Liveblog: Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

Budaj

Canadiens never quit.
Give them that.
With a shortened bench, playing their second game in two nights, they made a third-period game of it.

But the D was dreadful.

Yeah that’s the ticket. Start trapping now.

  2. zozotheclown says:

I didn’t know you could poke check a goal in… over

  3. Feraco says:

Gomez on the ice for another one.

  4. JoeC says:

Boone sais :”Gorges and P.K. will play ridiculous minutes, we’ll hardly see the fourth line and there will be no legs in the third period.”

ANd that guys is the “JM System”

  5. Rad says:

Martin and Gomez to Hamilton … in that order.

  6. Habfan4lfe says:

Big reason JM and Gauthier suck. Gomez gets ice time. Then there is a huge list of other reasons but we all know those.

For those JM supporters. Here’s a question for you. Do you think JM will get hired by another team when he’s fired in Montreal? Yes or No.

Here’s the answer. No team will ever hire this guy. Everyone knows he’s a useless coach. He will go into upper management (god forbid) and push a pencil just like he does coaching our team.

I see that Davis Payne is looking for a job…..

Someone said Roy and Muller the other day. IMO, if it were available I’d do it. Both guys who know the game. JM knows jack all. We can blame the players etc but it’s the coach who cannot motivate or help these players.

This thing feels like a Sunday scrimmage, though not quite as exciting.

  8. Habitant in Surrey says:

…D not getting same support from the O as last night
…need fresh legs to play Martin’s ‘system’
…D, itself, still looking respectable considering

    JM mumbling under his breath…

“damn you russian bum, i let you play today because i had to not want to, and damn you for letting the other team score, thats it , take a seat your there all night, i dont remeber you playing good at all yesterday’

  10. ponyboy says:

Please oh please somebody take Gomez off the Habs, a bag of pucks will do

  11. Bill says:

What’s the over/under on how much ice-time Martin gives Emelin for the rest of the night?

  12. LL says:

They always underestimate the Islanders. And they get us every time.

Hope tonight is different. That great win last night deserves another.

  13. Feraco says:

Gomez poisons anyone he plays with!!!

  14. Wayne says:

“Can’t be more than 3000 people here. Bought a 7 dollar ticket 20 rows off the ice before warmups. Sad, sad state of affairs here.”

    Times are a changin’

I painted a fence for two days back in ’74 to earn enough to buy a 7.50 ticket to BTO at the forum.

(triple bill Triumvirat – Bob Segar – BTO, rolling Drum cigs, drinking a mickey of Carioca rum … hey! I was tapped out!)

  15. JIMVINNY says:

Why the hell is the back ref making that call? The ref in the habs zone was 5 feet away.

  16. Timo says:

Have these morons had too much to drink last night? Terrible.

  17. Marc10 says:

Oh goodie! Team Hyde is playing tonight…

  19. zozotheclown says:

They had 3 tired forwards skate slowly up the ice and still score…

  20. JIMVINNY says:

F*cking Gomez doing the half-assed skate by in the replay. Wasn’t even trying to get back. F*cking bench him.

  21. JasonM says:

Diaz picked the wrong guy :(

Hahaha losing 2-0 against a bottom team that can’t score. Budaj, gtfo!

    • Habfan4lfe says:

Get a clue fella. If you are gonna fault the guy for that goal seriously. Grab another beer and go play a game on your PC. We’re gonna lose but it’s not the fault of the goalie. It’s called horrible defence, the guy who got the puck should have been covered. He wasn’t.

  25. HardHabits says:

Eller alone is better than Eller with Gomez.

  26. ogilthorpe says:

Hey,has anyone else noticed how they have price sitting all by himself in the corner of the rink?

  27. twilighthours says:

At times like this you really appreciate price and how good he is.

  35. Habfan4lfe says:

I bet if you put the last game tape over top of this one Montreal is playing the exact same stupid strategy. God I don’t know how much more I can watch of this garbage system. I think though he should start the forwards from behind our net. I don’t think they are far back enough.

