Liveblog: Gorges pops one in OT

Moen against Phoenix

Josh Gorges doesn’t score often.
But when he does …
His first of the season produced a hard-earned road W for the Canadiens.

PRE-GAME AUDIO: Jacques Martin | Jaro Spacek | Travis Moen

  1. DEANDALLEY says:

Just seeing Martin turns my Dog’s stomach! AND my dog has a strong stomach !

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  2. The Dude says:

That one point may keep Martin here for another contract…..

  3. HabFanSince72 says:

“What is that weird Phoenix cheer?”

    The sound of crickets?

  4. Corson27 says:

Mission accomplished, the count played for a point.

  5. morivera says:

great! we need 5 more minutes of his exciting hockey game. Sure to be rerun on CBC’s “Best games ever” one day.

  6. Cdnman1 says:

At least we get a point!
    Number 25 in 2012!

  7. Habbu says:

I call Chipchura in the SO

  8. Chuck says:

Hey, a point is a point.

  9. JD_ says:

Diaz has been awful since the openin’ game. He can’t even shoot the dang puck let alone play the body.

Followin’ from that, one would assume Emmy would see more ice time. Given he isn’t, however, bein’ afforded the opportunity, it is probably fair to assume this is really just about him and not Diaz.

Goes back to preseason. Em’s 25 years old, first year in the league, and shows up fat to trainin’ camp. Said it at the time, it says somethin’ about his mindset and he’s gonna ride the wood. It’s not just about a st00pid gaffe. And, yes, I’m obviously speculatin’.

I also expect his situation will markedly – yeah? – improve when Marky’s back on the ice.

  10. Sotxhabsfan says:

Watching this on the Arizona feed is painful. It’s putting me to sleep.

  11. Bill says:

There’s no point in firing JM during the season. That’s just a panic move that isn’t going to make the Habs any less injured, and it’s looking like the playoffs are unlikely even if their new coach were named Toe Bowman.

Let’s ride the season out. Maybe dump some salary at the deadline (let’s trade Gomez for Higgins and McDonagh!). Let JM get promoted upstairs and find a new coach when there is a chance to conduct a patient, careful search.

  12. Corson27 says:

Damn the Habs had some tough teams through the mid 80’s, I miss that. Those teams did not backed down.

  13. PrimeTime says:

Blah de blah de blad de da. Loser!

  14. TommyB says:

    Loser point! mission accomplished.

  15. Chuck says:

Looks like a lot of the whining sheep are out tonight, eh?

  16. axxerd says:

Eller is becoming a favorite of mine

  17. DEANDALLEY says:

It’s great to have a smurf in front of the net!

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  18. westerfield says:

i like DD. but just once, i’d like to see eller center cole and pacioretty.

  19. Chuck says:

What is that weird Phoenix cheer?
    by mboone 11:21 PM

The Bulldogs fans do that after a goal is scored in Hamilton, too.

  20. DEANDALLEY says:

    Another quick whistle! PUCK!

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  21. Corson27 says:

Emelin still nailed to the bench, the count with his kitty bar the door insomnia curing shite.

    Stop the bleeding, fire Martin

  22. Cdnman1 says:

No one in front of the net!

    Number 25 in 2012!

  23. Habbu says:

Yup add Emelin to the long list of players JM has given up on.

    • JoeC says:

Hmm, SK, Grabs, AK basically hmmm Emelin, what do these guys all have in common? 🙂 Actually name me a russian thats not named Markov thats played a regular shift for the habs the last few years?

  24. JoeC says:

  25. Cdnman1 says:

Pal-j finally gets a shot on goal.

    Number 25 in 2012!

  26. morivera says:

This gane needs propofol to wake us up.

  27. LL says:

What exactly did Emelin do wrong? Since when does punishing a grown man work?

  28. Bill says:

Long shot of Emelin on the bench, learning not to play too physically.

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  29. axxerd says:

I get the feeling Subban isn’t being allowed to play his ‘game’. I think we need to worry about him as much or more than we do about why is being done to Emelin

  30. EricMelvin says:

I’ve got it, it’s the mo-ustache, Diaz needs to shave the mo-ustache, it’s messing with his equilibrium.

  31. JoeC says:

Emelin looked like he was looking up to check the time hoping he doesnt miss his flight back to Russia

  32. Habbu says:

I loved Diaz & now I hate his guts.

  33. PrimeTime says:

You do not know what your talking about!

  34. Chuck says:

    Moen first in the shootout?

  35. jrshabs1 says:

3 weeks ago I said that Diaz looked like a minor midget out on the ice. 3 weeks ago I got hammered by the Hab faithful, who were unwilling to follow my lead. Now do you believe me? This is a man’s game played by big strong men. Diaz does not fit into that categorie. Diaz, Cammy, Gio, DD, Gomez, Pleks, Webber, too small as a collective group. These guys make up 25% of the roster. Habs will never win anything with the core of the team being this small. This is not a new revelation!! Does management not see this? How could they not?

    Go Habs Go!!

  36. Bill says:

And now the famous tie-protection strategy …

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  37. Habitoban says:

Pathetic predicatbility!! Emelin, our most physical defenseman, sits for a mistake after only a couple of games of experience. JM implements prevent defence after 2 periods. Habs get bottled in their own end and get muscled off the puck for a goal. Just pathetic. How long can this stupidity last? It is so irritating.

