club or a dynasty….won’t happen even if Toe was alive and Bowman was in his prime behind the bench. Learn to live with it.
Seriously…Ken Hitchcock should just get signed to 1-year deals.
The Blues are now 4-0-1 in the 5 games they’ve played since Hitchcock took over, and have only conceded 5 goals. All you poolies with Elliott and Halak ought to be mighty happy.
Sure the defense wasn’t the best, yet they fought back. Didn’t catch the third period. How did Cammy play in the third period? Eller must have no confidence. JM puts him on the wing, meaning no faceoffs for him. (Yes Gomer dominated with his 8 fow and 2 fol) Really though Lars busts his ass, gets a penalty. The result reduced minutes on the ice.
HIO Occupiers always welcome a loss to protest Management and Big Money…….anyone else see a connection?? Does anyone listen to them?? Nope, because they are mostly silent after a win! Time to move on or ease your extremist views.

Andrew, Gomez can hold the puck in the O zone all day, nothing happens when he is there with it so it becomes meaningless. He can not score and it is hard to claim he is creating chances others can but have not finished on. Eller is the man to play, Gomez can gain the zone on a rush but that is about all he can do anymore. He is not even playing like he is worth 3.5 let alone the impossible mark of 7.
Don’t confuse Andrew with things like points, goals, plus-minus, real scoring chances, or the ability to make a play that matters.
He’s got a whole battery of micro-statistics that show that Gomez FREAKIN’ ROCKS!!! He woulda scored 3 or 4 if Eller and DD weren’t taking up his ice time. Word to your mutha baby!!

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Who is “AC” and why should I care that he is joining the flock of sheep (baa! baa!) ripping Gomez–who had a very good game for anyone who, you know, actually watched the play.
We need to get friggin healthy. Why do we always suffer more injuries then other teams? Why does it seem like our injuries take longer to heal? Why when we get the flu we are hospitalized? For cripes sake look who we have playing on defence. Its a miracle we are a 500 club.
Only caught the last minutes of the game, but I see a lot of people talking about how great a game Gomez played, but I look at the line score, and he’s 0 0 0 and a -2.
Give it up people, that’s a great game? The expectations on him have dropped so low, that if he doesn’t score an “own-goal” he should be 1st star.
The Martin Derangement Syndrome sufferers are out in full force.
Can’t really blame him. Four rookies on D, back to back games, and a keeper who lets in 4 on the first 19 shots. I’d say Martin is actually doing a good job with what he has. We’re hanging in there until Marky returns. Then we’ll see.
You can however blame the Goat for signing a goalie who was statistically the 60th best in the league for each of his last two full seasons. A goalie who was deemed less desirable than Brian Elliott.
That’s 60th best in a 30 team league, where each team only has two goalies at a time.
>That’s 60th best in a 30 team league, where each team only has >two goalies at a time.
Way to put it out there in black and white. LOL
Budaj did have a good first game. But man those lazy mistakes behind the net tonight… did he score a big bag of weed down in jersey before the game or what?

How about PK went out of his way to tip one into his own net, and Budaj went for a stroll and forgot to close the door. Add in a little “Emelin stunk the joint out” and you’ve got the basic recap of a game that shoulda bin a W. Most nights when four goals are allowed we ain’t gonna win, regardless of how we juggle the forward lines. This is not an NHL calibre defence, and yikes, here come the Rags and Broons.
Did anyone REALLY expect the Habs to beat the defending Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders, particularly the way the Islanders are playing? Come on!
Ultimately, given enough time, a team’s style of play begins to resemble the personality of its head coach..in this case..comatose.
Not sure why Eller was benched in the 3rd period and Gomez was out there doing pirouettes in the offensive zone..Sure, the guy can skate fast and all, but what does he actually create after gaining the blueline? Nothing..
Eller works hard every shift..He may make a mistake or two throughout the game, but he has been the better player,. by far..
JM’s coaching strategy of not letting the kids play in crucial situations will stunt their growth..Gomez has been given chance after chance only to fail..What does JM have to lose by giving Eller the chance of tying this one up? \
BAH!! Losing to the NYI with weak goal tending and coaching ineptness really slices my cake..
Gomez is not going to score 20 goals anymore… maybe not even 10 goals. But I don’t see his play being negative for the team. He’s not producing points, but he’s not a liability either. That’s not exactly a description becoming of a player who makes big $, but that’s the deal right now.

It’s not bias with DD. I have no problem with him as a player. I have a problem with him getting ice time he doesn’t deserve, and people praising him for the exact same thing they accuse Gomez of doing.
3 times tonight DD had an open net, and passed it right to an Isles defender. THREE TIMES.

AB, the probably isn’t that he is playing, it’s that he is playing instead of Eller, who may not be the puck carrier that Gomez is, but works harder, passes and shoots better, and creates more chances.
But he’s not playing instead of Eller. Desharnais is.

Anytime Gomez steps on the ice, he’s playing “instead” of someone. Let’s face it.. he’s not going to cut the mustard for the Habs, and the sooner they rid themselves of his pathetic self the better
And if you had any reason for those statements maybe your comment would hold water, but Gomez had a very good game.

The only team he created scoring chances for was the Islanders. He had nothing to do with Gionta’s PP goal other than being in on the after goal celebration hug. I don’t know what game you were watching but he sucks ass. Horrible. His play is degenerating. He doesn’t provide offense. All his plays lead to nothing.
It’s amazing to me that a man who fancies himself as a hockey connaisseur can continue to defend Gomez’s play… the guy has completely and totally lost it, and it’s not coming back anytime soon. He has to go

why the keep playing gomez is beyond me.. what on earth do they expect from him.. honestly.. his assist last night was a complete fluke and everyone knows its.
also.. its not very smart to bench young players like eller on a back to back night.. they have fresh legs because they are younger

Gomez may or may not have played 20+ mins. These details are inconsequential. What matters is that he has sucked in nearly every minute he has played.
The problem is that 15 minutes of Gomez time FEELS like 30 minutes of normal time. Torture has a funny way of messing with our perceptions.
Sure the defense wasn’t the best, yet they fought back. Didn’t catch the third period. How did Cammy play in the third period? Eller must have no confidence.

JHC AB. Gomez’ only saving grace is he won face-offs. He should have gotten of the ice immediately after the face-off.
Only saving grace? He was creating scoring chances left and right while constantly keeping the team on offense when he was on the ice.

He has to go
Try watching a game.

As a season ticket holder, I watch a lot of them. Live
.500 in the middle of NOV – not good, this team will not make the playoffs.
@teamadam76
You heard it here first, folks. Adam76 made a prediction, the opposite of which always comes true. We’re guaranteed playoffs now.

Outstanding! Can we get RetroMikey to say some bad things about prospects, while we’re at it?
There were more fanning on shots and passes in that final minute by the Habs than Islander fans in the rink.

Newfoundland’s biggest Habs fan. Hands down.
We need the points why noy play Price.he has a rest tomorrow nite……………we need better training every game we lose a player to injury do not see this on other teams which proves……………………………..WE ARE A VERY FRAGIL TEAM
why the keep playing gomez is beyond me.. what on earth do they expect from him.. honestly.. his assist last night was a complete fluke and everyone knows its.
also.. its not very smart to bench young players like eller on a back to back night.. they have fresh legs because they are younger