  36. Ian Cobb says:

This is one of those games, keep it even until late in the 3rd, then it is a toss up.
Gomez looks like the fastest player on the ice for both teams tonight.
    Hope he get one!

    • Habfan4lfe says:

Remember he’s been on so many lines, that’s why he can’t score. Ya that’s it. 7.5 million player and so much experience and he’s humbled because of who he’s playing with. God.

  37. JD_ says:

Either the goalie pads are miked or there’s fentanyl in the ventilation system. Prediction: First team to miss the inside of the post is gonna score.

  38. Habfan4lfe says:

RDS guys give Myers a pass for the head shot on Zubrus

That’s because it wasn’t a headshot. It’s called lame acting. Had the guy been upright like he should have been in that situation it would have been a shoulder check.

  39. The Dude says:

Used to be a time when no matter where Les Canadiens played it would fill the Arena….

  40. Wayne says:

“The Chara criminal case is closed. Does that mean they can stop showing that replay?”

    One hopes. Move on,..
    Patches has. Just lookid’em :)

  41. Bugs says:

    Cammy sure likes dem top-corners!

Back from the Brink’s boasts L. B. Potter, esq.

  42. Timo says:

So… doesn’t look like I missed whole lot by not watching the first period. Did Gomez score?

  43. NLhabsfan says:

The case became closed when Chara wasn’t suspended:)

  44. ponyboy says:

Eller looks lost without AK on his wing. When he is with Gomez it looks like he isn’t sure if he should play center or wing because Gomez is everywhere

  45. Marc10 says:

    Pretty even…

The place feels like a tomb. Can they move these guys to Quebec City already. It couldn’t be any worse than what we’re seeing in Long Island.

I suspect Budaj will come good in the end. I doubt we’ll ever get playoff Halak form, but he could turn into a good #2.

  46. ponyboy says:

My first post here after sometime being a lurker. Enjoy the banter and looking forward to being a part of it!

  47. badbalance says:

Most boring period of the season…

  48. HardHabits says:

I don’t like the way the forwards are being used. I liked the Blunden-Nokia-Darche line as a 4th line. JM drives me nuts.

  49. Marc10 says:

Maybe the Moenator will score number 7 tonight…

Eller and Gomer confused according to Dany Dube… Two centers…

  50. JIMVINNY says:

Neidereiter’s a big kid. In a couple years, he’ll be the best Swiss player in the league.

  51. MrsPrice says:

I love Price. He is so good. Show me Price.

    The Price is Right

  52. Gerry H says:

I think that was the first stop Budaj has made without giving up a rebound.

  53. ffenliv says:

I understand that putting the puck exactly where you want to is tough, even for the pros. Why, though, did Gionta just shoot it square at the goalie. That shot was 6-10 inches from ANYWHERE that might have done anything.

    • dhenry1234 says:

      You answered your own question.

      • ffenliv says:

Sorry, my online joke detector is failing again. Did you mean that in a ‘because that is where he has shot all year’ or a snarky ‘he did that because you cannot always put it where you want’?

Edit: If it’s the latter, I really don’t think I did answer my own question. From that range, with no one in the way, there’s no reason to just put one right on the logo like that, no matter how difficult locating a shot can be.

  54. JasonM says:

Gionta needs to start shooting better.

  55. JIMVINNY says:

How sad is the state of the Q when all three francos playing for the habs went undrafted?

  56. Gerry H says:

    I’m really liking Emelin tonight.

  57. Danno says:

    Budaj is looking solid

  61. JD_ says:

First shot on Dippy hits the post. His clearin’ attempts a bit rough. Gettin’ to him early means not passin’ to a corner when you’re in the slot, and certainly not twice. Shoot the puck!

Why not just put Nokelainen, Gomez and Darche on the PP.

  66. JasonM says:

Would like to see the Habs 2nd wave PP get first dibs for once.

  67. ffenliv says:

How scared must the Isle coaching staff be when someone who IS NOT Dipietro gets injured, and ol’ Glass Jaw has to go in between the pipes. Who goes in when Rick gets an injury/

  68. JIMVINNY says:

Groin. Old man didn’t stretch properly before the game. And the islanders goalie injuries continue.