  38. JoeC says:

1-2-2 JMs playing for the tie yay!

  39. axxerd says:

Damn iPhone…. Let’s try this again

I hope that reporter from TSN 990 (Jessica?) asks Martin wtf Emelin is still benches but Diaz is back out there right after another mistake… The last time she asked a tough question that Martin didn’t like he seemed to have listened

  40. PrimeTime says:

Hab nerds here are the equivalent to PJ Stock is to sports journalism

  41. Habzfan says:

Diaz is not an NHL caliber d-man. We need Markov and Campoli.

  42. JoeC says:

Is it only me or does it look like PK has been told hes not allowed to cross the blue line in the offensive zone or something? Compared to last year, this year he almost looks like hes playing like Gill.

  43. Habbu says:

    Wish Kirk was here….

  44. axxerd says:

I hope that reporter from TSN990

  45. JIMVINNY says:

The habs aren’t getting any calls, and the yotes are starting to play like they know it. Lots of interference going on.

  46. DEANDALLEY says:

Geoff Molson has crappy beer, a crappy GM & crappy Coach how he succeeds in business is beyond me!

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  47. JoeC says:

The only way Diaz gets his ass nailed to teh bench is the day his name becomes Diazikski.

  48. Cdnman1 says:

WILL anyone get in fron of the net on those point shots. They are alway at the side!

    Number 25 in 2012!

  49. duffy says:

Time for another firing ,lets hope its the coach this time.

  50. The Dude says:

It’s kinda like watching a one ton truck bumping a Honda Civic…the truck is fine and the Honda is toast! Let’s get more small Athletes and see what happens?

  51. HardHabits says:

Why Eller was out there with Nokia is your guess as good as mine.

  52. DEANDALLEY says:

How much would a Hitman cost?

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  53. WindsorHab-10 says:

Get that piece of crap Diaz off the ice. He cost us 2 goals the last 2 games.
    Damn you Martin.

    “Hate Bruins like a sickness”

  54. JoeC says:

3P 12:00 Danger every time Diaz is out there

  55. Cdnman1 says:

    Diaz is too soft….

    Number 25 in 2012!

  56. get. rid. of. diaz.

No wait, I take that back.

Get. Rid. of. Martin. ASAP LIKE RIGHT NOW.

  57. SUMO says:

zebraas are not making any calls for the habs

  58. Cdnman1 says:

    Another trip goes undetected!
    Number 25 in 2012!

  59. JIMVINNY says:

no call on the blatant hit from behind?

  60. JoeC says:

Diaz is sooo amazing, But JM thinks Emelin Sucks, and look Diaz gets another free pass.

    Wow, JM needs to go

  61. morivera says:

Boone “Gionta is playing like his hair is on fire”. Maybe his hair can make contact with JM’s notebook.

  62. Bill says:

    The famous lead-protection again.

Diaz couldn’t handle Yandle there … Emelin still on the bench?

    Full Breezer 4 Life

    • Aladino says:

That RDS guy puts me to sleep. Its too bad TSN990 radio is two seconds behind, as I would much rather listen to their broadcast of the game !

    • HabCez says:

      good to see gorges score!
thats one way to get back at coyotes for that heavy body on him!

serious notes.. our D’s and small F’s cant handle those types of hits for 82 games and have no one stand up to these hits..

glad there isnt a game tomorrow.. cause the habs gonna feel it tomorrow..

  63. TommyB says:

I guess the one man forecheck ain’t working tonight. Better go with the 0-1-4, hang on for the tie.

  64. Habbu says:

Hope we don’t wake up one morning to learn Emelin has caught a flight home.

  65. twilighthours says:

Diaz brings little to the table

  66. DEANDALLEY says:

Send Diaz down to the Dogs. He’s aweful!

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  67. Chuck says:

This team’s defensive coverage is horrible.

  68. Old Bald Bird says:

The system is working as well as ever.

  69. DEANDALLEY says:

    Bad play Max

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”

  70. Cdnman1 says:

There not playing 1-1-3, there playing 1-2-2.
    Not much different.
    Number 25 in 2012!

  71. JoeC says:

Whats so sad is if they win tonight it buys JM more time,

I want them to lose just cause i think this team would be so much more better off without JM.

    • Habsolutely says:

Problem with that is JM and PG are friends, PG firing JM is admitting to a mistake so he won’t do it. It’s the same thing with Gomez, they won’t do anything with him because it is admission of fault.

  72. Habbu says:

Georges Laraque interviewed in Edmonton this week
Asked about not playing very much for head coach Jacques Martin in Montreal:

“He doesn’t like toughness. Guys would get beat up and he’d have his hands in his pockets, showing no emotion to the other coach. When a coach shows emotion behind the bench, guys love that. You want to play for him, win for him.”

    • Bill says:

If Georges had ever done anything at all about guys on his team getting beaten up, I’d have more respect for his opinion about JM’s response to it.

He didn’t police or enforce anything. Why play him? What was he expecting, power-play time?

      Full Breezer 4 Life

    • otter649 says:

And when Martin asked Laraque to go out & do something – I have to ask the other guy if he wants to fight first (BLG’s Code) Mr. Martin……..

  73. Chuck says:

Just let it be known that the Leafs are my second-least favourite team.

  74. The Dude says:

Time to implement Le System a la Martin…
