A note to fans of the liveblog: There have been some problems with the HIO site being a bit slow during games this season due to high traffic. The Gazette and our HIO technical staff are aware of the problem and we’re working on a solution to fix it.
There were 38 seconds left in overtime when Andrei Markov scored on a Canadiens power-play to secure a hard-fought 4-3 win.
The Canadiuens had blown a 3-1 third-period lead.
It was Markov’s fourth goal of the young season.
The Devils came into the Bell Centre as the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference.
Martin Brodeur had given up only three goals through his first three starts.
BIG win.
What a difference a year makes:
It took the Canadiens 10 starts to secure their third win last season.

This team is going great right now, I love it!
And geez Markov is such a stud!
I agree

Frontenac1,
clearly I missed you (I’ve been away for about a year and 1/2), but boy do I like you.

Is it true Bobby Orr is being referred to as the Canadian Andrei Markov?

Happy the Habs kept it together even though the Devils caught up they never gave up and look what happened also Markiov has proven we really needed him the last couple of seasons.

A new St. Andre(i) for Montreal et Les Glorieux!
Seems to me Eller is playing almost tentative, like he is trying to make sure he makes the right decision instead of the wrong one. Almost the old play not to lose your spot kind of thing. MT has done the tough love already by scratching him for 2 games, I think perhaps some kid gloves may be necessary in order to try and get Eller’s confidence going.
Others have made the point about how much better he has looked at center, and perhaps it is as simple as that. I am just not sure where you put him at center. The 4th line doesn’t suit him and they are doing fine. While I think Eller has potential to be better than DD, he has not shown that innate sense which DD when playing well has. DD is struggling also, but he makes small little plays which really show his high hockey IQ.
I don’t know, I suppose with MaxPac out, Eller stays in, but I worry Blunden takes his place. I hope MT works this properly, end of day though it is up to Eller to play better.
I agree completely.
People kept saying that Eller’s tentative play was because he was worried about being benched by JM. Now he’s doing the same thing for another coach.
Maybe he’s just naturally tentative.
As you mention, tentativeness on the wing is bad enough, but at centre it’s a killer. I’ve always thought that DD has more natural vision of the ice, and you put that point perfectly.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Really enjoying watching this team play early in the season. Some of the fearless predictions on here on how the Habs will finish the same as last year may turn out to be correct if they mean 73 pts and not 15th place.

Markov… MARKOV?!
“arrest this girl, her hitler hairdo, is making me feel ill”
Well that was pleasant.
I’m actually happy to see that we won in this manner.
Lost a lead, but fought back for the win.
Been a while since we’ve seen that, and great to see.
You can see that Eller doesn’t have the coach’s confidence, and rightly so, he hasn’t merited it; a few good moments, a lot of floating.
Chucky looks like the real deal, and I love love love the way that Bourque is playing. He’s frustrated, but it’ll go in, and once it does, it will keep going in.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Great job by the rookies and an excellent game from the 4th line and Prust on the third. Therrien is doing a great job getting the team fired up and has the boys finishing their checks.
Bourque is playing well, Markov is ridiculous but Price did let in a softie that pissed me off a bit.
Love the new gritty attitude of the team.
Go Habs Go.
Great win, good to end the loosingstreak against the devils.
Mister Markov is hot!
And what a game by the Gals. Thumbs up!

Say no to visors and sign Emelin for 10 years
The team is now in perfect position to sign PK Subban on the cheap. For those who say “PK Who?”, it’s better to have him than not. Coming in a tight winning group he has no choice but to fall in line, for those who assume he’s a dressing room poison, which nothing so far proves he is one.
Good redemption by the Habs. They just defeated the hottest team in the league!
The kid line has really given the team a boost. MT is playing his lines very well; playing the line at the right times. That’s how you build confidence in kids while allowing them to gain experience. Things are looking great!
PK mulling over options.
He’d better be “Mulling his Options fast”. 11/2 years without playing hockey will kill your skills.

keep the two Gally’s with the team. They look great with Prust.
I am with you there, my friend.
Prust is doing a great job protecting the “Boys” from over aggressive opponents.

Cole made up for his stinker at the end. DD needs to wake up tho
Antichambre crew “analyzing” Gallagher’s goal.
On the 4th time they show the replay:
See Galchenyuk takes the puck. Then he beats Greene. And Gallagher goes here. And Galchenyuk is going to pass it right there.
You get paid for this?

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Time to put some ketchup on the crow and say it.
A well coached game.
Yep, grab me a fork as well. He’s starting to win me over.
Who the hell is this Subban dude that you guys always talk about??
your a fool
Time for changes
Markov one goal in 21 games in KHL & 4 goals in 4 NHL games – I guess The KHL is a harder league to score in…….lol
Nice win! Liking the energy on the ice. I watched the Devils feed and the announcers were commenting on how different that Habs are playing this year.
Cole is starting slow, like he did last year. But he will pick it up along with Desharnais. Hard to imagine Galchenyuk not sticking. His skill set it amazing. He and Gallagher seem to have some magic going.
Hopefully Subban will be back in the fold this week.

cole may have a slow start on the stats page but he’s been getting plenty of chances, posts etc and does many little things that don’t show up on the stats page like excellent work in front of the opposition net, good forechecking, finishing his hits
Lecavalier fought Luke Schenn tonight, Tampa romps Philly. Seems Lecavalier is playing well this year, has the amnesty buyout threat awoken him?
45 million dollars to go on Vinny’s contract going into 2013/2014 season – Makes Gomez buyout look like chump change……
still not sold on Eller
Yep, jury’s still out.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
It´s funny how Therrien´s incomprehensible dislike for Eller affects some fans.
He doesn’t play well. That’s probably the basis for his dislike.
And that of many fans.
He plays hard but then floats and disappears better than Kostitsyn.
Mind you, Kosty used to score goals.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Love this: TSN’s projection for Markov this season – 3 goals, 13 assists.
And the Habs 18th in their !@#$% bull!@#$ power ratings which they can take and stick where the sun don’t shine………..
Great effort! Markov makes it look easy. 3 points in 4 games for chucky and 2 in 3 for Gally. So refreshing to see young talent on this team make a difference.
Great work again Mr. Boone….thanks!

last year if we give up that lead, no way we win the game. Full marks to COle for drawing the penalty and of course the General again shows us why he is the general.
wtf was markov doing at the right post? Friggin ninja
exactly – he was so out of place….. or was he?
How does he do that with that wonky knee?
he he
Satisfying win, again!
A little bit of vodka and wonky feels normal.

Nice to see ..especially after the refs gave them gift with the two penalty calls the one time.
Is it just me, or has Bourque been playing great hockey? Now that’s the player we thought we were getting
He has been good every game. Putting in the effort, getting chances. Eventually the goals will come, but in the meantime he is pushing the play in the right direction, winning puck battles all over the place. Fits in nicely with the Plekanec line winning the the possession and position game.
“Et le but!”
If only he could hit the net with his shots, he is looking great though
Time for changes
PK would have helped at 4 – 4 in OT..he is dangerous but makes thinks happen
But also may have lost puck on a headlong rush.
Mr. Biter

DD…Lousy game, but huge faceoff win makes up for it
Na Na Na Les Canadiens Les Canadiens
Markov is just an amazing talent. Just incredible.

Markov – past halfway to Subban’s total of goals for last season…
Wish they hadn’t blown the lead, but a nice win anyway. One beautifully set up play there.

Ok…. Are we good now or something…?
PK Offer Update: 2 years @ 1.6mill per…
Oh happy day
Just think this summer there were posters who were thinking that we should trade Markov and that he was washed up. Good think they weren’t the GM at the time.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
Markov has so little hockey sense lol, what a smart hockey player damn
PK, get your buns down here while you still matter.
That was close! good thing Markov was there to read the PP! Good win. Other than that, Its time Therrien would have to decide what to do with the Desharnais line. 4 games w/o goal production is really a telling sign!
Habs win again, as Subban’s value drops on the Pat Hickey Market Report.

Perfect situation. Better to get him on the cheap than having to overpay if the team is struggling.
Wins and losses don’t change a thing in all honesty.
He makes the team better, and the GM should always want to make the team better. Markov is the best D on this team, but we could still use our #2 guy.
Just look at the TOI stats… we are running 5 defencemen hard right now. We could use one more who could soak up minutes from guys like Markov, Gorges, Emelin over this compressed season.

Exactly. Having him is ALWAYS better than not having him.
I’ve always wondered: how can the fans be selecting the three stars by voting throughout the game, if the guy who scores in overtime wins first star every time?
Mike Boone: “With Gainey at my side, I’d walk into any dark alley in the world.”
nah markov just wins it everytime
I would change my name to bluewhitered but I don’t want to start a controversy
I just want to be fairly compensated for filling in for markov… but pk your not filling in for markov anymore
I would change my name to bluewhitered but I don’t want to start a controversy
PK WHO
Maybe I missed it, but I do not remember the last regular season game where the entire team skates out to mug the game winner.
And it was at the other end of ice and both goalies ended up there. Great team spirit.
There is no question that a healthy Markov is the best player on this team. He makes a huge difference.

Le General! Holy! What a start to the season!
PK WHO
Wow Markov, we really missed him these past few seasons. Team looking good, they seem to be gelling well so far. Hope this keeps up.
Chico Resch needs to shut up, says Cole interfered with Salvador. He did that all game, would say Oh that wasn’t a penalty and then would have to backtrack when the tape showed different. Dumbass
Rag top Resch is one of the worst. Still trying to understand who Placanitch is
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
I didn’t think he was that bad. Try listening to Jack Edwards (NESN – Bruins play by play guy).
I thought Resch was more than complimentary to The Habs franchise and the City of Montreal tonight.
You’re nit-picking
